    MC20 or Bora? Which would you pick…

      MC20 ofc. Too much drama, speed, versatility and reliability.

      Are you kidding? Bora, absolutely no question. Or maybe a Merak.

      Bora SS 4.9 (not 4.8 as mentioned in the video) please. That was the car that made me fall in love with Maserati as a 9 year old. In the early 70s 160+mph *WAS* a SuperCar! Very few cars were in that rarified air at the time. Boras have proven themselves to be very reliable when taken care of properly. My 1986 QPIII has a detuned engine of the same 4.9 and it is bullet proof.

    I've loved the Bora since I was a teenager. I was finally able to get one last year and am thrilled with it. it's beautiful and drives wonderfully. The only negative for me is that it's very heavy.

    A Bora is a fantastic way to travel, Merak as well, as it is all fun at sub-light speeds. The brakes, if sorted, are fine and will stop the car from a high rate of speed without issue. They do feel very different than a modern car, but they are effective.

    As much as I love technology that Bora interior is so much more aesthetically pleasing than today's digital screen fest's. Plus, the driver can actually focus on driving 🙂

    If I had a near infinite amount of money and I could find the cars, I'd get a Dino and a Bora. And maybe a Daytona and also a Miura. I'd also like a 50 Mercury (tubbed and chopped). Still working on the infinite amount of money

    A very late Merak SS handles far better than a Bora and is a better comparison imo. Not to mention the Merak engine was used by Ligier at Lemans with great success from 73-75.

    I just want to explaine how the brakes works on the Bora. There is no servo but you have instead Citroen's high pressure pump that is used for the hydraulics on the Bora. You don´t use so much power on the brake pedal because you only would regulate a valve with the pedal that then lets through more or less of the alredy pressuresed hydraulic fluid to the calipers.
    The classic Citroen DS had no brake pedal a all. Citroen had replaced it with a small push valve on the floor. The last Citroen model with high pressure brakes was the Citroen XM that had an ordinary pedal but also with a spring between the pedal and the brake valve to make it feel more lika ordinary cars brakes. But that spring was sometimes replaced with a stiff rod by old school Citroen owners to get the same feeling at the pedal as on earlier Citroen models.
    I bought an Bora nearly 30 years ago and after that I have used and worked with some Citroens because I wanted to learn how the hydraulics worked and with knowledge and capability to work on them myself I could even afford to drive an old Citroen. And yes, I still have the Bora in my garage.

    I'm likely dating myself... but I'd take a restored Merak or Bora any day of the week over the current car. Modern supercars, with few exceptions are simply too generic.
    Cars like the Lancia B20 and Fulvia, Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint along with Lamborghini GT 350/400 would provide far more smiles per mile.
    I'd be happier with one restored '54 Maserati A6GCS Berlinetta than a dozen of new MC20s.

    The brakes are just very "Citroen". I learnt to drive in one and there is very little pedal travel but once you are used to that they were great. It's just muscle memory.

    The first time I saw a Bora in person it was a stunning lemon yellow and I thought while not as impressive as the neighbor's Miura to look at it certainly had the fighter jet dash and plush interior the Miura should have been given until the Espada Series III was released in 73 with something very similar to the Bora. Sad to see the MC 20 just like the Alfa 4C look like they have a dash borrowed from a Fiat Panda!

    Errrm, .. I'm not sure the sound in the video did justice to the engine of the Bora, that is, assuming it doesn't sound like a cement mixer on start up, and a Vincent motorcycle everywhere else.
    I'll take one in yellow.

    In the Seventies, people interested in mid-engined cars, would think Lamborghini Miura (SV by then), Dino and Ferrari GT4, Maserati Merak (more affordable) or De Tomaso Pantera. The Bora didn’t really fit into that lot and was quite expensive. For me, the loveliest Maserati of the golden age was the Ghibli,also a Giugiaro design.

  • @thethirdman225
    @thethirdman225 Рік тому

    The problem for the Bora* was that it was intended as a GT but had to compete against more radical machinery, like the Ferrari Boxer and the Lamborghini Countach. It was more staid and conservative than either of them and it was reflected in sales figures. The fact that you could get a Bora almost immediately, while the Boxer and the Countach both took years to arrive, didn’t seem to impress anyone.
    The only thing I don’t like about it is the wheels.
    *Bora is the wind of Trieste. Maserati also named the Khamsin after a wind.

    Now is it, or isn't it built in the 4C platform i.e. carbon tub?

    • @AdviceFromYourDad
      @AdviceFromYourDad 11 місяців тому

      It is not. The platform is from Dallara (the company that supplies several platforms for F1 teams).

    • @arjanvandenbrand2070
      @arjanvandenbrand2070 11 місяців тому

      @@AdviceFromYourDadindeed i learned the MC20 tub is bigger than the tub of the 4C, who's tub is also designed by Dallara. MC20 was supposed to be the Alfa 6C (and the Ferrari Roma was intended to be Maserati Alfieri - but then ideas changed at Alfa Maserati leadership)
