When I do these challenges, I always spend the exact budget so that high budgets are a challenge too. If you're doing tiny homes, this becomes difficult fast. You probably need to buy a larger lot and make a larger outdoor space with more outdoor activities to spend it all and not have it look terrible.
I think the giant budget can also be just as much of a challenge sometimes, especially as you have to fit it in a tiny home. I count the budget not as a 'don't spend more than' but a spend as much of this as you can challenge.
Totally agree! Definitely think it takes away from the "challenge" of the challenge if you don't view it in such a way. Like Plumbella's similar challenge her's says "exactly" when it comes to budget. So "Exactly 40253 simoleons". I think that adds a fun element for sure!
This really has the exact look and feel of a classic Danish summer house (holiday home), with the wood paneling, the small rooms, and the big terrace - the only thing is you would need to remove the desert plants that wouldn't have the slightest chance of survival in our cold, wet climate 😅
This seems like every airbnb house I've ever stayed in, including and especially the awkward placement of furniture and strange decorations. I actually kinda love it!
Completely agree with the struggle to build with limited tiles and a large budget. However, I took it as part of the challenge to use the entire amount, if possible. Love how you hid the porthole window since it didn't really fit the style you were attempting to achieve. I did something similar when I was down to spending all but 1 simolean and decided to hide some paw prints behind the kitchen counters. Such a fun challenge, thank you! 💜
If you shift click once on a light in build mode, you can change the color of it without having to go into live mode. I do it all the time. Hope this helps!
Considering that the tv functioning as a bookshelf wasn’t always a feature, it’s easily forgotten and overlooked by those of us who either had the pack before that feature was added or just don’t use the item often🫶🏼
This house looks amazing from thr outside, but the color choices inside leave a lot to be desired in my opinion 😂 And it would be nice if the "teen" space actually looked like a teen lives there, some posters and a backpack scattered around maybe.
I decided maybe the teen is the child of the adult member of the couple, from the previous marriage, and therefore only lives there part time (hence the Murphy bed)
One thing I've always disliked about the Sims. The devs use objects/terrain paint etc., that we can't. That ends up with weird yard meetings where you can't match the grass right, or like James ran into, no trees to match the surrounding trees.
I did this challenge and it came out so similar to this, down to the awkward off-theme window that I covered with a plant 😂 you've influenced my style so much James!
Yay! I can’t make myself watch the LP’s out of order so am working to get caught up, but happy to catch a brand new stand alone video. Love the challenge generator!❤
This challenge could also have used the bunk bed with a double bed under it, so the teen and the young adult could be siblings or something, and the adult could have the main bedroom.
I don't know how I feel about the budget, on the one hand, I do want to see it be challenging, (like that first one would have been crazy challenging!), and on the other when I watched another video where you struggled to meet the budget and had to keep swapping stuff out and deleting things I was like noooo! I just want to see it look as good as it possibly can! There's room for both I guess is what I'm saying. Maybe it could be a separate challenge mode depending on what you wanted from the challenge?
Classic (early) James Though I wish it didn’t take sims forever to complete basic tasks so it makes ‘sim sense’ to have an outdoor bin by the front door. Not a welcoming sight or smell irl 💩
Nice build, but I feel like the outside looke nothing like Windenburg and that poor teenager didn't really get a room but has to sleep i an second living room, that no tiny house would have. As for budget, I think that you should have tried to use all your budged as budget is part of the callenge.
I waited so patiently for you to delete the bookcase since you already have two in the house and put a SINK in the kitchen instead..... anyways...... good build as always James!
I agree - tweak the budget! I’ve done two builds so far that I shared on the gallery, but I had to “spin” so many times to get ones that didn’t have such a high budget. I want a challenge! Thanks for doing these generated challenges on your website - they are so fun. 🤗😊
I love tiny homes and have become inventive in the "how can I make it look like a wall is completed here?" and "terrain paint is flooring, right?" technique. My poor sims!
I liked the budget. For those of us who love to clutter, that budget is so necessary. Plants and all the little everyday clutter that makes a place looked lived in add up. I will also spend a fair bit of $$ on outdoor spaces. Elaborate flower beds, gazebo, outdoor kitchen & dining area... and again, the plants add up. And when in doubt, you find expensive items & shrink them into bookshelf decor
I always struggle with budgets because the best looking stuff to me is super expensive. You always use the cheapest bin too, whereas you could've used the one that earns money but costs loads. Same thing with the mirror choices and wallpaper options, using cheap white vs a more expensive option. Technically you failed because you didn't use all the budget. That's where the budget becomes challenging because you have to fit a lot in a tiny space but still have it fit the theme.
I don't know if you really need to adjust the budget for the tiny home generator. You could have gotten closer to using up your budget by adding more clutter and detailing to your build. Also, the teen didn't really get a room designed for a teen; that would have eaten up some more of the budget.
Wow, our build styles are so different. I would never put a Murphy bed in someone's bedroom when I have a dedicated living room already (I'm throwing massive shade right now)
"gunna do one thats challenging" JAMES PLZ do one where your budget is 15k 4 beds, with fucking only 32 tilesallowed! everytime i do your challenge i get the short end of the stick and i am CRYING lol
I randomized and got a micro-tiny home with 31 tiles and I have only 11,000++ simoleans budget for a Teen, San Sequoia styled build. I had so much fun building a runaway teen tiny home, the new lunchbox came in handy and I can only afford a sleeping bag in the end. This was such an obvious runaway teen build. The story writes itself. What I'm trying to say is, I like your randomizer, don't change anything. The budgets are actually the best challenge! Whether it's too much or too little, that in itself IS the challenge!
I'm losing it. I tried to close the challenge window TWICE. Too much screen real estate taken up even though I know there isn't anything really going on in the top corner RIP.
