Yeah Vista got a bad rap because of 2 things., those being poor 3rd party driver support because scum bag peripheral manufactures wanted to force you to upgrade instead of just make proper drivers for what you had, and prebuilts being sold at or below Vista's minimum requirements. Never run an OS on hardware that just barely meets it's minimums, you're going to have a bad time. On my Q6600 with a GTX 8800 and 8 gigs of ram Vista ran like a dream and was very stable and reliable after Nvida got there drivers sorted. Ran that comptuer with Vista right up until Win 8 came out with no major problems.
A CPU that wasn't even that good when released with a graphics card that was midrange 3 years ago and a memory config that wouldn't be liked by any 8 year old CPU....
HappyBeezerStudios - by Lord_Mogul I have an i5 4460 and a GTX 970 and I don't understand what the fuck you're going on about. The cpu isn't bad. It is very fucking good. It can run bf1 ultra/high settings 60fps and pretty much any other AAA title.
What's really ironic is several people in the comments seem to not understand the concept of selling *used* things, just like the people in the video. Shit like "Oh, that's a scam! My PC cost more than that but isn't as good!" in response to someone else asking if a certain used rig for sale is a good deal. I wonder why that could be!? Because it's *used!* The parts for your rig were bought *brand new;* the person selling their PC is selling it secondhand. When you're selling something used, you don't price it as if it were brand new, and certainly not higher. You sell it for less. Significantly less. I thought this was common knowledge. And yes, I know that doesn't apply to all used items, but it applies to most of them - including PCs.
slipknotboy555 I agree that some of these listings are ridiculous, but people expect prices to go down by a lot simply because of a bit of age. These aren't cars that wear down terribly after average use, and depending on the parts you selected, it may very well be able to keep up with modern games. If the build CANNOT keep up with present day, then THAT is the moment I would want to see it priced for a lot less than what it may have been worth.
Tom If you sell something USED which has no collection value and has been in mass production, the value of it drops just because it's used. If you sell i.e. a PC for just 20% less than it cost you two and a half years ago nobody who has a brain will buy it simply because you don't have any warranty from the person selling it compared to buying new from the companies.
Tom You can't compare PCs to cars, New cars are insanely overpriced and lose significant value just after driving off the lot. It's the "new car tax", so to speak. And, after the initial "new" is gone, some very well-made cars hold their value _very_ well, much better than PCs. The person in the video referenced the price he paid for the PC new a year ago, but that was before the GTX 10 series replaced his GPU, and the GTX 10 series was an uncommonly good leap over the GTX 9 series. You cannot expect GPUs to hold value. Look at the old GPUs that are still worth buying; they are very high end, like a GTX 780 ti. But, even then, people want to charge more for older GPUs than the price of new GPUs with comparable or better performance. I guess that they think the MSRP of the card has some merit over the raw performance. The GTX 780 ti is similar performance to a RX 480, but people usually want $250+ for it. You see them selling for ~$150, which isn't bad, although they are out of warranty.
Call It What You Want My point is, some people expect outstanding discounts, and of course some sellers expect to get all of their money back. If a buyer is concerned about warranty, the solution is simple: buy it new. I've sold several builds throughout the years without any issues. I recently sold one that was significantly old for a bit higher than I was expecting, and the person buying it was very experienced with gaming PCs.
The Gumtree ones are from Australia. The sad thing is those prices aren't all that uncommon over here. A GTX 1070 would retail for around $700 over here.
I see people on craigslist and ebay selling GTX 780s for like $500 like do these people not realize that price goes down over time? Also, "Player Unkown's Battle Battlegrounds"?
That Gumtree website is an Australian website so would explain a small amount of the high prices as us Aussie get screwed over by the taxes and exchange rate. But still those 2 ads are a rip off.
Gotta say, dude, I was pretty vocal about my dislike for the last video that was similar to this one, but this was well done. This felt more like an informative video, explaining what to look out for and what to be cautious of when buying used parts. Nice job man.

Great Video Greg. I think you need to expand to cover all things computer related on sale. Laptops, drives, monitors, printers everything. Most ads and prices are ridiculous. Def need a weekly series of this and these people need confronting for sure!. Prob would need their permission if their voice shows up on video. I love when people are selling used and its like $5 cheaper then Microcenter is selling it for. Like come on man.
JimmysTheBestCop In my area, we have a guy on OfferUp who goes by "Sher" (actually it is one of his aliases as he has had the same profile with different names for quite a while) who does just that. He had an HP Stream laptop which typically costs around $200 listed for almost $300 and claims he paid over $500 for it.
LMAOOOO, Your commentary while reading those ads was hilarious! Thanks for posting. Had a crumby day at work today and good laugh was definitely needed.
Some of these people clearly think "used computer is like anything else just knock a couple hundred off what I paid for it and boom fair price." Too bad PC's don't work that way. Your "rig' is now worth about 1/3-1/4 what you paid for it at best. Sorry but true.
Not really, you're really going over the top when saying 1/4 value. Depends more on the age of the pc, i'd probs buy a pc fpr half the original price if it was like 3 years old.

