HOW TO FIND WILDLIFE to photograph | field craft ep1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- In this first episode of Field Craft for nature photographers, I am going to share some tips on how to find wildlife to photograph - in this case the foxes.
It is beginning of April, and I am in the forest to see if I am so lucky to have an active fox den in my backyard.
In this video I am going to talk about animal tracks, how to find out, if a den is used or not and how to see the difference if it is a badger or a fox, who is living in the den.
I am also showing how you can see the difference between a track from a fox and from a dog.
I hope you like this new series.

Hi everyone - this is my first episode in the new series Field Craft for nature photographers. I really hope this series can inspire some of you and I would love to hear, what you think about making such a series. Is it useful at all? Is it way too long with all my talking? And if you like it, what would you like to see in the next episodes?
Take care and see you out there..
yeah it's very useful! I've actually been waiting for something like this to come out, thanks Morten😁and like for every other video from you, the longer the better👍🏼
Haven't watched it yet but it is probably very useful and not long enough.
I like your videos
Great videos I really enjoy watching! Especially now when staying at home. Thank you for this great content and source of inspiration :)
Perfect video! I just came around a Fox Nest yesterday and I was trying to figure out a safe way to know if it is used or not without bothering them. Thanks!
Please continue 'How to' series.
Thanks for posting this comment. He noticed it and hearted your image
Hi Morton ... thanks for all your sharings. I have had the opportunity to photograph a family of foxes... what I learned about them is ....I sat for hours around their den with no intentions just observing their patterns of life. Overtime they became so used of me, they became closer to me. The trust factor was deffinatly in my favour. I saw the cubs going all out together, learning how to hunt. Overtime I wittnessed them venturing out on their own...the one young male was so proud of himself because he was back to the den first ..with a bird. The expression on his face was priceless. He was so proud of himself. Some of my friends thought I was crazy sitting for hours each evening but I was completely at peace...what a remarkable feeling. Love all your videos ,,,, keep shooting on!.
Great story. Thank you for sharing!
Dear Morten, You are a life saver. After a week of working from home plus curfews, a 36 minute video is a real tonic. Thank you.
I don't know, how You do it... But, every single video from You is like a relaxation for me. I love the atmosphere, Your joy, gentle background music. THANK YOU :)
Just have to say thank you for your amazing Videos. I have been doing photography since the mid 90's even had my own dark room before digital started to become a accessible thing. My 12 Y/O daughter and I have been watching and just finished all of your videos together while on social distancing and it has gotten her really into doing more nature photography with me. We have taken multiple mini trips to find birds at the local refuge or just in the hills behind our house. Thank you for making your content so accessible and beautiful, not just focused on the technical but also the feeling that has her at least currently hooked.
“The good stuff in life”.... what is it? Coffee of course. It’s the simple things isn’t it. Love this
This is so much better than "Vilde vidunderlige Danmark" You channel is for real and no tame animals and no setups. This is what i like, keep it up Morten
In a challenging time, your videos keep me comforted and sane.
Thank you very much for this video. This series would be "actually useful". These days no one wants to g8ve these useful tips. Thank you for doing that!
Hai Mr.morten I have been traveling with you from srilanka. i dont know how to appreciate you. iam getting amazing feel when i watching your videos thank you so much
Nice! Great to have some more How To video’s!
I love hearing the birds 🐦 wicked enchanting.
Hi Morten! It´s always a pleasure to watch your videos...!
Great informative video Morton. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy the birds and the guitar and just wildlife/tree/greenery shots. Incredibly relaxing. I could just head right off to sleep.
Thank you for the information Morten
Amazing, as always! What can be better then drinking tea and walking the forest with Morten!.. Maybe the real morning forest walk ) Thanks a lot!
I always watch your videos with great pleasure. Nature is an inexhaustible source of energy and inspiration. Thank you.
Love the focus on field craft while you are working. Keep up the great work.
Always pleasure to follow your adventures Morten!
The awesome sounds of the morning creatures. The host's humility in front of these creatures. The gentle and nature-sensitive conversation. The captured actions. Everything about this video is awesome. Thank you Morten for bringing the beautiful outside into our home during this terrible pandemic.
Great video Morten, no Florida sunshine were you are real conditions to work with real field craft not just pulling up at a wildlife theme park.
i teach others how to these things and i find the hardest thing is getting them to slow down and actually see not just look. i have had some walk within a meter of a den, deer rub ect. and never see it. also they never ever be quiet. great video like always keep it up.
Excellent! Thank You.
