Eteri NEEDS Alena to prove she can have skaters who succeed past 17 yo. I never realised that she's only a year younger than Alina. She's the best thing to happen since 2010 era, so I hope she makes it to the OG. Bless all the Russian ladies, though, feel super depressed for them knowing that only 3 will make it!
The most hilarious thing is that y’all think Eteri cares about what you think. I doubt she cares about proving stuff to people who hate her (and will continue to do so) anyway.
@@andreagoldstein4070 I don't see her being in contention, agreed. I think my point has been taken a bit literally in the comments. Eteri hasn't had many/ any skaters who had longevity in the way we are used to seeing (e.g. none of her skaters have done 2 OGs). I think Alena could have a long-term career, she doesn't suffer from the same back technique technique others have. Eteri is great for building consistency/ a rigid training environment, so hopefully that will help Alena get that perfect combo of talent and hard work!
@@fsmilka8021 yeah it would be nice if she could qualify for the OG next year, but unlikely. My point is more about longevity than just age, appreciate I wasn't clear!
Seriously tho, Evgenia and Aljiona look better each day, they have much more stamina and power on the ice (especially Aljiona, she is a powerful skater). I don't hate the "Lovely"-programm, Aljiona really puts in her emotions and sells it. And I didn't believe Evgenia would get her 3-3 back but here we are.
@@yohanes2034 Of course she could sell Twilight, it was her favourite. Last season, she said Twilight was the program she liked the most (so more than Adios Nonino, Stella's Theme, Angel). She also said many times she prefers pop, upbeat music vs. lyrical/classical.
@@Helen-me1vn liking it with actually performing it is different thing IMO. Plus I'm talking more on the music cuts and choreo. While I'm dissappointed on her music taste (lol she's a teenager after all), I think at least she managed to capture the essence of the twilight program. Though I do think that program did not necessarily hard to portray.
Like Todd said, Nathan’s primary focus should just be staying healthy. I could see him doing a “watered-down” 3 quad free at WTT, even if Yuzu keeps his layout from worlds and beats Nathan based on higher tech. I doubt Nathan would care lol, especially because it’s not going to affect the final team standings
@@Julia-js7bs I went back and compared it to the same spin position in her junior season programs and her programs last year and her flexibility has gotten so much better it’s insane
It’s better, but it still needs work. She shouldn’t be pulling down on the foot above her head, and both she and Anna don’t have their spinning leg perfectly straight when they do it. Daria does it much better. I don’t think the I-spin is aesthetically pleasing unless it’s done like Sasha Cohen or Daria.
@@evanperilstein5308 that’s interesting that you think that because I actually dislike daria’s I-spin. Her hips look so uneven if that makes sense that I don’t find it aesthetically appealing
I do think that this is due to her own accord, we saw her flexibility get better when she moved to Plushenko as well. But as she had more pressing consistency issues, I feel like she abandoned the flexibility work to focus more on other aspects. And during this trial process, she seems to want to improve everything she can, which is great to see!
The absurdity of Oksana Baiul accusing Zagitova of plagiarizing a costume she once wore was just a double face palm. Like, does that mean Oksana plagiarized ballet dancers playing Odette and Odile by wearing a replica of the headpiece and dresses at the 94 Olympics, or that she was plagiarizing ballet dancers Kitri red tutu, with her costume (which btw, isn’t an aesthetically pleasing as Alina’s) and what about her face ask program...was she plagiarizing Jasmine’s costume or culturally appropriating Persian belly dancers??? Like, honestly woman, the list of people in figure skating who haven’t supposedly wronged her or plagiarized her or stole from her is shorter than the list of those she’s sued or accused of wronging her....I mean, is she drinking again?!
As I never received a response from Dave, I am putting my comment here. Dave is saying that Eteri steals other coaches’s students and other coaches in Russia do not have a chance and even if she grows her own (Medvedeva, Scherbakova), she only grows a few. So I asked him to comment on other elite coaches. Does he think that Orser stole Yuna and Hanyu as he did mot grow them? Does he think that Raf stole Marin Honda and Yonsoo Lim? No response was received. And Dave and Jonathan are saying on everything episode they are not biased.
Tursynbaeva is no Perlman, but I think these skaters should be commended for having hobbies outside of skating. I don't think she claimed to be a prodigy or anything XD It was a cute moment, she gets a pass!
Her ISU bio states "Tursynbaeva is a professional violinist", which she very clearly is not: I remember seeing another clip a few years ago where she played the violin (not on ice), and her level was not close to being on the right path towards becoming a professional violinist. Having said that, the majority of violinists couldn't even stand up on a pair of skates, let alone dream of doing what she can do! It is a fun moment in the show, and I agree that it's nice to see the skaters enjoying activities outside of skating (and considering what a determined person she is, I'm sure her violin playing would be a lot better if she'd had more time to focus on it)
@@rachelsweet7439 ok was not aware of that! But agreed, no need to take it too seriously! I also speak 17 languages according to my bio, but can actually barely keep Greek and English alive at this point 🤣🤣🤣
@@rachelsweet7439 Just to inform you, in Russia and former ussr countries there are so called musical schools which are attended by school children if they opt to, given they are able to pass certain entrance exams. So they go there for about 5-6 years 3-4 times a week along with going to their normal schools, and each year they take exams, and at the end of five years they also undergo certain graduation procedures and get a diploma. So that's what Elizabet did during her school years, she went to one of those musical schools where she learnt to play violin and piano.... those comments of Jonathan were so immature... to me it was absolutely impressive to see....a person doing professional sports, setting records in that sport, and doing music and speak so many languages, and being able to get to the "Harvard" of Russia... the least that can be said that she is inspiring, she clearly did not deserve that derogatory, self assured mumbling...
And yeah i forgot to mention that very few kids get to graduate from those musical school. Most quit them after a couple of years just because it is difficult .. the ones that stay to the very end usually follow musical careers...
@@KateKabrinsky Personally, I think that Alina as his muse is much closer to him than others, except perhaps Anna, but there is a different communication. Nothing romantic.

