My airflight isn't bad, it's a decent mid range helmet... Noticeably better than other sub $200 helmets I've used, but noticeably worse than $450+ helmets
Seen alot of them. And know people who have them. Owned one but 3 issues for me. Fitment due to head shape but tht was my problem. Too heavy. Too noisy. Plusses. Nice look, great graphics and liner is great. But seems their niche has fallen to the wayside in the last few years. Just a brand for people who want a crazy graphic over a serious quality product.
I actually bought a Strada II Carbon over a RF-1200 after trying them both on in the store. I really liked the fit and comfort. The build quality seems pretty good. If you look up the part number (FF-801) you'll find it's made by LS2 which is probably why. It also looks like it shares its face shield with a couple different LS2 models. I wouldn't be surprised if they released a very similar looking helmet for 2021 ;)
I own myself an Icon Airflite (and a Shoei plus a Simpson Ghost) Quality/price is spot on and I will agree it has its advantages and disadvantages . Overall I like it , it's comfortable for my head , decent sound proof , good aerodynamic and inside fabric liner. I dislike the fact that the iridium visors Don't come in pinlock ready . I understand why you skipped high end brands because it's unfair competition but HJC does good helmets and entry level AGV feel really cheap , almost like knock off. This is just my opinion . Thank you for the video .
I would have picked the Scorpion EXO R420 for the under 200$ mark. That helmet is SNELL2015 cert, EMT cheekpad pulls, quickwick, anti fog treated with a lot of epic colors, all for 160$ Epic helmet.
How the ICON made it in a "best helmet" video is beyond me. And I say that as an owner. The looks of that blue model are absolutely amazing, that's why I got mine in the first place. But that's about the only good thing about that helmet. It's heavy, like considerably heavier than other helmets. The fit is extremely tight, uncomfortably so. Ventilation is allright, at the cost of noise though. If I compare it to my HJC RPHA 11 or my Shoei NXR, ... it's not even remotely a competition. And given the price tag, I cannot recommend getting that ICON if you're planning on making it your primary helmet.
smaller cathedrals the Icon was the People’s Choice pick. It literally sold more than any other helmet in 2019 by a huge margin. Even if it’s not the right helmet for you, there are a lot of folks out there that love it.
Fun fact: the largest growing segment of motorcycles are “traditional”. This includes naked sport bikes and classic retro inspired motorcycles. ADV growth has slowed considerably in 2019 but dirt growth has continued strong. Thus, the biggest tech changes we’ve seen this year have been with dirt helmets. So, we included the Fly Racing helmet which is very much an off-road/dirt helmet. I’m not sure if maybeyou just missed that or didn’t consider that one for ADV use. For a lot of people using ADV bikes and dual sport bikes it either makes more sense to use a street bike or a dirt bike helmet depending on the ride your setting out to tackle. A lot of ADV style helmets offer compromises one way or another. Personally, I prefer using a true dirt bike helmet when riding my 1090 in off-road conditions as they’re lighter, still safety rates for the street, and offer better ventilation. If I’m taking a trip on the road I prefer a street helmet as they’re lighter than an ADV lid, have better aerodynamics, and thus offer less fatigue at highway speeds and are quieter. There are specific situations where I would recommend and ADV style helmet, however, when we were looking at this list there weren’t any significant ADV models introduced this year to justify more of a focus over the picks we’ve made. That being said, if you have your heart set on a ADV helmet, our geeks are happy to walk you through all of the options to find one that matches your intended use and desired price point. Thanks for watching.
@Sir Tristan I wouldn't say well north of 20 grand is cheap for a ES with DCT after everything is said and done . I would take Honda reliability over anything else . There's a reason BMW vehicles lose so much value in 3 4 5 years . The bikes are more reliable but you pay extra for Germaness .
Best helmet of the year...is the one that fits perfectly. In this case my BMW System 7 which is 2 helmets in 1. Chin piece comes off and turns into an open face helmet. However I like the Shoe set up
My favorite helmet is the Shoei Ex-Zero. It has the feeling of an open face helmet but it gives you chin protection and it has a sliding visor. It is very similar to the Bell Motto series. The only con is that is not available for sale in the US, so I had to order from Europe.
