However, .45 Schofield has been kinda lost to time, with .45 Colt becoming more popular, even leading to the eventual making of .454 Casull (a cartridge that became the most powerful round after .44 Magnum), which then led to the development of the second strongest handgun on the market: .460 Magnum. In other words, if you had a .45 Colt Single Action Army (Cattleman or Peacemaker) in that time frame, you can shoot .45 Schofield, which was done in the military, as they adopted .45 Schofield at that time. The Schofield was sold to the US Army for $13.50 a piece. I’m sure that on the civilian market it was sold for about $20 - $30 per unit. But there is no way anybody in 1899 would buy a Schofield for $80+.
FOR PEOPLE THAT WANT FACTUAL INFORMATION ON THE .45 COLT v .45 SCHOFIELD: Judging by the number of likes on this comment and the replies, I think this needs correction. The term "considerably weaker" is not accurate, at least I don't agree with "considerably". I would like to preface this information that the difference between the 2 cartridges can be even further nullified (out of revolvers) if we're discussing modern loads using modern powders. But for the sake of the game, I'll assume you're talking about period-correct ammunition using black powder only. As mentioned above, using modern loads, you can actually load both cartridges rather hot. What gun the cartdige is being used in plays into how hot it can be loaded. For example, a .45 colt can actually be loaded up to as hot or even hotter than .44 magnum loads *however*, this is not a possibility if you're going to be shooting it out of an old-school cowboy revolver such as the schofield or colt SAA. Such a load would explode the gun, since they're not designed for such pressures. This would be a load you'd fire out of a modern rifle or a Ruger Super Red Hawk revolver. With the use of black powder only and remaining in the estimated 14500 PSI max pressure for most revolvers of this time, you can typically load the .45 colt 100-200 feet per second faster than the .45 schofield of equal bullet weight. While the extra boost in velocity is nice, and factually does make it carry more energy onto the target - exactly how much energy is not a huge difference, especially when it comes to hangun velocities. The truth is that for most handgun cartridges with the exception of hotter magnum loads, all you're really doing is poking holes into your target. All of those gnarly exit wounds and pulverized flesh you hear about rarely ever exists with handguns due to their velocities. The truth of the matter is neither the colt .45 or .45 schofield cartridge is likely to even exit the human body from center mass impacts. They're simply not going fast enough - neither of them. While there is no hollow points in this time period, all bullets tend to mushroom on impact to some degree, giving them a slight level of expansion. Again however, neither cartidge is moving fast enough to reliably and consistently mushroom, even if it does sometimes. Not that mushrooming adds any extra damage really anyway, you'd really want to see expansion (hollowpoints) or fragmentation (velocity), both of which will not occur with such slow projectiles. Even if there were hollowpoints available for these bullets back in 1875, it wouldsn't matter. Both cartrdiges won't safely go past 900 FPS even with modern powder when fired from an old-school gun. Hollow points need over 1000 FPS to expand, and ideally pushing 1100 or more. This is why +P ammo is so common these days. Because of this, the "percieved power" of the .45 colt over the .45 schofield is mathmaticall true, but when translated into real world scenarios, it makes no difference. For this reason, claiming one of these rounds is "considerably more powerful" than the other is actually rather misleading. In actuality, if somebody was shot in the exact same spot with either bullet fired from a period-correct gun with period-correct load, the resulting damage would be identical. Hope this helps and you guys found it interesting.
Love the Schofield Revolver, my go-to sidearm. Usually wield one Schofield, and Otis Miller's Revolver (which is a unique version of the Schofield you can find).
I liked the LeMat more than the Schofield because it fires nine revolver rounds plus one shotgun round but since the LeMat came in late into the game, it doesn't have the same attachments that I formed with the Schofield revolvers.
The Schofield revolver is legitimately my second favorite weapon in the game It was only beaten by the M1899 because I love the more "futuristic" design of the pistol, but untill chapter 4 you know I only rock the Schofield
I love how sometimes they break the revolver’s cylinder sideways as a gun nut that rubs me the wrong way but overall I’m very impressed with the realism of the guns in the game.
I hate the swing-open cylinder animation they use. They do it again later with John’s cattleman. They also almost never cock the hammers on the revolvers in the cutscenes. It drives me crazy, lol.
That would be the Lancaster repeater, not Schofield Revolver. Winchester is a pretty well regarded location in England, being the former seat of power. Lancaster is a shithole.
I wish you could just listen to the dialogue of the guns you already own, I have no idea why that isn't an option. Just have have a "Can't buy a gun you already own" warning pop up and have them say something like "Sorry, that one is already reserved for another customer"
As bad as it can be for very long term use because of the weakpoints it has, it had a great place in history. One day I'll own one and buy five replacement parts.
