Instead of a door could you have used the window from the high school pack? The one where you can sneak in and out of? That way it’ll look less suspicious since a few houses have windows in the attic
@@gracie_l_lee Anyone can. My favorite image I've seen is a Sim owner complaining that no one in her house has used the window, then some random pregnant woman came crawling IN through it one day :D :D :D
I wonder if it would be possible to “live” in the attic not as a household member but as a visitor? Maybe with the always welcome trait so the Pancakes ignore him. Then Semaj could maybe actually sneak furniture in in his inventory
It is possible and really fun. Even without the Always Welcome trait you can use the facilities if you don't talk to the household and they don't catch you using them. And if you are unaccessible, in the walls or on another level, they can't succesfully kick you out.
I've done something similar to this with my runaway teen sim. I had her living in the attic of the pub in Henford-on-Bagley as if the Scotts took her in after she ran away from home. I had to officially move her into an empty lot, but she actually lived at the pub. She made money by playing music and singing for the customers. Only problem was sometimes randos would come up the ladder and use my shower and stuff since I didn't block it off. But it was a fun game!
Yesss 👍🙂 Dr Gluon did a mini series like this called 'unwelcome guest challenge' I think, seeing how long a sim can live in a neighbours house before getting kicked out
Attics generally have electric lights, at least in the US, so the bare bulb light would work well for this. I think you should have put a closet in the house and had a ladder in it. You could lock the door so the Pancakes wouldn't use it, but he could use their bathroom without them knowing (also the front door so Semaj won't use it to get to the attic). I can just picture Eliza constantly being furious with Bob for leaving towels on the floor and poor Bob not having a clue. Then they start hearing noises and think their house is haunted. 😂
It's also supposed to be a 'normal attic' full of old furniture, frames and boxes and stuff, but how did the Pancakes ever get it all there? So a ladder to the inside of the house is definitely missing.
@@stefaniegray this is what I came to say too. If it's an attic full of their stuff then they would have an attic door/ladder inside the house. Plus I would have just put a pee bush outside instead of all the plumbing
Imagine using the roommate feature so you don’t have to worry about other sims needs! That would be so fun cause the “roommates” would think they are renting the whole house without knowing there is another sim living in the attic!
Ooo that makes me wanna do gameplay of that but have it more realistic, just have a bed and entertainment items upstairs and having to use the bathroom and kitchen when the roommates are out lol
DrGluon has done this! It is called the Not Welcome challenge, though he didn't try to hide and did not use Always Welcome. The results were hilarious!
Perfect opportunity to lock the house doors for Semaj and lock the attic for the Pancakes. They lost the key one day mysteriously, then it fell into the wrong hands.
Here's an idea, that might work and looks kinda okay: Build an old chimney to get up. Let's say that the house used to have a big chimney, from the bottom floor up to the roof. It isn't used anymore, but it wasn't demolished yet. So there's a reason why it's there, and it doesn't look out of place. A 2x1 tile chimney looks good on most houses. You have a door on the bottom floor (maybe hide it with some bushes, trees, etc.) and you have a ladder inside the chimney. Then, at the "attic level" you have a little landing, the 2 tiles will allow that very easily, and a door that leads into the attic.
Occasionally in old houses there's a door in the attic to a space in the chimney, this was for meat smoking. So there's the attic door. For the lower entrance, some fireplaces have an ash pit underneath, and sometimes this is emptied from the outside via a hatch, which could explain the lower door.
So creepy! But kind of genius. When I was a teenager, we moved into a house with a crawl space. Under the basement stairs was basically a hole in the wall that went under the house. It just looked like spider webs and gravel. My mom wanted to store some stuff under there so she crawled in to make sure there were no leaks or anything, and found a little bed on the floor, food wrappers, clothes, etc. Truly terrifying. Turns out, the previous tenant had rented out that gross crawlspace to a college student :(
Funny thing is, and he clearly doesn't realize it, but this is a real phenomenon. People breaking into other people's homes, secretly living there, and coming out to use bathroom or eat while everyone is gone is a real thing called phrogging. It's super creepy to think about.
Annie, I was just going to mention that about Phrogging. There's a good movie with that in it I can't remember the name but I know it has the guy who plays Harold in the new version of The Stand, in it. Good movie
this would've been the perfect opportunity to use the high school years sneak out window (also I've found an easy way to blend in the trellis ladder platform is to make a fake horizontal trellis with low fencing to match the vertical ones. delete all the floor tiles except for the one in front of the door, then cover it all with debug plants so you can't see the floor tile! you can even use the grassy floor texture to help blend it in with the plants)
Some boxes I like to use instead of crates in attics are the boxes from eco lifestyle, they’re under the misc storage section in build buy and they have some really cute swatches, even one with a house on so it looks like they’re moving in
He didn't even try to come as visitor. Bob and Eliza would always know you as the visitor who overstayed your welcome. They can't use force to get you out, but they will hate you for it, and still will be paying rent somewhere else.
