I'm dedicating this video in memory of my late uncle who passed away in between planning and creating this video.
After my father passed away in 2007, he took over helping me and my mother with everything from fixing our old riding mower to taking us to the doctor out of town. He treated me more like a son than a nephew.
    ================================================================
One year ago I had to replace the spindle on my lawnmower, while I had everything torn apart I decided to try Por15 to Undercoat it. So I decided to film the process and upload it to UA-cam, and do a one year update.
I have had a few requests asking me what my mowing environment is like, so I decided to create a bonus video to go along with this, if you're interested in seeing it the link for it is below.

Just ordered a kit before watching. My Cub Cadet is rusted up bad. Had to get the front roller attachment welded back on last week. Hope i have better luck. Was thinking POR15 or Rustolieum. Time will tell. Sorry about you folks. Good video.

Ok, here’s the deal. Grass grows in dirt. Dirt is comprised of decomposed growing matter and sand. The sand came from rocks that broke down over thousands of years. So basically any time you mow you’re throwing sand up against the underside of a mowing deck. This is just as if you were sanding or sand blasting that surface. Anything on that surface will eventually be abraded off. Anything!
I brush used motor oil into the deck and that helps with the rust on those areas where the metal hasn’t been sandblasted. That’s about all you can really do.
Same goes for vehicles, especially those which regularly drive on dirt roads, except the abrading is done by small stones. These will penetrate ANYTHING applied to the surface. Once penetrated, water will get under the layer applied and rust the undercarriage from the inside. You won’t see the rust until the bed liner or other application peels away, exposing totally rotted frame.
Spray with used motor oil and call it good. Nothing else will last any longer and everything else costs money. Old oil is free!

Not sure if this helps but when I use POR15 I sand off as much rust as possible, degrease with abrasive scrub, rinse, degrease without scrub, rinse, apply Metal prep keeping wet for 20min in metal prep, rinse, wipe down with rags and acetone. apply POR15 undercoating lightly, wait till tacky, then do a second coat. Makes for a strong final result.

Good effort, you did your best with this product. I put a high lift blade on the discharge side of my deck which helped to reduce grass build up.

I hot dip galvanized my deck ,and then coated it with linseed oil 17 years ago, it still wore off underneath but the top is in great condition

I'm considering applying a higher quality spray on bed liner.
But either way it was a fun little experiment. 🙂

POR15 is for protection against rust. It is not for protection against wear.

That is part of why I wanted to try it.
Some people swear por15 is nearly indestructible, well I had to remove the deck anyway to replace a spindle so I decided why not put por15 to the ultimate test..
I still wanna try truck bed liner just to see the results.
But it doesn't stop me from wanting to use por15 to undercoat my truck frame, followed by a coat of truck bed liner to protect it..

First, let me offer to you my deepest sympathy upon the passing of your Uncle Jake. Obviously, he had a good influence on you since you turned out to be a fine young man.
Secondly, what did you expect to find under your deck after a year of pounding the living heck out of it? I don't think that there is any product made that could take that sort of abuse and still remain as applied. I say that POR 15 did as well as can be expected and should be reapplied every year as part of routine maintenance.

      I appreciate it..
I agree with, honestly I suspect it wore off after the first mowing but I heard so much about por15 and how tough it was so for fun I decided to coat it..
I was planning on using truck bed liner, but then my mother's health started going down and I had to drastically shift my priorities, unfortunately she passed away August 15th of 2023.. My brother and oldest nephew have been helping me with all the yard work because I literally couldn't leave her alone..
