Well it has a neat hidden feature that no one talks about The camera has a dual gain iso when using flog Flog2 I think the second gain at iso 1600 or like the xt4 at iso 2000 And flog2 at iso 3200 Also it can output raw video through HDMI using an external recorder like the Atmos ninja v Meaning it's also capable of outputting 12bit 4.2.2 prores raw or Braw all intra video which can be used on a profesional commercial set and worked with well in post The thing is beast when rigged and well worth the consideration for pro video work given the second gain iso in flog2 Though the missing second card slot and the identical rolling shutter to xt4 leaves something to be desired and also if a few more function buttons on the front wouldn't hurt. The camera is an absolute beast
thanks for the effort and the sharing. as someone very happy with my much older X-T1 & X-T2 bodies, i'm always looking at the future possibilities. thumbs up.
Cheers Jay. Slowly getting more comfortable. Just need to find my style. One video at a time 🙌 Enjoy your trip away with the X-S20. Looking forward to hearing how you got on with it!
Thanks for a very balanced review of the X-S20. I’ve had mine for about a month, I own an X-T3 as well, and I’m more photo centric, than video centric. As a photo club member, I have to shoot a wide range of subjects, so I use the C1 - 4 custom modes to quickly switch between different shooting scenarios. The main benefit to me with the X-S20, is the battery life, improved autofocus, larger front grip, and the IBIS, really loving the camera, and pleased that I’ve bought it.
Glad you seem to be as impressed as I am. All my C1-4 are taken up with video modes so far. I mostly lazy when it comes to my daily photography so aperture priority is my go-to mode and I’ve mapped the button next to the viewfinder to toggle face/eye tracking on and off.
Great thoughts derek. They mirror mine pretty much. I have an X-T3 but I'm frustrated with the sometimes hit and miss autofocus. I know it's contributed to perhaps by the lenses but I've had similar issues with Fuji zoom and primes. I simply don't need the bells and whistles of an X-T5 (nor do I need 40mp) or its weight, so I have an X-S20 on order and I'll trade the X-T3. Pleased you're liking yours!.
Just ordered this as my first ever proper camera. Really like the stripped back looki compared to other Fuji cameras as well as its flexibility for both videos and photos. Excited to get it an play around with it. Great video David!
I own the x-S10 and it’s been a good camera. The X-S20 has some nice upgrades, for sure. I don’t think I’d upgrade for them since my X-S10 covers most of what I want it to do, but I think this is a good move by Fujifilm! 🤙🏼
The X-S10 is still outstanding. And it looks like it will be supported for years. So hang onto it. The X-S20 brings the newer processor, improved AF, and native USB-C streaming.
Very nice review and I have similar impressions. I came from the X-Trans III generation and it's a huge step up for me. I tried some AF tracking of hummingbirds and it was a challenge using my 55-200, but I think it was because of the shooting environment of relatively low light and low contrast. It did lock on and even found hummingbird eyes!
Help! Any advice for this camera handheld and when and how to use the IBIS, boost and DIS settings? I enjoyed shooting video and stills on vacation, but didn’t experiment enough. I could get stable enough static shots, but not pans and walking (even if attempting ninja stepping) was micro jittery. I ended up using my iPhone for walking and it’s gonna be a pain to match the color and feel of those.
was xt3 user. some issue i had from xt3 was poor battery usage thru out the day, and no ibis. also af was pretty bad in some situations xs20 is definitely a good upgrade if you need better battery life, ibis for longer focal and better af + firmware + processor. i was contemplating to upgrade from xt3 to xt4, but the price of xs20 is about the same as xt4 here so upgrading to xs20 make sense since it has better af.
Very useful first impressions, thanks. I'm considering this for photography (to replace my x-t20) for two reasons. 1. The improved autofocus for better subject tracking and 2. the bigger grip for better ergonomics with some of the larger lenses. Have you tried it with the 55-200mm or 70-300mm for example?
Hello there, great vídeo! Im currently looking for a new camera, un in between the xs20 and the xt4 (not the xt5 because It lacks fully articulated screen) i Need both video and photo but mainly photo quality overall, both have the same sensor so should I pick the xs20? i ve look every UA-cam video and ask in shops still can’t decide. Thank you and keep up, you should have more followers because your content quality is undeniable
How is the build quality? How’s yours holding up? I’ve seen some negative feedback about it. Really like XS20 but don’t want it to look like shit after some usage…
I understood you suggest x-t3 or x-t10 instead than x-s20 for photography? I am not a pro, I mainly will use tha camera for family and to take picture of my child. Autofocus is something which concerns to me, especially to take picture of my child. I think I will use the camera essentially for the picture. élease may you advice? Thanks!!!
