  • All aboard for a rare mileage trip over Southern's Asheville Division behind the mighty Norfolk & Western 611. Go trackside with the 611, two SD40-2's and an 18 car consist as the Carolina Special travels from Asheville to Spartanburg and return by way of Saluda. The most complete coverage of the 1993 Carolina Special and the most exciting footage of the Saluda Grade ever captured on tape. For the first time ever you can ride on 611 up Saluda Mountain. You'll take your seat on the running board next to our mini-cam as the 611 battles the 4.8% grade of Saluda Mountain from Melrose to Saluda. It's the ride of a lifetime that will knock your socks off. 60 action packed minutes of THE railfan event of 1993!
This program was produced by Trackside Video, a small video company which operated from 1987 - 2008 out of Forest Park, Georgia making train related videos. Most of the Trackside Video programs are lost media and are extremely hard to find, with only 14 full programs (including this one) having resurfaced online so far.
A massive thank you goes out to ‪@BenBensonStudios‬ who procured this tape on eBay and sent it my way to be preserved and deinterlaced to 60fps! As of June 5 2023, this VHS has been returned to Ben for safe keeping in his personal collection. Happy National Train Day, everyone!
This isn't the first time the both of us have found a lost Trackside Video release, either! Click here to see a full playlist of all the Trackside Video releases we've transferred: • Trackside Video

Thank you so much! It feels very rewarding knowing I helped in the preservation of what was previously considered lost train media!

@@BenBensonStudios I have given it a lot of consideration, but I haven't been able to find the fellow that made it for permission to do so. I do have the original grand opening from 1983 that is mine of number 11 painted in green and gold on it's run from Hartwell to Bowersville and return, but it's not so good in quality, but it has some decent scenes.

What would have made this much better is leaving the 2 SD40s off the train and let the old steam engine do her job by herself! Those old steam engines from what I read make around 5000 hp so it didn't need the SD40 to help!
