I know that the mushrooms were supposed to be the subject and star of the Autumn woodland show, but for me those cheeky horse chestnuts snuck in and stole the show! Love their rich color and soft glow. So nicely done, so it wasn't their fault...you as the artist made them do it! 😉
Thanks so much!
Couldn't agree more
Tomas un pincel y haces maravillas🤩🤩🤩
Hi
Yes, I must confess I'm down with those cheeky chestnuts, too! 😁 🇺🇸
It's so fresh, with some smell of autumn and forest
Glad you enjoyed it!
😂Paul, I thoroughly enjoyed your mushroom painting! Magical atmospherical effects, amazing colours and textures and composition.🫠❤
Thank you so much 😀
Oh!the days of innocence ! Conkers ,marbles etc etc ! How they are missed.
Agree - no need for PlayStations in those days!!!
Love this painting and I remember conkers in the playground although they were indeed banned when my children went to school. Thank you for a wonderful tutorial.
Cheers Wendy!
Very interesting lesson. Ukraine is grateful!
Our pleasure!
Conkers! Of course...my kid brother used to play with them when we lived in the UK years ago.
And this painting is simply stunning! The sprinkled salt makes the background so pretty! It looks like coral reefs up close.
Thanks for teaching us the Bokeh effect. However, I liked your painting even more, before that stage 😊
Thanks for sharing!
I thought it looked messy and terrible to start with but you created magic! Looks amazing! I only hope i will be able to paint as beautifully as you one day
You can do it! ... many thanks
Never heard of conkers in Philly. We had them roasting on an open fire at Christmas - with Mel! The painting is enchanting and inspiring. Thank you!
Cheers - thanks for that!
I love that painting, love the colors. In New York, we never played that game. We played other strange games that I won't mention here.😂
Lol!!! - that sounds very intriguing!!!
I picked up a handful of horsechestnuts only the other week and just having them in my hand brought back all the memories of childhood. I don't think I even managed to get a two-er .. my brothers easily beat mine every time. But happy memories, despite the bruised fingers LOL
Lol! - love that - happy memories!
We definitely used to play conkers in Toronto when I was at grade school, way back in the 60s.
Great to hear!
Thus is really quite beautiful! I always thought Americans and UK folks spoke the same language until hubby and I started watching Line of Duty. It was hilarious because I had to keep a list and write down so many things to find out what they were talking about, I.e., 1) You fancy a cuppa? 2) bent copper, 3) Houl yer whisht, ahhhh so many but the best by far was…Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey. BTW, retreat seems phenomenal !
Lol! great comment - thanks for sharing .... and don't forget 'dodgy geezer!'
Love this! I am gonna give it a try! I live in the USA Illinois. Never heard of the Conchers game. However our game of marbles would be similar. You use your marbles to knock out your opponents marbles!😀You are a marvelous teacher and love watching you paint!
Thanks so much and yes used to love playing marbles too!
Quite delightful Paul. Yes up here in Scotland in the 60's, I fondly remember gathering conkers with my brother, then the prices of selection began. As I was the younger sibling and a girl! I had to learn from my older brother. Great fun and a seasonal delight.......
Great to hear and thanks for sharing!
Masterful! The bokeh circles are perfectr!
Thanks so much!
Conkers, Cheesers and Wedgies, if I remember correctly. Lovely study! Autumn and Spring my favourite seasons! Thankyou, Paul and One and All! ❤ XXX
Lol! - a trip down memory lane!
To quote a Hobbit: "MUSHROOMS!!" 💜😍 What a gorgeous painting and a wonderful tutorial!! Thank you, Paul!!! 🙏🏻
Thank you! Cheers! Lol!
Always used to play conkers with my mates when I was little, plus it was great fun getting the conkers by knocking them off the trees by throwing a stick up at them
Yup, remember that well!
Not heard of “conkers”here🇨🇦…..great background textures….lovely composition….mushrooms are one of nature’s little gems
Thank you! Cheers!