Best helmet is HJC Phoenix I found FREE in abandoned apartment. Next best is $5 half shell bought at garage sale. Salemen give BS line that old helmets won't protect as well. 1% less shock absorbing after 10 years isn't so bad I need to spend $500 for a new one. But by all means, be a good consumer.
I have the icon airflight, absolutely loved it until I bought the torc t14 bluetooth helmet. The icon is a full inch bigger all around and noticeably heavier by quite a bit. The airflight has the correct name at least, as it's the size and weight of an astronaut lid.
@gemini232003 Nope I pretty much think in metric these days. Just absolutely hate SAE measurements. Even being born with them they make no damned sense, I don't know why people love a system that's so much harder to use. Also I watch a lot of helmet reviews on YT and most of them are outside the US and use grams, so the easiest way to compare between videos is to convert to grams, rather than converting all the many more review videos to pounds and ounces.
Most definitely not, because they don't carry and never will. Want the verdict? It's an overpriced beta test. Go with literally anything else and you'll be fine. Want the unique look? Go icon.
The EXO-Tech isn't available in the US, so we cannot provide a comparison. However, we do like Scorpion's helmets, and the EXO-Tech is likely a good option. -DrewZilla
A bit skeptical about the Bell as the best helmet ... I loved my MX9 but never found the street lids to be worth the money. Maybe I should check out the new race star to judge for myself. The rpha11 definitely surprised me with comfort close to Arai and Shoei, 803rs was pretty cool too but still felt a bit cheap compared to the very complete and refined x14 in similar price range. For me the pista gp is the least comfortable and most expensive piece of average quality helmet I've ever seen and despite it being so sexy and aesthetic I can't see myself wanting to own one
I loved the Bell as soon as I used it, but what impressed me even further was the amount of people I saw using it at the track this year. It’s a really impressive helmet and the safety technology they’re working on with their Flex liner is truly innovative. Would definitely recommend checking one out if you’re looking for a new lid.
The race star is the safest hands down. If you want a shoei, it'll be quieter and more comfortable for long rides/touring. But I don't regret getting the bell at all.
@@redeyedfreaks yeah personally I have 3 x14 and 2 Arai, 1 AGV. For me I'm the most disappointed at AGV for such a high price tag and really low budget feeling quality and comfort. I love my Shoei helmets, probably the best I've tried and great looking. I really want to check out the new race star, actually a good looking shape similar to the Shoei, admittedly I am a bit of a Shoei Arai slut and Bell has always seemed like a low end budget brand but maybe it's time for me to stop judging by brand 😂
Not exactly it depends on how do you intend to use it. For example if you're into race track then go for the high end ones. If for touring go for lighter and quiter types. If only used for city riding you can go for modular types.
Shopping for a new helmet. Went to local shop and tried on several different brands, models, & styles. They were all like looking through a tube... no peripheral vision, and up/down was also limited. What models have the best field of vision? Any suggestions would be very much appreciate.
You say all but the helmets have Intermediate Oval shape but the Shark. Though the RevZilla and Cycle World sites both show the Icon as long oval? I'd love to get an Icon but being a 3XL size has always been an issue and they are also typically Long Oval so even the few that come in 3XL have no chance of fitting over my head. So is the AirFlite a long oval or intermediate ?
The Airflite is on the cusp of intermediate and long oval. It's not quite as long oval as the Airmada or the longest oval Arai Signet-X, but it isn't quite as wide as most intermediate oval helmets. There's still a chance the Airflite could fit you in 3XL. -DrewZilla *bit.ly/BestHelmets2020

@@RevZilla I knew I could count on you guys for a helpful suggestion. Thank you so much! 😍 Also.. I ride naked/street bikes. So mostly upright posture. It'll be good yea? 😊
Damn you asked that question 3 months ago and they didn't even bother answering! I'd like to know the same as I like the ruroc atlas 2.0 my self since it comes with Bluetooth speaker system built in. Don't understand how it's not even mentioned.
