And, going slower than a car means you have time to look around, rather than things just wizzing past. I've seen more of Sydney in my few years of cycling than all my years just living here.
Well done on the double ton. That’s no easy feat. A really entertaining and enjoyable vid to watch. It looked a nice way to spend a day and it seemed more about what an interesting journey around Sydney’s parks has to reveal, rather than it being just a 200k crank-out fest. You really have the Midas touch when it comes to putting this stuff together.
Sometimes people walk around the city every day and see it from one end to the other by bike, but they soon start to get bored. Then they get the idea of going around the urban perimeter of a big city. It's still a great challenge to explore new places.
Thanks for making this vid! So many places I’ve never seen. By the way, the farm at 24min is Kyeemagh Market Gardens, it’s 130 years old and heritage listed for its connection to the Chinese community.
Instant bucket list ride ! I used to live at Croydon park (25 years ago) and did the bay to bay cycleway all the time. Makes me miss Sydney big time. Great video !
Fantastic effort Josh! Thanks for sharing this with your big audience - and for plugging the Bicycle NSW article. It’s exciting to see Garry’s concept grow in popularity. A bit of government funding to fill some missing links, improve some dodgy bits and add great signage would turn this into one of the world’s great bike adventures. I’ve done the whole thing too now - but in sections! If anyone is daunted by 200km in one day - fear not! Both loops pass several major stations. So it’s easy to break it up.
Thanks for watching the video Sarah! A similar concept would be what they did for the Bondi to Manly walk. Just add some signage and connect the missing links and it would be a fantastic asset. Thanks for all the hard work you do!
Big props to you! Just found your channel. Big kudos for doing such a huge ride around Sydney especially considering how bad/rude most motorists are towards cyclists. This city never ceases to surprise me regardless of how long I've lived here for.
I’m not that interested in cycling but this was so enjoyable to watch. You did a great job with the editing and story telling! I’ve got a new found respect for “annoying” cyclists now- you guys don’t want to be on the road either and Sydney is letting us both down with its dismal infrastructure. Thanks for sharing the vid!
Great video. I dont live in Sydney these days but have riden the M7 way too many times. You never really appreciate what you have until you no longer have it. Thanks for sharing this epic ride.
I’ve been doing “path explore” rides now for about a year now. after getting Covid, I felt lazy getting back on the bike. I kinda needed motivation. It was great to just do casual rides, just exploring different routes and paths. I like going solo, at my own pace, but I like it unplanned and just see where I end up
I have to give this a go - I've been commuting by bike from Sutherland into the city, and more recently to Olympic Park, but I still haven't ridden across the Woronora Bridge, so I ought to get on with it really.
That path from Rhodes along the river made me so nostalgic. Love that area, so underrated for cycling. Love the route, epic exploring like this is the best.
Love the video format, BGM and shots. Love the dedication to bringing a camera just for those shots along the entire ride. Keep up the content Josh! Not a huge cyclist myself but feeling the passion and love the videos.
This is fantastic. When I lived in Sydney, I rode a bunch of these individual sections (either on my clunky city bike with rack and fenders or a vintage steel road bike) but I did not know the bike paths were joined up enough now for a route around the whole of the Sydney basin to work. I know people are saying the clockwise direction makes more sense, but coming back from La Perouse through Centennial Park then over the bridge at sunset seems like an iconic way to finish. Definitely got me feeling sentimental. Well done!
There is some really underrated and beautiful bike paths out there. I highly recommend checking them out. Logistically for me ACW works out better since I live in north Sydney :)
Great video! That is a great accomplishment completing 200KM. Also thank you for including me in the video (I appear briefly at 8:05 🙂) As you enter Parramatta Park.
Great video Josh! Riding around your home city on the same routes can get pedestrian after a bit yet you managed to find an awesome adventure within that. Those rides are where it's at! Well done on your first 200!!!!!!
I have to say after road riding in a peloton for years, this was a very new experience for me. And I enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks for watching :)
This just got randomly recommended to me: you guys passed me just north of Parramatta and I rode near you for a bit until I peeled off just after getting on the m7. Nice work on the ride, might need to do it one day.