Exactly! Anna Mason also did a "conker" drawing and (???). It looked like a chestnut in it's outer shell to me. Amusing name to us north Americans
Hi Paul, it was so much fun!! Thank you! Looking forward to next Wednesday 🎉
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this beautiful still life. And now I discover that a British man introduced Conkers in France (in Dordogne) in the 90's and that there is now a national Conker championship ... soon at the Olympics 🤭
Of course, we call that game « Le Conker » 😊
Lol!!! - that's great to hear, thanks for sharing .... merci!
Hi Paul, never heard of the game of conkers but, we girls would take the horse chestnuts and drill a hole in them and make necklaces and bracelets from them. This was in Syracuse NY USA 🇺🇸 where I was from.
Love this woodland scene, brought back great memories of fall in what was my neck of the woods. 👍🏻🎨❌🍂🍁
Great stuff! - thanks for sharing!
Lovely tutorial Paul, enjoyed it so much and was a joy to paint. Many thanks, You're a great teacher 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like you simply throw around paint and then...there it is- BEAUTY.
Glad you enjoyed it J!
Hello from North Carolina, USA! As soon as I saw your photo of today’s lesson with the chestnuts, I remembered the school yard behind my house near Bronx NY. Boys were kept separate from girls during lunch break and the boys would have those chestnuts swinging! The nuns put a stop to that quickly 🤣 Many thanks to you and Margot for all you do!!
Great little story - thanks for sharing!
We had a huge horse chestnut tree. We had a blast smashing them, but even more fun was going over them with the lawn mower😅 I grew up in Wisconsin,US on a farm, so entertained ourselves a lot.
Thank you for a delightful woodlans painting.
We have a mushroom farm nearby. It's interesting actually
Lovely stuff, thanks for sharing!
Excellent job Paul… the lifting of color with white circles finishes the background perfectly with template. Lov it.. will have to try this one. Cheers from California!
Awesome, thank you!
Lovely textures. I remember conkers hurt the knuckles, girls didn't play it much. I'm a Brit, in Essex now but grew up in London
So true! - many thanks Maggie!
I thought you went mad when you started dropping in the viridian but it all looked perfect in the end. Also you showed great restraint with the overdone bokeh effect and I didn't mind it at all. Good job!!!
Yes Paul. Playing conkers was something I did at school 60 years ago. (Often being naughty throwing sticks into the tree to knock down the ripe conkers) and often shouted at by the tree owner! Understandably.
Oh, yes .... been there too!
Conkers are from the Horse Chestnut tree which has beautiful white ‘candles’ of flowers in the Spring, they are not edible but some people use them to keep away spiders and kids thread string through them and try to hit each others conker with the aim of splitting them and winning. Chestnuts are from the Sweet Chestnut tree and are edible, mostly roasted at Christmas or used in stuffings and nut loaves. They are contained in very prickly coverings whereas conkers have smooth ones.
Thanks for sharing the info!
I am Englis living in Australia and fondly remember playing conkers with my brother. We made our own fun and they were indeed the good old days. Anita.
Lovely to hear Anita!
OOh the mushrooms and buckeyes look so real. Rather like the bubble effect. Thanks Paul, Sherry
My pleasure Sherry!
Good afternoon Paul! I was at a friend’s house this morning showing her how to use an app that helps you draw. Plus we painted a church together. Hers turned out great but she took longer than me to paint so I pulled up your video and painted this scene of mushrooms. Great tutorial! I posted my painting in the Facebook group. It might not be finished yet. I’ll wait and look at it again tomorrow.