I must add. It is so disappointing that the bell race star dlx helmet does not come with the protint visor in Australia. Found this out the hard way after spending $1000 aud on it
You may want to reach out to your retailer or confirm that you did indeed buy the DLX version. As far as we are aware from Bell, DLX primarily means that the helmet comes with the upgraded ProTint shield. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Gear Geeks in customer service! - Pat
Aerodynamics is your biggest enemy, as the peak visor on a dirt helmet just turns into a sail while riding on the highway. There is also an argument to be made for safety, as a dirt crash and a street/highway crash are two very different types. Not saying a dirt helmet is less safe, but by design it has a lot more angles/corners that can catch in a long asphalt slide and make you start tumbling which is the enemy to any road accident. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Gear Geeks at cs@revzilla.com or 877.792.9455. Ride safe, -Pat
I really liked Shark with the lights (sorry forget the model) but was really disappointed with the poor light switch quality which broke even after careful use.
I'm gonna make a helmet in my garage and get it DOT certified just so these guys can feature it "...and it comes DOT rated in both the open and closed positions..."
K4 K thank you. It’s that I’ve seen several reviews on UA-cam and I decided to purchase. The problem is, since I’m not a UA-camr, the helmet is supposed to be shipped to me only on April 30th. That’s too long since the release was on February 27th. And that was the day I bought it. I’m asking for a refund. My friend, is there a helmet you would recommend. I live in hot weather all year long, so I need a lightweight and an incredibly ventilated helmet.
@@chrisbarretto10 It's hard for me to recommend anything without knowing some key aspects about you, like your head shape and riding preferences. I ride a sport bike and my preference is usually a full face helmet. I tend to stay away from anything with a drop down visor because of the dynamic change to the safety of the helmet. I don't need a drop down when I can just buy a dark smoke or mirrored shield. I'm not a fan of modulars, for similar reasons. Plus they tend to be noisy, not unless you go for a more high end modular, like a Shoei Neotec II. The AGV Carbon Sport Modular is also nice, being a SUPER lightweight modular. Also, one of the big red flags on the Ruroc's for me was the fasteners for the shield. Reminds me of the Sedici Strada which has wide screws to hold the shield on, but they can sometimes come loose and fall off while riding, resulting in your shield coming off, not fun at all. And that should say a lot coming from me, it's a Cycle Gear brand and I work at a CG. I currently ride an Icon Airmada. It's not the best on the market, by any means, but it fits my needs. It can be a bit windy in it, I think it's just because my head shape doesn't quite fit it, so it leaves gaps near my ears that allow air to get up there. The ventilation is good though. But there are a lot of good helmets out there, really. Shoei, AGV, Arai, HJC, Bell, they all make great helmets but it's mostly about fitting one for your headshape. Shoei RF1200's are top in the market but that also has to do with the fact that it's an intermediate oval and like 90% of the headshapes in the US are that shape. If you're in that smaller percentage group, it might not be a great fit for you.
According to your website, the Airflite is a long oval. I'm a little bit interested because the intermediate oval of my Shoei seems a bit short front to back. They are easily available in dealerships. Trying to find an Arai Signet X to try on is almost impossible. A local dealership carries the Quantum?
Before deciding on your next helmet, I encourage you to measure around the crown of your head, as it could be that your 4XL helmet just isn't the right internal shape to match your own head shape. Generally 4XL equates to 67-68cm. If your crown is indeed that size, then I recommend the Scorpion EXO-R420, as it's lightweight and aerodynamic. If your head actually measures 66cm or smaller, then there are a lot more options in 3XL. Also keep in mind that if a helmet fits well around the crown but is too tight in the cheeks, you can often buy thinner cheek pads rather than getting a bigger helmet size. -DrewZilla *bit.ly/Scorpion_EXO-R420_bh20 *bit.ly/3XL_Helmets_bh20
I don’t have biggest head I know! A kid I knew made mine look small. I like to see him as adult now. Last I heard he was rich, in the billboard advertising. I wonder if that is “portable”billboards? Ouch. Ok I quit. I can talk as mine is large though. Hehehe
Tire Guide is coming soon. Also, tire manufacturers don't really make tires for taking cruisers off-road, as cruisers have low ground clearance, short suspension travel, and are intended for road riding. -DrewZilla
the fact Icon Airflight made in a "best helmets" kind of video instantly makes it laughable. This helmet is very loud, not very ventilated, overpriced and overall bad choice. Unless, you desperately need to stand out while sacrificing comfort in a process.