Wonderful video, Josh. You’re really lucky to live in such a beautiful and vibrant city, and have a great group of friends to cycle with! Chapeau 🎩 for the big day out.
Wow! Looks like an interesting challenge! (Especially on a 20x4 inch tyre fat bike!) Although I'd personally probably do it the other way around and get the hillier southern bits out of the way first. Nice video, it's got me very interested in giving it a crack!
Awesome! As a Kiwi who used to spend time in Sydney I’m amazed at that route. These days I go to Melbourne regularly and love their cycling infrastructure. Here in Auckland we have a few nice paths but they’re pretty disjointed still.
23:57 - "I never knew there was a farm here" - my exact thoughts when I ran past that last year too 😂 awesome video as always Josh! This is up there as one of my favs
When I got home I had to go on Wikipedia to read up about it. It’s seriously some prime real estate for apartments or houses. So I was shooketh that there’s just a Asian farm
That was amazing Josh, 200k is in never never land for this old bloke. I really don't think there could be a circumnavigate Brisbane route. The Gateway Bridge has a pedestrian/cycleway over it which I have used to get from North to South but you now have me thinking
Great video. I did the 150 version a few months ago. It's on my list to do the full 200. It a great way to see Sydney and go to areas that you normally wouldn't go.
Good luck with the 200 when you get round to doing it. I’m really glad I got to do this, some of the bike paths were very beautiful. Even if I were riding in the area, I would usually be on the road and never see it.
Awesome vid Josh! Defs on my to do list. Funniest part was the start of the gravel section as it was normally the turn around point of my local park run in Chippo 😂
Great video Josh, and looked like a ton of fun! I did the 150km version over 2 days a while back, and planning to do it in a day with a mate of mine before Xmas (it'll be my longest ride if I make it). Then I'll think about the 200km+ version depending on how that goes... I'll be doing it clockwise to avoid the climb up from Alford's Point Bridge though! ;) As for the bike path 'ending' from Brighton.. not so. You can ride the path from Taren Pt Bridge to Kyeemagh without interruption. I couldn't quite work out where you thought it ended, but it's easy to follow all the way to Brighton Le Sands, where you actually have the choice of continuing on the path at street level, or a short length starting on the boardwalk along the beachside. After a few hundred metres they join again and it takes you to Kyeemagh under the Cooks River Bridge. No need to be on the road at all.
I looked at the 150km version too which looked nice. I also need to give it a go in the clockwise direction. The Brighton bit, due to the foot traffic we ended up just riding on the road. So we missed that whole section of bike path, which is a shame. I know it’s very scenic and nice. But it was just too busy.
Some of those cycle paths is what got me into cycling. My dad gave me his old push bike and I’d ride out to Homebush from Leichhardt along bike paths. Then it would be to parramatta, then it would be to prospect and back. I fell in love with exploring my home city, I wanted more and got on a road bike and hit the roads. Exploring so many cool places I never knew smudge had to offer. That feeling has since faded now that I have rode most routes too. But it really opened my eyes to how beautiful Sydney is.
@@joshkwan thanks Josh, I want to start riding in different towns on weekends and spend a night or two in those towns. Planning on going to Canberra with my dad for a riding trip, we have done the snowy classic last year which was incredible and tough as guys to say the least, but that opened my eyes up to where cycling can take you. Never would I have thought I’d see that area on a bike like I did.. amazing.
I'm surprised by how much of this I recognized. I'm a bike lane explorer. Apart from the southern quarter of the trail, I've been to most of these places. The full James Cook path is also a favorite of mine. It cuts through from Strathfield all the way to Tempe. It's also a short ride from Olympic Park, so it ends up bisecting the Sydney loop
I think the route utilises some of the more popular bike paths, so it’s good to see you recognise portions of it. The James Cook one I need to do fully.
I rode from quakers hill to Wolli creek on the same route and added kurnell into it, literally the day before you done the full loop It was Awsome!! 👌🏼
Thanks for bringing us on your PP-cherry-popping-journey! What an epic ride! 200km is quite the day out (we'll ignore Sharon for now)! It was interesting to see the different cycling infrastructure all along the way. Great photos too! And that shot at 26:42. I remember riding after a heavy meal. Felt like throwing up. Good job keeping it all in! p.s. yes I'm happy now, and love that 100% real closeup footage. You've gotta work on your fun facts game now though!