Love your Vids, you actually helped me choose for pc parts. I chose the s340 because your pc looked awesome in it (your old one). I supported you from the beginning and can't wait for more content, Greetings from the Netherlands and keep up the good work 👍
ElZamo92 that sucks ass in terms of specs. Seriously I could build a PC for the same price of a MacBook and it would perform 10x better than the MacBook. Horses for courses m8
Yo I really like these videos but I just have one suggestion; when you are looking at these builds can you have the cost of that build if you put it into pcpartpicker off to the left side of your screen. Would be interesting to see how ridiculous some of these asking prices are. Like if they ask for $4,000 but it can be built for $2,000 or something like that. Keep up the great videos :)
These prices are just ridiculous. And no matter how great your PC is, don't expect to get what you put into it back. PC's are a lot like cars; as soon as they leave the the showroom the value drops, and fast! I just built another system and I know I will not get back everything I put into it. Even building to flip is sketchy as far as profits go. Oh btw, the GT 440 was a decent card Greg! So what if it's TEN+ years old! lol Love these. Keep making them!
Thank you so much for not saying every build's cable management... That was so terrible in the last video even though I love this topic. Glad this is going to be a series!
Gahhh, this reminds me that I need to sell my shit build to get a couple bucks to buy my last PC part! Anyone want a pre-built with an A10-6800 and integrated graphics?? Please
Alright guys. Its late and I've got stuff to do in the morning. I'll get back to this and give a price. However, I must say already, it will not have a HDD, or any other storage with it. Whether or not you're still interested, I will still put it up for sale sometime tomorrow. Once I do research on each part
Ok guys, I got the specs and the price, but due to shipping costs, im gonna give it a few days on a local market. I just want it gone at this point, so im gonna see if I can sell it for less then what its worth. If I can't sell it in a few days, I'll post a link here, to sell it.
The other angle: there are even people putting a PC for sale on there, but they don't 'actually' have that PC. Instead It get's more dodgy, they ask you to pay first and then they actually go out buy the parts for cheap and assemble it and pocket the difference.
You should make a series where you help people with their pc. We send a picture and you can say what you think should be changed to make it look better
7:32 that card isn't as bad as you think, I actually had to swap out my i5 for an i7 of the same gen because some games were not allowing the card to reach its full potential and I got boosts of about 15-20 fps in some cases.
Science Studio Just saying, an i7 isn't exactly overkill. Sure a 6700K is a bit overkill, but just a run of the mill 2nd or 3rd gen should work better than the i5s or i3s of that era in newer games like AC Syndicate and the like.
This should definitely be expanded beyond gaming builds. I would love to see those that claim that their item is "brand new" yet out of it's box on these videos, as well as those who reapply the sticker typically found on the screen of new smartphones right back on to the screen (with the bubbles giving the whole scheme away) claiming that it was "never used, and I only opened the box to check that the phone works". Or better yet, those who literally count how many times they used their item and have a bogus story behind why they no longer need it. "Only used 3 times but my girlfriend got me a newer one, so I'm selling this one". I really wish my girlfriend would buy me an iPhone 7 after I just finished purchasing the 6S...
You should do a video of people submitting set-ups to you they want to sell asking what you think it could be worth. Maybe just pick 10 so you don't get overwhelmed or whatever in case you had to research prices.
I think besides the high prices, the worst ads are those, where the whole description contradicts itself in the end and on top of that there are like a million typo's. Everybody can do something wrong but sometimes it's just a lack of interest - which shouldn't happen if you wanna sell your stuff.
So I did a check on the one that was submitted by @LexiiHatesYou and that's a Gumtree post from Australia. So the prices are a bit inflated for what he's selling the computer new would cost around $3,245 AUD. The VR bundle costs around the $1,500 AUD mark.
Rule of thumb is, every 6 months your computer looses anywhere form 15 to 25% on parts depending on the cycle. new sound cards come out much less often, video cards loose their value extremely fast but depending on when crypocurrency is happening it may gain some value. so if you bought your pc 1yr ago, if you want to sell it, chop 40-50% of the sale price. Take into account all current costs and cut that by 15-25%/yr. We aren't talking about people financing this, you're going to pay someone cash. If you charge any more than this, your machine will never sell.

7:32 that card isn't as bad as you think, I actually had to swap out my i5 for an i7 of the same gen because some games were not allowing the card to reach its full potential and I got boosts of about 15-20 fps in some cases.
deathbat6916 I've owned and tested several 1050Tis. Very familiar with its potential.
Science Studio Just saying, an i7 isn't exactly overkill. Sure a 6700K is a bit overkill, but just a run of the mill 2nd or 3rd gen should work better than the i5s or i3s of that era in newer games like AC Syndicate and the like.
I am liking his playlist !
Do some BEST PC Ads??? I'd be interested in that.
You should do a video of people submitting set-ups to you they want to sell asking what you think it could be worth. Maybe just pick 10 so you don't get overwhelmed or whatever in case you had to research prices.
5:59 Nebraska mentioned. Thats the most excitement we're going to get for the next 20 years.
I think besides the high prices, the worst ads are those, where the whole description contradicts itself in the end and on top of that there are like a million typo's. Everybody can do something wrong but sometimes it's just a lack of interest - which shouldn't happen if you wanna sell your stuff.
Hey I just saw your video reviewing the B350 motherboard that you made in June, just wondering what case you used in that video?
So I did a check on the one that was submitted by @LexiiHatesYou and that's a Gumtree post from Australia.
So the prices are a bit inflated for what he's selling the computer new would cost around $3,245 AUD.
The VR bundle costs around the $1,500 AUD mark.
That setup of yours in looking beastly
Those are rare custom builds that hints to this channels specific bargain hunt.