I loved that moment too. Daniil and alina have been always good friends, and he helped her a lot. It was a nice gesture of her to bring him on "stage" and honor him that way to show her appreciation
My new rule for anyone skating to Swan Lake is that you've gotta do the fouettés. Ladies, Men, Pairs, Ice Dance, don't care who you are, the price of using Swan Lake music is that you have to do the fouettés. No exceptions.
Yes! Do it well or dont do it at all! I certainly miss the balletic music programs back then, cant deal with all these lyrics, feels like my spotify rolling
@@nycgtl88 there's nothing wrong with lyrics. Baffles me people blame all of the bad programs on lyrics. There are great classical pieces with lyrics people have yet to use.
I really hope Mark Henretty is the commentator for the WTT !! I’m also anxious to see how Gabby and Roman will perform ! As always, I will enjoy watching Nathan Chen and Jason Brown and I hope they have a Worlds repeat 👍
RN my bet for that OGM is by far Valieva, she is looking so consistent and great BUT my 2nd bet is Kostornaia and maybe, this year away from Eteri is gonna be the difference between she and Anna, Aliona lose her shape but was resting that season, now she return to Eteri without that year and push for the olympics, if that happen what a lucky move from Aliona btw i read that rumors about T/M with Eteri, id think thats gonna happen but if happen will be very interesting
Yes it's true, she didn't get the rough season and if anything looks more inspired and "fighter" while Anna kinda seems a bit tired and burned out soooooo~
@@kthy31 Anna was probably burnt out at worlds - but which of the ladies weren't? But at the show, she looks in shape and really passionate about selling her performance, back to her usual self. I think her mental strength and level head will get her far.
Personally, I don't care how Karen performs between now and the Olympics; she's a queen, and one of those three spots should be for her either way. She's the only reason there are 3 spots to begin with. Let Bradie, Amber, Mariah, and Alysa battle over the remaining two.
Y’all noticed how Aliona always squeeze herself in next to Eteri’s side at the shows during the group pics haha. In Moscow she pushed herself in next to Zagitova and she seemed to be pissed about it hahaha 😂 bring out the popcorn
@@aishahosman2465 No haha Alina was pissed because Aliona was infront of her and Alina push Aliona back with her arm, then Aliona was pissed and the argue begin with smiles and killing eyes and Dudakov was behind listening everything haha
I though Aliona looked amazing, much improved. Honestly if she can get her 3A back she's set for the Olympic team over Sasha. She's also featured so often in the show there's no way she's not safe with Eteri.
I’m pretty sure Anna Shcherbakova is meant to be playing Katniss Everdeen from the hunger games. That’s why she does a lunge and a bow and arrow action. I’m guessing the teddy bear is the loss of innocence and the change from child to murderer.
@@etherealtb6021 It is. It's from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack (and Everybody Wants to Rule the World is not the only single Lorde did (as in covered it) for the films)
Thank you for calling out the Ryabenko dresses, they all look the same but in different colours.. She used to make more diverse dresses for the skaters but now they literally all look identical. It’s getting old so fast
Actually some of the dresses are pretty good I mean they fit the music and the program perfectly. Like Anna's blue dress for her current short program or Evgenia's dress for her gala program to a Russian ballad "Echo of love" or Darya's dress for her current free program or Alyona's dresses for her both "Angel" and "Vampire" programs. But these are more like exceptions. Dani told in one of his interviews that he himself and Eteri do communicate with their dressmaker and see the sketches before the final version. So part of the blame goes to Dani and Eteri.
Daria shouldn't be overlooked. She is a competitor now with Kosternaia. I equate the success of Russian coaching to a bootstrapper mentality which is rooted in their history and lives on in their collective unconsciousness. Jonathan- Like the cobalt and tangerine vase!
I admit, Kostornaia is making a comeback. Valieva may be primed to be Russia's new it girl and OGM winner, but this may be contested once Kostornaia gets back to her 2019-2020 form. Too bad only 3 skaters per nation can compete. One of these girls may not be a lock for 2022 Beijing and Worlds. To think that World Team Trophy is coming so soon...! Why are only 2 skaters from each discipline allowed to compete at this event? Shouldn't they up the number of spots? Yuma won his first World medal and beat Shoma; what is JSF thinking? Nathan doesn't really need to prove himself here; maybe Shoma does? Yuzuru may have won bronze at Worlds 2021, but I don't know if he should go for that 4A just yet. For ladies, it may be Russia 1-2 with Scherbakova and Empress Tuktik and Rika Kihira in 3rd. Sad to hear that China can't make it and that Papadkis/Cizeron won't be here, it could be another Russian sweep for pairs and ice-dance. Thanks for another video guys!
