Good advice. when I first hit my walk behind I would forget to hit the mower with the grease gun. Thankfully no negative repercussions for my negligence. While your advice seems minor, following your advice will prevent senseless, costly repairs. Keep up the good work...

Worth noting that my gravely manual states "important" that you should tighten the wheel forks on so tight that it just starts to resist the wheel spinning. I dont think you want your wheel spining as freely as your front right one. Too much play.

If you make them too tight they will work against your transmission when you are turning around

Thoughts on lubricants for anti-scalp wheels? Often no bushing let alone grease fitting. Is this a case where something may be worse than nothing (in terms of attracting grit and wearing even faster)?

I believe so. It's just plastic on metal instead of metal on metal. So it should be fine.

@@LawnCareRookie I actually found some dry, spray PTFE lube lying around, it worked perfectly. Just kept spinning the wheels while spraying at the bolt, it'll work its way in.

I would like to add, use only Moly grease. I grease my wheels and all the other fittings when I sharpen the blades. Grease is cheaper that parts.

Absolutely! And good idea! I also try and group as much together so I don't forget. I had to just do this on the fly.

It's crazy I have a 2016 Toro Z 3000 and another Toro Z 2017 model and neither one has grease fittings in the caster wheels or even a place to put grease fittings. Not sure why they designed the newer models like that other than hopes that you can't service them and have to replace the bearings sooner. Lol who knows but I know what I "wheel" do lol is take them off and grease them manually

Yeah, lol. The Grandstands are like that now too. It's supposed to reduce maintenance. They have them covered so they don't get dust and dirt.

Josh's Lawn Care supposedly they’re making such “high quality products” greasing isn’t even required anymore
