A great band! It was an amazing era for great American/European big bands.Oliver Nelson, Kenny Clarke & Francie Boland, Dizzy Gillespie,Benny Golson,Maynard Ferguson,Gerry Mulligan to mention but a few.
What a cooking band! Sure gives the lie to the suggestion that the Europeans could cut with American players! Oliver was such a brilliant light, wonderful composer and arranger, fine player, who died so young. But he damn sure did make his mark while he was with us!
Rick Hirsch The arrangement comes from Nelson's big band book circa 1967. They made a terrific live album that year called Live from Los Angeles. I like this treatment of Miles' tune. It's fierce and fiery.
I'm sorry. I meant to say Oliver Nelson was a musical genius. Oiver Jones is also a good musician/pianist from Montreal. I read where Jones took piano lessons from the sister of Oscar Peterson. Ken, Toronto
Excellent, great to see players from all over Europe and North America
WONDERFUL!!!Oliver Nelson was SO amazing!!! Thank you for sharing this video!
Another one of my favourite alltime favourite jazz pieces. Oliver Jones was a musical genius.

I hadn't heard this arrangement before. I love the mayhem of the final statement of the bridge (about 5:15...)!

❤️❤️❤️
this is great! I still think i like it better played in a quartet though. But this is tight.
it seems to work here, but I don't think jazz ever has room for more than one drum kit.
Don Ellis used 2 drum kits with congas at times. I love it. Oliver Nelson was truly a genius.
I dislike the tempo in this interpretation.
Jacob Gjelstrup Agree.
