    Excellent video Shane! I have this lens and it's awesome. Even after owning a half dozen other lenses for both my Sony and Panasonic cameras, I still turn to this focal length when I need one lens only that is flexible and reliable for pretty much anything. I also love the Panasonic 24-105 F4 on my S5 cameras!

    Just discovered your channel when looking into Yolobox. I bought the 24-105 when I bought my A7C and it's just perfect for so many situations that it's my goto lens and always attached and just keep a secondary prime F1.8 in the bag just in case. Great videos mate, a new subscriber.

    Currently I’ve got the 16-35/4, the 70-200/4 and a couple vintage 50-ish mm’s. So I’m missing that mid range. I’m thinking the 24-105 is going to be my next purchase. I’m also contemplating the sigma 24-70/2.8 but the 24-105 is lighter and it’s got that oss. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️😂😂 thanks for the video Shane!!!

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому +1

      The Sigma is a great lens optically, but it's heavy and can suffer from dust issues very quickly. I had it for a day and returned it based on the size. I didn't feel like the 2.8 vs 4.0 was much better for outdoor shooting. Indoors, the 2.8 will be a better choice but the weight is brutal on the Sigma. :)

    Settled on this as my first lens for my backordered FX3. Want something I could use for road trip and travel content and this looks like a winner to start. It’s so tough with all the choices because of the pros and cons to everything. I’m thinking of eventually pairing a Tamron 17-28 2.8 for better wide angle and indoor shots but this should make due for a bit!

    I'm looking for a new lens for my football videography. One thing I suffer with on my Tamron 70-180 is that when I zoom out from 180 to 70 the lens loses focus of everything, does this lens do that? I think there's a term for it called parfocal 🧐

      I can't remember mate, sorry. I ended up selling it a while back due to the size and weight for long handheld work. The AF works great though so if you use autofocus it should adjust pretty quickly when zooming.

    Thanks for the review, Shane. Really surprised how well controlled the focus breathing is. And as a Panasonic owner, I am envious of the AF-C capabilities. Also, thanks for showing everyone that f/4 is BEAUTIFUL and that they don't need to shoot at f/1.4 all the time. Where will you be travelling to next year???

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  2 роки тому

      Realistically the only thing Sony has over the Panasonic is the AFC. For that sort of work it's great. There's something a lot more fun about Panasonic cameras in general though especially if you are behind them shooting something else. I still much prefer them overall. I'll be doing a huge road trip in the US all being well for 3 months or so.

    What a good video im thinking of getting this lens soon over the Sony 35mm 1.4 lens because it covers so much more focal length i think its a wonderful lens. One question ive heard its no good for a Gimbal it that because it has image stabilization inside the lens and camera but cant you turn the stabilization off on the lens ? Does that make it impossible to get clean sharp shots? I am no professional just an Amateur Enthusiast . Thanks for the information. RJ. Philadelphia Pa.

    Hey Geeky, thanks to share your interesting video. You have a lot of experience and you always give me professional advice and also wise ones. I'd like to ask a question: for me is important the sabilization and if I had to buy Sony A7 IV do you suggest to buy the NEW Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 or Sony SEL 24-105 G F/4? I shoot only documentaries and I need only ONE zoom lens. I know the new Tamron is wonderful but maybe could the Sony give me more stabilization? I thank you for your precious news.

    I use the Canon version of this 24-105 lens with an inexpensive Vello
    speedbooster/adapter with fantastic results on my A7iii. Amazing low light and all around lens for everyday use. The entire camera and lens is a little heavy at 3.5 lbs but very usable; even on a moderate sized gimbal.

    Video stabilization is worse with this lens than with non-OSS lenses. I tried two copies when I was using an A7III.

    • @sportster999
      @sportster999 2 роки тому +1

      I can confirm this. The OSS seems to be useless in "standard mode" of the stabilizer which is the only mode available on the A7III. Interestingly no reviewer does report this issue. It seems that most reviewers use the "active mode" of newer Sony cameras for video which effectively disables the OSS and provides some kind of electronic stabilization by cropping the sensor. This is why "active" mode is so much better than "standard mode" on this lens. The OSS seems to be working for stills only.

  • @danivar86
    @danivar86 2 роки тому

    I like the versatility of this lens but I find the zoom ring a bit too stiff, making it impossible to zoom while filmning without severely rocking the camera. I'm dreaming of a PZ version...

    • @danivar86

      I also find the stabilisation less effective for video than some other OSS lenses.

  • @mattknight533

    No one seems to talk about manual focussing with this lens. Is it the focus by wire system, which absolutely sucks? The 24-70 II has a linear option, for pulling proper focus. wish all Sony lenses had this.

      @GeekyNerdyTechy  2 роки тому

      I got the sigma 24-70 2.8 and ended up feeling like this one was a better keeper for my situation. Better reach and stabilisation made more sense than less reach. The background blur between 2.8 and 4 is not that much either.
