I remember watching that 4x4 tiny home video and thinking it was so revolutionary, it still is such an iconic build though! Can't believe it's been 7 years??? I feel old haha
I'm at the point where James' vids are pure nostalgia. Been my source of sanity through school, uni, breakups, pregnancy and now in the night wakes with my baby 😅
That whole shuffling of the kitchen area makes me wish we could chop on different surfaces.. Like we could totally have a butcher block surface item that the sims can cut on then we could place it on the mini-fridge or any table or desk, basically converting any surface to be a counter
Dream home decorator ceramic hob can be prepared on AND you can place the oven from that pack under it using move objects. Its fully functional in game. Occasionally graphically glitches the oven door, but still functions just fine.
@@beataceylan technically you can, you have to use the islands though. Just put a dishwasher in and size it down to the tiniest size then add whatever you want under the now empty looking counter-space underneath.
I remember watching the original tiny house videos, I thought they were the most creative and imaginative builds. They’re part of the reason I bought the tiny living pack. It crazy to think so many years have passed since then. Time flies

@@Chickenwing5031 wait, I just learned he was born in 1994, theres no way he was around the sims in the 2000s !!!!! at least not in the epic sims 2 & 1 release periods of time, the early 2000s and mid 2000s glorious days LOL, but I had a cousin from 1993 that loved to play the sims 2 with me as far as 2005 so I dont know, but he definetly did not run the SimSupply page of 2006 lol
First of all, let me just say I have been waiting for this video for years and I was so excited when I saw the thumbnail! Secondly, you can place the individual stovetop on a counter and sims will still use that counter to chop things up. So you could actually do a 2-tile kitchen with the mini-fridge, oven on top of the fridge, counter, and stovetop, and it would be fully functional!
Can even use the dream home decorator oven underneath the hob with move objects (it works in game just fine, sometimes glitches visually but still works). Then you could use the space on top of the mini fridge for something else, like a microwave to do all the basic meals.
Hey, James! I am from Russia, and I just have an apartment of about 15 square meters (your house is 16). In fact, one person lives quite comfortably on such an area. In my bathroom there is a shower, toilet and washing machine, and in the hallway there is a combined hallway and kitchen. The main room has a double bed, a large wardrobe, one bookshelf and two tables - large and small. In fact, I have only three problems concerning such an apartment - I don't have enough sink size, I have nowhere to put my bike (so I have a scooter) and I put dirty clothes in the washing machine right away, not in a basket or something like that.
You can have roof that looks similar if you choose one-sided sloped one and make it really low. It might even look better because it looks more angled and dynamic (you can even change the roof trim), not completely flat and boxy all around
To do the one tile bathroom, use the tiny living toilet, push it back to fit into one of the back quarter’s of the tile. Get the rounded pedestal sink, shrink it down one. Put it into the other back quarter. Line the university shower exactly with the faucet on the sink. Instead of a door, hang a curtain on the wall and replace that wall with a spandrel. TaDA, one tile bathroom
oh my, that was so nostalgic for me to watch 🥰 I remember that 4×4 build being the one which introduced me to James' channel and wow it's been 7 years already 🙉 anyways... loved the updated version, looks much more cozy sending lots of love ❤
Back when the original video was uploaded I still played Sims 3 only and haven't been into the Sims community at all, and I remember watching it because it popped up as a recommended video and being fascinated by the building possibilities in the Sims 4 and the looks of the game and thought "I wanna build in that game too!" and then I started playing the Sims 4 and have not looked back since - oh, the memories! Also, we definitely need mini fridges that slot into counters!
This was one of my favorite James videos ever & one of the first I ever watched from him. It's so great to see it again, recreated. Thank you James for sharing & have an awesome day!
I found your channel through that tiny home build! I remember watching that and having my mind blown by all the little tricks like putting the desk over the end of the bed, your tiny home builds were what really inspired me to get into building in the sims!! Its crazy to see how much has been added to the game since then.
I wonder if the original 4x4 would even work now that they've updated some of the mechanics. I remember watching you build this originally, and your 3x3 and your 5x5.
I loved this video! I've been watching your videos since High School and I'm 25 now. You've been spitting out some more build videos last and this month and I'm here for it. Hands down one of the most entertainers builders out here, thank you for this blessing Master Chief.
The original video and home is SO iconic. I think this updated version will be too. It's such a good starter home idea. My first thought for under the bed was, "does the keyboard fit?" Honestly, even after tiny living & bunk beds, I still utilize iconic James Turner tiny home hacks to make shockingly tiny homes including a favorite of mine at 2x9 for a Sim & canine companion. I feel like we need a "Make tiny homes popular again" movement. XD
When James says (3:11) that the shower can go right by the door is a little bit weird, and me as a swede has been to apartments in stockholm which is built EXACTLY like this 🤣
I remember the first 4x4 home build and thought it was so clever! The new one is even better. Still has that adorable exterior but with all the new packs, you can do so much more. Thanks for the vid!❤
The dishwasher/ stove combo does work. I use it so i dont need a sink. It works well when starting a 2nd sink. Its helpful in a 100baby tinyhouse and tons of sims need a sink
You should redo your apartment complex build! It is still one of my favorite build videos, even after 6 years, and I'd like to see how you would approach it now!
The Dream home decorator ceramic hobs can be prepared on top of AND you can place the DHD ovens underneath too with move objects on. It is fully functioning in game and I use that combo all the time in my builds. Occasionally it graphically glitches the oven door, but it still functions with it looking a bit odd.
I've watched that 4x4 tiny house video sooo many times, your creativity blew my mind 😂 so happy to see the upgraded version of that, and it's still as gorgeous! 🥹 I really love the green wall interior and the blue wall exterior, I want that irl 🥹❤️
Ive been building a micro home in tartosa. You probably alteady know this but you can create extra outdoor area by using a staircase 6 wide. It creates a nice verandah that doesnt count towards your tile count.
I also extend the roof eaves as far as possible and use terrain paint to paint a floor outside, making much of the house “open air.” This works in Oasis Springs & Sulani, since the weather doesn’t get too extreme.
So I might have saw the title in passing and started up a file to make a 4x4 tiny house. To see what I could come up with it vs what you'd make at the end and omg lmao. Yours is so amazing. My dude is in a shoebox
that was the first video i’d ever watched of you! i remember following the video step by step to build it myself because i didnt know the gallery existed.

