I got my ego accident out of the way a few weeks after I got my L's. Was racing a mate in his Commodore out the back of bum fuck nowhere, dragging knee, and found a stick mid corner. Instant lowside, and the bike, and I ended up in the bush. That reality check slowed me down really quickly. Over the last few years after seeing a Dan Dan the Fireman video, I've been using the potholes on these amazingly maintained Sydney roads to practice my swerves. If there's no cars in my immediate vicinity, I'll aim for a pothole and see how close I can get without hitting it, but still staying in my lane. It's all good to practice swerving, but you need to add swerving back to the muscle memory, or things can go from bad to worse very quickly. Egos are a huge part that I hate about group rides. Even the most mild mannered rider can let their ego get the better of them when they're over stimulated in a group. That's why I'm like you, and prefer being at the back of the group. If they want to take off, I'll catch them at the next stop. I ride because I enjoy riding, not for the thrills. If I want thrills, I'll hit the drag strip, cause unsurprisingly, 500kg worth of bike, and me isn't the most nimble, so the twisties aren't nearly as fun as they would be on a smaller/lighter bike with narrower tyres.
I just passed my final bike test today! Direct access to an unrestricted license. Took 3 attempt to even sit the test after all the snow and weather cancelling my tests since November 😂🏴
@Fergie1903 well the 1100 wasnt out when i got my 500 so even if i wished for it i couldnt lol. But tbh theres some features the 1100 has that are better. I know I'm responsible enough to bot ruin it or myself lol. But im still really happy with the 500 tbh. Maybe if i ride an 1100 id change my mind?
@@sergeantwombat Yeah exactly,Even though this will be my first bike. I’m not interested in going stupid speeds and being an idiot on a bike. Even though i’m 26, I feel i’m mature and old enough to learn and grow into the 1100. Just cost. I rather spend that extra on the 1100 than the 500 and get bored of it but you still love yours so it’s a hard one!

@ If you could’ve, would you have gone for the Rebel 1100 instead of the 500 for your first bike?
