    Why have some societies failed to treat women and men the same?

    • @KAIZORIANEMPIRE
      @KAIZORIANEMPIRE 4 роки тому +1

      Men and women are not equal. We can't treat people the same because we would be undue burden to people that aren't as equipped in a particular aspect. Men can't have children (birth) and women in general can't build houses as effectively as men due to physical impedence

    This is so disturbing. 3 year olds and women who are covered up are being raped. Why are we giving excuses and allowing men to act the way they do?
    Why give him permission to rape any woman/girl who walks around wearing what they want to wear? Gosh!!!
    This is troubling. We have a long way to go as Africans.

  • @linalesia5188

    Our forefathers were not rapists despite women then wearing barely anything. This emphasis on women modesty only highlights lack of self control on men. The problem is with men, not women in this situation.

    Hi. My name is Clive Sibanda from Zimbabwe. l'm new to this amazing channel and l'm really enjoying it. l'm really surprised to see that we're having the same debates here in Southern Africa as you discuss in most of your shows. This proves that we are one people with a common agenda. l also feel like the solution to our social problems will be to come together and reflect on our cultures and see if we can develop and modernize them so that every member of the society feel included and respected. Now most people in Africa are starting to question the European culture that we follow because it has caused more harm than good

    This is sad. So basically the Ugandan government has insulted the Ugandan men by sending the message that men are such savage beast in their thoughts and actions. Therfore men can not control themselves when it comes to the Ugandan woman. Wherefore Ugandan, women cover up and protect yourself from men. This is quite disturbing. How about having stiff laws for men and women who commit sexual offenses period. If the African forefathers ( and mothes)saw their woman /men and small children with LESS attire and did NOT commit these crimes, Whats wrong with human beings of today.. What a shame.

    I love your moderation of the debate Edith Kimani. The debate is quite eye-opening to the reality of things. I think that the point of feminism should be to fight against unfair, assultive and irrational behaviour by men towards women. God loves us equally and he made us different and even differently in a way that our our difference bridges the gap in making humanity whole. The agenda that we should be equal needs to be very clear in what that equality is about. I mean, equal in what way? In terms of same payment for same amount or quality of work done by man and woman, I believe that this should not even be an issue to discuss. The pay should be equal. The ones paying women les have a problem! Every one should be treated with utmost respect, no matter who they are.

    • @DWThe77Percent
      @DWThe77Percent  5 років тому +2

      Thank you very much, John. I think you're right in every aspect. The pay should be equal indeed. But the question is; why is it even a debate that women should be treated fairly like their men counterparts? What's missing in the first place?

Her reason was 'I.m not happy'. But we started off with her being unemplyed for a few years while I took care of everything. Thats my experience with gender equality. I think what is needed is not a situation in the west(where in the name of personal "freedom" women have ultimately pursued themselves first and the community second) but of course not a place as potentially backwards as Uganda and the middle east. We would need more time and more people to dig into this, esp from different nations across Africa with different views. Some people might feel offended, some are already convinced but what we want as a people is to mould ourselves into the world we want to live in 10, 15, 50 years from now. Everyone is basing their ideology from somewhere, some are saying Western culture, some saying African culture and all sorts. I trust that everyone has done background checks on all those, projected the future and is currently studying the current trend. What the systems have taught the other person is different from the other raised in the other system because both have been raised in different environments. Bringing it home to Africa were we have this problem we are addressing we have to come with a solution. You do realize it is mostly men making these arguments.
      It is the same ignorance from many/most men towards their problematic relationship with women as many/most Europeans have towards their problematic relationship with Africans:
      Both have not felt the pain because of their priviliged position, both are profiting from systematic exploitation and both are not listening, instead behaving paternalistic, which is why both are NOT able to empathize.
