Anatomy of a Fall showed almost surgical filmmaking abilities - ger control of the story, the blocking, the music, the dialogue, ... absolutely a masterclass in directing
You know she’s a real one when she’s grabbing the early sets of directors works. Best nomination of this year was her Director nomination. That and Godzilla Minus One’s Effects nomination lol.
I love Justine Triet so much I have so much respect for her as a director and writer and her speech at Cannes were she spoke in the defense of the working class and the french film industry (cinema in general). Can't wait for her to make more movies and I would love to see her discuss film with Céline Sciamma in the future.
Loved Anatomy of a Fall, one of my favorites of this year! Thrilled Triet and Hüller were both nominated, been rooting for them. And can't wait to see what's next.
I really wish the producer of these videos would put the film title and director up on the screen for a few seconds when the actor/director brings up each film. I know they all come up in a list at the end, but it would be more helpful during the vid, especially with people who speak English as 2L and/or have a thick accent. Please! ❤ Criterion
Please get the French actor Swann Arlaud in the CC! You all know he lovingly plays Sandra's defence lawyer in Anatomy Of A Fall in a performance that should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the Oscar race. In the Closet, for 30 min, in French, yummy. . A request from me and my three housemates.
@@SleepFan771 Love the movie also but the Direction of all of the other movies nominated (did not see Zone of Interest yet, but only heard good things) is just better. Still wouldnt be mad about a win of course.
Based on watching "Anatomy of a Fall", I am surprised that Jusine Triet did not include films from Preminger, Hitchcock, and The Coen Brothers. There are clear influences from those filmmakers in her film.
I think this is the first time someone has chosen La Vérité in one of these videos if I'm not mistaken. Fantastic film, criminally underrated, one of Clouzot's best imho. Anatomy of a Fall is such a triumphant film. I have ADHD and so I have a difficult time watching dialogue driven films, especially courtroom dramas, yet AoaF genuinely felt like an 80 min film, not 2.5 hours. I was glued from start to finish and I was so sad when it was over!
Thank you so much, Criterion, for bringing more women into the closet! This representation --- both at the Oscars and here --- is very inspiring and hopeful . . . .
She was in the Criterion closet because she's a valuable artist and not because of her sex. Please don't bring pathetic left bullshit concepts to this comment section.
You commies always use censorship against opinions of others. Still her being a woman isn't important (to not left mob or in other words intellectually honest people). What is really important is quality of her work.

I see Anatomy of a Fall as the ultimate "pragmatic" film, a film that is neutral, doesn't try to be fancy or pretentious, and is very neutral about everything. In this way, it lets the viewer choose whether they should be invested emotionally or only intelectually when watching the film. In this sense, Triet has a great technique
Sacha Guitry forever ! I didn't expect Justine Triet to pay attention to this great artist, what a nice surprise. I really need to watch Anatomie d'une chute.
I loved the French version of "Three Men and a Baby". One of the very few films I've ever seen thanks to my sister's collection. The art form is just too slow-paced for the time. Likewise, vlogs.
Oh really🤣 And which films of her did you watch? Probably just the last one... and you will forget what you said here before next Cannes Festival in May.
Subtitles, please! Sometimes it is really hard to understand what people are saying and what films they’re talking about, specially when they - or we - aren’t native english speakers. :)
Barbie has won. I mean it made over a billion dollars. I’m sure she doesn’t really mind. Plus Robbie is a producer so she is in fact nominated. This was one of the best years at the cinema since 99 as far as I’m concerned. Incredible film after incredible film. And Anatomy of a Fall is top 3. It was a masterful film on all levels. I didn’t realize til after it was over that the vast majority was a court room drama. I usually hate those films but this was a tension filled, emotional nightmare in the best way possible. Also, the dog scene…Jesus
You know, America is not and shouldn't be the monopoly on creativity. Parce qu'il existe d'autres mondes... Und die Welt ist größer, als Sie sich vorstellen...
Sandra Huller should win for her masterful turn in Anatomy of Fall. She won't win because the academy doesn't care much about foreign performers. Sure they can get nominated but win, no.
The comments begin nicely and end with a ton of ignorant idiots as usual. Justine is sweet and a great director, but I do not expect anyone to understand that after she discusses other people's movies. Still, I am completely embarrassed and dumbfounded by the stupid responses below.
@@poopyloopy7236 Her films? The films Triet has made as a screenwriter and director or the films she's selected in the closet? Triet movie is beyond a joke. The case has no base, the trial is a joke, nothing is justified, everything is especulation. The only interesting thing is the fight scene that only last 15 minutes while viewers had to endure 90 minutes of a trial that doesnt make sense. It is a rip of of THE STAIRCASE documentary and a failed copy of bergmans SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE. This has won in cannes and therefor every snobish movie lover sucumbed to the hype
I don't think it's a truly great film, but it's solidly entertaining, like a documentary you'd play on a Saturday. But I certainly think it would have had more lukewarm and negative reviews if it hadn't won the Palme D'Or
Pls let's celebrate this woman for getting a best director nomination at the oscars for her amazing film anatomy of a fall

A significant majority of women I know fell asleep after five minutes of Barbie
I love Triet so much. She's so French. Merci beaucoup pour Anatomie d'une chute
Anatomy of a Fall was my favorite movie this year , so great. Really proud that she’s nominated for an Oscar. Bravo

Yessss! She described sex, lies, and videotape as a *mise en abyme*! 😍
Nice she picked "An Unmarried Woman", a film so attached to the 1970s that everyone had forgotten about it. And Jill Clayburgh was sensational.
My God i love her accent
Congratulations on your Oscar win, Justine!

not nearly enough artists reaching for the Eclipse series in these videos- they're where the hidden gems are! Triet is a master already.

Justine Triet has some great movie choices. I can’t wait to see her movie when it comes out in theaters.
This is a very good moment for everyone to watch Triet's previous film, Sibyl. A hugely entertaining piece of psychological farse.
Loved Anatomy of a Fall! Saw it tonight in Taipei at Showtime Cinemas
🤗So happy to see her here! LOVED Anatomy of a Fall... But what is that plane engine in the background??? (AC maybe?)
