Thank you guys for being the FIRST to show this bass alongside a guitar. I was so curious how it would sound, sonically compared to another acoustic 6 string. To me, it certainly still sounds professional to gig with, not to mention looks very easy to fret and play with the shorter scale. As Captain pointed out, it's definitely buzzy, but for the size I think it's pretty damn convincing. Very unique and cool idea! I still want Taylor to bring back their monster acoustic bass that sounded incredible from the early 2000s.
Some beautiful playing here, how often can any of us say we truly enjoy any one retailer's videos as much as we love those we get from Anderton's? Their web presence is immense, always well produced and always a pleasure.
I know this is 4 years old but I’m hoping someone will see this. Would absolutely love to see y’all do an updated Taylor GS mini video of all 4 options in the series. I rely on Andertons so much when I’m considering a guitar purchase.
I have owned both of these and they both are great. The Taylor 10e is my go to acoustic guitar for everything and I am not a beginner. Love both you guys but Pete's comment on a different video on how the tele bridge pickup is muscular and starts is wimpy was my fav!!!!!! You are so right Pete!!!!!!
I recently bought an Academy 10 (the non-electro model) as my first acoustic guitar and I think it’s great. I’m just learning (again) and even though I want to play hard rock / metal and own a good electric guitar, it continues to be the Taylor that I’m reaching for. It feels like a quality item. I did consider cheaper guitars and I know there are some good ones, but everywhere agreed about the Academy series being excellent, and I feel I made the right choice
I know I'm late to this, but I just played a Taylor Academy 10e, and it both feels and sounds fantastic. I can't believe it's considered an entry-level guitar.
It plays so well that it would absolutely be my first choice for anyone as a 2nd acoustic. Of course first it's too expensive for a lot of us., I truly will never be able to praise how much I love the academy series
I agree. In fact I love the solid tone I get from my 10e even better than my 414, as well as the comfort off the neck, so sold the 414 since I never used it as you're since getting the 10e.
The A10 is a fabulous guitar in my opinion. It has such a unique sound unplugged to my ears. And for the price it is a couple truckloads worth of guitar.
I love that mid-heavy bass tone - if they bring out a fretless, I imagine it could be a viable stand-in for an upright in the right context, and I would just have to get one... Honestly there were moments in this (like that bit of vibrato at 18:55) where it almost had that fretless tone already!
For those who want a more affordable alt to the Mini Bass, my Ibanez PNB14E uses the same strings (which are lovely to play), the scale is virtually identical, and has a very similar sound for just £250 or so new.
I can agree 100% that any guitar is a beginners guitar, but man, don't hold your breathe on the spouting manufacturers b.s. piece, that's pretty much his job lol.
Andertons is a shop and a shop is a place to sell things don't walk in expecting anything else to happen there . It is there job to move product . Now if you can tell me of another guitar retailer that puts as much back as Andertons I would love to here it. These videos are always about selling product no doubt but the way they are presented is fantastic as are the artists and production crew . Fuck me a little infotainment is a very small price to pay for the quality jammage and the amount of fun these videos bring.
Yeah, any guitar can be a beginners guitar, but who the hell is gonna drop 2 grand just to see if they like playing? thats called ruining a young player's bank account
Woo I had an Aria too!! Aria Pro II SL-ST-3, I still have it, but it is in pieces as I"m going to refinish it... the neck is great.. body was plywood... the pickups were odd... a blade magnet for the single coils.. from the 80's.. nice times.
About cheap guitars. I own a lot of resonably good guitars (my favourites being Takamine) and one day I just wanted to find out, whether these cheap supermarket guitars are worth anything. So, when this one discount supermarket chain called Hofer (the Austrian name for the Aldi chain) had an acoustic guitar set for 50€ I bought one. It was astonishingly good. Until the bridge came off, that is, which probably wouldn't have happened if I hadn't put on .012-.053 strings... But I agree that cheaper guitars are a bit like playing darts while drunk: You hit the bullseye every now and again but it is more likely you hit the wall...
