  • Over 3,500 Gambians voluntarily returned home early this year, according to a report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Under a joint venture with The Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in the Gambia, the returnees have been helped to reintegrate into society. Over 70 percent of these individuals returned from Libya and another 25 percent came back home from Niger. The remaining 5 percent came from Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, and Tunisia. The returnees, however, face many challenges. Edith Kimani meets with young returnees and members of the International Organization for Migration in The Gambia to find out how best they can re-adjust to life back home.

      1. Families need to be educated not to look at returnees as failures.
      2. Families and society need to stop forcing the youth to go to the west by any means
      2. Those who are successful in Europe or america should organize and create platforms to assist the returnees because they made em believe that the west is paradise.
      3. The youth need be aware of its responsibility, get proper training and get into entrepreneurship
      4. The youth shouldn't expect much from the government, they are part of the problem.

      DW Africa; the guy in the red shirt said it well. Where is the donor billions and tax payer money going??? Fattening the President; paying for chartered flights; paying for mansions; paying off religious leaders to lie to their people that Barrow is the chosen one; funding the Barrow Thug Movement cum the Barrow Youth Movement; buying water cannons to threaten the people and so on and so on. Meanwhile the youth are more desperate so more are leaving or planning to leave; hospitals are deplorable; students sit on bare floors in schools; newly born babies share hospital beds and the new moms sleep on hospital floors and so on and so on. Shame on Barrow and shame on all African leaders who have such evil and greedy hearts to watch their people suffer whilst they steal what belongs to those people.

    It's sad to see the Gambians taking the huge risk to go to Europe illegally and then end up on the tomato farms in Southern Europe being exploited or selling drugs in the parks in Berlin as their only income.

    • @annas4843
      @annas4843 3 роки тому +11

      As you said: huge risk. When you take risk you might benefit or loose, why does that surprise you?
      Europe has unemployment, a lot of poor people, shortage in housing, but somehow the people who are not invited but cross illegally expect to get everything immediately while many Europeans don’t even have these stuff for granted despite working for decades.

    • @dissdad8744
      @dissdad8744 3 роки тому +3

      @@annas4843 They get "everything immediately" when entering Europe illegally? What country in Europe would that be? As far as I can see they rot in asylum camps or work illegally for less than minimum wage in odd jobs, with many eventually being flown back to their country of origin.

    • @dissdad8744
      @dissdad8744 2 роки тому +2

      @Tracchofyre No, many only get temporary "Duldung" status (means they are tolerated, but but not accepted by the state). They are not allowed to work and compete with Germans on the German job market. It's different for those with recognised asylum status: they get integration benefits and lots of extra services (language courses, free access to university and so on). But that was mostly limited to the Syrians. Almost no Gambian can receive these benefits since they are not recognised as refugees / asylum seekers. Most Gambians rot in the parks in Berlin and try to sell drugs or play football with nothing else to do, until they get eventually get repatriated by the Bundespolizei after some months.

    • @dissdad8744
      @dissdad8744 2 роки тому

      @Tracchofyre Vollkommen falsch, du bringst leider einiges durcheinander. Kann nicht auf jedes Detail eingehen. Fakt ist aber: die Leute aus Gambia haben fast keine Chance einen dauerhaften Aufenthaltsstatus oder eine Asylanerkennung zu bekommen. Die meisten werden nach Italien, Spanien (Erstland in der EU) oder gar nach Afrika abgeschoben. Wie du vielleicht merkst: ich bin Deutscher.
      There is a huge difference between being recognised with refugee status and being only temporarily tolerated. For example: I've seen many Syrians receiving a lot of extra benefits and attention the Gambians don't enjoy, such as easier access to university education under specialised programs (not your regular study loans), extra Arabic-German language training. A lot of effort has been made with focus on the Syrians exclusively, while the Gambians and other Africans are not receiving a lot of benefits.
      I'm Afro-German and know the African immigrant community well, even though I'm not an immigrant myself and have no Gambian or West African roots, but I see these guys all the time on the streets in Berlin-Kreuzberg and various parks in Berlin and have chatted with them from time to time.

The government is focused on designing exorbitant monthly meal budget of 2 million dalasis to fatten a useless leader whilst the sons and daughters of the soil suffer. It’s about time we hold our leaders accountable; create jobs for our youth; stop the useless trips abroad at the expense of your people; stop focusing on building mansions for yourselves at the expense of your people whilst they suffer. And most importantly, we the people must wake up and choose leaders who care about us. Our leaders have failed us; please let us stop failing ourselves and our children.

