In the first battle, if you got either a max roll, a crit, or a poison from Sludge Bomb on Gothitelle with Venusaur or if Draco Meteor got a crit, then Latios would have knocked out Gothitelle and had enough HP left for Ice Beam from Shell Smash Blastoise to not KO without a crit or freeze hax. Overall, you'd still be in a bad spot, but with luck you could have made it through with one fewer sack and Latios still alive. I'm not sure if you could've won, but you would've been in a much better position.

Not risking/sacking Latios vs. Blastoise was what you could've done differently. I think double Protecting on some later turn with Salazzle and sacking that would've been a much better play. Then you still have one mon plus Latios which already was the best option into Gouging Fire, and then in hindsight we saw Okidogi in the back which Latios potentially could handle too with the switch into Dusknoir to reset Choice Scarf. I think Double Protect has an okay chance of working anyways, and Latios was not worth risking. Worst case you lock into sneak with Dusknoir to finish Blastoise, which sucks but maybe still gives more chances to win. Also potentially going Dusknoir on the Flip Turn, since it looked good into Gothitelle and Gouging Fire and would avoid Latios getting tricked.
I think not going dusknoir on the Lugia was a mistake there, ngl Pain split keeps you alive forever and you don't care about spdef raises Poltergeist can miss but the odds are still in your favour considering it was para'd
The odds was also in his favor to get a full para, sdef drop, or a crit with spamming Earth Power but out of all of that over like 10 turns he only got 1 full para and a meaningless Aeroblast miss. That's pretty lousy
What you could have done different in the first game was to at least consider using giga drain on venusaur instead of sub. Scarf gothi put you in growth range, and you wouldn't lose much if they're not scarf since psychic noise goes through sub anyway
in game 1 you probably needed to tera venasaur to limit gothitelle from getting the free kill. it would’ve switched out and you could’ve gone from there obviously tho this is hindsight speak and you’re probably never gonna think a turn 2 defensive tera is worth it. tough mu

Lugia is a menace to face. Even at level 74, its bulk is still nuts. Giving it calm mind and recover was just evil.