The Alena Kostornaia / Sergei situation should be read for what it is. A young vulnerable girl, under 18, being groomed and taken advantage of by a grown man. He was in a position of power and this should be treated with the same disgust as a school girl ‘dating’ her teacher. not only is it highly unprofessional it has caused her much bad publicity / press and likely embarrassment during the fallout. He is wholly responsible for the whole situation. At that age I can’t even imagine working as hard as these young women do in such a pressure cooker environment, with the world watching plus dating someone also in the public eye. Add to that a person supposedly being a’ responsible adult’ (in the guardian ship sense of the word) and essentially in her workplace
There are instagram accounts on them where the body language is so screamingly obvious. There were photos of them shopping together or when he was taking photos on multiple occasions. Fans got the photos taken down because they said a fan/stalker took the photos, but they did exist and were certainly questionable. Also, remember that Sergei denied a claim when Yuzu Uzu claimed he would return to Sambo and that has certainly not happened here.
Saw somewhere that the public shopping thing was just a Karisma event she attended. Body languages??? Delusional old men might see it that way. Also this two grown men did joke about Trusova and her coach once. The coach actually has a long term girlfriend and if you love analyzing Instagram so much you should’ve known from his Instagram. Dirty minds would conjure up such misogynistic nonsense.
Apparently Tarasova and Morosov are very inspired by the titanic because that was the most I’ve ever seen them emote. Either I was seeing things or she had tears in her eyes at the end. At the beginning of Kamila’s exogenesis, all I could think of was Jonathan saying Danny G can fit 300 flailing arm movements into 30 seconds. Thanks for all the great content! (That goes to you guys AND the Russians!)
The T&M program popped up in my feed so I just saw it. First, her costume is a nice interpretation of one Rose's dresses and I give them points for no voiceovers and minimal Celine Dion. But DG literally took Radionova's ending pose from her program. She did look emotional at the end, though. If they like it maybe the should keep it for next season.
Anna's exhibition is Hunger Games!! The song is Lorde's cover of Everybody Wants to Rule the World from Catching Fire (second Hunger Games). The teddy bear I think is the symbol of loss of innocence, children fighting in the arena, etc.
Not too worried about warhorses. Next year is the Olympics and there's always a couple Carmens, most likely a Swan Lake, and possibly a Phantom of the Opera (I know that's not classical but it's definitely a classic figure skating piece imo)
Her violin was out of tune because it's freezing in an ice rink. I'm sure every time they retuned it, it went right back out of tune again. Trying to keep a violin perfectly tuned in a really cold environment is virtually impossible.
@@etherealtb6021 Wouldn't you have people criticizing it for "lip-syncing" or "violin-syncing" then? XD It didn't bother me it was out of tune. She wasn't trying to show us she was a world-class violinist. She was just trying to do something fun and different in a show, and I enjoyed seeing she amazingly had some spare time for other hobbies outside of skating.
@@GoddessArwen17 I actually haven't seen it yet. Just saying, would rather hear her play her best, as some have said violins just don't work in the cold.
she can outskate all of us any day, so we would rather pick on something some of us can do better than her 🎻. That's just human nature at its worst, admittedly. Intonation is one thing (a skilled player with perfect or relative pitch would be fine), but shortfall in her technique (not using vibrato on quarter notes and 8th notes where practical) made me cringe. I do give her credit for having a hobby outside of skating.
I am supper happy to see them The Skating Lesson. Supper happy to see Evgenia jumping a combo. What is skating music will skaters will skate too next season. Do you think about will Medeveda will keep her skates form this season? What kind of mixed music will skaters will due? What complex skills will be in SP and FP for next season? I will be watching Ice dance next season? What kind of Hip Hop routine will ice dancers will do or type of music will they use?
@MySassyGirl Ok goo to know. When I read the RT articles they are translated from Russian to English and Spanish. I think that words got lost in translation
Benoit knows you guys lol! One day at the rink I fell on like the most horrible double Axel ever, and Benoit told me to post it so you guys could comment on how horrible it was 🤣🤣🤣
Guys, get educated before hating! Anna’s exhibition program is based on hunger games movie, the costume, the details, the bear, read the plot, get the idea and then criticize 🙄
