Hands! Aren’t hands the most wonderful thing. Sewing ,quilting, pottery, loving a baby or a son or daughter, gardening, petting a cat or two or three ...., making a book, cooking whatever wonderful thing comes from your kitchen, driving to the long arm quilter or the candle maker............ even pulling weeds..... love watching the work of your hands. You are such an inspiration

I'm in California but there have been no cases in my county. Our markets are suffering from all kinds of outages of products in spite of that. I wish I could say the hysteria is hysterical but it isn't! In spite of all that craziness, we are experiencing the MOST BEAUTIFUL blue sky with gorgeous white puffy clouds today and a lovely 70 degrees!! I've been going about my usual routine - which as a retired widow who is an extreme introvert and hermit means that I'm not worried about all the hype! My kids all live in the same town as me and so no worries for me. And I have my dogs - albeit aged ones! The sunshine quilt is glorious! I like the idea of the green fabric border on the label. I have tons of crochet and knitted wash cloths that are in my gifting stash - but they're definitely something I like to make when I need a palate cleanser or don't know what to do next or if I'm anxious. The quilt you made that had the purple pillows - I LOVE that one!! The bowlful of Norma at the end was my favorite!! I for one am looking forward to when we can once again greet our fellow humans be they friend, foe, strangers or loved ones with a handshake, hug or kiss (when appropriate)!! Be well, all!!

February 7 2024 Maryland USA: Wonderful attitude back then to have had. Especially the lime green sofa! I so wish I had known of your site then to begin my creative processing that is going on with your incredible encouragement. I did get yesterday a purchase for the EPP for a 12” pillow and idea to embroider on the muslin bag something that my granddaughter have loved watching since she was a toddler. I little pond near us that if you are lucky to stop at the traffic light near it she was able to watch. For many years it would be “Are the two ladies there?” That is what we called the swans. Always just two. Well for a few years we have not seen them and she is twenty years old. Last week she pulled over when she saw two swans. She took a photo and sent it to me with the text “Nana our two ladies are back”. Eighteen years ago we began looking for the two ladies. So I am going to embroider two swans on it.

Well, that was much needed chat on the sofa, the tea was perfect and the company was very much needed today. Having an attitude of gratitude is so important, especially in today's world, right now. Weather permitting I'll be getting out into the garden this week, even planning on growing extra for neighbors. Take care friends, until next time....☕❤️

Long ago and faraway our family had a Series of Unfortunate Events. In order to get my head on straight and recover I went on a retreat. This was at a convent. While there I became determined to find the blessings in my life and I counted them out on a rosary. By the time I finished the retreat I was able to list three blessings for every bead! This quote might help some people. " the absence of light causes Darkness.... darkness is not an indication that there is no light. Most often, it simply means we are not in the right place to receive the light... For change to take place, we need to actively let the light in." This quote is from Dieter F. Uchtderf. I hope this helps bring in a little more light into our lives. Thank you for bringing to mind the simple joys Kate.

Hello Kate. I’ve only been watching your vids for a cpl weeks but wanted to tell you how fascinated I am with everything you do. You’re very talented in so many things! I used to garden in my younger years, canning & freezing a lot of veggies. Cannings a lot of work! I have crocheted for 40+ years, starting when I was in the military back in the 70s. I taught myself to hand piece and hand quilt back in the 90s and last year starting sewing quilted items on my vintage sewing machine I bought in 1977. So far I’ve only made table runners, placemats and wall hangings. I don’t have a table big enough to put a bed quilt together on and can no longer get down & up from the floor so don’t know if I’ll ever make a big quilt. I just finished a smaller version of your flying geese quilt and it’s hanging above my sofa. It was fun but a lot of work what with all the ironing, cutting, sewing, ironing, cutting, sewing, etc. Whooee! Oh and I also have 2 cats, brother & sister. 😊 Every day I’ll be tuning in to see what you’ve been up to. Stay safe & virus free!