It's actually a very fun gameplay idea! You move into someone's house and try to take care of your sim's needs with their appliances without the house members noticing/crossing paths with the sim. The only problem would be them autonomously trying to talk to each other... That's what I thought you would do but instead you build a whole, luxurious student apartment on their attic :D
I'd probably lock the door to the actual house, so no one but Bob and Eliza can go in. That way, if Semaj has anyone over, they'll be forced to use the attic. Plus Semaj would get his precious glass of water from his own sink and not just walk into the house like an idiot 🤣. I've been playing a fixer-upper game in the Sims, where my sims inherit an old building they need to make into a livable house. They have a wooden barn with basic furniture they can use. The house has all the plumbing adjusted so that it's on the side or tilted, but since the game thinks they're functional, I have to lock the house, so my sims don't lie on the floor while using the toilet or so they don't go over the entire lot to wash their hands in the tilted sink after using the toilet 🤣.
I think the Pancakes would store some useful items in the attic. Maybe they got a folding table for redecorating or camping. If I snuck into someone's attic I'd see what they have up there before bringing in things.
I was playing as a runaway teen in a treehouse, and had the same issue with "portable looking" counters. There is a end counter that looks lighter than the others, maybe my teen dragged it up... Which is how I discovered you can't prepare food on an end counter. 😑
That is so cool! I love how goofy this is! Potentially you could have bumped the side of the house, so it would have looked like a fireplace chimney, and disguise the entry balcony as the rest of the open roof, but just sticking a balcony out of nowhere adds a little extra funny touch.
this is what i want for sims 5, realistic attic spaces that aren't too complicated to build and require using several roof pieces because my noob behind could never 😅
Welp this is random but it already screams chaos and I can't wait Also I really love that black blackground, it's classy AF (especially with that lamp) and so much better than the classic greenscreen
You should've cheated his relationship with the Pancakes down to 0 and see if you could live there without ever meeting them. Could be fun for challenges where you can't know anyone, like secret baby or runaway teen challenge :D
Someone secretly living in my attic is actually my worst nightmare. And now you've proven that it's super easy and IMPOSSIBLE to detect! Thanks a lot, Semaj 😂
This is eerily similar to (the poor excuse for) an apartment I lived in in my 20s. I loved it in some ways, but it was so dangerous, so sketchy, so cramped. The door leading out to the "balcony" gave me flashbacks! Edit: Gah, even the part where you hafta walk through the bathroom!! It's exactly the same as my old place but flipped sides! 😂
@@liablau When it's Vancouver, and it's a housing crisis, you gotta do what you gotta do! 😅 But actually, yes, it was a poorly converted attic space in an old four storey house (not OLD old, but y'know. 1940s maybe). The real front door was only used by the tenants in the main floor apartment, but to get to mine I took rickety wooden outdoor stairs up to a platform "balcony." That door opened into the apartment. Behind it was the bathtub and shower on the right, and a toilet and sink on the left (behind a tiny sliding privacy door).
@@liablau I did have a nice big south-facing window! In the summer, I'd open that, and then open the door at the other end of the room and get a nice cross-breeze! But just as James pointed out, it would get sweltering in there.
The HSY window would be less obvious! Also, Eco life has a storage cardboard box that would have been good to use. This video reminds me of a book I read where a lady was living in the crawl space of a family’s house. It didn’t end well! 😬
I'd personally put some random "cursed" items in the attic too, like gnomes and voodoo dolls etc., like things the Pancakes would've put up there and forgot about. Bonus if the attic dweller starts using the voodoo doll :')
the mailbox bro lmbo!! imagine the poor mailman that has to first locate the residence on the upper side of the house, then scale the freaking lattice to actually get up there to deliver the mail 😂
If Bob and Eliza used the attic for storage it’s possible Semaj didn’t have to carry everything up himself, assuming there was another way to get into the attic before Semaj built the balcony Also, there is a cardboard box item. I think it’s from Eco Lifestyle
This would be a great challenge! You don't join the household, just build/modify it and... "visit" indefinitely. You can only bring a bed, lights, and a bucket. You can also put a ladder to the attic, perhaps behind a locked door so the sims don't go there by accident. You must live in other sims' attic and survive off of their food and toilet, but if they find you you fail. How long can you last?
