  • This Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus came in to me for No Power. Customer stated it was originally bootlooping, where it shows the Samsung Logo only. But when I got it, it was dead. Upon closer inspection, I found there was another tech’s repair attempts on here. So it’s now my job to take on this case & solve it so I can get the customer’s pictures & videos out of it.
⭐️ Do you need your data recovered? Send me a message for a quote: www.vccboardrepairs.com/conta...
First step to troubleshooting a phone that does not turn on, is to check the boot consumption on a DC Power Supply. In this case, the current draw was going crazy, up and down, but never going further than about 250mA. This is not a good sign. I like to call it a “current loop”.
Once I inspected the motherboard, I found that some shields were removed & who knows what exactly what attempted on this board. Sadly, there are a lot of bad techs out there who will damage customer’s phones beyond repair.
So for these types of cases, we will offer a CPU Swap. This is where we transplant the CPU, RAM and UFS onto a working motherboard. This process is very long & tedious, as you see, but it’s often times the only real path to recovering the customer’s data.
It is not something anything should just try on their own. These chips are very delicate & they’re glued down to the motherboard. One wrong move & the data is lost FOREVER.
So please take caution as to who you choose to recover your data.
In this video, I show the full process of pulling the UFS, RAM & CPU. I show how to clean all the ugly Samsung underfill and how to reball all the chips using 183C temp solder paste & 138C temp solder paste.
And lastly, I show how to install the chips & back up their data using Samsung Smart Switch.

I had a go at a bunch of old A10 CPU ipads I had lying around, I removed the chips perfectly, reballed them perfectly, But each time, I got a short on the 1.2V rail.... Well maybe one day I might be able to pull it off successfully.

Dont forget the trick of putting a plastic utility clamp on the CPU to get it too boot and recover data. I had a samsung tablet stuck in boot loop, and the first time i tried using the utility clamp by putting it on the CPU, it booted right away and touch was fixed. Now a perfect board to practice reballing

@@VCCBoardRepairs CAREFULL with heat on the Samsung boards.!?. I just spent hours yesterday cleaning my chips and the board all perfect, now I just noticed the board has a bubble in it, im gussing i used to much heat and seperated the layers. Glad i noticed cause its hard to spot. Device isTab 6E Lite. Also my first time dealing with samsung glue, So i think it probably happened because at first I didnt think there was any glue because its clear and contained under the edges, so i kept heating waiting for it to loosen. :$

It's q bit tricky, but if you know the exact spot to clamp, it works in 90% of cases without having to resolder chip. Of course it's not a permanent fix, only for data recovery. I remember using this method on LG V10's which had a lot of these boot-looping issues.

The lack of solder around the perimeter of the nand seems like a weak point and design failure.
Have you tried different glues on the corners of nand?

I've been having really good success soldering chips with pure rosin. Especially on lead free preballed chips. Mechanic X9 Rosin is the best I've used so far, it is possibly X Grade and on sentrix. If someone tried to do this as a long term repair, I think using rosin would help with some structural support for the chips when it hardens, it also protects against liquid damage. "Electronics repair school" has a great instructional video, but its behind a paywall "Best soldering flux for swapping chips without reballing"

Im probably going to get a lot of hate for this comment, but I have to say it, because I notice this behaviour in every video I watch from Jesse. Look, I hope you take this as constructive feedback: I understand you consider yourself to be above 90% of the technicians and repair shops out there, however, it comes across as very rude and offensive to trashtalk all other tech shops, instead of creating trust in the industry, you are doing the opposite, you dont need to do that to drive customers your way, in fact, the less you do that, the more humble you come across and you let youtr work do the talking.
I'm sorry for saying this, I really want to enjoy your videos because your content is very good and special, but in general, as my grandfather used to say: "dont praise yourself, let your work and others do that for you"
Again Im sorry, Im just a viewer that sees your videos and notices how much trashtalking and putting down other shops there is. Not good for the right to repair movement :(

    • @VCCBoardRepairs
      @VCCBoardRepairs  2 місяці тому

I appreciate the feedback. Although I think if you had to deal with all the trainwrecks I see, you'd probably feel the need to speak out against it.
I am not calling any specific person out for their work
But I do want to caution potential customers of the risks of who they choose. Often times, they don't know that this is specialized work that most repair shops can't do
I've had several customers tell me the first shop they went to seemed legit. Had good ratings and whatnot. But turns out they are good at basic stuff but suck at soldering and destroyed the customer's device.
Many times, the last shop's mistakes lose all chances of a successful data recovery and customers don't realize that is possible
So many think I have some magical tool I can just plug the board into and pull their data. But as you may know, that's not the case.
Then I'm the one stuck trying to explain to the customer why their data is inaccessible and it's an awkward conversation to have.
It's hard to explain technical reasons why data is permanently lost to someone who is not technical

    • @ReggeditCh04
      @ReggeditCh04 2 місяці тому +2

@@VCCBoardRepairs this is by far the most beautiful Comment and answer I've ever read. I agree with both of you ❤️
      The Conclusion is
"Not all of the repair shops are good at micro-soldering."
Choose wisely, a good technician will not get offended by Jesse. Bcs almost all technicians have already seen the worst botched phone from another shop.
But reminding him to be a bit more humble is not bad advice for technicians. Not just for jesse, but for all of us.

@@VCCBoardRepairs Hey, big thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I totally get where you're coming from, and it's cool to have these discussions. Just a quick heads up though, maybe give your recent vids a once-over. Your work speaks volumes, man, no need to keep hammering the same point which happens often in other videos.
I've been tuning into other teachers like Carlos Quiceno, Edgar, and Alex from Northridge Fix, and I'm digging their vibe. They're all about showing off their skills without throwing shade at other shops, you know what I mean? (Note: Not saying they dont get mad when other shops damage the boards, they do, and mention it, but not all the time) Anyway, I'm a fan of your content, and I think keeping it positive could really amp things up.
And yeah, I'm with you on the whole 'practicing on consumers' boards' thing. But dissing other shops? Doesn't that kind of go against the whole 'right to repair' vibe we're all about? Just a thought. Let's keep the good vibes flowing, yeah? Catch you later!

@@wagnerdiaz6997 where in the "right to repair" movement does it say not to mention bad work being done by bad shops?
That's the main reason why manufacturers don't want independent repair shops working on their devices, because noobs destroy the phones and now they have to deal with the customer trying to warranty the device with them
Right to repair is about doing quality work.
No one doing quality work would take offense to what I'm saying.

Say even if you are using low heat to take off a component the moment when the component you are heating starts to float by that time some sensitive component far across or right below it either has joint issue or will short to ground. Also if you become lazy to put the pcb on a fixture while working specifically when using hot air gun these pcb tend to bend thus some ic’s solder ball will short to ground too.