Jim
i'm a recent fan from Belgium. Thanks Morten for your simplicity, you tell us a story.
Fantastic video Morten. Thank you !!
Always when I finish watching your video, I would like to put down my cup of coffee, or maybe have one more sip and then grab my backpack, camera and head out straight into woods or nature in general and try to find something I can take a picture of. Thank you Morten for another great video. Best regards from Iceland.
“Animal babies” made me laugh haha awesome videos Morten, pleasure hearing you!
I feel so relaxed after watching your videos!
Love your work, Rick from Australia
Sharing how to find wildlife to photograph very useful!👍
Ful with inspiration...😍😍
the valley looks very cold, good video !!
Morten, thank you so much for that, it was so educational. Please make more of these types of videos! Also, the drone shot of you walking through the field was beautiful!
Once again, a beautiful video by Morten! A beacon in this difficult times. Makes me feel like god actually exist. Thanks mate!
Morten ever thought of getting some revenue from coffee advertising. Perfect candidate.
For someone like me who is trying to learn wildlife photography, it's really good to learn how you respect wild animals and their space. That's how every human being should behave. Respect nature and wildlife. All the very best to all your future photography endeavors.
Thank You very much! Please keep these series!!
Wow! This Video helped me so much! Thank you!
Very useful Morten. Looking forward to see what your cam trap can record in the forest. 👍
Another great video Morten, always such a pleasure to sit with a coffee and watch your wildlife adventures. Had to laugh when I saw your gaffa taped down jacket repair - I do exactly the same with mine when I get a tear! Keep up the fabulous work it's inspiring.
Another stunning video. Well done and great topic. Bravo
Man, I love how super quite and relaxing your videos are, keep up your excellent work!
Morten, you can also produce ASMR-videos with all this wildlife-sound on your land. 👍 Beautiful!
It's great and very nice to see you are as excited as a little child when it comes to spending time in the nature.
I know the feeling very well. There is very little better than that.
Sir. I like your content channel. God bless you sir. Keep healthy
Excelent advisements, cool

I just love your videos. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. Your love of nature and what you are doing is great to see. Your excitement is addictive. Thanks so much. God bless.
Taking this photos and shots are not easy. Wild life is very unpredictable. Anything can happen. Respect to you sir for taking so much risks and taking so many nice beautiful pics. Stay safe everyone 🤘😊👍💯
I do love the way you work Morten, and how much passion you put on it. I do love forest as well as photography living in the north of Spain. Congrats once more.
That almost 'Bladerunner' music intro = 👏
I am from a remote village named Gholwad in India... From young age I fell in love with Wildlife... I started doing wildlife Photography as a hobby... But soon it turned into an obsession... Your Videos have guided me alot... What I love about your videos are that aside from taking us to their world you also show the harshness of Wildlife Photography as well... You teach us to respect wildlife... You teach us not to invade in the space of the animals... You never tell or encourage people to venture dangerously close to animals putting stress on them... You show what we wildlife photographers have to go through to get that perfect shot.... Thanks for All your videos... You have been an massive inspiration for someone like me because who is self taught... I wish someday I can work alongside you and also host you in my village someday....
Just Fantastic Morten! Tracking animals is awesome. When I go to Africa, I get the Maasai warriors to teach me. Stay well my friend.
Absolutely love this! Thank you, Morten! I'm a huge fan!
I am always learning from your video. So thank you.
EVERY video you make is so good. So relaxing. I love it when you apologise in your BTS sections for talking a lot. Morten, every word you speak is valuable.
However, you make me drink too much coffee. EVERY time you have coffee, I want one also... even if I have just had one! 😜
Best channel Morten, thank you from Czech Republic.
Hey Morten! Superb video as usual! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! I would definitely look forward to seeing more videos like this!
Another great video.
Thank you Morten, very interesting and insightful. Can’t wait for the next video.
Most the people are losing interest in nature photography. Most of the people will overlook it.
I just started I am not a professional I am student who find his new hobby in nature photography
I started from my garden and I know I will surely carry it out. Your are my inspiration sir thanks a lot sir
I am impressed
Amazing, Thank you for sharing with us. 😊
Thank you Morten for your wonderful video's.
A video on reasearching an area you haven't been to, also finding locations of deer would be great. many thanks.
Thank you Morton for a wonderful “fieldcraft” video! Also, I don’t know anyone who enjoys a cup of coffee more than you do!