200km on bike paths and back roads is also a lot different to the normal smash rides that we do on the roads. Very different experience and mentality. Luckily I digest food fast :D
Always impressed, Monday Public Holiday - video drops within the week. Well done. Might be a bit more out of your way, but you should come visit Penrith sometime. Plenty of variety. Racing is startting back up on Monday evenings around the Regatta Centre, decent rides along the Northern Rd on the weekend, and then of course climbs up the Blue Mountains.
Thankyou thankyou. I skipped a lot of sleep to get the video out haha. Yes I’ve been told to check out the Penrith riding! I need to get out there some time
Thank you for using cycle paths one of the most grating but also nerve racking things about working in Sydney in the emergency services in a past life on weekends and public holidays was all the cyclists clogging the roads.
Great video, congratulations, puts my 50km on Sunday to shame. I've done maybe a bit over half the route, Meadowbank to Parramatta and M7 to Glenfield, Alfords Point and Woronora, Woolooware to Wolli Creek and Tempe to La Perouse. Actual Cooks River cycleway from Tempe to Sydney Olympic Park is also worth exploring and probably 80% plus off road although not part of the trail.
My friend and I have recently fallen in love with riding those e-bikes around the CBD when we’re drunk, which has turned into planning a (sober) day outing to find a scenic cycle route to a cafe and then riding back. I am a complete bike newbie, don’t own a bike, am intimidated by the idea of figuring out the gear to get for biking, hate the idea of biking around cars but don’t know where the nice (safe) cycleways are, but this video has shown me there are nice safe ways to bike around with a view! Thanks Josh. Am so glad this video popped up on my algo - I think I’m going to take the plunge and invest in some gear to get out there! If you have any reccs for where to get gear for newbies, or best blogs or sources of info for nice cycle tracks, pls let me know :D
Awww that’s a really heartwarming and wholesome story haha. Glad to hear I could inspire you on your journey. I would say a fantastic bike path is the Cooks river both path and the Parramatta river bike path. Both are scenic and safe. This is also a good resource: cyclesydney.wiki/? All the best. Gear for newbies: Budget - Decathlon Mid range - Rapha Spendo - CCACHE
I did the southwest section in 2012 as part of my personal best 110km in one day, “Vineyard to Wynyard” haha. I did some stupid stuff to follow the M5 but have since discovered the Menai cycle network - I quite enjoy it with an e-bike in the winter (probably wise?) and love doing the loop with 5 bridges around Woronora & Alfords Bridges, the railway and Lugarno. Cronulla to airport to the city is a piece of cake now, and you join the Manly Ferry or take the (correct) roads through Cameray to get to Spit Bridge, and then ride Manly to Dee Why to Narrabeen Lake and Mona Vale all on cycleway. Or to Church Point. Cooks River Cycleway is probably the OLDEST in Sydney, back when they called it a walk in the 1980s, going from Centennial Drive to Princes Hwy. It now joins onto the crazy network at Olympic Park - that’s the real Cooks River Cycleway!
I am the opposite haha. Familiar with the north and city, but not the southwest. That’s what’s great about this route, discovering places you usually would not.
Great vid mate. Late on this. Cool to watch because as I’ve moved around Sydney so many of these bike paths have made up part of my commutes. So cool to see them all linked up.
Great video mate, I really enjoyed it. You have inspired me to definitely ride the route. You should now sign up for the 2025 Peaks Challenge; 235km/4500m. I promise you it’s the best day in the saddle you can have in Australia!!
Damn, I didn't know Sydney was so pretty... and I live in Sydney. After COVID I haven't really explored anymore. I don't go out with friends, I don't make plans, I don't book events, I just stay home and rot then occasionally commute to the CBD for work and go straight back home. From the vibes around Sydney it feels like most people are doing the same. Good to see some people are still spirited.
loved this episode, I find your videos are like a chill, meditation moment in my week when I just watch the scenery you cycle passed and the cool group friendly vibes and your voice is chill to......Australia seems great with its bike paths and weather......Ireland is cold, wet, windy and if you find bike paths in this country it's most likely in Dublin where the traffic lights are every 200m. Can't believe you're only at 7k subs still....couldn't think of anything to improve your content....maybe some advertisement is all.
