Power Tool Battery Pack Comparison

Battery packs have increased their power density. This is quickly seen comparing the older Ryobi NiCd battery packs with their current Li battery packs. They charge-up faster and run longer. For the same 18 volts we now have four (4x) times the energy. Similarly we also have packs from other manufacturers such as Milwaukee. Look for newer battery packs with the higher current 21700 cells. They pack more power and energy.
20 volt and even 40 volt battery packs drive hi-power tools, though they still have a ways to improve before competitive with AC-powered, or pneumatic tools.