Hi Morten, your forest is very nice and pictures from the drone do the job very well. I fell like walking next to you. Just pure professionalism. Nothing special by me, just bisons, at 5.30 this morning small family of 14. All the best for everybody and see you out there!
Fieldcraft.......i love it! much gratitude............
Your field craft video is a great idea, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about wildlife! I am looking forward to the next video and the results of your wildlife-cam.
Good luck building the wooden terrace!!!
I never found opportunity to do wildlife photography. I live in the city and here in NYC, the transportation fares are getting expensive. But I wish to get into wildlife photography for other alternative of saying hunting in respectful methods. Theodore Roosevelt once said "the qualities makes a good soldier are, in a large part, that makes him a good hunter." This lock-down mentality does begs me to stay inside. However its always a pleasure to see you in woodlands doing wildlife photography.
More long videos like this please. Right now the countries in lockdown need content to watch haha
Fantastic video; I really enjoyed it.
Great video, Morten! Looking forward to the rest of the series..
Thank you for your respect for the wildlife. It is the very best thing about your wonderful videos. I only know two photographers who talk so much about this, and they always get the most wonderful photos . . . and leave the wildlife to the important work they're doing. I am raising my cup of coffee to you! :)
I think you have the nicest isolation area to stay away from the virus I have seen so far.
When I go shooting wildlife, I read up on the animal I want to capture to understand its behaviour a bit more. It has helped me a lot to find and getting the shot I want.
Morten, I really enjoy your adventures. Combination of two of my favorite hobbies: travel and photography. Keep the videos coming. I watch every one.
Thank you Morten, really an inspireing video. You are always welcome to post more of this stuff :)
Good that you pay a lot of attention to not disturbing the animals, that cannot be brought to the attention enough.
Really great video Morten! Please continue this series because I learned a lot and you really inspire me to go out and photograph!
I love your efforts Morten, especially with the English language, and your training of others with your photography and knowledge of wildlife. You do very well. It’s very appreciated. Thank you!
I always Look forward to your videos
Amazing video. Finally someone is talking about tracks and the importance to be able to track wildlife. I do it all the time, especially the Eurasian lynx I track through the whole winter here in Northern Norway. Keep up the good work.
Perfect! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us.
The longer the better! 😁
Morten, in the flood of social media comments I am not sure you will see this. I am an ex professional wedding photographer who now is passionate about wildlife photography (In part due to you) 3 weeks ago this evening my partner had a heart attack (Times two) and I saved her life by peforming CPR (Times two), Long story but she is home now (WIth broken ribs after my CPR) but you should know you are an inspiration (Shown her 13 and 11 year old son some of your tracking videos) Love the morning coffee (As I do) So wanted to say, you and your partner stay safe, stay being awesome, plus I will photograph the first recorded sighting of Chinese Water Deer in Leicestershire, England. Best wishes, Martin
This is going to be good! No pressure😉
Great Morten! I really love this kind of video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. I can’t wait for the next episode! See you
Thanks for this nice video, Morten! See you out there. Looking for badgers myself. A hard job, but fun as well.
Amazing video as always. Can't wait to see part 2😉
This was great Morten!
Great video. 10 days ago I was a photographer not knowing your work. Now i am a photographer Who is studying wildlife photography, during quarantine, in France. I can't wait to be able to go in the forest next to my place for 2 days, and wait for any animal ! Thanks a lot, your work is fantastic, love it. I should just stop drinking coffee everytime you do, i cant sleep now 😂
Huge fan sir from Nepal I learned many things from u😍
OMG YES, FINALY the lesson i needed from the master :D
Great stuff. My favorite Tube channel. Learned a lot about wildlife photography from you. You have unbelievable outdoor skills. Funny, I've been drinking more coffee since watching you too. On my property I watch for mountain lion, and bobcat tracks besides deer, fox, coyote and turkey here in Nebraska. Keep up the great work. Be safe.
Thanks for the beautiful video! Can you tell us the camera model and some feedback on how it's working?
You are an inspiration!
I love this field craft series. Keep them coming. Clearly I need to order a book on animal tracks.
Awesome stuff morten look forward to next video. I’ve been following a family of foxes my self for last two years it’s been amazing
Good to see you getting out and creating amidst all of the chaos going on in the world. I have been doing the same. Again I say that your infectious enthusiasm inspires us to get outside, even in the darkest times, nature carries on and new life begins. Capture it and share.
If Hilmer was a celebrity I'd be his biggest fan
Your lifestyle is amazing
Keep inspiring us :)
I enjoyed your video looking forward to seeing what you get on your game camera.
