The guy has reviewed cars of all types and prices, has car industry recognized reputation, and yet unlike a lot of UA-camrs, he still feels like a guy next door, he doesn't threat us the viewers like we are small. I've been waiting for this Christmas Gift Video from Doug! I was lucky enough to drive one of these on the German Autobahn with the Owner (an older Collector from Munich) on the Passenger Seat, this thing sound like a WW2 Airplane dive bombing at around 300km/h (186mph).
Here in the Alps we have yearly Events where all Super and Hypercar Owners of the "Supercar Owners Circle" come to an old Swiss Airfield and race their Cars and also tour them on nice Roads through the German, Swiss, French, Italian and Austrian Alps, this always includes TWO Maserati MC12 as well as several Pagani Zonda, Pretty much every Koenigsegg & Bugatti, Lamborghinis from all Generations, Mercedes.Benz McLaren Stirling Moss etc.
For those curious to see them among many other Cars that only collect Dust in Garages of other Collectors, there must be plenty of Videos on UA-cam if you search for "Supercar Owners Circle Event".
Thanks for this detailed Tour Doug, and if you ever get to Germany, you'll definitely get a lot of Cars to review!

About the interior cloth, I remember watching an interview with Frank Stephenson, the designer of this car. It had to do with lightness and uniqueness. Leather would have been heavier, and bare plastic was just unacceptable for such a car, of course. If I remember correctly, he said that he happend to stumble upon this particular fabric while visiting various suppliers in search of something suitable, he liked it and they bought the entire stock. It wasn't specced as "fake carbon", or made especially for Maserati.

Doug, thank for your outstanding review of the Magnificent Maserati MC12.
I fell in love with this car the instant I saw the three-quarter view of it looking into the camera. What a stunning body design. Long and sensuous, built for speed and low and angry at the same time. The exquisite white and blue paint design belied a racing royalty lineage that extends to today. What a magnificent car. What a magnificent engine. I wish you were allowed to drive it on a track so you could go through, at least, three gears, at almost full throttle. What beautiful music she makes.
Bizarrely, one of the true quirks of this car on the racetrack was that, at over 200 mph going on a long downhill straight portion of track, these cars liked to allow air under the front of the car and they would explode off the track and fly a hundred feet in the air doing somersaults as they went. I don't think any driver ever died but it was impressive to say the least. The MC12 was modified to stop that for obvious reasons.
The MC12 is a track car. Although you were allowed to drive this massively rare, beautiful car, the long overhang front end and the long overhang rear end do not survive in a real world street setting well even with the life feature on the car.
Even this rare Maserati shows damage to the bottom of the carbon fiber fins on the diffuser at the rear of the car. This is likely trailering damage. This car is so damn long, trying to get it on a trailer that has any kind of ramp is nearly impossible without rubbing the bottom of those rear fins.
So, she is a very particular car. Built to excel on the track and defeat all competition. And she is one of the most beautiful, most impractical cars ever made.
Thank you, Maserati, for crafting the Masterpiece called the MC12.

Then, I went to a place in Orlando that had two of them. Initially, Maserati planned to only make 25 MC12s, but demand was high and so they decided to make one more production run the following year. Just the video I was looking for, couldn’t decide whether to get myself an Enzo or an MC12 but now I know! 😁😁

What a beautiful car! I consider myself fortunate to have seen an MC12 Corsa driven in anger around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course a few years ago at the SVRA event at IMS (and up close in Gasoline Alley). Hearing it scream down the front straight at full voice and echo through the hallowed grandstands is truly a cherished memory.

I had the great pleasure of seeing this car in person back in 2006 in New Orleans!! It's incredibly large and the paint is insane! why they didn't put glass over the headlamps I will never know

I am guessing because of the "Glass" then having to be tested and certified to (expensive) lightning regulations, something they probably didnt wish to pay for with a production run of 50 cars. Most low volume cars use lights from other cars, like the famous Nissan 300ZX headlights on the Lamborghini Diablo for example.

    Exotic.
There’s another limited production “M” car built exclusively in 2004 & 2005. The Mazdaspeed MX-5.
Coincidence? I think not. Good luck spotting one. 😂
    Great video. Thanks.

You’re the best, Doug. Especially when reviewing a car that you’re really excited about and enjoying. This thing is great, Maserati was like “we need to make 50 for the road? Ok, sure…”.

Only Maserati I’d ever want to own. It’s such a legend. It held the production car record at the Nürburgring for a few years, if I remember right? Like a decently respectable time even by today’s standard. It’s pretty sick.

Doug thank you for making these essay quality reviews. So many of these cars have never been seen on the road and/or are far out of reach. It's great fun for us car nerds to learn more about automotive models! All the best!

Looks like Dougcember is going off to a great start. I remember choosing this MC12 over the Enzo in TestDriveUnlimited back in the day. Maybe its slower than the Enzo but the low production numbers and the overall Maserati- look make it so much more special :) It looks so much more classy with the bodywork in pearl- white and blue.

No way dude. The Enzo is to much red.
The seats are all red as well compared with the MC12 you get two tone colors on the seats that look great.
Plus red is a womans color anyways where as the MC12 has more masculine colors my guy.
Same ordeal with the outside color you get two tone color for the MC12 which looks fantastic with the Enzo you get a womans color of hot red all around.... I know which I'd go with easily.