I have to thank you for your tutorials and for being such a generous teacher. Because of all I’ve learned from you I’m now teaching others how to paint with watercolor. You made me fall in love with watercolor and I’m sharing that love with others and seeing them love watercolor too. That’s a testimony to what a gift you are to this world. Praying your day is full of joy and happiness! Much love to Margot. Both of you are a blessing. ❤❤❤
Hello dear sweet Jacqueline! Your name is beautiful, it sounds aristocratic like Jacqueline Kennedy, Jacqueline Onassis.... A famous name. And my full name is Adelaide, in honor of the Australian city, because when I was born my dad was in Australia on a whaling ship went to sea and they were in the port of Adelaide for repairs and they told him that I was born. Dad liked the city so much that he decided to call me by that name. This is such an interesting story. I wish you, dear beauty Princess Jacqueline, good luck, health, creative growth , creativity and positivity! I am also drawing now, I want to paint all of Paul’s drawings in watercolor, there are 162 of them with today’s lesson. I downloaded all his templates from the site and now there is a lot of work. Dear Jacqueline is always glad to see you and read your messages, you are amazingly kind woman, we may have different views, beliefs, languages, we live on different sides of the planet, but man can always understand and accept who he is with all his individual characteristics!✋😊🖐️😊Peace to the world!!!
@@adelabadova3105 Aw I’m smiling so big right now! You are sweet and a bright ray of sunshine in my life. Your story of being named is so intriguing and you tell it well. I picture you painting a picture of the city while telling the story. My dad also named me. His name was Jack. I think Jacqueline Kennedy was very famous so a lot of girls were named after her. I think it’s an amazing world we live in that we can be friends being pretty much on opposite ends of the earth. God is good to have us meet. 🥰❤️🙏🏻 You are always encouraging and caring. I’m looking forward to seeing some of your art. Much love and prayers for you. 😘🙏🏻❤️
Hi Jacquline - thanks for you continuing support and delighted to help in your painting journey - good to see you chat with Adela too!
@@ArtbyPaulClark you bring people together. ❤️❤️❤️
@@ArtbyPaulClark Thanks Paul!❤❤❤💋💋💋😊😊😊🖐
A really nice one, today, Paul! I do like the Bokeh effect and I love your shiny, deep brown conkers!!!😁😍👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
Conkers was a game we played at school. Went to a girls school and even in the mid 40s early 50s we never thought of it as a 'boys game' . Conkers have always been a joy to my eyes touch, loed the rich shiny brown and the smooth feel. A seasonal 'worry stone ' !!! Great memories 😊
Great to hear - thanks for sharing!
Yippeee it’s Watercolor Wednesday! My favorite day of the week.
I love how you added the unexpected chestnuts or buckeyes as we call them in Georgia, USA. Buckeyes are carried in people’s pockets to bring good luck. I’ll certainly try to “give this one a go”
Thanks for the info Angie!
My dad carried one till the day he died!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thank you! I’ve never heard of that game played with conkers being raised in CA USA. Sounds like a great boys game! Love the mushrooms! 🍄
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for another of your great tutorials, Paul. Fantastic colours und guidance. Loved the
"unexpected madness" ..which gave me a good laughter😂.
Great to hear - thanks!
I loved it as I do mushrooms. I think they are gorgeous. I love the whole painting, the colors are awesome and the artwork is magnificent. And I have never heard of that game.
Thank you so much!
I’ve only heard of Conkers thanks to Kipper!❤ Loved this painting. Thank you Paul!
Lol! - Thanks for listening Emily
Amazing tutorial as always. You are not only talented but you are very charismatic with beautiful passion. Paul, I also love your thematic T-Shirts! Thank you for everything. 🥰
Ahhh, that's very kind Cheers - thanks for that!
@@ArtbyPaulClark thank You Paul ❤️
Oooooo👏‼️💫🎨🖌️. Wonderful work ‼️. I must try this one😊
Thank you! Cheers!
I just love you and your videos...they almost always excited me and interest me...
Wow, thank you!
One of your best demos. Every technique under the sun. Just brilliant!😊
Glad you enjoyed it Shirley!
Thankyou Paul. That was stunning - and so well presented. I’ve been looking for inspiration for a good while and now I’ve got it!
You are very welcome
Beautiful. I love the feel of this one. Very sweet
Lovely ! Thanks Paul.
Glad you enjoyed it
I have to tell you that I was thrilled to see YOU do the Bokeh effect!
... at last ... probably the last artist on UA-cam!