Speaking to the shift to a simpler instrumentation in skating music - I've never really developed an ear for that symphonic classical sound (seriously I have no idea what Mahler is doing, ever). But this solo-driven music seems so appropriate for skating because, well, skating is a solo sport that more or less celebrates individual excellence.
me too. I would love to have a violin virtuoso accompany some single skaters who feel fit for it. Kamila also indicated she'd like that( a few weeks ago)
I felt so sad for alexa and brandon's fail at worlds, I know they weren't talked about all that much, but they're one of my faves and I've even wanted them to make the podium. Alexa's post on ig really hit me
I think Kostornaia’s Crown program seems authentically her and I like the bracket too but for me, much of the choreography itself feels too cliche and obvious to me and the sass fits her but imo I wish it were more creatively expressed.
Tbh with her quick improvements and great performances right now, I doubt they will just throw her out to the streets after 3 months even without the 3A. She is an exceptional skater
I think if she keeps up her training regimen, she has a good chance of staying in Hrustalny. The fact that Kostornaya took Maya’s place in the show, also seems to suggest that Eteri is giving her a second chance. Eteri may be hard on the skating rink, but she cools off and softens when she really sees the athlete is ready to train their best: Alina was given a second chance when she came with flowers to say good bye. Kostornaya is a fighter, little bit hectic, not thinking through her actions or words, but deep inside, she is one of the few girls of Eteri who is extremely competitive, second only to Valieva.
@@dariakukhar1595 Super agree¡¡ that 3A in 2 months was not real and i since the beginning i said "Eteri wanna see Aliona training hard and thats it", and really rn my bet are Kamila and Aliona for that Oteam, not Anna
She's fine. She's heavily featured at the show. If she were really on some sort of probation she'd be at the rink slaving away working. She also gets bonus points for doing her old SP Eteri choreographed.
It's funny how you guys commented on how things sound on the arena vs on TV and then trashed Tursynbaeva's performance as it sounded much, much better on the fancams than on the channel 1 feed.
The reason why people were uncomfortable when you talk about rozanov and kosto is because the one who would lose more in this relationship is aliona. She would be the one who got judged by others rather than rozanov who pried on young girls. The women would usually been the one who got their reputation ruined. I mean look at what the media said about taylor swift and she came from "free world country. This is also the reason why Yuna Kim fans were uncomfortable when Adam Rippon publicized their relathionship for clout, without any consideration whether those statement would in anyway hurt Yuna kim reputation or legacy in Korea. I m pretty sure he didn't ask permission to name drop Yuna. Which is really A DICK move and assured me more that Adam is just like any other priviledge white man who like to pretend and act like a victim. i wish you guys would check your priviledge as well before spurting out gossip. How can you say that Tutberidze will never have her own champions and 10 min later say that she doesn't seem to have enough enthusiasm with Anna after seeing her 10 seasons. She has been with Medvedeva for 11 years before Orser.
She rarely grows new skaters. If you look at the histories of many of her current skaters, Kostornaia, Trusova, Kanysheva, Usacheva were plucked from other rinks. You also misheard me. I agree. I'm not sure but I don't think she has the funding of the other ladies, and her dad used to work so many overtime hours to keep her skating. Maybe the $$ could've helped with some Ladu or Lisa Mckinnon costumes.
As for the violin playing, the violin was in tune, Typсынбаева was just playing out of tune. She started off slightly off and if your hand isn’t in the correct spot on the string you intervals aren’t going to be correct. Hence being out of tune. These are basics violinist practice daily. Thought it was interesting hearing Lindsey Sterling piece over in Russia.
I don't think she was out of tune, the notes weren't sharp or flat, it's more that the sound wasn't good. Maybe that's the tone? I will say, I was very impressed, though, because I can't play for anybody without getting so nervous my hand shakes.
@@L.Spencer as a performer and teacher it was her. With a violin if you are slightly out of position, are unsure and your finger is to high on the finger board, or too low you will get an odd sound. They are Just Intonation, Equal Temperament and Pure Intervals. You can be close to the note and out of tune.
@@planningwithjohn i agree - she was playing out of tune. It was begging for some vibrato as well. I never knew the different types of tuning - thanks for bringing that up. I always just tune to my frequently tuned piano if we are playing a duet. Tune to my internal A if playing by myself.
What do you think of the Olympic team competition mandating that there are two competitors for each discipline . No skater or team having two skate both the short and long ? To me that is the best way to determine the best team in the sport .

