I have been an IT guy for like 20 years now. Nothing sucks quite as much as getting "quality" gear and not having it work well, or work at all. So frustrating, I feel your pain mate!
@@LiveType Because the whole consumer trend for the past 10 years has been "quiet" products, so everything started becoming a passive product. When high end equipment like routers, modems, TV's, switches or really anything expensive and electronic, generates a lot of heat. But for some reason, the quiet consumer market wants them to be quiet, so manufacturers just don't put fans on at all, or put really bad/slow fans. I bought a $600 router, and I swear that thing would melt itself if I didn't put a fan over it. I hate people who want quiet products now, i really do. They've ruined a lot of things. Even computer power supplies have started coming with "quiet" or "passive" fans on them, because of this shit.
Yea and with that experience, there's no quality in Logitech, Razer or Corsair (Elgato) gaming stuff. It's just expensive because they can pull it off with the brand. Same devices from random cheaper marketplaces can be had at 80% less because that's what they cost to make and ship in reality. The only HDMI capture devices I've not seen die from random stuff are currently from Atmos and Avid and that's starting at a grand and 3 grand each respectively.
Apple... Tesla... Microsoft... You know what? You're absolutely right! The biggest companies DO always make the worst crap! Well, technically everything they sell is either old, outdated, or stolen technology anyway. Apple takes tech from 4+ years ago, pays Samsung to make a screen for it, and says they have the newest and greatest thing ever. Tesla throws a bunch of Panasonic batteries in a car and puts it in a tunnel in Vegas. Microsoft steals ideas and code from Xerox and other companies and calls it their own. I guess being honest really doesn't pay afterall.
@@eric_d I would have switched to linux when I built my new PC if I could be F'd with VMs. I was so sick of MS and being a gamer is pretty much the only thing that stopped me from using linux instead. Probably would have been worth to at least try it first before getting W11 because it's pretty freaking stinky.
@@angrycapsicum6027 I still have several computers running Windbloze 10 (although 1 less since I upgraded one to Linux the other day). I _REFUSE_ to even try Windows 11. Ever since the release of Windows 95 it's been a widely known fact that every OTHER (as in odds vs evens, if that makes more sense) version is just a completely horrible waste of everyones time and money. Windows ME, worst thing ever, XP wasn't horrible. Vista? second worst thing ever, Windows 7, usable. Windows 8? Why did they even bother trying? Windows 10, actually pretty decent. I know I skipped a few versions there, but you get the point. I've heard nothing but bad reviews on 11 since before it was even released, and I know better than to waste any time at all even trying it. Will Windoze 12 be any better? Based on the consistant pattern that's been going on for 28 years, it SHOULD be, but more and more people are switching over to Linux every day, and it may be too late by the time Winderz 12 comes out. I'm not actually much of a gamer myself, but I do know Linux gaming support has been growing very fast the last few years. It's definitely worth trying out. You CAN set it up in a VM if you want, or just get a bootable live distribution and boot it from a thumb drive to check it out.
@@eric_d windows 7 was basically just windows vista under the hood, right down the the aesthetics. it was just fine tuned, which it desperately needed. only reason Vista "blew" performance-wise was because MS didn't make a lite version of it for all the cheapo pre-built machines (dell, hp, etc) that your granny bought. Vista ran fine if your machine could support it, same with ME. MS just didn't factor in that the average consumer wouldn't be buying a workstation to use MS word and solitaire lmao. LGR did a great vid on ME where he goes over that one particular flaw; people remember things as worse than they actually were
@@neonhalos A friend of mine was given a copy of Vista from his school when it came out. He had the best of the best of the best of everything you could buy in his system at the time. Custom water cooled before they even made kits to do it yourself. I was at his house the day he tried installing Vista. It bluescreened on him like 30 times (after more than a dozen attempts to install it) and he threw the disc in the trash where it belonged. Vista was crap in every way. If you had it working "properly" then you were one of the lucky few. It was never stable on any hardware I've seen it run on, regardless of the hardware quality. I never even mentioned performance, because I've never seen it run long enough without crashing to even run benchmarks on it!
I think not plugging your own channels all the time is the right choice. Some channels end up spending like 30 seconds to a minute every video plugging stuff. It gets old. But part of your style is, you jump into a video, you do the thing, you shoutout your supporters and we oggle Frank like stalkers. It's simple, effective and awesome! I never need to skip past all the same plugs that other content producers put in every, single, video.

