    Absolutely love these seminars Capt. Mike...thank you so much for taking your time to present and offer them online. I hope to meet you guys at some point, possibly on a pulley ridge trip in the near future.
    On the topic of Slow pitch, I got absolutely obsessed a little before this video was posted. It has completely changed the way I approach fisheries I've targeted for years. On a recent trip to the gulf coast, We brought our slow pitch gear and several captains/mates approached us with apprehension on how lite the rods/reels were . On one trip, my wife promptly caught an 18lb red snapper on a daiwa sp jig. We made believers of that crew. LOL. Not only that, I've found that the diversity of species that respond is crazy. You honestly never know what's gonna hit those jigs.
    I think its worth noting that a great portion of the mechanics of true slow pitch are very personal and specific. It's almost like a dance. You will also notice that the guys from place like Singapore, and New Zealand have vastly different approaches to the Japanese originators. They all have merit and are worth learning.
    Setups:
    6'5" Majorcraft 100-150g slow pitch NP-Jack rod/Accurate bv-300/pe3 ocea
    6'8" Temple Reef Levitate slow pitch (zero) 60-200g rod/ Accurate bv-300/pe2.5 ocea
    6'5" Black hole cape cod special slow pitch 90-350g rod/ Accurate bv2-500n/ PP max quatro 60lb

    Crazy to see the amount of innovation and progress in jigging of any kind since this aired. PE line especially, now a days j braid 8 grand in 30lbs is the standard, and people are hauling up 40-50lbs grouper with it. Common to see folks using 15lbs in like 800ft and slaying. Wonder how the next 10 years will look

  • @patrickkelly8095
    @patrickkelly8095 3 роки тому

    If the hooks are on the bottom and you tie to the welded ring on the top of the jig, and you catch a fish o the bottom hooks. You are then pulling on the jig and not a welded ring. You are then back to the old style of hook on bottom and tied at top.

    Hey Capt. Mike, I am a dedicated fan of you and Carlos. You do the greatest job with all your videos and seminars. I feel like, you really want me to catch fish, and I truly love passing this same attitude to my friends and family, I love watching them getting "bent over" by a AJ or watching dolphin sky and there faces light up. I do have a question that I may have missed during your siminar. 1. How do you keep from the hooks our hook getting caught on the leader on the retrieve. About every other drop and retrieve I tend to get tangled up, "hook around leader" Thanks so much, Trey gulf shores ALabama.

    Captain Mike, Very educational video. Inshore and nearshore fishing in SW Florida a long time. However, Jigging is new to me. I am going on the Yankee Capt out of Key West for the 2 Day Marathon trip to the Dry Tortugas. Last weekend in November. I am building a Jig Rod. The blank is 7’10” 40lb. It is gonna have a LH Shimano Torium 20 Reel. 40lb braid. I am gonna spiral wrap the guides. Is that gonna be OK for that trip? I also have a 50lb 6’10” Conventional rod for bottom fishing. Additionally, I Have some 10oz, 8oz, 6oz, and 4oz Plain Silver Hammered Diamond Jigs and have found a couple of your “go-to” 100g Williamson Benthos Jigs for the trip. I know you have been on this boat, Any other suggestions?

      Florida Sport Fishing of course Capt. Mike. I am a big fan. These Seminars are so great. Jigging is a rabbit hole to get into. Another great techniquw within jigging is "ebbing". If you think slow pick gets a lot more bites wait until you hear about ebbing. The man who was a pioneer regrets showing it to people, because of the impact it had on species lol.

    • @GGGGGGG.
      @GGGGGGG. 7 років тому

      Dan Swansons either the fg or pr knot are amazing expecially for casting lures. One thing to keep in mind is a back up plan on retying a new leader if it fails, because tying either depending where you fish could be difficult..

  • @countryroadsusa

    Captain Mike, I recently bought some gold hammer diamond jigs without hooks or swivels . Can you please advise me as to what hooks and swivels to use on each end? They are 4oz jigs and ill be targeting grouper and snapper in the gulf. Thanks so much Captain Mike, I can't find any information anywhere on how to rig them!

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  7 років тому +1

      Its very easy, simply purchase some assist hooks from Williamson or Gamakatsu. Include a HD split ring on the bottom side of hammered diamond jig, this is where assist hook will be affixed. With 4 oz jigs, you don't need assist hooks on top and bottom. I'd go with the small, or 3/0 size. These hooks are super strong and will hold up! - Capt Mike

    It's my first time into vertical jigging. I order a Shimano Trevala spinning. Power: Heavy / Action : Moderate Fast. I'm gonna out fit with Bg5000 with 65Lb braided powerPro line with 80Lb Vanish Fluorocarbon top shop..... any views about my set up

      Scale down to 30 lb braid with 50 lb. flouro top shot. More line capacity. More sensitive. less scope. Capt Mike

    Would it be ok is I used 250 yards of mono and 150 of braid for my spin fisher 6500 for vertical jigging

    • @FloridaSportFishing

      I would go straight mono all of the way for extra line capacity with a 25 ft mono topshot. - Capt Mike

      Reel should be loaded with 30-50 lb Diamond Braid, with approx 25 ft. top shop of mono or fluorocarbon. Im now connecting Diamond Braid to mono/fluoro leader with FG Knot. No swivel, tie end of leader directly to split ring on jig with small loop knot. - Capt Mike

    Would A daiwa bg 5000 reel with 33lbs drag , 65lb braid310yds/and a Penn carnage jigging rodd be a good combo for jigging

    • @BKKgrind

      That reel is perfect. However I'd look into another rod if I were you. I'd reccomend a Phenix Megalodon PE4-8 at the minimum, or a Jigging Master Three Kings Special.

    Does anyone get nervous when he swings those jigs with sharp hooks really close to himself while talking?

    • @orbitprodutions
      @orbitprodutions 4 роки тому

      Nope, if you’ve bin fishing as long as he has you stop caring. Not to say you’ll be stupid with a hook and get your self with it but you just don’t really think about it

    I have a 4000 spinfisher 5 with 30 lb braid, only holds 200 yds tho and 17lb of drag. Is this too light?

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  7 років тому

      Yes, I would def. step it up a bit. You need more line capacity and drag. - Capt Mike

    hi Capt. what is the brand name of the rod?

  • @Cabezapy
    @Cabezapy 4 роки тому

    Probably a dumb question: WHY the leader is bigger (Lb. test) than our lines IE 40 Braid line to 60 Mono.... Is'nt suppose that the WEAKEST LINK LAW always work ? OR: our 40 Braid line suppose to break before 50 Mono as well as 60, 70, 80... ?

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 3 роки тому

      Braid is smaller and cuts mono in any knot easier. Better to use next size up mono. And with a Bimini twist on the braid side doubling braid size. If you use same size on both. That knot breaks easier every time. That is definitely the weakest link if you do it that way.

    Not too bad but I'll take the $120 Fin Nor Lethal LT 100 any day of the week. No need for a $800-1000 reel.

    • @bucac1213
      @bucac1213 5 років тому

      You need a more parabolic rod for the shimano flatfalls.

  • @WildBillTap
    @WildBillTap 2 роки тому

    You guys really don’t have to yank the rod like that when you are jigging. It wastes too much energy. Slow and steady up and down is all you need to catch fish. Trust me. Been doing it for years.