Anyone else think James was gonna forget that the 2nd room was for a teen, since he kept calling it a second sitting room? Lol The house turn out AWESOME though. James never disappoints with his builds. I watched a video once, where they were testing people who deliver mail to ppl on boats, islands, etc. It was soooo interesting how many had a box on a dock, and ppl had to jump off a boat, run to the box, then run back, etc. Lol
I actually recorded this challenge for my chanel a few days ago and it was tough! I spin it a few times more after and I find that budgets are often too low (less than 10000$) - so I found weird when you said you get high ones, still a challenge to spend too - and most cases have at least 3 sims in a house, so it can get very very challenging to do it, but that's what makes it a challenge. I was quite happy with the result of mine tho! 😁
If you do debug items and have eco lifestyle, it's possible to do a house for 8 sims for $5,000. If you just have basegame, you can do a house for 8 sims for $10,000. It just means they don't get separate bedrooms. Growing up, we had 5 people and only 2 bedrooms and one of them was only big enough for 1 single bed. My parents slept in the living room on a pull out couch.
I'm loving this challenge!!! I had one the other day that had me building a 31 tile cottage for an elder for $9000 and needed to include.... a WEIGHT LIFTING MACHINE 😂 go granny!
I just come back to binge watching James again after my school work finally done and suprised to see another person with james voice to find out its actually james with no beard! Beard really is man make up!
I imagine that the teen and young adult are siblings, the young adult started dating the adult but T&YA's parents died in a fire, so the teen had to move in with them, which is why it looks more like a guest room that's slowly becoming personal. Quite depressing but..!
I’ve used the generator every day for like 2 weeks now. lol I always get stagnant with my builds and this gives me a reason to branch out :) thanks James! Can’t wait for the new pack to come out & see you play with it! ❤
All of my builds are super expensive because I clutter them to heck and back so a lower budget is the hardest for me but also makes me sad when the build looks barren lol
Not sure if it's just me but it doesnt look anything like the homes in Windenburg? I mean it may be a while since the last time I played but the house looks more like it would belong in eco lifestyle and not get together
I played with your generator and I had 3,035 left over to spend from a 19,032 budget. I had to build a 23 tile home for a young adult, teenager, and a dog. had to include a charcoal grill
I’d love to see you do kinda a cheaty/pre-tiny living tiny home, Where the house itself has to be x amount of tiles, but things that don’t count as part of the house/don’t make sense, you can do. (Ex: being allowed to do a raised porch/patio, or flat roof.)
been thinking since your previous tiny build in stranger ville that you could have done outdoor kitchens to extend the kitchen possibilities... would fit the environment and spend those Simoleans! xD
I am enjoying the challenge, I have noticed many entrants do not seem to know the build cheats like the Debug ones so they have a bare garden. James could you explain the cheat codes sometimes as not everyone know they exist. Love this house btw cool modern design
Me: I'm a noob at building but the budget is generous so I'll try one. Generator: 8,675 simoleons.... buy the arrrmed dining chair... But I did it. It's a cute starter home. Wish I'd had a bit more budget for a pool and more landscaping!
Something that confuses me is that the ceiling is in the floor category, and you use flooring for it. Don't you usually paint your ceilings, and they are made of drywall? It's not the flooring of the next level.
Yes!!! I’m so annoyed they used flooring instead of walls because the floor options make no sense to me?? I just want to paint my ceiling! And even with wood panels, the wall options would look better as a ceiling since it would match the walls.
I like how James always trolls us by waiting till the end to go back and put the bin in, leaving us to wonder for almost the whole vid if he's forgotten again 😂
james if you ever see this you should do one of these challenges while doing the no mistakes challenge. i feel like it would make for a great video lol
Do you have a room challenge generator? Like the same as the whole house build except just for rooms. You could do a random size, simoleons and style. It could have a random sim with traits as well or use your CAS generator to create the room?
The tile limit counts upstairs rooms too. So in this case he'd have had to split the 66 tiles between two floors. Would increase the challenge but the cost increase would only be the price of the stairs/ladder.
When I do these challenges, I always spend the exact budget so that high budgets are a challenge too. If you're doing tiny homes, this becomes difficult fast. You probably need to buy a larger lot and make a larger outdoor space with more outdoor activities to spend it all and not have it look terrible.
Definitely agree with needing to spend every last dollar of the budget making it much more challenging! Great tips.
Yes... I get it as close to zero as possible. Thar way it is still a challenge even if you get $37k for 71 tiles.
agreed! Plus, the clutter queens amongst us love a big budget. Plants and clutter get expensive but the details of a space are soooo satisfying.
I can here to comment this! Small budget for big houses is a challenge so big budget for small houses should also be
yes to this comment, I always get a little disappointed when people don't use all the budget. It is a challenge after all :)
I think the giant budget can also be just as much of a challenge sometimes, especially as you have to fit it in a tiny home. I count the budget not as a 'don't spend more than' but a spend as much of this as you can challenge.

i like to give myself the rule that i have to be at most $100 under budget (just because it may be nearly impossible to actually spend the full budget
Maybe in addition to tweaking the budget, you can have a rule where you have to spend 90-95% of it.
This really has the exact look and feel of a classic Danish summer house (holiday home), with the wood paneling, the small rooms, and the big terrace - the only thing is you would need to remove the desert plants that wouldn't have the slightest chance of survival in our cold, wet climate 😅
I was gonna comment that it looks swedish lmao, I guess it's Scandinavian then 😅
i'm from sweden but i've only seen houses like this when i lived in a holiday house at lego land in denmark for a weekend
This seems like every airbnb house I've ever stayed in, including and especially the awkward placement of furniture and strange decorations. I actually kinda love it!