That GS Mini Bass has an uncannily upright sound character. Intentional or planned I wonder? Nice either way. Well done Taylor absolutely... Almost instant Danny Thompson there 8^)
Dave Walsh I've played them they are very nice sound super bright and loud. But it's a very big body and they have a finished glossy neck. If you like that then you'll dig it. Sounds great though.
The Captain is right: Elixir strings last about three weeks with fairly extensive playing. I use Elixir strings on all of my [electric] guitars (Les Paul Traditional, Tele Deluxe Thinline, 2015 Les Paul Special). Otherwise, I would get only about three-to-five days out of a set of strings (playing three-to-five hours per day.) Given the price of strings these days, Elixir strings can save a guy a whole bag of money during the course the year. :)
Short conversation in my mind "I should really buy that bass, I've never owned a bass, and it can be really useful" "But you don't have money" "oh right...."
"i didn't know proper guitar maintenance so the neck started bowing" I'm sorry what?? I don't do anything other than play my guitar and it doesn't do that 😂 jeebus
hey pete since you know so much about martins can you please compare the martin road series OOO rs1 solid sapele to other martin road series guitars pls
The $100,000 question everyone has regarding acoustic basses is, can it hang at a campfire jam unplugged? (Because we're all campers, aren't we?). I'm guessing not. In which case, if you're talking about portability and having to amplify it anyway, then what's the point? Bring an electric bass. Or what makes this so special comparatively to say a U-Bass? 'Cause a U-Bass undoubtedly sounds bigger plugged in.
I can't find anything about this being 15/16 scale anywhere else. are you imagining it to be smaller due to the cutaway? Either way good for me, I want a dreadnought and have short arms.
Found stuff on it, even though it's not on the Taylor website or any of the press releases when it came out. It's 15/16ths (so same shape as Big Baby), but full thickness.
I know it's been a minute but I hope you haven't given up on guitar! Mandolin strings dig into your fingers WAY more than guitar strings, because they are all doubled up. Six string guitars have less tension and are way easier to play. Get you a cheap one set up with light gauge strings and you'll find it much more agreeable :) But with any stringed instrument, building up some callouses is just part of the gig. Won't take but a couple of months until you're completely used to them though!
I have a Taylor GS mini and a Martin 00x1ae . The GS mini is a better guitar. More full . Easier to play . And the gig bag is great . The 00x1ae did not even come with a gig bag . This GS mini base sounds great.
I figured the mini bass would be great for the kids to mess around on as 23.5" scale is more like a toy than a bass! but for the same price (£700, and £50 for the special strings!) you can buy an American Fender bass. This is a well presented demonstration but look how softly they have to play it to get a reasonable tone, completely negating the purpose of an acoustic instrument if one needs to plug it in to be heard. Is it just me or have Taylor missed something here?
Danish Pete is probably one of my favourite current players :)
I want to be Danish Pete when I grow up.
Thank you guys for being the FIRST to show this bass alongside a guitar. I was so curious how it would sound, sonically compared to another acoustic 6 string. Capn & Pete a winning combination
Absolutely love the don't stretch your strings tip!!! I have been stretching strings forever lol. Never again!!!! Thanks Pete!
that mini Bass Tayler sound sooooooo good !
Pete you majestic guitarist!

massive chub for Pete wearing glasses.
My OTP: Glass Pete X Pete
He is pretty blind without... :-)

I'm impressed with the Captain's bass playing.
Taylor had better start mailing them checks to Pete. This is one of the best dam product test video I've ever seen.
I know I'm late to this, but I just played a Taylor Academy 10e, and it both feels and sounds fantastic. I can't believe it's considered an entry-level guitar.

Cap, here some love to the way you handle that bass! It is not easy to play on a looper! Simple and effective! Well done
I actually like the Pete & Lee duet... for both alchemy/friendship and musicality ;)
Pete is my favorite guitarist, I could listen to an album of him just jamming
I love that mid-heavy bass tone - if they bring out a fretless, I imagine it could be a viable stand-in for an upright in the right context, and I would just have to get one... Honestly there were moments in this (like that bit of vibrato at 18:55) where it almost had that fretless tone already!