Can anyone explain to me why is Valieva constantly changing dresses for the same program? I’ve seen her perform Bolero at least in 3 different costumes, she was having a new dress for Exogenesis at the end of 2020, now for the first of the Tutberidze shows she was having another new dress for Exogenesis with short purple sleeves and a golden application in the front, a day later the sleeves and the application were gone and now her dress is just purple with tiny straps. Apparently, it is not connected with growing issues as she is changing the dress for the same preformance almost on daily basis. So I wonder if she is sooo picky or there is another reason?

@@rsb512 I think the point is the styling, music and choreo is all very similar. You can’t imagine an Eteri girl doing a Matrix programme, Beyoncé, a hip hip chin chin 🤣 or even a moulin rouge (thank god though) ! Comments aren’t against the girls, it is the very generic branding they are given and lack of individuality they are allowed to express or develop.

Excellent and varied commentary this week, Dave and Jonathan! I know I keep saying the same thing, but your unique and informative take on all things in the world of figure skating is really providing some much needed relief from some dark times in my life. While I love both gymnastics and figure skating, I participated in gymnastics and followed it a little more closely over the years, but you two really have me hooked on the whole figure skating scene. Thank you so much for your tireless work (this has to take a lot of time to produce and edit) and any news you have about Alena Kostornaya is always appreciated. (I have a soft spot for her and she has something special that can't be learned) Her orange and black skating dress in the Eteri show was my favorite. Have a lovely week~
Did anyone else listen to Debi Thomas on Polina Edmund's podcast? I couldn't tell if she was in a better frame of mind or not. It was interesting to hear that she wasn't excited or motivated at the Olympics.
Michigan is currently a disaster. Not sure what went wrong there. They have a good governor, but my dad is from Michigan and he says the state has a lot of weird anti-government people.