(I wasn't always this way, folks! People can change.) Love the idea of using the little book as a gratitude journal. I just read that you can also add something about yourself you are grateful for and it helps build self-esteem. Nice to see Martha and Agnes as well!

If we were looking for a silver lining to this Corona Black Cloud, one might be that it may help some people learn to enjoy a little mindfulness..... cooking a meal at home (instead of going thru a drive thru and eating in the car), enjoying a hands on project (that should have been finished long ago, but we were too busy), playing a board game with the kids (which we're normally too busy to do), sitting in the spring sunshine, etc. Maybe some stressed/rushed people will realize that slowing down is not such a bad thing, and that making another dollar is not the most important thing. Keep making your lovely videos, which remind us about those sorts of slow enjoyable things in life.

Nothing brings joy quite like a baby...Agnes is beautiful! And the sunshine quilt..gorgeous! We had a lovely spring day today and I did get outside to sit in the sunshine for awhile...took some deep breaths in the midst of the craziness....yes, it will pass, and I guess it will be better to wonder if we did too much rather than be sorry we didn't do enough. Things are fairly normal here (yes, the grocery store stuff !!) but we are a state of huge spaces and few people, so hopefully we have some distances built in. I'm just hanging close to home, which isn't hard...sooooo much on my to do list now that my new hip is well on the mend. LOVED the garden video....thanks for such a soothing visit today!

I love your suggestion of a gratitude book!! Gosh, I could fill one up in no time at all! Today I'm thankful for my husband who is downstairs doing the hoovering and cleaning up the kitchen. He keeps jugs of freshly-made iced tea in the fridge for me which I love! My Southern American side coming through! (Mississippi born, southern raised, living happily ever after in England!) I'm thankful that our church has decided to be wise and close for the time being. I'm VERY thankful for our dear daughter & son-in-law who live a few miles away and are happy to do our grocery shopping. He's doing that for us today for the first time. I'm thankful for the beautiful grandson, Elijah, that they've given us. From a tiny preemie at 24 weeks and just 1 1/2 lbs, he's now a tall, slender, healthy two-year-old who makes us laugh. Is that 4 or is it 5? And I'm thankful for our neighbours in the house adjoining ours who dropped a note through our door yesterday with their mobile numbers and an offer to go and pick up anything that we might need. Who could ask for better? Now that the schools have closed, I'm sure we'll be hearing lots from next door. Their children are 4 and perhaps 7. They're noisy, but then I suppose we may be too, sometimes! And a sixth thing for which I'm thankful: the Lime Green Virtual Sofa and its hostess, Kate from the Last Homely House. Thank you, Kate. xx

Hello, Kate from Edmonton in Western Canada. We are still buried under snow, so getting to see you out in your garden was great even if not much has woken up yet. I love it that you are knitting dish clothes. Knitted or crocheted are great. My Mum will make them and my brother and his wife love them. On top of that, they are great to wash up with. Now this leads me on to the green sofa. (by the way, my cushion is purple and my footstool is purple and greens). Every time I am here sitting on the couch or sofa if you will, I am knitting using circular knitting needles. I prefer them as my place on my own couch is at the end with the arm on my left so straight needles get in the way and I don't enjoy using them much any more. That sunshine quilt look fantastic, can't wait to see it when it's done.

I’ve had a wonderful virus free weekend ( no tv etc), I’ve been organizing and purging my fabric stash and I have been going through all the mountains of quilting magazines I have. It was a nice mental break from everything in the outside world. I really enjoyed your garden video and it’s made me think that I have really neglected my garden and it has inspired me to clean things up once the weather warms up here in the Canadian maritimes. Today, especially, I am thankful for you. Your video was such an oasis in our time of crisis here in Washington State. We live an hour north of Seattle, the center of the worst outbreak in the US - with massive, massive numbers of people who commute there from our community for work. I am medically fragile and we are taking all precautions we can and trying to be sensible about our preparations but this afternoon it just suddenly overwhelmed me and I felt sort of lost (though we have really good family support), and unable to cope. After watching - and especially listening to - your voice is so soothing - this video I feel able to cope again. I took up my lace tablecloth that I am crocheting and joined those others on the sofa (my crochet hook is short so I won't jab anyone) and I feel ready again to cope with all that we are facing. The deer are shedding their winter coats, spring is coming, birds are returning - we have hope once again. Bless you my dear.!!

