  • Hello all you beautiful people!
    I'm back with a slightly longer video this time. I show you how I make a leather tote bag by hand.
    These are raw unlined tote bags with an inside pocket big enough to keep a cell phone and keys. The bag also has a magnetic closure.
    This has been a very popular item for me and always get good reviews from my buyers.
    Hope you enjoy the video! Please like and subscribe!

    • @Luke_cpt

      Hi Akbar! Thanks so much for subscribing!🙏🏾 I started off buying needles, an awl, waxed thread, cutting mat, steel ruler and a pair of good scissors. Those tools costed me around R1000 (ZAR) back in 2016. I would suggest using paper to do your mockups just to avoid wasting leather. As my journey continued I bought more tools as I went along.

I’ve already got a brand I had made for wood turning but I’m really struggling to find an affordable press. Can I ask what is the one you’re using and if any other watchers have any recommended presses or ideas for what I could use ( or tips to make the crappy one I’ve got work better!). Thanks so much! I actually got gifted this Arbour Press from my father inlaw. The only tricky part about this one is that the branding block has to be straight before you apply any pressure. I've been caught a few times when it moves slightly and the branding ends up skew, then the whole item is basically wasted. I'd still recommend it, but brand with caution. Lol.
      I'm not sure if anyone else could recommend another option for but this one was bought at Adendorff Tools in Cape Town and as far as I know was fairly inexpensive.

    It makes me appreciate the purses that I do have, and it also explains why we are paying so much for purses such as Coach, Michael Kohrs, and some of the other high-end handbags that are hand sewn, and cost so much money. The quality is a lot better.

    Good afternoon Tell me, please, if you need to make a bottom of 12 centimeters in width, then on each side make a cut of 6 centimeters or can it be less? Perhaps when all the seams are sewn and turn the bag inside out, then outwardly it will not look nice from below? Tell me how best.

    • @Luke_cpt
      @Luke_cpt  Рік тому

      Hi! Yes, the cuts need to be half of what you want the width to be. If its less it will not line up properly and you'll be left with a gap. If you are doing it for the first time, try with a spare piece of material before you use actual leather. Also always start with a slightly bigger piece so that you can trim it down to the perfect size.
      I hope this helps!
