people kill me criticizing a singer who cant duplicate what they did in the studio when the fact is what we hear on record is often the result of several different takes pieced together. its not common for singers to nail a song in one take.
@Day yea, esp when Mariah songs are like harder than every Whitney song, it’s almost impossible to sing. But there are moments when Mariah made emotions better than the studio take.
1. Especially if they're the ones arranging their vocals for every single record (case in point :Mariah) and not just going off of a vocal arrangement that was handed to them in a demo tape. She has to come up with various arrangements and decide what she likes...what notes she prefers etc. 2. All the pathetic haters can look up Mariah's stems/a capellas of several songs to hear how she was singing her face off in the studio. One sweet day; Outside; Anytime you need a Friend, Emotions; Can't let go; I still believe; Butterfly...several songs off "Merry Christmas" and many more. 3. All the ones hating usually have no damn vocal/musical talent so idk why tf they judging from outside the club when they can't even get in 😂😂
Staring @ 8:22, the question and her answer were awesome! She certainly called that one about these songs standing the test of time and still being here!!!!! Think about it....we are watching this right now....she knew she was producing amazing things!!!!!!!!!!!!
Y'all mad annoying. Clearly she was having a not so great vocal day. She did better than a lot of singers on her bad day Nodules and lack of rest (i mean, sony milked her for her talent for more than a decade). She performed both songs extremely well on other occasions. She is a HUMAN BEING. We are not perfect 24/7 for 365 days a year.
People are so annoying. Her whistles were unstable and her nodules were bothering her. Her first whistle was unstable so she skipped the second. She had no improvation for the third so she did it. She didn't do the climax whistles because it requires a lot of control to do which she didn't have at the moment. Her chest voice also was effected by nodules, the last run in Emotions - she couldn't get out the last note. Can't Let Go, she dodges some upper chest notes and goes lower and that short lived whistle. Her head voice and falsetto remains unbothered by high notes, which is why she later became the Queen of Register Changes.
jay kay she can do whistle, also hitting lower notes, doing creative melisma, making harmony, write and produce songs, amazing upper belt, making 19 #1 songs, etc. Sorry
@M J sorry but your opinion not count, the melisma singer is hard. I think you don't know about the vocal. how rude you say like that, even Mariah has a smooth transition ever and people agree with that, and anyway, Mariah is the #1 female singer all of the time (billboard)
@@terrencemalbrough5766 not as good as Whitney 😂😂😂😂. She surpassed Whitney by a long shot. Mariah’s range surpassed Whitney , from her lowest to highest notes. Mariahs tone was so smooth , she wrote all of her songs except her covers unlike Whitney. Whitney had a beautiful voice but her talent and range etc didn’t come close to being as good as Mariah
+Joyciemon after a few performances like this, there were a lot of speculations in media on the authenticity of those whistle notes we heard on the album version, and she proved it that she can do it well in live performances afterwards. Especially after MTV unplugged, I remember Mariah said something like this in a magazine "now those critiques suddenly became my friends"
She used to avoid it back then specially in tv performances for two main reason: 1. vocal and health illness and insecurities while performing live (she was kinda shy back then and had scenic panic) and 2. because people from her company told her not to used them much, because some people could consider it "annoying" (she talked about it in a 2008 radio interview and many other times). Greeting (:
***まりにゃん She is fatigued from jet lag. Performing on the road is not easy. constant interviews & appearances. you can't abuse your vocal instrument & have nothing left for other shows.
Back in the days when she was humble, relatable, & her natural beauty matched her sweetness! It’s so sad that she’s so unrecognizable, today, because of all the plastic surgery she’s had to change, well everything about her, that was beautiful, and she just became so pretentious, and it’s not really about her music anymore, but this crazy diva image. I miss these days, but now, to quote Mariah, “I don’t know her!”💔🦋
+Rafael frança She's human. Some singers intentionally alter the way they sing their hits, for fun , to keep it fresh, or to "save" a portion of their voice that is overworked at the moment.
Tarie Nosworthy why do lambs excuse mc for not being able her famous high notes? Um she shouldn't be cutting out notes this early on her career. Whitney tore it up during her second album era.
No one gives a crap about what Whitney Houston did. And if you don't think Mariah didn't "tear it up" during her second album era, I suggest you watch every "If It's Over" performance, "Emotions" on Arsenio Hall, Soul Train and Des O'Connor Show, "Can't Let Go" on SNL and Soul Train, "Vision Of Love" on Oprah, etc. And unlike Miss Houston, Mariah refused to lip-synch on Soul Train.
She was struggling to sing in that vocal zone... She clearly was not a soprano, though she hitted very consistently and brightly, she always suffered to belt out those notes... Compete with Whitney (a natural soprano) was really hard... And yes, Mimi, you made it: you became one of the bests of all times.

Nice to hear Mariah speaking swedish
Even on a dodgy vhs tape she's stunning. #greatness
Hmmm... No whistle in the end. but improvised it with a strong adlib that's even better. Only pros can do that. Queen...
Quality music so she says wow. I love that... She says and I quote 'I wanna have a long career and sell quality music'
I’ve never heard a performance of “Emotions” like that one. I loved it 😍

Alcohol and cigarettes ruined her voice.
This is literally from 1991 from the BEGINNING of her career, so Sony “milking” her is irrelevant.
She sounded sick :( sucks she had to work even when not feeling well
It was God who gave her this talent ❤
So beautiful! ❤

Mariah's Countertenor I like MC but she's not on Whitney's level of high excellence. But, she was good in the 90s.

Is this a rearranged version of Best of my love by the emotions like a low key remix
Her voice was very abused and juiced out by Tommy Horribola.
Mariah's brother dated Bjork?!?!?! ZOMG lol. Small world!!!
Right? I was shocked!
Her brother didn't date Bjork the singer. Bjork is Icelandic and Mariah was discussing her friend from Sweden. The names are similar.
Such humble beginnings. Totally different person and voice now.
