Congratulations, Acemoglu, Robinson, and Simon! After reading your mind-bending works for years, which answered all our haunting questions on development and why some nations are poor, we are now excited as if we got this prize :) and so happy for you. Well deserved and more to come to you.
Simon, what an incredible honesty to tell this truth about the effects of European colonialism and its persistent effects in a loud voice to the world and that too coming from Sheffield ancestry! Wovv. Salutes to you. I also appreciate the direction you gave on responsible pro worker AI.
I deeply appreciate the Nobility of the Noble committee too.
    This gives confidence to us.

"THE necessity of my reform is to prevent revolution!" Therefore if revolution can be prevented by peaceful reforms that demonstrate from speech the change necessary, then you prevent protesting and riots at a higher degree, "there you go!"😊

Excellent insights, and lectures! Thank You, Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, and James Robinson!
Hm, why do I feel extracted, and exploited?

I would like to see if this analysis explains why the US is so different from its peer nations as measured by almost every metric. Compare the US with Canada, Argentina, Peru, South Africa, Australia, Korea.
Is there a point in the lectures that covers this? I also wonder about the self-selection bias among the settlers.

Wonderful speech topics! But I wonder if the Nobel institution can/will provide subtitles for this video?
It became quite hard to catch up starting around the middle of the lecture when the lecturer featured various technical terms 😂😂😅

The Nobel Institution has very little to do with this prize except the name. The official name of the prize is "Sveriges Riksbanks pris i ekonomisk vetenskap till Alfred Nobels minne" which translates to "Sweden's Riksbank's Prize in Economic Science in memory of Alfred Nobel" (Riksbank = Swedish central bank).

In the so-called successful economies of the us ,Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, we see an underclass of the indigenous peoples who have been dispossessed. Most are a broken people with addiction and social violence rife. They continue as a reminder of the exploitive policies of the British governments of the colonial era.

Robinson doesn’t understand the Analects, nor was he familiar with Confucius. The Analects is not a merely collection of aphorisms, its the culmination of Chinese historical wisdom, which requires guidance from a mentor rather than just reading the words.
Confucius wanted to tell people about the relationship between human nature and laws, emphasizing that simply adhering to legal procedures mechanically does not equate to problem-solving. Fathers and sons denouncing each other would not only fail to resolve underlying issues but could also exacerbate the malevolence within their hearts. Only by addressing the evil within one's heart can truly resolve problems.
This insight also reveals the essence of human nature and laws; they are not zero-sum, complementary, nor mutually exclusive, but rather two different facets of the same reality. Here, there is no strict notion of right or wrong; instead, it is essential to understand the essence of the issue, human natures dont change, laws always change

Do we have an economist here?

    • @leolok2632

We are our own economist. By our own experience in life, we know what's right and wrong, what works and what not.

Don't flatter yourselves. Economics is not a science, it is an opinion.

Economics is not a hard science, but can still use scientific methods to analyze economies. Furthermore, MOST things are not hard sciences, and yet we are perfectly happy to listen to the experts on those subjects. Why is it that economics is the only one that gets this "yeah but it's not a real science" treatment?
