The thing I hate most about these "I gotta hide out" type situations in movies and books is people always move to small towns. That's literally the worst thing to do, small towns immediately make note of new people. Especially new people who act weird. The best places to hide out in are cities, because there's just way too many people to find you and if anything weird happens, most people write it off and/or mind their business

    • @Panteni87
      @Panteni87 4 роки тому +138

It would depend on who you're hiding from. Cities are filled with CCTV with tracking possibilities

    • @silverYolo
      @silverYolo 4 роки тому +207

@@Panteni87 honestly, it's still easier in cities than in towns. Cameras in cities, they'll have to sit down and watch hours of footage just to maybe catch a glimpse of you among a bigger crowd of people, especially if they have no clue where you were. Dye your hair and wear an eye patch and a prosthetic nose and your not getting found. In a town? Like 50 people have already posted about you living in the old house down the road before youve even done anything.

@@Panteni87 that software is very outdated and was wrong even when it was used. Not to mention how easily fooled it's being currently, thanks to the riots in honk Kong. None of which matters per se though because that's china. The US definitely doesn't have anything near on par (as bad as it is regardless)

I'm starting to think this book could've been better as an animated series on Netflix. Instead of a crappy early 2000s live action flick.

    • @viktoria_pikovsky
      @viktoria_pikovsky 4 роки тому +66

LA TV series on Netflix is a more fitting adaptation for the book series then animated one. The story of the books doesn't really calls for animation, and a movie series could had worked out if the movie was made by more confident writers.
The story is just basically X-men if they were aliens, and we do have a lot of great LA X-men movies. The story of the books isn't really cartoonish, and it's grounded in reality enough to work out perfectly in LA.
It's more that early 2000's YA movies fell into the Twighshit hole, and decided to adapt stuff more as a suppy love stories rather then the action flicks they are. And it damaged a lot of good books which could had turned out into awesome franchises. The Mortal Instruments are great example for that, actually. The movie was shit, but it was later redacted into a rather decent and successful TV series.

Honestly, I feel like animation would always work better for adapting fantasy books. You don't have to age up characters to get better actors, you can make things match descriptions, and you recreate a lot of things like action scenes and the like in animation.

I read this years ago! Additional changes that i remember:
-While they did initially believe the hand lights were Four's first power, he retroactively realizes it was animal telepathy as at the beginning of the book he talks about sensing the feelings of deer
-All the numbers have telekinesis as a common power
-Four was 15 at the start of the series 1-2 years younger than Sarah
-Because he and Sam were only 15 they didn't have a license and it made the drive to rescue Henri a big deal, with the book talking about how jumpy Sam was at the start but how he gradually relaxed, plus the whole drive they were worried about being pulled over because the trucks tag is expired since only Sam's dad drove it
-Henri mentions that the soulmate thing doesn't actually work with people from other planets, Four can love Sarah but she will not be his soulmate the way she would be if she was also from their planet
-When Four does his runs, Bernie does them with him and out speeds him as an early hint that he isn't a dog
-A detail i think the movie left out was that the people on their planet were divided by classes with the class that the numbers were in being the unimportant one, but once the planet was invaded they became the priority, while the protectors like Henri would have been nobles but were "reduced" to warriors until the Numbers were matured enough to protect them again
Honestly, the fact that I remember this much about a book I read once almost 10 years ago makes me think it was probably a good book

With Disney+, the books being published by a company owned by Disney and the popularity of them, there's a fair chance that might happen. Not sure if the same can be said with this franchise, since it's not as beloved or well known as Percy Jackson, but there's hope.

Quick note: Credit Card company websites historically have pathetic security.
One website (Capital One, iirc) added a key to the url that, if changed to somebody else’s key, gave you full access to THE OTHER PERSON’S ACCOUNT.
The reason why they did that? “It made making the interface easier”
Wells Fargo enforced wildly insecure password policies (for real, Warframe has better password policies) for years after they were known to be insecure, etc...

There's more that came out after the lorien legacies for those who are asking. Here is the order
    The Lorien Legacies
    I Am Number Four
    The Power of Six
    The Rise of Nine
    The Fall of Five
    The Revenge of Seven
    The Fate of Ten
    United as One
    The Lost Files:
    The Legacies
    Secret Histories
    Hidden Enemies
    Rebel Allies
    Zero Hour
The ones that I listed after are events that happened after The Lorien Legacies, they featured new characters. They are scenes where the original gardes comes in.
    Generation One
    Fugitive Six
    Return to Zero
Here are the ones that featured Six and Sam.
    Trial by Fire
    Out of the Shadows
I don't recommend reading the legacies chronicles since its terrible in my opinion, but if you really enjoyed Six and Sam, it's up to you.