Valentine's gunssmith talk about Schofield is actually reminding me the Kid's in "The quick and the dead": "The gun shoots straight, i wouldh't sell if it didh't"
The Schofield was made to be used on horseback, easier reloading. The only reason they didn't get the contract with the military was that The Cold .45 SAA (cattleman in game) could take .45 Long Colt AND the Schofield bullets, and the Schofield could only take its own, and the army already had lots of .45 LC.
In classic Army fashion, they ditched the Schofield revolvers and then ditched _the Colt ammunition_ because the lower power of Schofield round made the recoil more manageable.
Alr ima go over how they sounds based off their reactions for no reason: Valentine Gunsmith:Proud to sell and likes it. Tumbleweed Gunsmith:nonchalant but still recommends it. Saint Denis Gunsmith:Enjoys it and explains his joy of it. Rhodes Gunsmith:explains a disadvantage but thinks it’s an advantage. Annesburg Gunsmith:Highly recommends it and says he could win a duel with it.
I literally have never heard any of these lines. I’ve played the game for like 1300 hours. I’ve played at at least every few weeks since the day it came out. What is happening!
It seems like they're going more for expectations based on looks rather than real life performance. The Schofield is a bigger and bulkier gun, so the initial expectation from people who aren't well versed in firearms is that it must be bigger because it holds bigger bullets and so hits harder
Why the fuck did someone at rockstar look at a too break revolver and go “hmm yes you should be able to turn the cylinder to the side to see if it’s loaded”
Tbh im very upset that they made the schofield do more damage than the cattlemen. They even gave the cattleman a faster reload speed despite that being completely unrealistic. The schofield had a smaller bullet due to sw veing unwilling to chamber their weapon in 45 colt because they didnt want people purchasing the larger superior cartridge
I wouldn't say the colt was superior. The Army ended up adopting the Schofield ammunition for all their Colt guns, and Browning based the 45 ACP off of it. Almost identical ballistics to 45 ACP
@astrotrek3534 mostly true but eventually the schofield was cast aside due to the military wanting more power in their hand guns, and yet Rockstar makes it the gun that does more damage while giving the colt a faster reload! It's literally backwards
I always cringe when they open the breach on the revolvers from the side lol. The Schofield is a break action and the cylinder on the Colt SAA doesn't open out from the side either, it only rotates. IDK how they screwed that up with all the meticulous detail they put in this game

The Schofield was sold to the US Army for $13.50 a piece. I’m sure that on the civilian market it was sold for about $20 - $30 per unit. But there is no way anybody in 1899 would buy a Schofield for $80+.
One of my most favorite guns in the game it is just so good
FOR PEOPLE THAT WANT FACTUAL INFORMATION ON THE .45 COLT v .45 SCHOFIELD:
Judging by the number of likes on this comment and the replies, I think this needs correction.
0:15 I like the reference to the line in The Quick and the Dead here.
“I’m real excited to try this”
Schofield revolver is my personal favourite weapon
Love the Schofield Revolver, my go-to sidearm. Usually wield one Schofield, and Otis Miller's Revolver (which is a unique version of the Schofield you can find).
I liked the LeMat more than the Schofield because it fires nine revolver rounds plus one shotgun round but since the LeMat came in late into the game, it doesn't have the same attachments that I formed with the Schofield revolvers.
All the gun smiths are so good. I hope more of these come out for other weapons too! and other locations
The Schofield is always my go to gun when playing.
I like that he breaks the revolver when he immediately finds it.
The Schofield revolver is legitimately my second favorite weapon in the game
It was only beaten by the M1899 because I love the more "futuristic" design of the pistol, but untill chapter 4 you know I only rock the Schofield
If the navy was in the story it’d be game over
@@guycampbell3530Bruh you can mail the guns to the single player camp. For fuck sake its on a loading screen…
"i'm real excited to try this" *proceeds to point it at the shop owners head*
I love how sometimes they break the revolver’s cylinder sideways as a gun nut that rubs me the wrong way but overall I’m very impressed with the realism of the guns in the game.
Pronounce it all you want as 'shofield' I will always pronounce it like 'Skohfield.'
That first reaction is a reference to The Quick and the Dead gunstore scene i'm positive
I only use the Schofield dual wield. I go through gun oil like m&m’s
Its funny how the action breaks to the side when you first pick it up from the box
Such a missed opportunity to not have a unique grip for the Schofield.
this thing costs over 3000$ in today's money.
Everyone loves schofields.
>Guy runs a shop full of guns
>Chooses to defend himself with a knife
Last guy missed the chance to say "If I were in a duel, this would be my tool"
This is how you know you got a good gun, when even the npc's are complimenting you.