11:57 As a technician in a TV studio, I feel this video in my soul. Far too much of the multiple-thousands-of-pounds 'professional' video gear I work with is about as reliable as this stuff is.
At 9:22 the issue you're having with the still frame is caused by windows usb power saving options cutting the power to the usb from high power use usb things. That's a default windows feature but it can be turned off! Turn that off and all your problems should go away. Look up how to do it on google (how to turn off usb power saving modes) Love the videos! hope this helps because after I did that my Elgato capture cards have been amazing!
The smell of that Bluetti power supply may be due to the type of plastic it was made with. For example, one of the fountain pens I own (I'm an nerd I know) has an odd smell near the ink reservior, almost like moldy cheese. Doing some research, I learned that vegetal-resin is likely the cause of that smell. That doesn't mean the plastic is cheap, it's just a problem with that type of plastic. Edit: Be sure of what plastic you're dealing with, and NEVER use alcohol on Vegetal resin, as it will literally fall apart.
Thanks for the info. And for my own contribution, a punctured skin on an otherwise undamaged lithium boi will continuously offgas. My phone smelled like burning battery for a month because of that.
8:28 In terms of setting up cameras and lights, what you want for your foot-cam is to set up a brighter light further away so that your camera doesn’t have to battle exposure because of your foots close proximity to the light (Inverse Square Law). Any camera will likely do that, even much more expensive ones! Stick a light further away that’s brighter and that’ll solve the exposure inconsistencies immediately :)
For the razer kiyo you need more light because low light = bad Edit: i think its also because its dark in the room and it tries to make it lighter by having lower shutter speed
You need to disable exposure compensation to get 60fps on most webcams. You can adjust this under camera privacy settings on Windows 11 or usually with the included software.

and that drum guy too... I can´t believe I frequently watched 3 of this guy´s channels without my brain ever realizing that the voice is identical and that it´s in fact the same person
Regarding the cameras, I found that in obs opening the camera settings and turning off the auto night adjustment/auto dark adjustment instantly fixed the low frame rate on my webcam
I know that you don't like making these types of videos, however, these are the types of videos I love watching. It's super helpful for people like myself who are also (ironically enough) interested in the practical experience and application of these technical items. It's easy to find positive reviews or negative reviews for an item but it's super hard to find practical information about these types of items.
Uh, this is so relatable. Did some video work around 10-15 years ago, constant issues with wireless microphones, PCM recorders, cameras, frame grabbers and stuff (and all that gear cost like thousands of dollars in total). Streaming is especially terrible, it always felt like a miracle that it works and was not freezing, blacking out, crashing, or de-syncing. My worst issue was with Olympus LS-11 PCM recorder, it sometimes started to insert half-a-second of noise every ~30 seconds on the recording, without any indication (so, no noise on the monitor headphones or the live levels), it was really insidious. So, yeah, the only thing that actually works is to do N+1 or even N+2 redundancy everywhere during recording and don't have any single point of failure for each of streams (video or audio).
With most webcams (including the Kiyo) the framerate is affected by the auto exposure. You can use OBS (or whatever) to adjust the settings and reduce the exposure which will make the motion smoother at the cost of looking darker. The Kiyo is absolutely capable of decent 720p60 under the right conditions.
Or you could just use a larger sensor, iso and not have auto shutter speed which is what webcams should be doing! Idk what all these webcam manufacturers are doing but its so stupid cause they all stink for hundreds of dollars. I built my own out of a raspberry pi zero w and a raspberry pi hq camera module for like 75usd and it absolutely thrashes any other webcam that isn't a straight DSLR with a capture card. 1080p 30 but it's a constant 30 and it even works well in dim conditions.
You don't need OBS to do this, there's a button for it in Razer Synapse, but opening the Configure Video (or Windows Properties) for the device allows you to disable Low Light Compensation for any webcam that exposes it via a UVC config. This will drastically change how well something is captured, and for some low-spec cameras it was mandatory if you didn't want 18fps. I use a kiyo myself, I have provided test footage; ua-cam.com/video/dqPiuIXRd_s/v-deo.html
The trick with the Kiyo is not only going down to 720p, but also turning auto exposure off and cranking it down in the "Configure Video" menu in OBS in the Device Properties. If the exposure is set above -10 (towards 0), it starts getting choppier and choppier.
In theory that should do it, but I learned the hard way that the Mac version of OBS doesn't have the "Configure Video" menu, and I'm pretty sure Dank is using a Mac to run the streams.
When I first started making little UA-cam videos, I used a PC with Windows XP and captured footage from a 2005 Labtec webcam directly into Windows Movie Maker. I find it utterly baffling that a brand new webcam bought today looks just as terrible as that did 10 years ago!
I have some experience with capture cards. The DJI 4 port internal PCIe card is AWESOME. It works every time and never dies out. it's a much cleaner option than a bunch of dongles.
I was actual totally surprised when one of you Drum Thing videos was recommended to me. "I don't watch stuff involving drums. But hey it has some decent views." Then I head your screaming and loved it.

