Phemomomal lyrics but credit must be given to the music too. There are very few rock songs that include such a discordant accompaniment. It really adds to the feeling of agitation and dissatisfaction portrayed in the lyrics. James is an outstanding (and very humble) musician.
Completely right. Obviously hes well respected but i don't think JD Bradfield gets enough credit for moulding Richey's completely chaotic (but still brilliant!) lyrics into the masterpieces they are.
Absolutely, the raw power and passion of the music is what makes the song what it is. The words are powerful, no doubt but the band delivers the message!
What's so lovely to hear is how James is so enthusiastic about the lyrics and says nothing about the amazing music he managed to compose to deliver it.
Hmm not sure when i first heard the album in 1994 i was 20 it scared the living shit out of me, never heard anything like it (The Holy Bible) and i was a guitarist in a death metal band at the time....
@Ciaran Moran213 What i meant was the album was dark and hard to digest not that i didn't like it so much if you get what i am saying but it did grow on me you are right. I still have the original cd and the cd single ' she is suffering' i think subconsciously even back then i knew this album was special/important that's why i held onto it and the Manics weren't particularly big either at this time. But my god it was dark i was also listening to 'Undertow' by Tool at the time which certainly isn't happy stuff either. But i honestly think The Holy Bible is probably darker still. So powerful. It can consume you and you can feel the absolute despair in Richey Edward's mind...
I love how Allen joins in on 'Tolerate' but leaves this well alone. JDB's always been an excellent songwriter, but as he alludes too at the start Richey dragged some of his most original compositions out of him. Spellbinding, never thought you could play this on just one guitar.
This is a rocky number (usually)!I am an architect, they call me a butcher - I am a pioneer, they call me primitive - I am purity, they call me perverted - holding you but I only miss these things when they leave - I am idiot drug hive, the virgin, the tattered and the torn - life is for the cold made warm, and they are just lizards - self disgust is self obsession honey and I do as I please - a morally obedient only to the cleansed repented - I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer I spat out Plath and Pinter - I am, all the things that you regret - a truth that washes that learned how to spell - The first time you see yourself, naked you cry - soft skin now acne, foul breath so broken -he loves me truly, this mute solitude I'm draining - I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing - Sleep cannot hide thoughts splitting through my mind - shadows aren't clean, false mirrors, too many people awake - If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down - I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else - I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer I spat out Plath and Pinter - I am, all the things that you regret, a truth that washes that learned how to spell, learned to spe - eh -eh- ell! - So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything - So damn easy to cave in - Man kills everything -So damn easy to cave in - Man kills everything - eh- eh- he -hing.
Better than the original? I think so. I put Richie Edwards on a par with Neil Peart. Great lyrics. Both of their stories are tinged with sadness and tragedy but they both left a legacy of stunning literature.
Amazing band... Amazing songs.. an yeah its a damm fuking shame we dont know what happened 2 richey manic... 😔, but watever happened 2 him he shud b proud of his band.. 4 real.... ✌
Of course he is...he is always in their minds every concert they play and Nicky and James always dedicate a song and reference him. His candle still burns very bright like an eternal flame within. 😍😍
This version is just fucking brilliantly done. The man is a genius.
Who’s watching in 2024?
Great song. It doesn't age.
Me......never gets tiring....

This song is one of the greatest lyrics ever written

I’ve never understood how James managed to turn Richie’s prose into songs. Rip Richie

James Dean Bradfield is the best singers ever!
Stay Beautiful he is.
@@manorbier one of, for sure. I like to think as him as a bloody good acoustic guitar player also. 👌
Allain’s face at 1.59. Its like he has just realised that he has just heard the lyrics of a genius. Hope you are peace Richey, wherever you are.
I like to think that Richey is still with us. I imagine him appearing one day, at peace with himself and his life sorted. ❤️❤️🤘🤘🙏
Never thought I'd see the day when I'd hear an acoustic version of this. Beautiful!
This song still sends shivers down my spine. Music resonates within his soul.
This man has alway meant the world
to me and is so missed ot hurts.R.I.P Terry Hall.
Thankyou ❤❤❤❤😢
"If you stand up like a nail, you will be knocked down" - Stunning.
Chinese proverb?
Richey was a lyrical genius + James, well James is just perfection. 💜💜💜💜💜💜
He can make any song sound good. Such a great singer and great guitarist. So rare to excel at both!
Hope you are at peace Richey wherever you are you will always be an architect, a pioneer and purity
Wrote the most beautiful lyrics ever
Richard I hope you’re at peace
This song made me read 1984 when i was about 13
addendum: the camera guy is amazing with those transitions!
You only get how angry Richie was by how sweet James sings the lyrics here

もっと評価されても良いミュージシャンだと思う。
Wow... I'd never of thought this song could work well as an acoustic :)
2 of the most talented men in the history of music are sitting in one room... Burned down by their talent & beauty ❤️

An absolute masterpiece.
Peak. Heartbreaking. Beautiful. Cheers. Proper life affirming 👍

hahahahahaha
That's fucking hilarious!
😂
Fucking wow, just wow!
such a fucking poet
Thanks for uploading. ames says it all about the song. Wish he'd sung 'Too Cold Here'
Tuneage!
Standard tuning?
I understand, I have been told by the c of e the only fun I can have is in heaven , painful song
Who is the c of e?
What is Menza?
That made my toe shoot up in my boot.
some quality dramatic / introspective facial expressions going on in the background
Oh I can't stop laughing. XXX
something else !!!!!!!!!!!
When someone like Sam Smith gets more air time than Mr Bradfield , we know for sure the world is fucked up.
Chords????
I think the sound mix is wrong. There is not enough piano. Or is he not playing?
Neither Grant nor Toussaint are playing their pianos.
They don't play piano for most of the entire show...
Should have got his balaclava out!
richey is still alive but not in the story of the band
Of course he is...he is always in their minds every concert they play and Nicky and James always dedicate a song and reference him. His candle still burns very bright like an eternal flame within. 😍😍
they even set up a mic for him at every show, in the event that he returns...
Should have sung stay beautiful
