      Very true my brother. I second you bcz you called a spade a spade. The value of money keeps on depreciating as time lapses away. Therefore, the value of ksh. 6M at present time wouldn't hold the same value in 10 years to come. This is due to inflation and other factors.

    Rather than do this, shikana with 4 of your besties and start an investment group. Each of you save 10k a month. Start by investing in low risk investments like MMFs. In a few years buy stocks and land. You can build low cost housing and also venture into farming. Done right you'll be worth more than 6 million in 20 years.

    Also tell them about inflation. Not just interest. But the point is to ensure rate of inflation is not higher than the rate of interest earnings. Also there was need to consider compounding as the principal increases through monthly/daily savings. It's more nuanced than that simple presentation

    the math is correct, its compound interest, 10% of 109,500 is 10,950, if you add it back to the principle you will get 120,450 at the end of year 1

    Saving doesn't come to mind if you're depending on the money in future.
    Take 300 - 500K and open a mini supermarket. Make sure you're covered atleast 3months of expenses. Depending on the place you set up, you can see profits of 3k - 10k daily.

    This calculation is not correct. You cannot calculate interest of 10% on the total amount yet the deposits are being done on a daily basis. Interest should be calculated on a pro-rata basis. Also, investment income normally subjected to withholding tax of 15% which has also not been factored in. The amount after the 20 years will be much much lower. It would have been better to calculate the interest with a compound calculator. All the same, saving 300 a day is a great thing👌

    So there’s the withholding tax and there’s the 10% not necessarily on the amount you have at the bank at the end of the year but the average of what has been collected that year. Theoretically you are correct, practically, this is a little bit misleading but all in all saving is important!

    • @Centonomy101
      @Centonomy101  5 років тому

      Hi wambui. Actually the maths to it is correct the thing is compounding the amount

    • @wambuikaranja6626
      @wambuikaranja6626 5 років тому

      Centonomy I absolutely understand the compounded amount. That’s not the issue. The math THEORETICALLY is very correct. Practically it is not. If you save 109,000/- for a whole year in the bank there is a tax on this amount as you receive your interest on it so the 10% will be reduced a bit so the 120k technically you should get that but you will not get exactly that. Also it depends on how the interest is paid on the investment institution/plan you choose ie some pay quarterly, most don’t pay you the interest of the money you have in your account on the 365th day they pay you the average of what has been in your account for all 365 days combined. Ie I save 300 per day, by June my money will be half and I’ll only get the 109k at December 31st (due to issues such as say I don’t put in money and on December 31st I go put in a lump sum expecting my interest) most institutions give the average of the amount that has been in the account constantly, that amount will vary. I hope you understand what I’m saying?

    • @Centonomy101
      @Centonomy101  5 років тому

      yes we understand. the most important thing we want to demonstrate is that it's possible.

    • @wambuikaranja6626
      @wambuikaranja6626 5 років тому

      Centonomy which is what I said at the end of my comment that all in all saving is VERY important. It’s just that some people may take the values at complete face value and feel misled when the figures do not look exactly as demonstrated hence me feeling the need to just point out it may not look exactly like that but it is absolutely possible and it is a great thing to save and start as soon as possible.

      Hey, treasury bills are short term investments that mostly mature within one year or less. They are mostly advertised by the government which makes them secure. You can never lose your money. So in layman's language, ni kama unachukua a certain amount of money, say 100, 000, unaenda bank, mostly Cantral Bank of Kenya watakuadvise vizuri. Then buy the T.bills. Kuna ile interest rate government, through the central bank, watakuwa wakipeana. Tuseme interest rate ya 10% annually, or semi-annually whichever. Na juu ni short-term investment, kama inamature like after after one year, utapata ile 100k yako, na ile interest itakuwa imeaccrue for that year using the 10% rate. I hope this gives you a slight idea.

    If 109500Kshs gives you 120450Kshs in one year then it means you're getting 110% return per year and not 10% as you say. So what kind of business will give you a constant 110% per year? Even Stima Sacco and Police Sacco combined can't give you 110% per year. If you invest in these saccos you get 12% + 15% which is barely half the equivalent of 110%.