Somewhat comforting to see someone else who can be so excited about doing something, take care into trying to do it right, and the things just never do their thingy things correctly. I feel like nothing ever works right for me, I see people get the same stuff and do the same things with it and it works fine, but just.. nah, not for me. Everything's gotta be a trouble in some way
Something I've learned from taking apart and salvaging electronics is that sometimes people just straight up lie about the downsides of products. I'm not talking sponsored influencers lieing I'm talking just the people who buy the products pay so much for it that they cannot afford to try anything else so they lie about how good it is if anyone asks.

About the camera thing- pretty much any modern Canon DSLR/Mirrorless can be plugged straight into a computer via whatever USB port it has and used as a webcam and outputs high quality video. I use an EOS 7D (14 year-old DSLR) as a webcam and it's literally just plug and play Would highly recommend

You may have figured this out already, but the smell from your portable battery is likely due to it degassing. That's usually a sign that the cell is going bad and will fail soon, though it can also mean that they type of battery you're using generates hydrogen sulfide as a byproduct of charging. Either way, yeah, NOT HEALTHY AT ALL.

I've never had good luck with usb capture cards. At work I manage IT for the 'TV studio' and we've basically tried thru every possible capture device. The PCIE based Magewell cards have been the most reliable capture device. Still, even with that we have the occasional issue with HDMI capture that needs a reset of the signal in the magewell driver panel(maybe once or twice a month), SDI works perfectly though, 400 days uptime with no issues. As for webcams, the Logitech Brio 4k has been our go-to for good quality.
I have a gopro hero 10 black myself and here’s a few tips: 1. If the rear screen glitches out take the bat-tree out and put it back in 2. Theres 2 ways you can turn the gopro on, holding the side mode/power button or pressing the top button with Quik capture enabled 3. If by “glitching out” you mean the screen just turning off when the camera is recording without touch input, that’s just the gopro saving power 4. Make sure you have a super fast micro sd card for optimal performance (I run a 256gb lexar 1066x no problem) + for more run time you can use an external power source or the gopro enduro battery I hope you see this as useful information for your gopro issues, if you have any more questions I can try to help you with them.

Seeing your D-link's performance I'm glad I went with Asus when I was upgrading my whole Wifi network last month. It works great. I mainly chose it over D-link and TP-Link because the Asus "AI" mesh feature can work with just multiple routers and not dedicated access points, as opposed to the other two companies. Where I live dedicated access points cost almost as much as routers, but they have only one or zero LAN ports. And routers have four ports and have better or at least moveable antennas, so they are better even if you want them as access points only.
The TP Link Decos have worked pretty well for our house for around two years now. The only issue I have is with the app sometimes and device recognition, but they work very seamlessly.
@Expl0sive the fact the he has more than a million people who watch his content. This man acidently started a ipod desert because he didn't realize that being a bigger channel causes a surge of interest in hobbys that he into. And he admits that in one of his vids. I switched to an Asus modem/router after trying almost every other brand there is and struggling to ever get 6 months out of them before they would drop the connection constantly or the wifi would stop working.

"The biggest companies always make the worst crap."
Apple...

@@angrycapsicum6027 I still have several computers running Windbloze 10 (although 1 less since I upgraded one to Linux the other day). I _REFUSE_ to even try Windows 11. Windows ME, worst thing ever, XP wasn't horrible. Vista? second worst thing ever, Windows 7, usable. Windows 8? Why did they even bother trying? Windows 10, actually pretty decent. I know I skipped a few versions there, but you get the point.

This man terrifies tech. They've all heard what he's done to the nuggets and headphones.
With most webcams (including the Kiyo) the framerate is affected by the auto exposure. You can use OBS (or whatever) to adjust the settings and reduce the exposure which will make the motion smoother at the cost of looking darker. The Kiyo is absolutely capable of decent 720p60 under the right conditions.
absolutely this
doubt
Thanks for the FYI Good 2 know 👍
Or you could just use a larger sensor, iso and not have auto shutter speed which is what webcams should be doing!
I use a kiyo myself, I have provided test footage;
ua-cam.com/video/dqPiuIXRd_s/v-deo.html
The trick with the Kiyo is not only going down to 720p, but also turning auto exposure off and cranking it down in the "Configure Video" menu in OBS in the Device Properties. If the exposure is set above -10 (towards 0), it starts getting choppier and choppier.
In theory that should do it, but I learned the hard way that the Mac version of OBS doesn't have the "Configure Video" menu, and I'm pretty sure Dank is using a Mac to run the streams.
You've just solved one of my big Kiyo problems. Cheers!
When I first started making little UA-cam videos, I used a PC with Windows XP and captured footage from a 2005 Labtec webcam directly into Windows Movie Maker. I find it utterly baffling that a brand new webcam bought today looks just as terrible as that did 10 years ago!

