  • If you're new to our channel, we are Matty & Lisa - TheWoodlandNomads.
    We live full time in our van and travel the UK exploring beautiful locations, foraging and learning about the natural world.
    Our van is in for repairs at the moment so we are going to spend the time exploring our local woods while we stay with family.
    We fell very ill a couple weeks ago and realised that our immune systems could do with a boost, so we've decided to forage some natural medicine.
    Come along with us in this video while we harvest two of UKs most medicinal wild mushrooms. We will teach you how identify them and how to make a tea. If you don't particularly like Turmeric, then we recommend that you use far less than a 1/2tsp. You can also add a splash of milk if that's your thing :)
    If you stick around we will be showing you how to make a tincture in our next episode.
    Stay Safe and Be Kind,
    Matty & Lisa x

    REMEMBER - Never eat or consume a mushroom that you aren't 100% certain on.
    This video is simply a guide, we recommend that you have a professional show you these mushrooms in person.
    Feel free to message us if you have any questions :)
    Stay Safe and Be Kind,

    Sorry to hear Lisa hasn't been well, really hope she's on the mend very soon 🤗. This vlog was 'TV ready' - so professional with very interesting subject matter, but much more than that - it was endearing and left your audience wanting to see more (great music segments as usual too 😊). Always look forward to your vlogs - especially at times when we're stuck indoors xx

    Matty and Lisa,
    Thank you for making an informing and inspiring video.
    When in local woods and on the sap wood of seasoning green oak off-cuts down the bottom, damper end of our garden, I see lots of turkey tails in an astonishing variety of banding, colours etc.. I know exactly where to find birch polypores (also good kindling and for dressing small flesh wounds).
    Considering the prodigious and widespread anecdotes and appreciation of the benefits of turkey tail in particular, it is logical to conclude that it has some potency; therefore I have a few questions before I make tea (using either mushroom):
    1. Did you dry the mushrooms because you wanted to demonstrate the process or was it because it is necessary to make good tea?
    2. If it is not necessary and good tea can be made with fresh mushrooms, how does one do that please?
    3. Before drinking an appreciable quantity I would like some knowledge about how much mushroom (dry weight would be the most precise), with what volume of hot water etc.. And, it would be good to have a notional idea of, iff one can drink too much/too frequently, how much is too much or too frequent ?
    4. Can you recommend any particular books about making and using tea, that go into more technical detail than there is time for in a short film already containing lots of info from yourselves?
    Cheers, Adrian

    I really wish I could find some wild Reishi and chaga in the wild. I think Chaga grows in Georgia , but I’m not sure if Reishi even grows here

      We've yet to find Reishi and it did take us a while to find Chaga. We've had the most success with Chaga in birch forests, the bigger the forest the more likely you'll find it ♥ good luck ☺

    Love this. We found Turkey Tail today. I actually came onto UA-cam to find out more about Reishi, because I think we found some, but this video came up, and I am glad it did because I enjoyed it. We found birch polypore yesterday so I will processing them both in my dehydrator tonight. I was intrigued though about tinctures, which is not something I have done before. Did you make that video? I have had a look but can't find it?

    • @TheWoodlandNomad
      @TheWoodlandNomad  2 роки тому

      Yaaaay, well found! It's a staple in Chinese medicine and we think it should be in Western medicine cupboards too ☺
      I'm sorry we didn't have Reishi in this video, we've never ever seen it in the wild and knew that setting out to find it would prove unfruitful. Such an incredibly powerful mushroom though 🍄 💪
      We had full intentions on doing the tincture video but we ended up losing the first half of footage 😢 which meant we couldn't compile it together to share it. Really sorry about that! We will definitely make tincture again though so we'll be sure to share our process one day ♥ luckily UA-cam is a bounty of knowledge and I'm sure somoeone will have the video you seek. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Happy hunting!

    Hello matty, great video, we just collected some turkey tail, it seems a bit old, will it be any good do you know?

    • @TheWoodlandNomad
      @TheWoodlandNomad  Рік тому +1

      You can consume old turkey tail but I'd advise against it because there will likely be algae and all sorts of contaminants on them which could be hard to remove. What you've collected is likely last year's growth. Best keeping you eyes pealed for nice young fresh ones in the summer and autumn in my opinion ☺

    Could you put the the powder into capsules with these two mushrooms or do you need to boil them first-dry-grind then capsule?
    Thanks for the cool channel- enjoy ☮️

    • @TheWoodlandNomad
      @TheWoodlandNomad  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Kev, you could indeed. I would certainly suggest drying and powdering as you'll likely reap more of the benefits as it'd break down in your gut better being smaller particles. Boiling isn't necessary but I know that some people will always boil foraged mushrooms to kill any contaminants that may be present.
      If you're interested we found the elusive Chaga in the end, you can see it in this video ua-cam.com/video/3lavISoMFuM/v-deo.html ☺