I understand people that don't want to get vaccinated that's their choice but they should wear a mask out in public and not put anyone else at risk. It's a tough time to own your own business and to depend on the public for your livelihood.
speaking of animals, what is with this trend where so many of them now have an animal as a kleenex box holder?? are they just all of the sudden copying yuzuru?? and speaking of necklaces, does anyone else find it weird that so many skaters wear them? i do not understand how it does not distract or annoy them when they are spinning and you can see the chain wildly whipping around.
I’m not sure why so many of them are bringing them to the boards and comps and shows, but in practice, it’s been common since at least the 90s. We just weren’t allowed to bring them anywhere but to practice and even then the coaches would roll their eyes.
I think most of them are superstition, like one time they brought their favorite tissue box (with cute animal or stuffs) and the training went well or they won. Regarding the necklace, I dunno. I agree it looks like a distracting thing rather than complementing the costume/assemble.
Regarding the necklaces, it seems a lot of the Russian Orthodox skaters wear their crosses, but yes, even as someone who's also Orthodox, I have no idea how they can skate in them haha
Bassoonists are probably like pairs men who can do triple jumps - demand for the good ones b/c there aren't too many, and the orchestra can't get by w/o them. Kudos to you for not just settling and pursuing flute/clarinet/trumpet!
@@kristenjunker1632 thanks! I also play flute and clarinet as well. I started on clarinet. I started on piano when I was young and I was bad at it. Tried viola, did not work out.
speaking of technique. I would hate to see the ladies podium filled with children doing their pre-rotated jumps that they call "quads". Anna does two rotations without her toe pick even leaving the ice yet. It's an insult to the more mature skaters who bring elegance and longevity to the sport.
And she gets a 4,86 and nationals and the highest GOE at worlds for those flutzes, meanwhile Liza and her textbook technique gets a 1,7...I agree with you, it’s and insult to the sport in general.
The rules about full blade were released but then retracted. Maybe because the changes included BV adjustment and that never happened in the middle of Olympic cycle. I certainly hope that something about prerotation is made clear in the new guidelines because there are so many pseudo quads that should not be getting the same GOE both in men and ladies FS.
@@feyanormorfol2457 people don't skate clean because they fall by attempting the proper techniques. If your lutz is actually a flutz that's a much easier jump to execute. Among other errors of the eteri girls. And to think they broke records using those methods.
@@yohanes2034 why should ISU take into account all than whining of sore losers? After all, your unterstanding of "good technics" of your favotite skaters... means nothing for the rest of the world. Real judges laugh at that fake "analyzing" videos from UA-cam. After all, other skaters are allowed to try quads themselves. I doubt even prerotation will help them.
I mean I figure that Eteri purposely packages her girls to seem older because she would like the skating world to not talk about the Eteri expiration date and instead of doing a more sustainable training regiment and technique, she's just going to try to make you forget all her girls are under 16

@extra fs cool!
She has Medvedeva
Tursynbaeva is also over 18. She looked good here but I can't see her doing the quad sal again.
Yes they both have improved so much even in the few days even between the shows
If she can sell the twilight program you bet she can sell this lovely program.
Evgenia legit got 3S3F #1 trending on twitter after jumping the combo for the first time in the show again....boy, that's something lol
Impressive indeed!
Aliona is now doing the Anna scherbakova style I-spin, it’s crazy, last season she could barely hold her leg up
I just saw the video of the "50 shades of grey"-gala and wow, that leg could not have been straighter up. Impressive!
There is Russian saying “You need to eat after drinking” and this is exactly about Oksana Baiul.

The difference is Eteri girls retire at 15-16-17-18 and Brian/Raf keep their students in figure skating until 25-30 while having Ultra C elements

Well, there's always Candyman to fall back on if they need to abandon ship.
People would probably do so if there was any actual proof for this
There are instagram accounts on them where the body language is so screamingly obvious.
Is this appropriate body language to you: instagram.com/kostornaiarozanov/
Also, the relationship wasn't hidden from anyone in skating. It was known when Kostornaia left Sambo 70 and Tutberidze warned her about it.
At the beginning of Kamila’s exogenesis, all I could think of was Jonathan saying Danny G can fit 300 flailing arm movements into 30 seconds.

And Dani G's choreography isn't a walking cliche??? Shae did not work for her.
“Vicky and Nicky” sends me every time 😭
Strangely they seem more endearing to me as Vicky and Nicky! I am worried for Gabby and Billy!
honestly how aliona looks. i wish she had 4 months instead of 3. I think if she had that extra month she would be able to get the 3A back.
You guys are always making my day!!!
It's funny how you guys commented on how things sound on the arena vs on TV and then trashed Tursynbaeva's performance as it sounded much, much better on the fancams than on the channel 1 feed.
Interesting. It was NOT good on the feed!
I think 'trashed' is really extreme. I think her skating looked good.
I could see Nathan going full out because he didn't have the competitions this year. A chance to compete again might be welcomed.
It will be exciting to watch!
You two are the highlight of the week for me love u both x
Yay! Thank you!
If Eteri can whoop tarasova/Morozov into shape,I am here for it! Oh to be a fly on the wall in that rink 😂

