Is it safe to say that the front 1/4 of the ship will be for refining of resources, and storage of refined goods? ... Or what?

I doubt the real whales will change their minds. I have spent a fair bit myself, and if the Pioneer had been available to CCU to, I probably would have, and called it a day. Now, I have a CCU chain to the Galaxy which will definetly not be applied, but since the money is already spent, I might as well wait until a ship I really want is *released* and then buy the final CCU to it with store credit. And then watch it get nerfed. But such is life. I believe(d) in the project and want(ed) to support it, I am an original backer as well, but the Galaxy situation is absolutely a new low, and this coming IAE, my wallet will be safe.

Now its oh I should have bought these in game, they won't be out for years.
It just came to me that CIG probably intentionally delays production of big specialized ships like BMM, Pioneer, Kraken, Orion because they don't yet know exactly how those special gameplay features will actually work later in the game. So they delay making expensive (in terms of worktime) ships to avoid necessity to significantly redesign them later again. A quick example of such a necessity now is Carrack, with its cargo hold absolutely not adapted to the current cargo system. In case with Pioneer 1:03 they were wiser so they just had to review the concept instead of redesigning.

It was sold as a modular ship and the concept sale was long gone by the time they mentioned it building bases. If you bought the ship just for base building then maybe reconsider buying a modular ship for a single purpose as the galaxy is a jack of all trades master of none. Simple tweak with ship locking can make this kind of stealing impossible. Also, very soon, in 4.0 when 'Hull HP" will be gone and "armor+hull penetration+component HP" will be a thing, "pirates paid 45$" won't be able to make a dent in capital ships without using multiple heavy fighters.
It won't be flight ready until base building is functional in the game. It's going to become a mandatory purchase for ORGs that want to build a space station.
Here's my thoughts on buying concept ships. No one should do it befor the ship is guaranteed delivered as is. As we are currently finding out there are issues with promises being made on ships not yet flyable.

Well they just shat the bed with the Galaxy so instead of getting the $20 upgrade money they can get the $300 Starlancer money and force everyone else into the Pioneer. Im a solo so I wouldnt touch that thing with a 200ft pool😂

It's a single use pony most of the time. It's alot of money that will be stuck doing mostly nothing. Why pay for that when you could also buy it in the game with credits? 1 000 000 AUEC per player will permit a large purchase.
This. You most likely will not get the "land claim" if you eventually buy it in-game. But when an org can afford the ship, the org can afford to pay for the land claim. Solo players or a group of 2-3 friends will probably not have any use for it anyway. If everything they showed at CitCon was small and/or medium modules, and the BLD is suppoed to build large modules, then (groud based) XL modules could be the size of a city district. Maybe useful for orgs, but which single player or small group needs that kind of space, when an M Module can print ships?
i think no one should buy this because i look for orgs to join suggesting i can get a pioneer and they say until i earn higher roles in the org i wont be allowed to field my own ships and most orgs have several owners so why waste your money? you need this ship if you have a leadership role in an org and if your org is big enough to gather resources to build XL stuff
@@andylester4503 the orgs im in are to small to field a pioneer only 300 accounts and only ever 20 or less online at any given point but i need org of over 1000 hoping the player count is 100+ ant any given point that would be good for pioneer but all the orgs this large or larger have strict rules as i try to join them all and they say they own all the fleet ships so all the low rank players dont need anything more than a starter ship and they want to train you and give you ships and crew if you train as pilot or crew.... my original plan was to own all the ships and present myself of value to the org but they say till i train i have no value.
No, it's not worth buying. It's super expensive (900USD+). Restricted. (limited numbers) and its only exclusive game play is the space station seed. Internally, the ship is boringly empty.
i own a few capital and large industrial ships but have been unable obtain the pioneer i wonder how easy will it be obtained in game if it will be purchasable or locked behind some major grind before you can buy

My main issue with base building is that it seems to be gatekept behind you owning or renting a specific ship or vehicle to craft and build your base.

Nah in 2-3 years when the Pioneer is flyable it will be a super hauler, and another concept ship will be the new building king.
Or the Pioneer will be nerfed to death and a Pioneer Mark II will be released.