Great vlog. When I go out 'exploring' I take my gravel bike, its a bit slower but considerably more comfortable than the roadie. I dont take any notice of the stats on the garmin and just ride, it's nice to just switch off. My best lately is 180k and that was more than enough 😅 Keep up the fantastic work 👏 🍻
Cracking video Josh. Stoked to see you in Revesby, my suburb. I know a bit of those bike paths, but great to see all strung together. Sydney does get a bad rap, but I think out bike paths are pretty good. Though I have no basis of comparison. Will add this ride to my to do list. Keep up the great work.
I used to cycle a lot of minor and unused routes around Greater Sydney. There are so many opportunities for new bike paths to be built, if there was a coordinated effort between all the levels of government to make it happen. Hopefully one day.
I was at La Perouse (at the beach) in the afternoon, I feel like I saw you guys do the loop down past Bare Island because I remember your bright shirt. Crazy!
By far my favourite stretch of the loop is the cycleway under Gore Hill Freeway - you wouldn’t know the cars were there! It’s a forest. Such a shame you went a weird way to Chatswood, not sure why. The path from Harbour Bridge to Gore Hill to Epping Road basically goes in a straight line. If you can dodge a few suburban streets at Epping to Carlingford, you can rejoin the network at the new tram line.
We took the gore hill freeway cycle path but it was pitch dark so I didn’t really include much of the footage. I agree though, it’s very very nice down there.
Well done great video I completed the 160km on Anzac Day earlier this year starting from Hurstville and doing it clockwise. Completed all 4 markers however missed the M7 loop Like you I would have liked much better signage along the way 👍 Great cycling stay upright
Best part of cycling, being a tourist in your own city and discovering new places that you would never otherwise go to
Being a tourist in your own city is really fun. Feels like discovering something new 😊
And, going slower than a car means you have time to look around, rather than things just wizzing past. I've seen more of Sydney in my few years of cycling than all my years just living here.
This is probably the best vlog on sydney cycling and what sydney can offer… Thanks for the great vid bro❤
Wow that an honour. I’m glad that people enjoy my video so much
Thanks for the incredible effort! Not just the ride but the camerawork, editing, music, commentary, all SO good :)
Thank you :)
I put a lot of work into this video, so I’m glad people appreciate it ☺️
One of your Best Videos ever, makes me want to venture out even further than Marrickville 😄👍
Thank you :))))
The M7 path and the paths around Guildford, Fairfield, Wetherill Park etc. are all pretty awesome. All dedicated off road.
You are too kind. It takes a lot of work to make these videos sometimes, so it’s nice to see people really appreciate it :)
One of your best vlogs, how beautiful and diverse is our city! I am blessed to live near the start of M7!
Thank you!!!
Our city is awesome. And there’s still plenty more places to explore :)
That was fantastic, Josh!
Thanks for sharing your adventure. I really enjoyed your video.

p.s. yes I'm happy now, and love that 100% real closeup footage.
I need to get out there some time
Love the longer content videos! So relaxing to watch haha
Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you for using cycle paths one of the most grating but also nerve racking things about working in Sydney in the emergency services in a past life on weekends and public holidays was all the cyclists clogging the roads.
Great video! 😀
Thanks for watching! I have plenty more bike paths to explore. The full Cooks river path is on my list
@@joshkwan Thanks I'll subscribe and keep an eye out, cheers
That was a phenomenal edit man. Thank You for sharing this Journey with Us, your viewers :D
Thanks for watching it! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🤗
Gear for newbies:
Budget - Decathlon
Mid range - Rapha
Spendo - CCACHE
Great video! Thank you for recording and providing me with some inspiration!
Glad I could inspire you. Hope you have some fun rides :)
Excellent vid Josh! Really nice vibe. I’m familiar with the south, west and city bits but need to get riding in the North.
I am the opposite haha. Familiar with the north and city, but not the southwest.
That’s what’s great about this route, discovering places you usually would not.