I’ve never had too much of an issue with the AF of the last generation of Fuji cameras for the way I shoot. The XS20 is definitely improved, especially for tracking but if budgets are tight, I’d suggest an older body. If budget is not a factor then either this or the XT5 are a good prospect.
The X-S20 has a much improved autofocus, especially for portraits of family. I don’t use the AUTO mode very much on this camera, instead I have set the C1 custom mode for portraits as follows: Aperture priority, AF-C, face / eye detection, auto ISO 160 - 800 range, and whichever film simulation of your choosing. This way I don’t have to set the analogue dials, as I do with my X-T3, switch to C1, and select the aperture, and you’re taking photos. I have C2 set for birds, C3 set for mammals, C4 set for Program mode. On a recent visit to a zoo I switched from C2, to C3 according to subject, so very easy.
I can’t see a good reason to buy the XT4 at the current used prices. I loved mine but the XS20 beats it in most areas and the XT3 is 90% as good for a lot less money. For video the XS20 is the clear choice.
@@davidthephotographer In your opinion, the XS20 not weather sealed isn't something essential especially under UK's mostly drizzling poor weather (UNLESS of course, you only shoot indoors)? Actually, it's not even rain or snow that worries me as an XS body could take the beating as long as that hotshoe mount is covered ( ua-cam.com/video/SsvtyBT33nA/v-deo.htmlsi=mpGGWDwX0Hct_C8e OR ua-cam.com/video/k4CXskOtRpA/v-deo.htmlsi=uxd2pdec_2pRlEKs AND ua-cam.com/video/9W19rrVi6nM/v-deo.htmlsi=YJOtl_tTtU5tRSrr ). It's dust or sand that poses risks sending them to repair centers particularly when these elements sneak in the outer and command dials. :(
Agreed. I’m mostly using these videos to get used to talking on camera. I got bored of one single angle so moved around but didn’t adapt my lighting at the same time. A lesson learned 👍🏼
Haha true! Whilst the autofocus was impressive the photographer behind the camera was not! I am planning to so some telephoto tests on a range of subjects soon.
The X70 is a camera I’d love to try. It looks like a great little travel camera. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive on the used market! An X80 would be cool to see.
I'm confused: what customization are you looking for? The front and back command dials control shutter speed and exposure compensation and can be switched back in forth. In manual mode, exposure compensation is changed to aperture control. Since the left dial can be mapped to any feature you'd want, what would you map the 2 dials on the right side to instead?
I want to be the first to tell you this since no one else is going to help but you really need to adjust your lighting set up D: specifically the red light that makes you look like some villain or your in a horror movie ☠️ put it directly behind you and off to an angle and it'll be waaaaaaay better than what we are seeing here. Not trying to be a jerk, just genuinely looking out for you 🤙
Yeah I wanted to try a different style so rather than using a 23mm lens and just sitting in front my grey wall, I switched to the 13mm and moved the camera around from section to section. But I didn’t spend much time moving lights etc as I was in a bit of a rush. I’m still finding my style. This is only my 4th video talking to camera so lots of improvement yet to be made. I appreciate the feedback 🙌
The worst thing about this camera is that even though its a content creator /videography camera, the autofocus system follows the very old contrast detection whatever mode, which is quite bad. For photos is good enough but for videos its terrible. Try to do focus pull with this and you will die. Its fast but it hunts and its not smooth at all. You have to use manual focus to change the focus point most of the time. If its dark... pointless. And its a camera made for filming....🤦 Why man.....😂?
Well it has a neat hidden feature that no one talks about
The camera has a dual gain iso when using flog
Flog2 I think the second gain at iso 1600 or like the xt4 at iso 2000

Depends on what you value most. The XS20 shoots 6.2k and has better auto focus. The XT4 is better built, weather sealed and has dual card slots.

RGB fill lights are more suitable to be placed at the back, not to use them to fill you face shadows. Pink face looks wierd. Thanks for the review~!