@@ArtbyPaulClark Ha! Well, of the ones I have watched yours is the least frustrating! Yours looks like the effect, but you didn't do all of the I don't know, seems others just pansy around with it too much.
Excellent work! I heard that water color painting is much harder than oil painting. At least, according to the late Bob Ross, whom I watched on T.V. for 20 years.
Thank you! Cheers! - it can be. but I think it's much more fun!
Спасибо,Пол! В этом уроке всё замечательно! Грибы(мне кажется это ложные опята),каштаны-красавцы,эффект от соли,боке....А сколько небольших,но очень полезных советов! Прямо радость в дом! Спасибо,до среды!
Many thanks!
Autumn 🍁 wasn't Autumn 🍂 without collecting and playing with conkers !! When we were kids in Northern Ireland, we hollowed out huge turnips for our Halloween lanterns.
Beautiful seasonal painting that evokes lots of lovely memories!
Brilliant as usual 🍂🍁😊
Thanks for sharing!! - great comment!
Thanks, again, Paul! I emailed about the trip in September '24. I would sure love that!
You ought to J - it's a fab place!
@@ArtbyPaulClark I'm about ready to whip it out, Paul. I mean my credit card! I would so love this, and my hubby will be with his parents for a week at that time. Seems perfect for me to do. I was across the pond years ago singing in Vienna, but I was so busy (and it was incredible) and young and rehearsing! I have a few questions which I am corresponding with Margot about.
@@ArtbyPaulClark Paul, I believe I can afford it. The price seems quite lower than I expected. Is there an airport near the farm?
Yes, Conkers! Great memories from my childhood! Now I live in Canada and have a ‘conker’ tree in my back yard. Squirrels love them.
That is awesome!
Another great tutorial Paul your attention to detail is amazing i truly loved this one and it was very nostalgic i hold some wonderful memories of spending hours as a young lad baking conkers , or soaking them in vinegar making the holes threading the string and playing for hours and coming home with sore fingers and knuckles!!! Well done Paul and thank-you
Thanks Neil - glad you enjoyed it!
This is so very pretty, many thanks Paul!! 🎨🖌️
Thank you so much 😀
This the reall magic ! Wanderfull !❤
Fantastic tutorial! I also love all your t-shirts :) You really are a phenomenal teacher, artist, media artist, and human being!
Cheers - thanks for that!
Also a nice tutorial, i love still life pictures thanks and a nice weekend
Thank you! You too!
Thank you once again for a lovey painting Paul.
You are very welcome
Wonderful! I can't wait to start this one but I'm wrestling a minky whale this evening. The facebook group work is great to see - warm thanks to them for sharing. Conkering I loved as a kid, splitting that perfect shiny nut from the spiky shell. They could sting but does anyone remember those "clackers" from the seventies, I think. They were a pair of really hard coloured balls strung through and joined at the top. You had to start slowly "clacking" the balls together, then build up momentum till they clacked back and force at speed above your flipping wrist. I think they might have banned those after all the acci unit visits!
Hiya - great comment! - yes remember those Clackers too - hugely popular in the mid-70's if I remember correctly!
Another amazing Watercolour Wednesday Paul ! I love your painting and everything from the fairy dust effect to the bokeh is so pretty ! Thanks again for your expertise and humour :)
Thank you so much Patricia 😀
Wonderful saved it thanks
Delightful
My house will never get clean… will do this next free time 😮😊🎉🎉🎉
These mushrooms and the background are incredible! Some time ago I was thinking about how to achieve this bokeh effect in watercolor. Thank you so much for this inspirational video!
Glad it was helpful!
Love the mushrooms! So look forward to Watercolor Wednesdays. Thanks so much, Paul. ❤
My pleasure Sharon!
Fantastic lesson. Thank you Paul. I have painted many a mushroom and toadstool. Just love them. So many different shapes and sizes. X
You are very welcome
Lovely and magical! Thank you Paul
You are very welcome
Dear Paul, I was very pleased with the Autumn Woodland Scene tutorial. It's so unique. My favorite is horse chestnut, but it looks fantastic with mushrooms. It was a pleasure to use a variety of techniques. Thank you for this outstanding tutorial.