Awesome editing and vlogging quality! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks bro! Appreciate it
Glad you enjoyed it
thanks that was a lot of fun, cheers . 😃👍
Wonderful ride, guys. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks for watching 😇
It's Casula Powerhouse. It is a former power station that is now an art centre / theatre.
Great vid mate. Late on this. Cool to watch because as I’ve moved around Sydney so many of these bike paths have made up part of my commutes. So cool to see them all linked up.
Thanks for watching dude! Glad you enjoyed it.
For me this was an awesome opportunity to explore areas of Sydney I’ve never been to before.
@@joshkwan that’s what it’s all about. Woronora bridge is so cool.
Great video mate, I really enjoyed it. You have inspired me to definitely ride the route. You should now sign up for the 2025 Peaks Challenge; 235km/4500m. I promise you it’s the best day in the saddle you can have in Australia!!
I may or may not be signed up for Peaks next year 👀
i dont cycle, i dont ride any sort of bicycle, yet i subscribed, great content.
Thank you sir 🙏
Nice video, Josh! I’m planning to do this some weekends now, also vlog it. I’m hearing all positive to this route. This inspire me to do it more 🔥
Awesome, let me know when you’ve made the vlog :) I’d love to see your experiences
I encourage you to get out there, explore, and see how beautiful our city is 😊
Epic ride bro! 200km on shared paths is bonkers but I love it!
Thanks mate! Very different to our usual road riding. But a fantastic way to explore and experience riding in a different way.
loved this episode, I find your videos are like a chill, meditation moment in my week when I just watch the scenery you cycle passed and the cool group friendly vibes and your voice is chill to......Australia seems great with its bike paths and weather......Ireland is cold, wet, windy and if you find bike paths in this country it's most likely in Dublin where the traffic lights are every 200m. Can't believe you're only at 7k subs still....couldn't think of anything to improve your content....maybe some advertisement is all.
Glad you can enjoy the video
Thanks for the nice comment :)
You can help me grow by sharing with your cycling friends 🤗
Great vlog. When I go out 'exploring' I take my gravel bike, its a bit slower but considerably more comfortable than the roadie. I dont take any notice of the stats on the garmin and just ride, it's nice to just switch off. My best lately is 180k and that was more than enough 😅
Keep up the fantastic work 👏 🍻
Yep, I think if I go exploring I’ll take the gravel out. Also gives you some flexibility to take some dirt paths too :)
a brilliant ad for sydney cycling, very nice editing as well Josh!
Thank you for watching!
It was great to visit suburbs I’ve never been to before. Revesby was nice!
Some of the parks and bike paths I went through were incredible.
This was a really enjoyable video to watch mate. Footage and editing on point (especially loved the high temp video grading).
Thanks so much mate, and thanks for watching.
Little tip: I used a flat orange picture ontop and then made it 50% transparent 🤓
wow i love Sydney's bike paths
Great video Josh, your mate is quite quick for his size 😉
We call him the vortex. He has pump out some massive watts
Great content thanks for sharing 👍🇦🇺
I used to cycle a lot of minor and unused routes around Greater Sydney. There are so many opportunities for new bike paths to be built, if there was a coordinated effort between all the levels of government to make it happen. Hopefully one day.
I was at La Perouse (at the beach) in the afternoon, I feel like I saw you guys do the loop down past Bare Island because I remember your bright shirt. Crazy!
Awesome! Yes I figured the hot pink would be noticeable haha
22:31 That cycle path starts behind Shark Park- home of the mighty Cronullla Sharks NRL team and hugs the western side of Woolooware Bay.
always good to turn the numbers off and explore ... thanks for the new route inspiration
Thanks mate! I think us roadies can get a bit lost in the data sometimes 😅
Looked like a lot of fun! I wish Melbourne had more sunny days like this 😅
Summer is round the corner 🙃
Well done great video I completed the 160km on Anzac Day earlier this year starting from Hurstville and doing it clockwise. Completed all 4 markers however missed the M7 loop
Like you I would have liked much better signage along the way 👍
Great cycling stay upright
awesome effort by you! The M7 is fantastic and I highly recommend. It can get very hot out that way during summer though.
Thanks for watching :)