I have a gopro hero 10 black myself and here’s a few tips:
1. If the rear screen glitches out take the bat-tree out and put it back in
2. Theres 2 ways you can turn the gopro on, holding the side mode/power button or pressing the top button with Quik capture enabled
3. If by “glitching out” you mean the screen just turning off when the camera is recording without touch input, that’s just the gopro saving power
4. Make sure you have a super fast micro sd card for optimal performance (I run a 256gb lexar 1066x no problem) + for more run time you can use an external power source or the gopro enduro battery

Not if you use a proper mesh kit. I have one from tp-link and it works flawlessly and I live in a brick house.
I switched to an Asus modem/router after trying almost every other brand there is and struggling to ever get 6 months out of them before they would drop the connection constantly or the wifi would stop working. Love the effort and stuff you make for us, I recommend going with stuff that doesn't need batteries, and don't heat up over time, for capture cards for your camera getting a elgato camlink or a avermedia live cap would be good, remove the battery from the camera and use a ac adapter, usb webcams suck, especially new ones that get hot, heat kills everything overtime
I have learned that in many cases the cheap stuff tends to work more reliably. Not all the time, but sometimes.
thank you for blessing us with your content
@Don't Read Profile Picture ok
I feel you on all of this, things just break sometimes and it only hurts when it's expensive. My advice, just get something lightly used that had good reviews when it came out. I'm using a 20 year old tv that has some problems with the remote making the tv audio go nuts, but if I turn the remote away and keep it like that constantly it's the best tv I've ever used. Still using a 6 year old monitor for my computer and it's never failed me once, as you've said before when it comes to headphones, if it's good it stays good. Like I said, lightly used, good reviews on release, and you'll be grand
Edit: figured I should amend this comment since it wasn't the remote, it was one of the 3 HDMI ports being a bit loose, bit of soldering and hot glue and now she's good as new
Reasons why I love dankpods:
“Nugget.”
“I WILL ONE GRIT YOU”
“GOSH DINGUS”
“You stupid dingus”
“Na-no”
“Can you believe no one bought this?”
“My PKcell!”
Don’t forget Frank!!! 🐍
na no
"Can you believe no one bought this?"
"Hur-Dur 600s from ol mate Senny"
"MY PKCELL!"
"Na-No"
I feel this so much. Things just break in my hands sometimes and people blame me for it. Some things just do that.
Yep had a pair of headphones that died within 24 hrs of buying them took them back got another pair and they were doa lol just threw them away after that
0:21 GOSH DINGUS!!!
DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAA-
The Cymbal toss parts with raviolli music was too funny. I cried on laughter. XD
It's always so hilarious to me when I pick up on AvE sayings that Dank has picked up, like the "Magic Smoke". Working in a factory, I end up repeating a lot of it too, or at least the stuff that doesn't make the paint peel off the walls or make HR wash my mouth out with soap.
Aw, I didn't realize that was an AvE reference! I know he watches AvE too because I saw Dank comment on one ofthose vids.
I've used "tappy tap tap" at work before, but not much else.
I always thought that "magic smoke" was just a common term used in the electronics industry.
That term has been around since at least the 1960s 😂
@@Mosblinker It definitely is. I’ve never heard of AvE but I’m very familiar with the term
When UA-cam and technology invent the idea for you to smell scents through video, I want to be there to get a whiff of that BLUETTI smell! 🤣
0:02 that noise 😂😂
I’m waiting for another „Tech that let me down” special on january 19th 2024
I’m a package handler. We get eco flows every day. They’re palletized with red cling, every box is a hazmat, and 40-75lbs. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was damaged in transit.
Besto part of the week, watching a aussie man scream at bootleg landfill
Waiting for my A&P class to start, and I’m already debating skipping it just to watch this video
Man, we've been running a Super Smash Bros local on Twitch using the HD60 and it's a hell of a beast until it drops frames for virtually no reason.
I come here for one thing and one thing only:
The shouty man shouts at tech.
You never disappoint, DankPods! Please continue shouting at everything! Dirtybuds, Bad Tech, Good Tech, Drums, Cars… Shout at the _W_ _O_ _R_ _L_ _D_ .
10:10 Kind of remembers me of mom's 93' S10, there was a problem with the ignition control module wiring so the truck went through 4 of them before mom realized the old ones she took out from the truck were magically working again, so every time one failed, she just opened the glove box to get out one that had failed and surprise surprise, the truck would turn on again, electronics are just interesting aren't they?