Your Sims can actually use the spot with the flat burner to prep food, so if you use a counter and put an oven on the inside and a burner on top then they only need two tiles to make food. The second tile being the fridge, ofc.
Tip for a tiny kitchen. Put a normal countertop, dream home decorator stovetop AND oven into it. Minifridge and a microwave on top of that. Sims will use the stovetop as a countertop also, so you dont need extra one. This way the kitchen can be two tiles.
I weirdly think about the bathroom from the 2016 build a lot. Something about the door on a diagonal just gets into my soul. I really enjoyed the interior of the new build though!! Those Tiny Living Stuff swatches are so pleasant 🥰
Really cool build, I like the interiors being the same because it kind of gives the homes a more uniform feeling like a lot of tiny/mobile homes (that I have seen) have. As in, maybe one company makes the shells/exteriors as a kit, and another company comes in and does the interiors and non-structural stuff.
that 4x4 tiny home from back in the day is literally how I found your channel - I was obsessed with seeing how tiny stuff could get in the sims but still work.
There's CC somewhere of a Japanese(?) toilet+sink combo which can help you with just needing one square for that and another square for the shower, making the bathroom a sharp (and neater) 2x1. You're all welcome
Wouldn't be a James Turner video without being driven insane for a solid few minutes, just use a normal stove, normal fridge and a corner counter my dude 😭 Either way, this is a very nice throwback video, I believe your 4x4 was the first video of yours I saw and what got me to subscribe, and I've been here since 2015/16 or something like that!

me too, dang
My only gripe with the Tiny Living pack is that outdoor tiles count against your house size. Having a deck doesn’t make my house any less small 😅
Right. And DONT get me started on flat roof pieces!!! WHYYYYY!
But rooftop space doesn't count even if you use it
@@dandelionfieldss the flat roof pieces do. All other roof pieces are fine, but the flat roof ones add tiles to the total count.
I mean... doesn't add to your tile count if you just _move_ that fourth wall into place and use a temporary 1×1 to start the roof... 😁
That whole shuffling of the kitchen area makes me wish we could chop on different surfaces.. Like we could totally have a butcher block surface item that the sims can cut on then we could place it on the mini-fridge or any table or desk, basically converting any surface to be a counter
