90% of people have no Acoustic amp, and then 80% of them are unhappy with their sound. that's 80 percent of 90 which is 72%
72% of guitarists are unhappy with their electro-acoustic sound
Your too clever, we dont like that around these parts
Houston Hilburn 72% of electro acoustic guitar owners are unhappy with their sound.
ah, yes, we just need to know mick's number of guitarists who have electro acoustics
then we're flying
The real question should be....how many people with acoustic-E guitar/amp combos...for kitchen party type scenarios (which I'm guessing is a LOT) are perfectly fine with their under $1,000 setup?
It's funny watching Mick fight against "so". Keep fighting the good fight.

Do I have to watch the whole thing to understand this comment?
Good video. The best sound I've gotten from my acoustic guitar (Taylor 714ce with a Seymour Duncan magmic replacing the ES2) is through a Fender Blues Jr, with volume rolled off, fat switch engaged, master up, bass up, mids a little under 12 and treble a little over 12. Sounds awesome. This with a little of the mic mixed in (20ish percent or so).

When you find out that Mick and Pete know Ben Howard... another awesome acoustic video gents!
'So' or any other word used as a brain pause, before you go onto say something else is perfectly acceptable. Otherwise you would just keep talking, almost without thinking, making it difficult to listen to. In regard to amps, i am sure you could use either, just adjusting the settings.
That moment when your electric guitar sounds worse than an acoustic with overdrive...
I play my acoustic through my bass amp when i want do do some loops or something. Sounds alot better than through a normal guitar amp in my opinion, and as i'm a student i don't really have the budget to buy a real acohstic amp.
I play acoustic through a solid state Randall Bass amp with a fishman preamp.. Sounds fantastic.
I’m in the middle of a similar specimen because of Mo the TX loop and my use of pedals
Can you guys do a budget acoustic/ electro acoustic-shootout ?
Hello Guys! Could you please do a episode on fun pedals for acoustics!?!?! I have heard wah pedals and reverbs etc used on other youtube videos and it looked like great fun... thanks!!! I love Andertons TV!!!
I just realised you have some pedals in the episode.... AWSOME !!!!:) I had only just clicked start when I wrote the first comment
But I still love Andertons TV!!;)
GuitarGirl there's an old that pedal show episode that deals with effects and acoustics
We can try that for sure... Watch this space...
I was really surprised at how well the acoustic guitar came through the electric guitar amp. Next Time I’m looking at amps I’ll have to take a look at the Fender Deluxe. Really had a fuller, deep, clean sound.
Overdrive through the Boss...
Reminded me of my playing Metallica on my acoustic guitar through a Roland Micro Cube R.fier settings when I do not own an electric guitar yet... XD
R-Fier ... nostalgia strikes
Im literaly doing the exact same thing same amp ahahahaha
I didn't notice the so and now you've pointed it out I can't unhear it
Yes, same here.... that's it! Ruined in for me.... forever! Argh!!!
This was awesome thanks guys, and yes, more acoustic stuff please!
Wow, the two amps blended sounds magical!
I loved the chuck ragan shout out in this episode. #hotwatermusic
Pete can you please do a demo and review of your hot rod deluxe? Your settings, etc. Thanks.
In answer to Pete's question, you can have 500% MORE of something, you cannot have 500% OF something.
Is Ariel coming back to do some playing with Pete anytime soon?
+dakhaas300 Yep. Watch this space!
I've always considered them acoustic electric, and electro acoustic like a fender acoustisonic tele or a t5 etc.. it's really a whole genre and not meant for just some basic strumming, but for finding new ways to play hybrid.
Could you guys possibly do a small body acoustic guitar roundup? Sizes like 00 and/or similar to the Little Martin and Taylor GS mini.
Now try an electric guitar on using an acoustic amp.
Timothy McKane this is what I was hoping to see. That jacked up purple Tele of Petes into the Bosch.
Timothy McKane Tele!!
It'll sound good everytime. Where as your tube amp will sound AMAZING 30min a day. Tubes amps never sound the same everytime you turn them on (re dial everytime I swear). Solid state will always do the same thing you want
When I play I just want the sound my acoustics make, but louder. None of these did it for me and the Fender sounded like someone just needs to but an electric guitar to go with it. No mention of Marshal or Fishman?
Exactly. Why is this so fg difficult?
you 2 always make my day when i see your videos. nice. keep on. from Puerto Rico.
Boss singer or singer pro are the best on the market imo... harmony on voc looper on guitar channel 60 and 120 watts. Awesome amps
Minute 26:28 that sound with the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is 👌🏽 amazing 🙌🏼. What pedals are they using? Also, forget that Boss amp. Use an A,B,Y pedal and connect straight to the PA and to the Hot Rod. That’s the sound I want for me.
Please go back to the old thumbnails! Love the channel guys.
