    From a 69 year old Black woman, Kevin Amoyz’s program was not cultural appropriation. It was one of my favorite short programs this season. Tasteful and well choreographed. Kevin and Jason Brown have the best short programs. I have to admit I really love Nathan Chen, want him to be my grandson 😀😊

    I don’t think that there is a place for Sasha in Mishin’s camp. Liza made it very clear that she would not want to have a competitive environment in her skate ring. And Mishin is very loyal to Liza.

    • @nikavance9453

      But she's fine with Sonia, and was more than fine with Carolina few seasons back. That being said, neither of them could challenge Liza technically in any way, shape or form.

    • @nikavance9453
      @nikavance9453 3 роки тому +1

      @Nathaniel Walker Oh I'm well aware of it. Liza is not the mentally strongest skater and she loses points easily. But with Sonia, she could have told herself that she also was that consistent at Sonia's age, plus Sonia's consistency =/= BV itself, which Liza has stronger. And Caro was, well, Caro, and she was the best at being Caro. She had her own unique style and it was pretty much impossible for Liza to compare herself to her in any way, shape or form.
      But I also don't see Sasha going to Mishin. Though I do think that presence of older skaters ("older" lol) could've been good for her and her mindset.

    Maybe it’s just me but I didn’t think Anna looked that bad... She looked so much healthier than worlds and the 4F and the 4F+3T in the 6 minutes warm up was impressive. To me she’s not on a massive decline, she just had a terrible worlds.

    • @sfs6501
      @sfs6501 3 роки тому +29

      Agree. I agree that she improved at WTT than at worlds. Her spins were better, lutz edges were on mission of improvement, and the 3Lz3Lo were also getting stronger. The quads in warm up were amazing too. Shes not in decline, pretty sure she has put a mindset that quads arent that necessary at worlds and WTT (knowing that the quad contender Sasha messed up the SP). So she just did not focus on quads so much on both competitions. Daniil said it too that they prepared Anna to skate clean than to land quads, its not necessary in this competition. Anna can skip a quad and still win international events.

    Like you said, the fact that Jason stood up a quad again in a second competition actually was more important to me as a Jason fan that I didn't care that the rest of the programme fell apart.
    However, I think Jason needs to (and I'm 110% convinced he is) go back to Schindler's List for next season - I have enjoyed Slaughter, but I have never felt that he's been truly comfortable with it. He's been making mistakes in the FS all season including on spins because the fast tempo gets away from him at times, and he is putting so much energy into the performance and character. We all know that the thing for Jason is going to be getting that quad, and he has done SL so well in the past that I think it'll be easier to add in the quad now that it's more consistent. Plus, Sinnerman is so fast and uptempo that now SL becomes a great counterpoint and shows off different sides of his performance.
    I also have to say, his exhibition programme may be the most exquisite thing I've ever seen. It even made Simon stfu because it was so mesmerising.

      @@kristenjunker1632 Yeah I would! Jason has said he's keeping Sinnerman for his SP next season, so that's decided, and that he's bringing back a former FS. I can't see him going back to anything pre-TCC, the only one I would consider would be his Scent of Love programme, but he already used that for two seasons. The Simon and Garfunkel FS was an absolute miss for me and Jason himself didn't really connect with it, so I can't envision it being anything other than Schindler's List. I also think together it's a very complete set of programmes!
      I'm praying he gets to the team event too, I think his Sinnerman SP deserves to be awarded with a medal, and cmon, I can SEE the NBC fluff pieces already around it!

    Jonathan, Anna still attempted a quad flip and performed three different 3-3 combos, two of those in the latter half, so her lead over Kaori is well deserved there. However, Kaori got an edge ! call on her lutz and a q on her salchow, so she could’ve conceivably scored several points higher.
    I thought it was interesting how Kaori was scored in PCS 5 points higher here over than at the worlds. I think it’s mostly deserved, but it’s interesting how politics work particularly favorably at home rather than overseas.

      You mean quad flip. But Anna should have received an “!” for all of her flips and lutzes because they all take off of a flat edge. Plus, Anna and Kaori both got 9.30 for skating skills. In no world are Anna’s skating skills as good as Kaori’s. Kaori skates with much more speed and power, deeper edges and doesn’t drag her foot on her crossovers like Anna does. I can understand giving Anna higher scores for interpretation and performance, but not the other components.

I haven’t looked at her edge takeoffs more closely, so I will inspect next time, but the Eteri bamboozling prevents that from ever being judged correctly. Regarding Canada and the team event, for me it's been a given that Canada is probably going to go with its strongest possible entry in both segments for each discipline. Nobody other than Piper & Paul are really strong individual medal contenders, so there's no reason for anybody to be trying to save themselves for the individual event; and the Canadian fed already employed the all-in approach in Pyeongchang (if Kaetlyn hadn't been such a hot mess in the free skate all season prior to the Olympics, she would probably have done both parts of the ladies' event too). The exception would only be if you had two competitors of approximately equal standing.

    Of course it depends on next season, but imo the US should have H/D do the rhythm dance and have C/B do the free for the team event. H/D have consistently been on top in the rhythm dance, but have lost the free to G/P in almost every event since 2019 Four Continents. At least C/B only lost the free to G/P once, and they had mistakes. Of course, then the US would have to choose only one man or one lady, which I'm not sure they would want to do. With either couple the result will most likely be the same overall, but they're so close and both deserve a team medal imo. Both teams are really going have to step up their game and be virtually perfect at every competition next season. Having a world medal definitely helps H/D's case, but I think the US will pick one team, and that'll be whichever team wins nationals.

Shoma had to skate on new skates. They broke few days before the competition, he clearly didn't have the time to break them in. What else could he have done in his situation? He did everything he could till the end. Ask everyone to skate on new skates and let's see how "consistent" they can be. For this competition he even wanted to challenge himself, that's why he had such a complex content planned. I really wonder if he were another skater people would care about doing some research. Great recaps this season! Alexa and Brandon’s free skate was beautiful and got a great score. They deserved even more points on their throw loop, it was the best element in the event. They need more time together, but their throw flip in warmup was amazing. With all their athleticism and promise, the sky is the limit. I know you said you’re not into Mishina and Galliamov’s short, but it’s been so well received. The Japanese pair may have gotten a little home boost in scoring, but they’re a great team. I’m surprised by the Eric and Vanessa rumblings. I recall around 2017 that it seemed like Meagan was the one convincing him to still skate.

Although I’m pretty sure that Russia would do a lot to guarantee their skaters an ice dance gold on top of ladies and pairs gold, I don’t think that ISU would want a one country sweep like this, it’s not interesting enough for the public and all. Also, P/C are considered to be the geniuses of ice dance, + someone who has been there for a long time on a super high level. I think the judges would let them have the priority to win, especially with their sad loss at the last Olympics. It’s like, they’ve already “earned” their gold, if S/K stay after the next season, they will surely earn theirs at the next Olympics. Right now I think the ISU is trying to make competitions more exciting and tight by getting S/K so close to the French or otherwise no one would watch either except for their fans 😅