Pete's a lot more serious when the Captain is around ;-)
Agreed he doesn't seem relaxed and repeats what Lee says too much, looks nervous, only saying love his playing and all his videos
Well, we're all better behaved when the boss is around ;-)
Brad Bradstock Captain ain't Pete's boss! He just hires his services, surely? Peter's a pro player!
cuius regio, eius lingua
Lee was a bit more tense than with Rob too. Maybe they don't hang around as much.
That opening jam was sweet! I should try the glasses at work, maybe I will get promoted!
The captain playing bass? A miracle has happened
axearmorgames
Cap10 plays bass several times throughout the channel. He's played several times on the bass edition episodes.
P...eat!
Cap10!
Jams sounds so much better and musical with a bass!
THE CAPTAIN MEETS DANISH PETE! MAKE IT HAPPEN PLEEEAAAASSSSEEEE!!!
For those who want a more affordable alt to the Mini Bass, my Ibanez PNB14E uses the same strings (which are lovely to play), the scale is virtually identical, and has a very similar sound for just £250 or so new.
A dab hand at the bass, too. Is there nothing the Captain can't do?
What's it like on that high horse of yours? Why are you even here if you dislike Lee and Andertons so much?
+John Taylor How dare he sell things to fund this free guitar content for all us of to enjoy!
I can agree 100% that any guitar is a beginners guitar, but man, don't hold your breathe on the spouting manufacturers b.s. piece, that's pretty much his job lol.

I got fkin scared the video ended when the white screen appeared at 2 mins. Sigh of relief
Awesome playing guys. Great job.
Woo I had an Aria too!! Aria Pro II SL-ST-3, I still have it, but it is in pieces as I"m going to refinish it... the neck is great.. body was plywood... the pickups were odd... a blade magnet for the single coils.. from the 80's.. nice times.
We need a resonator paradiso
The intro was sick #GayForDanishPete
Wow! interactive video. Slappin tha bass.
They start talking about the Taylor GS Mini Acoustic Bass at 32:15
loved the bass, Captain played, to be honest!! :)
Nice playing finally for this lovely bass. I would like to see flat wounds be available. Let's spread the word to Taylor.
bring the captain in for the paradiso series more often, it's cool!
About cheap guitars. I own a lot of resonably good guitars (my favourites being Takamine) and one day I just wanted to find out, whether these cheap supermarket guitars are worth anything. I still find this entertaining after playing the video 20 times
Very cool. I want a Taylor GS Mini Bass. It's about $500
Butter. Butter. Butter. These are going to sell like hot cakes.
Is that Pete sneaking a bit of a Purple Rain influence in again? Come on, get on Sound Like for a Prince episode!
Rob Holiday Dying for a Sound Like Prince video!
Great episode, well done lads :)
That was a tasty groove that the beginning
Just wish Taylor would make a GS Mini Bass Fretless!
That's what your local luthier is for :)
Danish Pete rules, Period!
That GS Mini Bass has an uncannily upright sound character. Intentional or planned I wonder? Nice either way. Well done Taylor absolutely... Almost instant Danny Thompson there 8^)
17:05 well that was beautiful
So the guitar you play with a pick has no pickguard, and the guitar you playing with your fingers does.. GOT IT. Well done Taylor. : ) lol
pickguards are pointless anyway! if your guitar gets scratched it means your using it, if it doesn't, good for you ahah
I play my bass with a pick sometimes, and I like how the pick guard looks.
will you guys be able too showcase your left handed guitars & basses?
Would love to see your opinion on the Fender Sanoran guitar. Really looking at buying one but would love to see a vid in the style that you folks do.
Dave Walsh I've played them they are very nice sound super bright and loud. But it's a very big body and they have a finished glossy neck. If you like that then you'll dig it. Sounds great though.