This video made it clear to me how to correctly pronounce the name of this revolver 😮😮😮
I hate the swing-open cylinder animation they use. They do it again later with John’s cattleman. They also almost never cock the hammers on the revolvers in the cutscenes. It drives me crazy, lol.
The sch in Schofield is pronounced as you pronounce the sch in school

"She shoots strong and straight, I wouldn't sell it if it didn't."
Quick and the Dead reference, gun shop scene
Arthur breaks the barrel of the gun to check if it's loaded
I wonder if this is R* taking a dig at Winchester for not letting them use their name in the sequel.
That would be the Lancaster repeater, not Schofield Revolver. Winchester is a pretty well regarded location in England, being the former seat of power. Lancaster is a shithole.
@@NeverKetamine Lmao wtf are you talking about? These are all American guns and have nothing to do with England...
I wish you could just listen to the dialogue of the guns you already own, I have no idea why that isn't an option. Just have have a "Can't buy a gun you already own" warning pop up and have them say something like "Sorry, that one is already reserved for another customer"
Saint denis gunsmith should be protected at all costs, such a sweet dude
Bro checks his Schofield like a modern S&W with a swing out cylinder 💀💀
I didn’t even know they said stuff about guns like this
Makes me think of Unforgiven - the "Schofield Kid" 😁
I think it's hilarious that the gunsmith in Annesburg chases you with a knife...irony.
a gunsmith that protects himself with a knife
1:12 is this guy russian?
Nobody is gonna comment on the fact that the first gunsmiths line is a quote from "the quick and the dead"
Used these pretty much for the entire game. Just swapped them out for the LeMat with John.
I only used this a lot in RDR1 because it looks like the one in Trigun tbh.
It's sad none of them said. "just meat and potatoes"
The Annesburg and the Valentine Gunsmith are the most cool of them all ❤❤
Alr ima go over how they sounds based off their reactions for no reason:
Valentine Gunsmith:Proud to sell and likes it.
Tumbleweed Gunsmith:nonchalant but still recommends it.
Saint Denis Gunsmith:Enjoys it and explains his joy of it.
Rhodes Gunsmith:explains a disadvantage but thinks it’s an advantage.
Annesburg Gunsmith:Highly recommends it and says he could win a duel with it.
that mf gunsmith from saint denis could upsale a bagel
*Real OGs use the Cattleman*
All the legendary cattleman's are the best revolvers.
grrr... revolvers make me feel HAPPY
I constomized this with silver and gold and with engraving it is my favorite gun
I literally have never heard any of these lines. I’ve played the game for like 1300 hours. I’ve played at at least every few weeks since the day it came out. What is happening!
0:04 oh you already broke it…
Guy owns gun store. Charges at you with a knife lol.
It's funny how they hype the Schofield up as too powerful for some when in reality, it wasn't as powerful as the Colt Single Action Army
It seems like they're going more for expectations based on looks rather than real life performance. The Schofield is a bigger and bulkier gun, so the initial expectation from people who aren't well versed in firearms is that it must be bigger because it holds bigger bullets and so hits harder
Maybe all the Cattlemen in RDR2 are .38s-40s.
I think The first one is a reference to Leonardo DiCaprios line in "The Quick and The Dead" it's way to similar
Why the fuck did someone at rockstar look at a too break revolver and go “hmm yes you should be able to turn the cylinder to the side to see if it’s loaded”
THESE ARE YOU'R FINAL MOMENTS
Yes, video ends
1:48 "Huh, Isn't that just like a wop. Brings a revolver to a knife fight." - Mr. Schultz
I didn’t know you could get them to comment on the guns!!
There's view option.
THESE ARE YOUR FINAL MOMENTS
*video ends*
Schofield back then is the glock today
0:18 *_Yet you're selling the Volcanic Pistol._*
"These are your final moments" lmao He don't know Arthur to well.
My favourite revolver
Hold up I've been saying it wrong the entire time it's show field that sko field naw I'm still calling it Sko field
Yeah I've been saying sko field for more than thirty years. If I'm wrong, I don't wanna be right!
You have been saying it correctly. The game used different names and spelling to avoid trademark and copyright.
I have never in my life heard anyone pronounce the name schofield as showfield before
I'm pretty sure the Tumbleweed gunsmith is the sheriff from Red Dead Revolver
it is pretty good in both games
i'm still mad as hell you can't get a walker or any of the dragoon models in this game.
I always cringe when they open the breach on the revolvers from the side lol. The Schofield is a break action and the cylinder on the Colt SAA doesn't open out from the side either, it only rotates. IDK how they screwed that up with all the meticulous detail they put in this game
Models giant swivel hinge on gun
Has it break open to the side
Bethesda
