It’s so beautiful that YOKO SHIMOMURA HERSELF gave us a Hand in Hand arrangement for Sora’s victory fanfare. And also, the moment the fire dies out, the fighters revert to soulless trophies in the darkness… except for that one last spark of light in the deepest darkness waking up Mario, who takes that last spark and uses it to bring the light back to Smash: by bringing Sora here. And the moment he arrives, the light wakes them up once more. And thus, their hearts are connected: the first Smasher bringing the final Smasher home. The bookend of the first reveal and this last hurrah. This whole trailer was full of connections and a love letter to Smash AND Kingdom Hearts as a whole. After all, what has always been a prominent trait of Sora’s? *Connections.* Namely, connecting all of these worlds together in one game, ultimately bringing us full circle.
I can only imagine the absolute nightmare it must have been dealing with all those Disney lawyers to get Sora in this game. Sakurai and his team are amazing

I was having my breakfast when I heard my GF screaming at the top of her lungs. I rush to her room and asked what happen. She just pointed at her Screen. And I was speechless when I saw Sora in smash, while she just jumping up and down screaming in joy. Now I have to replay the whole KH series with her again.
Bayonetta won back in Smash 4 because she had the most votes of any characters they could get the rights to put in Smash. Even if someone like Goku, Master Chief, or Sora got more votes, it wasn't feasible to try to negotiate with Disney and still fit the character into the DLC release cycle. Honestly, they probably approached Disney with it at the time, and only now do we actually have Sora, because it legit took years.
Yeah. Kingdom Hearts is really complicated legally speaking, because Disney owns the IP and all the rights to it, but Square has the exclusive license to KH video game stuff, so if Disney had just allowed Nintendo to do this it's possible they would have breached their contract with Square. Because even if Disney owns Kingdom Hearts 100%, there's still a contract about the exclusive rights with Square. So it's entirely possible Nintendo had to ask Disney, Disney had to ask Square, Square and Disney had to settle this and had their army of lawyers change the existing contract, which is always a legal nightmare, and only then could Disney and Nintendo start their negotiations. That must have been years in the making before any of the Smash Bros team were even allowed to start working.
Master Chief is too violent...and Goku is too violent and too OP. Only way Goku could possibly get into Smash if he was in kid form from the early series.
@@IDyce88 Doom Guy just got a Mii Costume, and he's _way_ more violent and gory, with guns, than anything Master Chief's ever done. Sephiroth's final smash, Supernova, destroys the entire solar system, which is canonically far more OP than anything Goku has ever done. It's a moot point though, since Goku isn't a video game character originally. I was just using him as an example of a character that was popular, but had no chance of getting in, no matter how many votes they got.

Piranha Plant was the joke character (like Jigglypuff and Wii Fit Trainer before him), The four Heroes was for Dragon Quest fans. Terry was for the SNK fans. can't you see what Nintendo did...they used these characters to try and get fanbases to try and play Smash: Minecraft, Dragon Quest, Tekken, SNK, Rareware...it was a plot. sakurai doesn't even know that wolfenstein was the original FPS NOT DOOM...walk on sakurai.

The only reason I had to think it wouldn't/couldn't be Sora was the legal/logistics nightmare with licensing... and Disney, to get him in. ...Apparently, they knew that, so they spent 6 years to negotiate terms to make it happen anyways. ...Even the late Iwata helped get this to happen!

I haven't played Kingdom Hearts, but after seeing how happy and excited people are, I feel very encouraged to play all the games now. Watching reactions like yours makes me feel really glad that Smash had a beautiful and amazing ending :)

They did take Donald and Goofy off Sora’s station and Mickey off Riku’s from comparisons I’ve seen. Young Sora’s station had the other items they’ve been replaced with. It’s a shame they didn’t create a new station for Kairi, but understandable.

It was the fire of the Smash Logo that ignited the blade and gave the characters life. Once the flame dissipated, the soul and magic left the characters, reverting them back to the child's toys.

For me the first tell was how Mario’s platform disappeared into light particles resembling those I’ve seen somewhere in the KH series. In hindsight the first tell was the camera focusing on Zelda (a princess, like there are in KH). When Mario threw the fire weapon I had a strong feeling (about eight or so months prior to his reveal I had a strong feeling he was the last fighter) it was the Kingdom Key, and then when it stopped I saw it through the flames even before the camera showed the Mickey Mouse keychain.

Riku’s platform also had Mickey, however they used the platforms from the 15th anniversary which mainly focuses on Kingdom Hearts characters and the history of the series. My guess as to why they used the 15th anniversary platforms is to cut royalties I imagine.

31:14 Fun fact the blue stained glass for sora actually had Donald and Goofy while there is a green one that has the design shown in the video, but they couldn’t use Donald and Goofy for legal reasons and used the paopu fruit and raft instead.

They did take Donald and Goofy off Sora’s station and Mickey off Riku’s from comparisons I’ve seen. Young Sora’s station had the other items they’ve been replaced with.
It’s a shame they didn’t create a new station for Kairi, but understandable.
It's understandable though, a bit of legal BS and all. Mickey and co. are Disney's property, Sora and co. are more Square Enix's

It was the fire of the Smash Logo that ignited the blade and gave the characters life. Once the flame dissipated, the soul and magic left the characters, reverting them back to the child's toys.
I think this is the best reaction I've seen. I never played kingdom hearts growing up, but seeing how happy y'all are makes excited and wanting to try out the series when it comes to the switch!

It's these genuine reactions that I love about Smash. Congrats KH fans. Congrats on an amazing game Sakurai. Thank you for the last 3.5 years going through the Ultimate Smash bros.
For me the first tell was how Mario’s platform disappeared into light particles resembling those I’ve seen somewhere in the KH series. In hindsight the first tell was the camera focusing on Zelda (a princess, like there are in KH).
When Mario threw the fire weapon I had a strong feeling (about eight or so months prior to his reveal I had a strong feeling he was the last fighter) it was the Kingdom Key, and then when it stopped I saw it through the flames even before the camera showed the Mickey Mouse keychain.

31:14 Actually Sora’s original platform did have Donald and Goofy. Riku’s platform also had Mickey, however they used the platforms from the 15th anniversary which mainly focuses on Kingdom Hearts characters and the history of the series. My guess as to why they used the 15th anniversary platforms is to cut royalties I imagine.