    Solutions: 1. Fight against corruption and and misuse of public fund( The President is said to have spent D35million on private charted flight to attend last year UN meeting). With that money not only all returnees can start something for themselves but many other unemployed youths. 2. Change of mind set. Yes Gambia is not easy but the solution is not coming to Europe. Some coming are desperate. But many others abandoned their studies and don't want to do something in Gambia because they have brothers here in Europe sponsoring them and refuse to study o do business at a time when our main business sector is dominated by foreigners. 3. Invest in agriculture. We import, if I don't forget 2.5billion of rice anually when we have flat arable land and a river that runs across the country. 4. Gambians in Europe STOP sending money to your brothers to come to Libya. Send them money to engage in productive ventures back home. How many of the youths who came through Italy are roaming the streets of Europe. Government need to do its part to stop corruption and citizens a change of mind set.

How is your government poor when your taxpayers are paying 2 million dalasis a month for food to fatten your president? As an Englishman living in Sukuta I have the right to an opinion.... TG is the 12th poorest country on earth. If the West and EU wants to solve the problem, it needs to improve the people's lives in the countries they come from. African governments are usually corrupt and the politicians self serving and only interested in self enrichment. I'm not saying the West needs to re-colonise Africa but things can't be left as they are. I believe there is plenty of money and resources in the world to share everything fairly..... The shitty unfair world our politicians have created must be changed. I love the Gambia and care passionately about its long suffering people....

In order to survived, the only alternative is to combine, if not African countries within Africa will always fail, these borders were created to ensure growth failure and ensure dependency to the West. The citizens needs to come together in the mean time and create jobs such as in agriculture, use what you have, the land, the youth, today you can go to utube and finds ways to make almost anything, such as sustainable houses, solar energy etc, there must be leaders in these youth groups that can come up with projects, make a plan, and lobby the government for funding or use the power of the internet to create go fund me.

    Young Gambians over 60 percent of the population in dire need. Every time 'international organizations' was mentioned as a solution is enough to make one cringe. Before NATO forces did the bidding of Obama to destroy Libya, Libya was once a reliable source to help Africans. Reactionary Libyans who overthrew the government were against the assistance given to African migrants.

    Berlin. Five policemen were injured on Tuesday evening in a job in Kreuzberg. The officials had been called around 21 clock to Café Kotti on the Adalbertstraße, because there, a suspected drug dealer refused despite house prohibition to leave the café.
    The 34-year-old from Gambia was then accompanied by the police from the café and was issued a dismissal. When the man tried to go back to the café again and again, an officer grabbed the 34-year-old's arm to stop him. At that moment, the rioters pulled a knife out of his pocket, according to the forces, threatening the police.
    Man grabbed the service weapon of a policeman
    When the officers tried to overpower the attacker and also used irritant gas, the man suddenly grabbed the police and found the service weapon of an officer in his holster. In the scramble, a police dog bite the 34-year-old in the arm so that he let go of the policeman's gun and the officers could arrest him.
    During the operation, dozens of people gathered and began throwing bottles, fruit and cans at the police. No one was hit. However, five officers were injured in the operation and could not continue their service. The 34-year-old suspect was taken to the psychiatric department of a hospital. The police are now investigating, among other things, resistance to law enforcement officers and assault.

Anytime the primary employer of a country is the government it's a resource colony, Anytime people talk about the economy of Gambia they go straight to the tourism industry instead of creating finished goods and becoming self sufficient country because any country that isn't self sufficient is colonized. Gambia isn't suffering from neo colonialism from France, Gambia is suffering from a colonial mentality. French speaking Africa is still economically colonized by France and South Africa and Namibia are still physically colonized by Europeans, this is just the reality.

    From what I observe about Africa in a whole is that , the youths are suffering from the residual effects of the choices of the politicians (corrupt politicians from the present and the past) now , the youths are paying the price . Extreme poverty is creating prostitution. The youths are trying to migrate and end up in slavery and terrible situations. . I did not like when that reporter shout that man down for telling the truth. Again that is a problem. If she care so much about this issue. Stand up as a African woman. I don’t like her. She is all about herself and her job. Stop asking those people question like you care. she is just looking for a good story. Nothing get solved if you are censoring the real issues.

    Thanks to a hitherto unknown man, a raid on a bakery in Ober-Roden failed. On Monday morning, around 6 o'clock, a woman of about 50 entered the bakery on Frankfurter Strasse.
    She held a thick branch in her hand. The woman then asked the cashier to hand over her money. When this did not meet the demand, the perpetrator once struck with the brought branch on the employee. Fortunately, at that time, a 40 to 50 year old and 1.70 to 1.80 meter tall man with graying hair in orange construction workers clothes came into the shop, overpowered the robber from behind and brought her to the door. Outside, the woman then managed to escape in the direction of Ober-Roden.
    She should be about 1.60 meters tall, have worn black frizzy shoulder-length hair and probably have been of black African descent. She was dressed in a cardigan, a soiled pajama pants and white slippers. The cashier suffered a hip bruise from the beating.