Your calming voice was just what I needed to hear. Yesterday was upsetting for me here in New York USA as our state has some of the highest numbers of cases of the virus and things are shutting down. I guess it’s a good thing since it will slow the spread. But since we’ve never gone thru this type of thing it’s upsetting. So anyway your calmness helped calm me. I needed that! I’m thankful I have my stitching! Thank you for your video!

I had a little giggle during that garden tour, when you had those burdock stuck all over your boot cuffs, and right on the top of your hat. I loved that knotted willow so much, I'm going to do it around my chicken yard to cover the wire fencing.

I crochet. Never learned how to knit. I'm about at that point where I should do some washcloths. I received one from a Grandmother, who's grandson was in my Sunday school class, and it was the BEST washcloth I had!

Hi Kate - you’ve shared so many wonderful projects and I’ve picked up so many tips too so thought I’d share one of mine with you. I found this helps with the gradation issue when knitting variegated sock yarn, I now knit the heel and heel shaping with the same yarn but the other end of the ball and then continue the main sock with the original end of the yarn. The beauty of the variegation through the sock remains in tact 👍🏻😊

Oh my goodness just watched you video where you went to visit your son for his birthday. At the end you showed a coffee percolator?. My mum had one of those (I think it was her mum's). She always brought out to use at Christmas when we were kids. The little burner underneath was fueled by methalated spirits. It used to mezmorize me. Thank you for bringing back such child hood memories. My mum used to make her own Christmas cakes too and I used to help with blanching the almonds. Love your videos and you have inspired me to have a go at the around the world quilt. I am in the midst of making my first quilt, which is just squares, but have loved doing it . Thank you again

But I have now been in our home for 2 weeks and am getting stir crazy so it was very nice to see your face and here your calming voice. We live in Central Texas in a city with 5 Military Bases where they brought some of the cruise passengers and they are getting the best care possible..I am not a knitter but I really liked the socks .. If you read this tell your Martha that she is very pretty and your Grand Daughter is absolutely adorable.. Well will see you next week ( Or before because I watc every olde video I can find ) so you have a Blessed week .

So happy to be on the virtual couch. Since corona virus has been reported in my city, I could potentially spread it to actual couches. My son is self-isolating with me, and we tend always to be well stocked so all's well. Going out for walks around the neighborhood has replaced walking through shops and going to quilt guild get togethers for the time being.

Dear Kate, A friend of mine told me about your channel last week and since then I have watched and listened to so many videos that have brought semblance and calm in these crazy times. I have subscribed and have shared your videos with several friends who are also smitten! You and your animals, home, gardens and crafts are absolutely wonderful. I was amazed to receive this video today because just yesterday I started knitting organic cotton dish cloths!!! I needed to do something with my hands that required no concentration!!!! I kid you not. The pattern I use is almost exactly the same as yours, but by using a yarn over for increases, a nice little border appears. Here is the pattern:
    cast on 4
knit 2, yarn over, knit to end.
do this for as long as you'd like
    to decrease
    knit 1
    knit 2 together,
    yarn over
    knit 2 together again
    knit to end
    until finished!
Enjoy! And thank you for being you!!!
-Susan from New Hampshire in the States

I love making dishcloths. I can knit but I crochet mine. I love the gold and green yarn. I have a cotton yarn I use from Knit Picks called Dishie which is a little thinner than regular cotton and very soft. I love working with it. When I knit I prefer the short needles when ever possible. I feel like I go faster with them. I'm excited to start my garden but as usual it has started raining so it may be a while before I can get it tilled. This year I am reminded how important gardens can be. Our grocery stores are bare right now and I'm glad I have some things canned and frozen.