Gorgeous! Fungi is one of my favorite things to paint.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@ArtbyPaulClark 😎🍄
Never heard of conkers but I’m from the U.S. so I’m sure that explains it. Beautiful autumn painting though I love Wednesdays!!!
Great to hear - thanks!
Love little woodland vignettes like this one. 😍 And that bokeh treatment, yellow bits, and dot highlights of white gouache made me realise how these small techniques can make such a big difference in taking a flat painting to something quite exciting and full of life. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. 😊❤😊
Growing up In Newfoundland, Conkers was a game played by the boys with chestnuts. They showed no mercy, so I usually stayed out of it and stuck to a less threatening game of jacks! I love this painting.
Great info - thanks for sharing!
яка краса!!!казкоао!!!браво!!
Cheers!
Absolutely lovely painting, Paul. Love the salt and bokeh effects. Magical. I am chuffed to bits that my mushroom painting was amongst those shown at the end. That’s certainly spurred me on. Thank you and Margot. 😊
Wonderful - great to hear!
Thanks again for another lovely tutorial! The granulation in the background works so well 🎉. Cheers!
Thanks so much 😊
What a lovely treat , as allways, thank you maestro. By the way, i like the T - shirt.
Great to hear -many thanks!
Fantastic painting you are amazing as always and with a nice humor
Thank you so much 😀
Lovely woodland painting! Love the colors and contrast. The mushrooms and chestnuts pop off the paper. I'm not a fan of bokeh--too arts and crafts for me--but you made it work. Have a great week.
Thanks so much! 😊
Wonderful watercolour Wednesday. Festive season in India. Very pleasant weather but no dramatic Autumn colours.
Thank you for the tutorial.
My pleasure 😊
Ohio, the “Buckeye State,” recognizes horse chestnuts as buckeyes! Never played conkers but my mama has a necklace string of buckeyes in honor of our state’s football team. Fun tutorial.
Cheers - thanks for the info!
Beautiful fall painting! Never heard of the chestnut game in Pennsylvania USA, but we used to put string through and make jewelry.
Sounds great!
Hi. Played conkers as a kid in Halifax, Novia Scotia, Canada. Thanks for sharing your art. Harry
Thanks for listening Harry!
Fun painting - thank you :). Conkers - parents would make you wear a helmet to play that now.
Absolutely! ... among with cricket gloves!
Can't wait to try this one!
Have fun!
Fabulous painting
Cheers!
Oh what a beautiful painting. Its so pretty. I love the bokeh effect. Covid has struck me down so I'm hoping to get to my paints later this week when I feel better. And yes I very much grew up in England playing conkers as a kid...ah the memories.
Thanks Paul for another beautiful and brilliant tutorial 👌🙏
Great to hear ... and get better soon!
Amazing painting
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing! I loved this kind of bubbles at thi end! Thanks for your tips!
You are so welcome!
Loved it! You make it look so easy! Thanks. If I lived across the pond I would come to your workshop.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for that video.....I particularly love the fact you put up the names of the colours on the screen when you use each colour. BRILLIANT!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks *Paul* lovely image & the ending paintings too🍄
You are very welcome
Brilliant Paul thank you
Cheers!
Love the salt technique! Thx for the tip!!
You are so welcome!
Oh, what a wonderfully beautiful motif this is again. I can't put into words how happy I am again and again. Thank you very much for this wonderful picture, dear Paul.
Wow, thank you!
Fantastic! Can’t wait to try it
Have fun!
As always...beautiful!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Loved it Paul ! ❤
Thanks so much!
Thank you. Amazing tutorial, amazing selection of woodland paintings, what more can I say - oh yes, I've tried the Bokeh effect without satisfactory results, but you have explained the process perfectly. Thank you. Amazing
Glad it was helpful! thanks!
Absolutely stunning!
Cheers - thanks for that!
this is fantastic, such cute mushrooms ❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
