    Thanks very much Luke. You have a new subscriber. I have had my GR III for 18 months and didnt know about that Ricoh app even though I am a regular on Fuji X Weekly, since I also own a Fuji X100V. Creating and saving film simulations in- camera is really no more tedious on the GR IIL than on the Fuji, but the Fuji X Raw Studio app makes creating and swapping out film sims so much easier.

      Which camera makes better photos according to your opinion

    • @kbstabs5982
      @kbstabs5982 11 місяців тому +3

      @@emir6110 Hi. "Better" is rather subjective. If we are talking technical performance, I don't feel there is a lot of difference. Both the 27mm (GR) and 35mm (Fuji) (full frame equivalent) lenses are really excellent. Love them =both for different reasons. The GR is so small and ensures that I can always have a camera with me and sometimes the 27 mm is what I really need. The X100V is just so beautiful and a delight to hold and operate. Again, sometimes the 35 mm is what I need in a given situation. Both cameras have qualities that keep me going out to shoot. I have a small camera bag so usually carry both. If we are talking better photos from an aesthetic or artistic point of view, there is, of course, no difference. Looking back over the years, some of my best reviewed (critically acclaimed, ha ha) photos were taken on an IPhone 4 or a Canon S90 (a great little camera). I still use my IPhone SE a lot. All cameras suit my style of photography I just love great technology and looks even if they are not a necessity.

    I liked the photographs with Americana Color. I have the first Sigma DP2, which has a similar lens to the Ricoh GR III, but the use of a computer is mandatory as the camera has not enough computational power to set correctly white balance and all the data of its special sensor. Although the Ricoh has a Bayer sensor seeing how can set so very creative JPEGs without computer is amazing, and thanks to the recipes : D I have seen examples with the positive film mode and they look nice too.

    • @LukeTaylorPhotography
      @LukeTaylorPhotography  2 роки тому +1

      Does the Dp2 use the foveon sensor? I've heard people rave about the sigma colors. I almost bought one on ebay a few months back (I can't remember the exact model) but I ended up not doing it.

    • @ReinoldFZ
      @ReinoldFZ 2 роки тому +1

      @@LukeTaylorPhotography It has the foveon sensor. To my personal tastes the colors are in theory beautiful but sadly they shift when there is not enough light or it is underexposed, or get too electric due to the sensor clipping highlights too fast for not much dynamic range (and I live close to the equatorial line which has harsh sun) It is like its usability is limited to a soft late afternoon diffuse light. And the beautiful colors are 99% of the time only available processing the RAW in the Sigma software which is painfully slow, and even so I then process them in the LensDistortions app. 😅

    • @LukeTaylorPhotography
      @LukeTaylorPhotography  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks G N... The choice between the GR III and GR IIIx is a tough recommendation. I really don't think you can go wrong with either camera. I don't mind the wider focal length on the 3 because I can crop in to 40mm if I want. I have a feeling I'd miss the wide angle if I didn't have it. For me the GR III seemed most utilitarian, but if you prefer a camera with a little more reach, the GR IIIx would definitely offer more.
      I haven't personally tried the GR IIIx but I have a feeling i'd love it just as much as my GR III

    • @rccasgar
      @rccasgar Рік тому

      GR III is more "forgiving" that GR IIIx (as wider focal lengths are). Anyhow, I picked the GR IIIx because cropping to 40mm doesn't give you the same perspective than shooting with 40mm lens (face proportions, etc), and I want the camera to document my family live, trips, etc...
      With small kids I love to be able to shoot a little far away so I can get candid moments.

    You're a great photographer and, might I say, the sexiest man alive. A cross between a young Elvis and Ryan Gosling. Just sayin'. Setting up those color profiles look antiquated and watching all the damn buttons you had to press gave me a headache. That's O.K., but do you think Ricoh will have a GX lV someday?

    Hi I'm trying to decide between the GR iii and GR iii x. I think I want to go with the wider lens which is the GR iii. Is there anything else I might be missing out on?
    Also, this is a great video. Great to know those simulations can also be done on the Ricoh.

    IMO, these are all merely FILTERS, albeit being given more sophisticated names.
    Of course, there are filters that aesthetically produce the trendy type of colours and looks advertised by social media and hence, lusted after by enthusiasts who’re very busy within photography social media.
    Fujifilm cleverly exploits its users by making them enthuse, advertise and create continued hot news and hot debates over Fujifilm’s filters called “Film Simulations”. I have been using Fujifilm and GR3 since 4yrs ago.
    The above is the USP of Fujifillm.
    Ricoh cleverly plays a different game. Instead of enthusing about filters (exclusively done by Fujifilm), Ricoh exploits its Key Opinion Leaders, many of whom are unemployed, to enthuse, promote and talk about street photography, fun & compact size, snap focus etc.
    In the end, they are all merely FILTERS.
    I would like you to try 2 apps:
    FILMROLL
    ProCCD
    Imo, they are wonderful and convenient in capturing the analogue film look. Based on your pics taken in Albania, im very sure the 2 apps will give you stunningly lovely results in Albania.
    Currently, im hooked onto both apps and loving them to bits🤩🤩

      Hey JK Low! Thanks for the input. Yes, I agree, the "film simulations" are essentially glorified filters.
      I'm excited to try out those apps you mentioned. I've not heard of them. I'm going to download them today.

      Trash talks about fuji and ricoh film simulations being 'merely filters' while in the end promoting apps that add analogue film filters to photos... the irony is not lost.

      Learn to have an open mind, to explore all avenues with no biasness.
      Fujifilm and Ricoh are good stuff, but they are not everything. Its just that both brands have been cleverly advertised on English-based American social media.
      If you explore other non-English based photography sites (which Im sure you dont) the situation is very different.
      So, most English-based photography enthusiasts are confined within their own English-based playground where the “star” is often the X100V, GR3, newer Sony stuff etc, where M4/3 are bad-mouthed etc. Its the same old game.