I went from a bell qualifier dlx to Airflite. For me Icon's XXXL is small compared to Bell's XXL and the air flow isn't as good. I think there is a bit of extra wind noise coming off the spoiler, but between generally riding with a windshield and the volume of my exhaust I haven't been bothered by it. It's definitely not uncomfortable outside being on the small side and while airflow is definitely worse, I've never gotten hot in it even in 90+ degree weather. They picked it for the list because it was their most popular seller and because they liked. My other riding buddy owns one and he seems even more in love with his than I am so (ignoring any egregious safety/quality concerns I may have missed with Icon) it seems like a fine option if sacrificing a bit of airflow for styling. I imagine if it was that bad compared to what else is out there everyone wouldn't be buying it and it wouldn't have such high reviews on their site.
@@IRLtrolls Your Shoei is also almost double the Icon's msrp. I'd hope it would better overall for the extra dough. Maybe it's just my fitment keeping airflow down.
I own that Icon helmet. And I agree with everything the op said. I got it for it looks, that's it. It's uncomfortable, mainly because it's considerably heavier than my other helmets. These being an HJC RPHA 11, which I love, and an Shoei NXR, which is my favorite.
ivan petrov if you take out the inner visor it will allow way more air from the top vents but you sacrifice the visor for it. I never use mine so it doesn’t bother me.

I love my icon airflite. Matt black, blue visor, customized vinyl carbon fiber side panel covers
for me the best of the year is the exo r1 carbon, best bang for the $
Since I’ve been riding I’ve yet to see a person using an icon helmet.
I've seen one, technically. Guy was buying an Icon at the dealership. He was also buying his first motorcycle, a ZX6R.
My airflight isn't bad, it's a decent mid range helmet... Noticeably better than other sub $200 helmets I've used, but noticeably worse than $450+ helmets
I have a icon 1000 variant hard luck, saved my head in a major head on collision great stuff
Had one, won't buy another one, not rly happy with quality, switching to suomy
I wouldn't be surprised if they released a very similar looking helmet for 2021 ;)
Love my Shoei RF1200. Had it for 4 years.
Great job, guys. I'd like to see a similar best review of touring helmets towards the idea of Harley touring bike riding.
I would have picked the Scorpion EXO R420 for the under 200$ mark. That helmet is SNELL2015 cert, EMT cheekpad pulls, quickwick, anti fog treated with a lot of epic colors, all for 160$
Epic helmet.
I love my scorpion r420. Very comfortable to. You nailed it buddy.
The EXO-R420 is featured in our upcoming "Beginner" guide, so you're not wrong to choose it! -DrewZilla
For those of us with round noggins, Arai Quantum-X. Wish my head fit Shoei though!
Scorpion Exo R1 Air. It’s unbelievable.
Even if it’s not the right helmet for you, there are a lot of folks out there that love it.
man, that AGV is sweet looking
I love choosing a helmet.
You can buy the cheaper but still good quality Shark modular counterpart which is the LS2 Valiant.
way to heavy
Shoei RF1200 and Arai Corsair X for me only.
I have an old(1997) shoei rfr, still wear it and love it
What are those helmet wall mounts and where can I buy one?
Hjc rpha 70 +rpha11 for me is the best helmet!
Definitely icon airflite 😜🤘
Tell me again, what is the largest growing segment? No ADV/offroad entry? Ok
Bell mx9 mips

Every Africa Twin vanishes at both dealerships I go to . They have some Versys but that's it .
My thoughts exactly .
I don't understand. They said all of the helmets except the modular were going to be intermediate ovals. The Icon Airflite they linked is a long oval.