You might be from the LGBTQ+ community, but you guys are still MEN who came from 1st world country full with Liberal ideology, while these girls are not. They are also officially athletes who represent their country name and reputation. They should not be treated like hollywood stars who would be happy to get any attention even if it is a negative one. Not everything should be publicized. There should be a line being drawn here. Besides, You guys are not a tabloid, i would assume you dont want to be treated as such as well.
This comment sounds so American and in no way applies to a situation in Russia.
Isnt Adam Rippon Gay ?
They are indeed not a tabloid. They are worse than that.
@@tranquilitytranquility1407 Umm what? May be consider don't speak if you don't how this situation viewed in Russian media? How can you say that Tutberidze will never have her own champions and 10 min later say that she doesn't seem to have enough enthusiasm with Anna after seeing her 10 seasons. She has been with Medvedeva for 11 years before Orser.
She rarely grows new skaters. If you look at the histories of many of her current skaters, Kostornaia, Trusova, Kanysheva, Usacheva were plucked from other rinks. You also misheard me. I did NOT say that Eteri will never have her own champions. I said that these other coaches will not be able to compete with Team Tutberidze and that their skaters will wind up switching to Sambo 70.
@@TheSkatingLesson what about your beloved Orser? Did he grow Hanyu and Yuna? Double standard hypocrisy as always from TSL. All the elite coaches in the world are allowed to tale other coaches’ students and this is considered to be a natural progression but when it comes to Eteri, she “steals”.
@@dinchik19 That is incredible. Since when is Orser beloved on this channel? We are pretty even about him and find his skaters a tad sloppy. Perhaps do your research before putting words in our mouths.
@@TheSkatingLesson I am assuming that Orser is beloved by you after Medvedeva moved to Orser, you were rooting for this change and never said Orser stole Medvedeva and you wanted Kostornaia to go there as well. Orser was just an example, I am talking about all elite coaches. When Marin Honda and Yinsoo Lim moved to Rafael, did you say he stole them? Do all elite coaches steal students or is it just Eteri?
@@TheSkatingLesson changed the subject? What about my question about all other elite coaches? Why do they not grow their own skaters? Why are you not saying they are stealing other coaches’ students?
if you are not a quality skater don't pick a classical piece.
Right? Which is why I never skated to Swan Lake, even though I'd give my left swan arm to be graceful enough!
did you mention Miyahara's Tosca? That is the biggest music i've ever seen skated by such a teeny tiny woman :) She absolutely slays it (when she is landing jumps)
Nice to see evgenia back with her former coach😀
17:00 alina has korilakkuma, sasha t has the dog from yuri on ice, evgenia has luna, and anna s has the bear. i think the bear is the LINE app bear? i’m not sure. we need to get kosto a mascot.
Do we seriously believe Zhenya is coming back at this point? That seemed like sort of a farewell skate which is why they probably chose Anna Karenina. Kind of like how Alina skated Don Quixote at champions on ice in 2019.
Good god I forgot it was sunday until this notification popped up!
I think eteri represented ALL of us watching that shambolic ladies event. I feel ya, noodle haired queen
I love Benoit! The Matrix is my all time favourite program. If I lived in the States I would’ve definitely showed up and gave him all my money 😂
I am excited for his seminar!
WTT will be on Peacock!!!!!☺️
Thank you!
I would have had Amber do WTT so she can get some $$ for real choreo
I agree. I'm not sure but I don't think she has the funding of the other ladies, and her dad used to work so many overtime hours to keep her skating. Maybe the $$ could've helped with some Ladu or Lisa Mckinnon costumes.
The idea of an artistic program with a straight jacket program just has that Dance Moms call back that's so right
As for the violin playing, the violin was in tune, Typсынбаева was just playing out of tune.
Yea you are playing close to the pitch it you are not in tune. When tuning on a violin there are three tuning systems you use depending on if the notes are melodic or function solely as a chord.
Don’t hate me for asking but where can we see the Eteri show? Don’t see it on UA-cam or Channel One.
or you can search: Ледовое шоу Этери Тутберидзе «Чемпионы на льду» в Москве
There is a team tutberidze channel that posted it
You're both right on about the trends in skating music...No one was ever skating to Bruckner for example, it's just too big and too grand.
Something that I would love to see someone skate to is Rosie Thomas’s song Much Farther to Go. Beautiful guitar and voice piece.
What do you think of the Olympic team competition mandating that there are two competitors for each discipline . No skater or team having two skate both the short and long ? To me that is the best way to determine the best team in the sport .
9:23 I too love Hugo's work. But there are many producers out there in this amazing world. We've all struggled this year with many skaters re-using last season's music.
15:20 Russian costumes ..... the pant line is always waaaaaaaaaaaay too small (actually, the Italians are also somewhat guilty of this). Atomic Wedgie ..... we've seen more than we need to.
While I do love Eteri in her jeans with a $2-5k LV coat on, I am also waiting for her Andy Devil Wears Prada makeover. 🤩
100 on Tuktamysheva, it was so gorgeous but if she had just stayed on the ice a moment longer!!! 😬
Dave you should sign up for the gay games 2022 if you’re interested!! Just signed up myself and so excited !! :) Hope your competition journey goes well this year - hoping cases go down soon so adult comps (and skating itself lol) come back in Canada soon!