Tell Taylor - we want a fretless version! :)
Dat bass sounds delicious
good content as always guys.
Awesomeness!
The Captain is right: Elixir strings last about three weeks with fairly extensive playing. Given the price of strings these days, Elixir strings can save a guy a whole bag of money during the course the year. :)
Can you guys do a comparison between the Academy and Martin X Series please?
if i had infinite money..i'd hire pete to play the bgm of my everyday life..
Short conversation in my mind "I should really buy that bass, I've never owned a bass, and it can be really useful"
"But you don't have money"
"oh right...."
As always informative and entertaining! BUT WHERE ARE THE FLORAL SHIRTS??
"i didn't know proper guitar maintenance so the neck started bowing" I'm sorry what?? I don't do anything other than play my guitar and it doesn't do that 😂 jeebus
Make a Dave Matthews sound like! :D Would love to see that!
I actually find the plain look very sexy, I wish some higher-end whole-solid guitars would be made like this.
Is Mick coming back to Acoustic Paradiso??
Absolutely...
These may have changed since then but the academy series have maple necks now
hey pete since you know so much about martins can you please compare the martin road series OOO rs1 solid sapele to other martin road series guitars pls
How does the 10e compare in price and quality to the Taylor 214CE?
The $100,000 question everyone has regarding acoustic basses is, can it hang at a campfire jam unplugged? (Because we're all campers, aren't we?). I'm guessing not. The strings on the bass look like they're spaced very far apart? 😲
dat outro jam
Well, if I learned nothing else from this, I learned I really need to go out and buy me a looper...
And this is how the Capitan starts to play Bass for rest of his life.:-)
Can you put nickel strings on it like elixir nanoweb strings for nornal electric bass? Because i really hate bronze nylon strings
Liked and subbed!
Go captain wooo
Why are the guitars miked and plugged in?
What are those cables? I want one
zeefour they look cool, also they are harder to be disconnected when you accidentally step on them
No idea why I'm watching this. Never even picked up a guitar. Tried to play a mandolin once and felt like my fingers were about to be sliced in half.
I know it's been a minute but I hope you haven't given up on guitar! Mandolin strings dig into your fingers WAY more than guitar strings, because they are all doubled up. Hey, can the MiniBass keep up with an acoustic guitar without amplification?
No
#DirtyPete ftw + nice jams lads
Les Claypool.
I have a Taylor GS mini and a Martin 00x1ae . The GS mini is a better guitar. More full . Easier to play . And the gig bag is great . The 00x1ae did not even come with a gig bag . This GS mini base sounds great.
Mick is a way better guitar player . Just saying .
heh heh heh the captain said he needs a pair
did pete buy a bass?
The bass belongs to the video room... But Pete does like it, maybe a little bit too much :-)
that acoustic sounds better plugged.
I know it's great and everything but for me £700 for the mini GS bass is way too much for what it is
Yeah, especially when its meant to be an entry level instrument :/
The Academy Series is meant to be entry-level. The GS Mini bass isn't.
pete kent? the mild mannered dane? and the captain has a nice bottom
I should imagine Mexicans have been building acoustic guitars a lot longer than Americans ?
Choke up, Cap, get that fatter fingerstyle tone!
pete is hot in a weird way
Lara Curado Agreed!
+Lara Curado you just made his day 😜
both great. but you gota reallly "love this thing" to deal with that fret buzz on nearly every note. I just can't. not for me.
I figured the mini bass would be great for the kids to mess around on as 23.5" scale is more like a toy than a bass! but for the same price (£700, and £50 for the special strings!) you can buy an American Fender bass. Is it just me or have Taylor missed something here?
I must say... Danish Pete kinda look like Rickie Gervais. I'm I right or totally off the rails here?
yeet
me early ! :3 yo pete!
lee is talking sooooooo slow
Well, I like Captain, but do not let him play bass in videos. He does not show what the instrument is capable of. :/
On the other hand, when Pete is demoing something he's doing things that I'll never be capable off.
I think it's a fair trade-off.
Fair enough. :D