I cannot use mods/cc but I know from another streamer, (maybe Gluon has used it?) that Ravasheen has some rags to riches stuff like an orange bucket toilet and shower, and a pallet bed to sleep on etc. There are are also the sleeping bags and that new lunch box. You can squat anywhere with that stuff, and dont even have to be in attics. Maybe someone could make a squatters challenge?
The game has been out for 9 years and I just learned from this video that you can shift+drag the roofs to move them without moving where the "wall" is.
There is a cardboard box from either Eco Lifestyle or Dream Home Decorator. I don't remember which. I believe it is a storage item. It has different stickers on one side and it sizes down pretty well.
This is such a funny idea for gameplay! I'd love to see James use that one house Deli designed with the Sim living secretly in the wall spaces (Bruno-style!).
There's a literal portable shower from the Outdoor Retreat pack that would be perfect for this space! I use it in almost all of my rags to riches games. This was a fun video idea! Love that Semaj is moving in with the Pancakes - icons all around! 🤣
oh my god I enjoyed this so freaking much, what a great idea. kind of want to see a sequence - maybe you can try living on the landgraabs's roof? maybe have the entry inside through a closet or something? then you can slowly steal their stuff and bring it to the attic!
One missed opportunity: if this is the Pancakes' attic, and they are storing their old stuff there, can't Semaj use their stuff? E.g. instead of a folding nightstand or dinner table/desk, can't he just use an old out-of-style furniture item from the Pancakes' past? Also, the side table that looks like three suitcases on top of each other would fit just so well, I can imagine him arriving in the night, setting up his bed and just putting his lamp on top of any piles of boxes or suitcases he finds
How very silly XD And hey, thank you for the great tip on the roof! I never use the advanced roof tools, so I had no idea that you could use shift to extend the eaves like that! I will have to try and remember that for any future builds where I may want to use attic space. :)
So there are a ton of furniture items that can be put in a sims personal inventory now- I wonder if you had the always welcome reward trait, and technically lived on a grass lot and mostly used the portable items if you could actually live on their lot without being detected. You would still have to edit the house from their household first though for doors, structure, and probably toilet/shower.
I would've done this a little differently lol I might actually play like this at some point. First, use the High school years window for entrance cause it only makes sense for an attic to have a window, plus the sneaking in and out animation is much more realistic in this case lol. Second...don't move into the household...just come over and then never leave again lmao. Finally, for lore purposes I guess, an old bathroom would most likely be in the attic already instead of the sim having to build everything cause like...in old houses like that...they used to have live in staff/servants who lived up there. Same for the other necessities...it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for old furniture and electronics to already be there. It makes more sense than having to carry a bed, fridge and materials to DIY stuff. just a backpack and some stuff that fits into the inventory.
I made a secret bathroom disguised as a chimney for my sim because the other bathroom was downstairs and whenever I would ask her to go downstairs and use the bathroom she would be distracted by the kid and pee her pants (13 times!)😅
This would be so much fun if the Sims 4 had the apartments that Sims 2 did, so you could properly subdivide the living spaces. You can lock doors to keep people in their own areas, but you still won't get the noise coming through from other areas
In Chicago, I always see doors on seconds stories or above without stairs. It’s always on older remodeled buildings which kind of look like the Pancakes house.
now I want to see a series of a sim living in someone's attic but only sleeping in there, they would have to sneak into the house for other necessities and avoid being seen
Challenge idea: you try to live there and use their kitchen and bathroom without them noticing. In a real life it could be relatively easy since most ppl sleep thru night. But with autonomously acting Sims you never know! 🤣
With For Rent, you could give Eliza and Bob a crappy attic/basement that they rent out to Semaj and then he can interfere with their lives. What About Bob style!
this could be such a fun mini lp, and istead of having all the junk at the start. You could build some at the woodworking table or "steal" from the pancakes house.
You should try the Super Sim challenge that Carl came up with. You raise a sim from birth giving them as many traits as you can to make them super! (Ie. top knotch toddler, scouting aptitude, all the kids aspirations, character values)
I actually did a similar thing, only my sim had no furnishings in the attic to look after my sim, other then a dining chair and table to eat at. The goal was to sneak around and use the Pancakes utilities without ever meeting them/forming a relationship. I had to steal food, use their toilet and sleep when they weren't around. I would even take photos of them while they were sleeping and put them on the walls of the attic.
I love the idea of the hidden person in the attic being the only one with access to the holiday decorations, and Bob and Eliza never questioning who decorated the house
Instead of a door could you have used the window from the high school pack? The one where you can sneak in and out of? That way it’ll look less suspicious since a few houses have windows in the attic

This is amazing. Like Bob's cousin that needs a home but Eliza doesn't want to help
There is a cardboard box from either Eco Lifestyle or Dream Home Decorator. I don't remember which. I believe it is a storage item. It has different stickers on one side and it sizes down pretty well.
