- This is Barnacle Bill, which was used as the original Blue Peter theme tune from 1958 well into the 60s, the show still uses the same tune as its theme, but several different versions have been used since this one.
Brings back memories of John, Peter and Val , God I'm really showing my age now,
Me too John but I certainly wouldn't have swapped all of that with what today's youth have. 👍
Brings back many 1960s childhood memories
Classical music 🎵 brings back the memories
I must be ancient now I've started seeking out old theme tunes from the 60s and 70s!
Same here, Memory's
ME TOO!
Me too, too. But, don't let it shame you. Everybody who lives long enough will feel the same way about their era and the music they liked and still like. But, let's faceit, compositions and music generally were so much better in the time when there were good composers. Somehow, there just aren't any now.
But, andeemart! I hate to admit it but you're a spring chicken if your time was the 60s and 70s! I'm admitting that I love the stuff of a few decades earlier and that's like admitting to some terrible habit, these days.
They had some Great Themes back then!
Brings back memories of dancing to this in primary school 🫣😅
Isn't this great? The drum-roll at the beginning immediately announces - "here is something special: pay attention". No wonder Blue Peter was Children's TV Royalty.
marvelous, what a marvelous melody
Best Blue Peter intro ever :)
Wow just wow this brings all the fabulous memory's flooding back. Thank you for the upload
Why on earth did they change it? This arrangement is far superior to the version they have now.
I also think the same thing every time I hear the Crimewatch theme or virtually any other updated theme tune. If they're perfect, why improve them????
Beautiful.
brings back great childhood memories
Although my memory is fading I am sure you could hear the creaking of the rigging on the sailing ship as the programme opened
Awesome! they should have just kept this one all the way through!
Yes definitely the proper Blue Peter theme!
such a classic theme of yesteryear.
Takes me back 40 years!!!
This was the real Blue Peter tune.
I remember the golden era of Peter Purvis, John Noakes and Lesley Judd.
A truly brilliant show
One of my favourites
childhood memories I'm 53 now val singleton, john noakes, peter purves, petra and shep.
"Get down Shep "
That takes me back to my childhood!
There have indeed been other versions, but to those of us of a certain age this version is the 'real' one. And I had a severe crush on Val Singleton :)
Didn't we all ;) !
@@pyotrleflegin7255 No.I was more of a Susan Stranks man (she was one of the presenters of the ITV rival "Magpie").
Still do.
I can remember Christopher Trace presenting Blue Peter, but the classic era was Val John and Peter with Leslie Judd joining. Few BP presenters have matched their connection with the audience, Janet Ellis and Matt Baker are the only later presenters who got what Blue Peter was about. Konnie Hug was the best of the recent crowd. Last time I watched with my youngest child it was a depressing experience.
The show relied on cultural markers like summer holidays, bonfire night and Christmas that no longer exist, as well as respect for authority. It was only for appearances, presenter's lives were as complex as anyone else's, but they did a good job of making a sometimes difficult world interesting. The number of Blue Peter Annuals sold every Christmas show what a cultural icon BP was.
Back in the old days
I cant belive the show is still going strong
'Strong' is such a strong word. It wasn't what is was and the audience has gone down.
thank you
Bring back the memories
The BEST Blue Peter theme!
and here's one we made earlier!
Great theme! But isn't there a longer version of it than this?
By the way, it was used until January 1979.
Dave Jeffery uses that! Also, Happy 60thbirthday.
not ancient, just reminiscing, now that technology can take you back, thank the W.W.W. for this, I loved BP as a child in the '60's