"So" - Mick Taylor (2017)
I love your videos and I like this how to please do a beginner's guide for buying an acoustic guitar
When he said row with an acoustic guitar it reminded me of an episode of I love Lucy
Sounds like Ben Howard? He's cool!
Could you do a video on acoustic guitars with built in microphones? Sometimes it is really hard to find one, especially "semi-affordable"?
It really is difficult being a teenager and trying to find an acoustic guitar that does not sound like shit pluged in, between 500-750 pounds
The only good sound i have heard is the microphone-pickup combo, but usually the microphon will sound just as good
TheFrizor why buy an acoustic? just buy an electric with an amp, then buy an acoustifier pedal (idk what its called) to get that acoustic sound
That, kind of, makes no sense to me... I get what you are saying, but an electric guitar with an acoustifier pedal can not sound like an acoustic guitar; electro-acoustic guitars have the sam problem; the real acoustic sound does not come out of the pickup, but the sounhole
Secondly, (this is going to be veeery subjective) having my favourite guitar player be Tommy Emmanuel, loveing all the other acoustic guitar players and sounds, and being an acoustic guitar player I am not looking to buy something that is trying (usually badly) to imitate an acoustic guitar, but for a guitar that i can plug in simply to make it be louder in a band or stage situation without having to sit in one place in front of a mic
I do not mean any disrespect, and I appreciate your idea, please dont be mad, I wasnt trying to sound snappy, or mean
Cheers man :)
Just buy the best sounding acoustic guitar that feels good to you, then get something like the Fishman Matrix blend and install it yourself, its really not that hard. It took me about 5 mins, but i didnt bother installing the under saddle pickup, so i cant blend the sounds. I think it sounds ok, but if you really care about sound a par of good condencer mics is the way to go.
Since you like Tommy, why not just get what he use, the Maton AP5 Pro?
Thank you very much :)
The problem is with my budget, and the fact that I am not that experienced, and I am afraid to buy a quite expensive guitar (been saving up for a long time), and then having to cut it just to have place for the nobs and interface; it just makes me feel uneasy
I have been looking around for the AP5 Pro, but apparently its a weird size so it doesnt fit most guitars
Again, thank you for your insight
did you record this last year? I was struck by the smallness of that room :)
We shot this just before we finished the new room... It is a lot smaller!!! :)
Sorry to be a pedant or repeat if someone has already covered this, but I want to point out the Vox Clyde McCoy Wah-Wah Pedal (Clyde's name was only used for promotion and Clyde had nothing to do with the use or development of the pedal). It was so named because it emulated the sound Clyde produced with the "wah-wah" trumpet mute. His original was so popular that he licensed the King Instrument Company to manufacture and market the mute.
but will it djent?
Sure...
I run my acoustic through an fender acoustasonic and a fender super champ 82, blend them with delay and overdrive and it sounds fantastic. Good to see other options and a video about that sort of thing.
Great tutorial!!! Got to say I love both for different reasons. That's why I own both acoustic and electric amps and I basically use them interchangeably.
20 years ago you could hardly even find an acoustic amp, so everyone used chorus phaser flanger or some sort of acoustic guitar sim or even add a piezo disc for warmth. I even have occasionally seeked out the quack sound of UST for some recording purposes.
That sounded great and I just remembered that I've got both an acoustic and electric amp with some effects. I'm gonna have to try "blending" them.
When you realize Andertons, TPS, Rabbea, Chappers & more etc are ALL just one BIG channel.
Americans have trouble with teamwork. Local musicians are a pain in the ass. So competitive. This would never work with us lol. So we just get two/three pair combos of people being communal
Also, Fender acoustics??? Ewww
surprised Jon Gomm wasn't mentioned on this one, he uses a lot of drive and sounds great!
I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but - where do you get those shirts? 😀
My PRS SE A40E sounds fantastic plugged in to my Fender Hotrod Deluxe III.
I want to hear feedback wah goodness with an electro-acoustic!
Its actually really fun to mess with lol
15:16 thank me later
It appears that you do not know how to set up the Boss singer Pro amp. Plus the volumes are to different which adds to the electric guitar amp. I was not impressed with this video and demo.
I was wondering if they had Costco’s in the UK. By the looks of those bloody shirts, the answer is sadly yes.
Only punters and thieves wear those mate!
And rear gunners.
Sound like Kurt Cobain from MTV unplugged
Really like the idea of mixing the sound through both amps.
you guys should do a "sounds like" version for acoustic...
14:39 Pete looks at Mick the way I look at fried chicken.
I'm a singer songwriter looking for a 2 channel amp for my Yamaha fg-750 and vocals. I like the idea of the Fender deluxe, or other electric guitar amp, the acoustic amps wash out the sound I'm going for. If you have time to listen to one of my songs (on my channel) and suggest an amp (and other gear) I'd appreciate any advice.