Best helmet of the year...is the one that fits perfectly. In this case my BMW System 7 which is 2 helmets in 1. Chin piece comes off and turns into an open face helmet. However I like the Shoe set up
Nice info guys
I was about to buy a new helmet and received a notification from the best in business. Thank you guys♥️♥️♥️ #Revfam
Bravo! Revzilla at its' finest.
My favorite helmet is the Shoei Ex-Zero. It has the feeling of an open face helmet but it gives you chin protection and it has a sliding visor. It is very similar to the Bell Motto series. The only con is that is not available for sale in the US, so I had to order from Europe.
Keep it up guys keep it professional
Best helmet is HJC Phoenix I found FREE in abandoned apartment. Next best is $5 half shell bought at garage sale. Salemen give BS line that old helmets won't protect as well. 1% less shock absorbing after 10 years isn't so bad I need to spend $500 for a new one. But by all means, be a good consumer.
That icon helmet looks like cobra commander's helmet...
That was definitely a design inspiration for ICON. -DrewZilla
I have the icon airflight, absolutely loved it until I bought the torc t14 bluetooth helmet. The icon is a full inch bigger all around and noticeably heavier by quite a bit. The airflight has the correct name at least, as it's the size and weight of an astronaut lid.
It’s ugly as hell in my opinion
Have to convert all those weights to grams before I can figure out whether that's light or heavy.
@gemini232003 Yes, I was born and raised here. In fact I've never been outside the US.
Could you guys do a review of the Ruroc Atlas 2.0?
Most definitely not, because they don't carry and never will. Want the verdict? It's an overpriced beta test. Go with literally anything else and you'll be fine. Want the unique look? Go icon.

So if a helmet I’ve been eyeing on is not on the list, would it be a bad choice to buy it?🤔
Not exactly it depends on how do you intend to use it.
What about noise reduction capabilities for the touring side of the house? Of the above mentioned lids...which is better?
Shoei fan boy for 3 decades!
-DrewZilla

The only downside with the icon air flight is the wight I wish it was carbon or tri-composite as I feel like its a bit too heavy for long rides
I don’t take a chance with my head, shoei or Arai .
I am an avid Shoei wearer but I would personally only look at the brands worn by professional track riders
Bea Plum yeah and I’m sure Shoei, Arai and AGV are well aware of that. There’s a reason their gear is covered in logos! Lol
Bea Plum btw I’m not hating, I have an Arai Signet X

Any disadvantage using a dirt bike helmet like the one in this vid for street and highway use on a sports bike?

Love the website, the videos and the reviews. One question: what do you guys think about the new Ruroc Atlas 2.0?
There are plenty of vids about it out now to makeup for it. Its not great
Sickling3 Most videos on UA-cam are praising how good it is. What do you think?
Didn't look all that great and that company is still fairly new to the motorcycle market. I don't feel like testing their helmets...
Fast forward 1yr.... can't find the Shoei Neotec2 Respect model ANYWHERE !!!
That Sedici you are holding that you said is $200 is listed on your web site for $269.99. In went up in price 35% in 2 years?
For me would be the ruroc atlas 2.0
It looks like the bell helmet doesn't have a pinlock visor. I like the idea of it tinting, but not if it means that I can't have a pinlock.
There's a separate clear visor that has the pinlock posts available. I'd rather run the transitions shield and use an anti fog spray when I need it.
Nice. Glad I got my Bell star. Best helmet I’ve had. Well worth the investment. Don’t forget it’s Snell rated too!
I’ve got a 4X size helmet. It weighs a ton a catches wind like a billboard. My head is big egg shape kinda. What’s best? Iron kettle?
-DrewZilla

I pick BELL AND ICON
What do y'all think of the icon airframe for 2020?
If you are a long oval head and like the looks go for it. Otherwise there are some better options.
Geronimo mirrors my thoughts. It's a great option for a long-ish oval head shape. -DrewZilla
the fact Icon Airflight made in a "best helmets" kind of video instantly makes it laughable.