Thanks for the awesome review Krim! I waited for it for years, and the wait was definitely worth it. I actually read the books, up to the 5th one, and let me tell you that while the 1st book isn't that impressive, the series as a whole is one of the more unique and colorful YA franchises that currently exist (alongside Rick Riordan's books and Suzan Collin's Hunger Games trilogy). The movie doesn't do any justice to neither the first book, nor the the rest of the series. The book is miles better then this poor excuse for adaptation, and it's highly recommended to read for anyone who is interested in paranormal YA fiction.
And to just explain a few book points that came up in the review for all people who are okay with minor spoilers- Number 4, or Jon as he would stay named in the books, is really not the best in kipping low profile. He is much better in hiding them his movie counterpart, but nothing of a subtle with his powers, especially around people who already know about them. And he is one of the duoshier of the Loreans, So his portray in the beginning of the movie is more or less similar to his portray in the later books. Jon is really likable in the first book, but after it he became somewhat annoying to me, even when he is not that bad of a character.
Six is also quite of a missed oportunity for the movie. She is such a badass character in the books, spouting one liners left and right like the true action hero that she is. In the movie tho, she is barely 10th of the character she is in the books, more so when the movie cut most of her literary god-like powers, like being able to control the weather much like Storm from X-men! And that on top of that the movie cut out the buildup for friendship and relationship with Jon and Sam, which would be one of the bigger parts of her story in the later books.
Mark and Sarah are also reduce to absolute nothing in the movie, despite them being two of the most important side characters of the entire book series, along side Sam's dad and his story (spoilers for book 2 and up).
Also, good job on talking about the Geods and the second spaceship, as those are huge plot points for the entire series, starting from book 2. The second spaceship is especially important, as it's one of the central details of the story, and it's one of the pillars that the entire series is build upon. Tho I can't blame the movie for cutting it out, as it is kinda a big spoiler moment, more so that it only get's explained in books 2 and 3. The geods are also really important, tho far less then the spaceship. The geods serve mostly as just a macguffin to help out in the reunion of all 7 surviving Loreans (and no, I didn't miscalculate, it's just a small spoiler), but it is important for a few big events in books 4 and up.
What the movie really did cut out tho, and it was really important for it to include if te film makers wanted to adapt the rest of the books, is the box that Jon and hanry curried around with them, and all the treasures that were hidden in it. The box, and the explanation on it's content, is one of the best expositions for understanding the entire series. There is one item that through it we get basically the entire backstory of Lorean, a few other items that serve as weapons for Jon and his friends, and a few other stuff that through them, without giving out any spoilers, help the reader to really understand the powers of each of the Lorean kids, and how their powers work. Even the boxes themselves are kinda a big deal for the characters, so much so that a bigger chunk of the books are all about looking after the damn things. And the treasures in them are really, really big parts of the story. So thanks movie for reducing it to just some piece of heirloom junk that Henry keeps around because "it's just a memory from their home planet".
Actually, Henry's little "side mission" is also quite important. I can't really explain why because it would give up a whole bunch of spoilers, but I can only say that thanks Krim for pointing it out too. This, and Sam's dad disappearance were two of the worst handled plot points in the movie, and I don;t even know how the filmmaker would had continued to explore on them if they really did go on to make a second movie.
all in all, this was a great review. The movie is shit, but it's analysis is pure gold. As always, Krim did a great justice to the book and explaining the changes in adaptation, and now I wanna reread it just so I can be reminded again how much the movie ruined a perfect little story. I'm a big fan of the book series, and this review helped me to remember why I love them so much, while I hate the movie.

I hardly watched the movie(abt 15 mins, just when Sarah and 4 meet), and I already hate it. They adopt Bernie Kosar at the wrong time, the meet sarah the wrong way, the dialogue between sarah and john is awkward and not the same in the book, Sarah's mom is completely ignored, and, if you ask me, the scars are WAY too big. One thinking I remember thinking was that the kids never really abused their “protection” as in, have anyone but 1 be super training, talk via internet or something non direct to break the rule, then once they are godmode have them start slapping back hard against the invasion force... I guess they tried to explain it away via having nine been capured but it felt weak, how do shmucks capture a literal superhero... I guess nine was a cocky cunt tho, at least to start. Didnt watch the movie tho, never trusted it would be adapted well, time to watch the video

This movie got me into a very intriguing book series and for that I am thankful. Was it good? Nah, but that was due to trying to be marketable to a certain audience. Those kids got beat up and lost quite often, and it gave a sense of scale that they were in fact just kids and gravely outmatched. It was a story about orphans being hunted down because they were chosen at birth to fight in a war they didn’t even understand. It was a great series, I wish they could’ve adapted more and followed the books closer.
