It kind of shows a silver lining to the situation, if that makes sense. Like, it's very sad that all these things were destroyed, but there are things we can learn and experience that we wouldn't be able to if they weren't destroyed.

I can totally relate to that. After going through two massive earthquakes and the "fallout" (relatively weak but very mentally abrasive earthquakes every few minutes for days afterwards) in one year, I'm totally scarred for life. Can feel the tiniest of changes in air pressure, even if it's someone closing a door in the other side of the building. Still gets me alarmed every time.

It lends credence to rarity and magic of having many of these things from a bygone era, which is what makes this Chanel so special to begin with. You seem to be handling this with grace. Water-soaked paper can be saved if it's left out to dry in the exact position that it was in.
Afterwards, if it's stuck to something else (or the pages are stuck together), you can mildly spray it with some IPA, and gently pry it off with a long thin sharp box-cutter blade.
It requires patience, but it can absolutely be done, preserving almost 100% of the the printed text.
Alternatively, you can soak the already damp paper with lots of IPA, and that may make it un-stick nicely, and also wash away all the dirt, leaving it clean. Handle it very gently, then let it dry. But this might not be ok for catalogues with printed images... in which case it might be safer to just use clean water.
Also, 80%IPA+Water solution kills mold spores. So you can most definitely still keep most of the affected packaging.

I watched almost all of your video's and been subbed since 2016. And just like your last hurricane survivor vid, I recognize most of the stuff that's been damaged. I find it fascinating that stuff I never knew existed, seeing it again, now weathered and soggy, gives me nostalgia, because I remember the video from years ago. It might be painful to watch now, but you've created/recorded some good memories. This hurricane, and you showing all the damaged stuff, shifts this channel to a meta-nostalgic level where I reminisce over the time you made a video about keyboard wrist-rests, and made a follow-up video requested by viewers to compare a real baguette to the fake baguette wrist-rest, good times.
I"m not sure what I'm trying to say,

Your vintage Capsela were some of my favorite gifts in '84 & '85. I received the 500 set the first year and the 700 set the next. I could be wrong on the set numbers, but I know the second year it was the set right below the 1000. Great times!!

hey Clint! Since you're opening this stuff up anyway have you thought about maybe getting a bulk order of those little desecant packets (like the things you find in beef jerkey that collect moisture)? I feel like it wouldn't hurt throwing one or two in every box you seal back up just to dry out any extra moisture that might be left over and prevent any molding considering you might not be reopening a lot of these in awhile.

That exact capsela 1000 kit brings back so many memories, including that old school instruction book. Got so much playtime, to the extent that the little connector sleeves would crack and no longer hold the capsules together. I would try my best to glue the cracks, but that would never hold long. And then there was the constant drooling over the parts list, always needing one more of this or that type of capsule, or just wanting some replacement connector sleeves. Good times.