I kept screaming "the eco lifestyle cardboard boxes are right there!" 🤦🏾♀️🤣
This is such a genuinely funny concept, I love it. Exactly what the sims was made for, imo
You should definitely lock the doors in the main house so your sim won't go in and get water there
oh my god I enjoyed this so freaking much, what a great idea. kind of want to see a sequence - maybe you can try living on the landgraabs's roof? maybe have the entry inside through a closet or something? then you can slowly steal their stuff and bring it to the attic!
Bob and Eliza hear a random flush and have no clue why lol. Awesome build.
Rags to riches, but the bigwallet kid just secretly moves back into their parent’s attic to survive and earn their way.
I would also be terrified if I knew a full grown man wearing pink shorts lived in my attic.😖😝
Funny video. I liked the tip about using the "Shift" key to remodel the roof sections and create more space inside.
Secretly Moving into the pancakes house-
It’s early and I did NOT misread that 😂😂😂
How very silly XD And hey, thank you for the great tip on the roof! I never use the advanced roof tools, so I had no idea that you could use shift to extend the eaves like that! I will have to try and remember that for any future builds where I may want to use attic space. :)
Definitely need the woodwork bench thing. Would make it more believable that he created stuff
ah, yes, the old moving into someone's attic and performing construction on their house trick
I'm dead he has his bed in a nice secluded area and his bathroom out in the open by the door 😂😂😂
There are moving boxes with the eco pack. It's sorted with the closets and coffers : you can even put stuff in it !
Now with 4 rent we virulent make the attic a unit!
unhinged vibes, here for it
I feel like this would work even better now with sims for rent where you could make this into and ADU
As you clutter the attic, I'm getting big Arrested Development vibes.
Shoulda used the string lights! I could totally picture him finding some old Christmas lights in a box then plugging them in.
LOL, absolutely loved this idea!!! Could you build a bigger secret attic in the Roswells' house?
And, yes, the Pancakes would never noticed that you spent their money? Major LOL!
This would be so much fun if the Sims 4 had the apartments that Sims 2 did, so you could properly subdivide the living spaces. You can lock doors to keep people in their own areas, but you still won't get the noise coming through from other areas
"and here's a second chair for a friend"
plot twist: the friend is Bob
the dining table clipping into the fridge for like 10 minutes was driving me crazy
you should make a way into the house so you can sneak in their fridge and steal their food
What about the Window from high school years to sneek in?
In Chicago, I always see doors on seconds stories or above without stairs. It’s always on older remodeled buildings which kind of look like the Pancakes house.
omg please make this a mini-series! how long can Semaj live in this house without the Pancakes finding out? the suspense is killing me!
now I want to see a series of a sim living in someone's attic but only sleeping in there, they would have to sneak into the house for other necessities and avoid being seen
Couldn’t you just use the sneak in window instead of the door?
That drop light that came with Strangerville, (I think) would be cool. Located in the wall lights. This is so fun!! Loved it!
This would be great to revisit with For Rent 😂
You could also lock the main house doors for just Semaj so that he can't go anywhere but the attic.
You can live on any lot, you just have to knock on the door. Also Trait "always welcome". :)
turning one of my worst fears into a sims video lol
You should try the Super Sim challenge that Carl came up with. You raise a sim from birth giving them as many traits as you can to make them super! (Ie. top knotch toddler, scouting aptitude, all the kids aspirations, character values)
He's already doing the Super Sim challenge, has been for several years. He has been live streaming it on UA-cam recently. You should check it out!
@@HarshMelon oh snap! I didn't see. Thanks for letting me know 👌
I actually did a similar thing, only my sim had no furnishings in the attic to look after my sim, other then a dining chair and table to eat at. The goal was to sneak around and use the Pancakes utilities without ever meeting them/forming a relationship. I had to steal food, use their toilet and sleep when they weren't around. I would even take photos of them while they were sleeping and put them on the walls of the attic.
there are storage boxes from eco lifestyle!
I love the idea of the hidden person in the attic being the only one with access to the holiday decorations, and Bob and Eliza never questioning who decorated the house
not really secretly living there, you are part of the family. Possibly try the always welcome trait and just be there.
all i could think about is that the attic is actually a little mousehole with miniature furniture
Some of my relatives have a door like that to reach their attick so it's not that weird..!
For the next hidden balcony entrance you could use a debug tree or a normal tree because the branches would hide the balcony. An idea
I love how James makes gorgeous builds in the Sims 4, but then he'll always do a gameplay like this where he lives in a junk-filled attic 😂