The turtleneck is probably more of 'Sangria' or a shade lighter than 'Mulberry' in Savile Row. You can only tell the true 'purple' shade when you put something green next to it, the depth of the material then becomes clearer. Anyhow, looks cool :-)
Dave, did you know that Shasha was asked about hormone therapy during her interview? And the reference was made to American journalists who accused Russians of using the hormone blockers
I love how Russia pretends to investigate things by just asking a lot of opinions...
@@TheSkatingLesson yeah, including the person who might have used it as well.
I don't see how the media can guess or question if the Russian girls are using "puberty blockers" because it's pretty obvious. All the 14year-olds look 11 and the 16year-olds look 13!

Such a good point about the music instrumentation!!
I don’t really like how angular Benoit’s choreography is. The shapes look kind of awkward, imo.
I think his SP for Bradie last season really worked (look past the Santa Claus dress, since everyone calls it the Santa Claus program)
I might be forgetring many of his programs but 2 programs came to mind, like Rika's fire within SP and Kaori matrix FP are good programs and unique IMO.

I think enormous orchestral pieces work SO well with Pairs. It goes with the big moves. I think the World's judges agreed with me. Lol. Many pairs should go back to big music.
That's a perfect way to describe this music as background music - which we used to call elevator music, which meant boring. 😉 Toast to Jonathan's point, look at Hanyu's iconic Chopin program. All you need is a piano with great music like that (and it was written for piano, that helps).
Dave is right about local rinks sound systems. I can no longer hear Bring Him Home without wanting to gouge my eyes out. Or ears? Whatever. Lol.
Is there a link to watch the show from the city of Perm?
Can anyone explain to me why is Valieva constantly changing dresses for the same program? I’ve seen her perform Bolero at least in 3 different costumes, she was having a new dress for Exogenesis at the end of 2020, now for the first of the Tutberidze shows she was having another new dress for Exogenesis with short purple sleeves and a golden application in the front, a day later the sleeves and the application were gone and now her dress is just purple with tiny straps. Apparently, it is not connected with growing issues as she is changing the dress for the same preformance almost on daily basis. So I wonder if she is sooo picky or there is another reason?
the red one for Bolero was too heavy and contained too many details which interfere her to focus. don't know about the rest

Didn’t Renee roca choreograph both programs for Alexa and Brandon this year?
No. Benoit Richaud did both. Renee worked with haven and Brandon in the past.
@@TheSkatingLesson Oh interesting their bio only includes Renee roca. and I thought I saw an interview where Alexa mentioned since they used her coaches they chose to work with his choreographer.
Evgenia and alina are the most well known eteri girls. After them, there are just too many iPhone models with the same programmes. It's almost becoming boring, to the point where we are living for their drama instead of the talent.
@Jeremy all the Eteri girls are different. Alina to Zhenya Aliona to Sasha. Anna to Alina Kamila to Zhenya and elizavita to Aliona and so on. Only 1 or 2 of them have quads and only 1 or 2 of them has a 3A. They are not the same and they do not skate the same..
@@rsb512 I think the tiring aspect is having a podium full of children everytime. What made the 2018 Olympics interesting was all the older skaters that brought elegance and longevity to the sport. I also loved that Osmond got the podium. I don't enjoy seeing kids do these arkward pre-rotated jumps they call quads. Anyone who compares their jumps to kolyada will understand lol.

Thank you so much for your tireless work (this has to take a lot of time to produce and edit) and any news you have about Alena Kostornaya is always appreciated. speaking of animals, what is with this trend where so many of them now have an animal as a kleenex box holder?? are they just all of the sudden copying yuzuru??
and speaking of necklaces, does anyone else find it weird that so many skaters wear them? i do not understand how it does not distract or annoy them when they are spinning and you can see the chain wildly whipping around.
Just what I need before I finish recording the Saint Saens Bassoon Sonata for my senior recital. I saved the hardest for last. Oof
I am beyond nervous because this piece is what is required for professional bassoonists.

Hello everyone! Does any know what is the piece from Venessa Mae that Tursynbaeva skated to? I can't seem to find it.
speaking of technique.
Pre-rotation is unlimited in current rules.
And losers always whining about their non-existent "mature elegance" or other nonesense.