What pedals were used to make Pete's playing sound so amazingly electric at the start of the video? help is much appreciated
Alright so i got the Mud Honey.. Still not sure what the other one is though
What are the stools you are using in this video? With the new video room you changed them to standard drummer stools, but I am helplessly looking for something like in this video.
Sorry for being completly off topic, but if you sell them, maybe I'll buy them from you?!
Heya,
when I'm touring I run a xlr to FOH, a jack through a stereo delay, mono runs into a bass combo and the other side runs through a volume pedal, then an od pedal and into a 1x12 tube guitar combo.
You should really try a bass amp for acoustic guitar, it's kinda like mixing aer and electric amps...
I would love to see some pocket-size/battery powered/small size multieffects shootout. I mean multieffects like: Line 6 Pocket POD/Korg Pandora Mini/Zoom G1ON etc. :) Greetings from Poland and have a nice day! :)
So….
If you want to use overdrive with an acoustic guitar, then use an electric guitar amp….
Therefore…. My Marshall AS50R acoustic amp may sit unused, if I want a bit of drive
I may try that A/B setup eventually for that purpose....May be overkill though, bringing yet MORE gear to a show
WHAT PEDALS DID THEY USE????????????????????????????????????????????
I believe Monte uses Compression to drive his acoustic. Amazing player Mick you comped it pretty dang good
Was glad to hear Monte get a shout out here. I've heard him live with his trio several times, and he's an incredible player. Not what most people would consider an "acoustic" guitar tone, but he really rocks.
Monte is an example of how tone comes from the hands every bit as much as it does from equipment....Montes tone, in the wrong hands, would be terrible.
can i plug my acoustic guitar into an acoustic guitar amp? yes, but i wouldnt
Wondering what the "Leila?" acoustic di with preamp Pete mentions using is?
Lehle acouswitch
So I hear the boss amp is advertised at 120 watts but is actually 50w. Wtf? Lol is this true?
I've heard a lot about the Fishman loudbox, does it sound similar to the Boss?
Similar yes. But the loudbox is killer
im plaing my lag t80dc and my fender 60 dce over a marshall mg cfx 15 and im the happy with it marshall amps are awesome i have 4 channels but like 8 channels and im super satisfied with it...i play on the marshall crunch channel and the overdrives you just need to know how to control your feedback sound...its like a active pickup for normal guitars...i love blues/rock/metal and i love the clean sound on it :) but that is just what i think
try a marshall for that
+Matko Max Pogačić jon gomm uses that
+Matko Max Pogačić not the marshall i dont know that i mean a overdriven acustic listen to hey child
to get rid of the nasty piezo sound: get a DPA clip mic ! it can do wonders yet few people know about them ...
Undersaddle pick-ups are to harsh, fit a K&K mini in a j200 and weep !!!
This is good! I like the idea. I once ran a Takamine Pro 1 through a Soul Food OD into a Super Champ XD combo and got some great acoustic blues tones out of it on low volume, but I had to use an extra long lead. As soon as I got within 20 feet it would squeal feedback like hell. lol
I have a ZT Lunchbox Acoustic but I have never used it to shape my guitars' sound, only as a mini-PA for small gigs and a monitor for slightly larger ones. Not that it sounds bad, but I prefer the DI'd sound of my Takamine guitars. And I've got a Zoom acoustic pedal, in case I want some reverb and/or chorus... I've also played them through electric amps when I was too lazy string up another line to the desk...
A funny side note: The acoustic resonance on the Boss (I think that was the name) sounds a lot like the exciter my Takamine EF 261 has...
Btw., Teenage Dirtbag uses a quite distorted acoustic guitar in the chorus.
About rowing: There is a kickstarter project that will make carbon fibre guitars, they should be ok with water (except for maybe the electronics...).
Cordoba Fusion 14 into a Rivera Sedona 55. All tube, high gain channel for the Les Paul, clean channel for the jazz box and Cordoba. Sounds great. The only problem is that it weighs almost as much as a Twin Reverb, but that's the price for premium sound.
Pretty sure Kurt uses a twin reverb at the unplugged gig??
What is the exact Fender amp you are using here please?
90% of people play electric-acoustic guitar x 80% of electric-acoustic guitar players complain = 72% of people (who play guitar) complain about their electric-acoustic sound
Definitely agree that you need to plug into an Amp and not just house PA system for an acoustic amp. I just did a gig and I used a Laney amp 65D acoustic amp and then out through an XLR cable into the open house speakers through a mixer. The sound through house speakers and my amp filled the busy bar and restaurant beautifully. I received positive feedback from the customers,
How about a Paradiso which demos ONLY acoustics and different effects pedals (types rather than makes) in the context of some of Danish Pete's looping skills and ideas about setting up an FX train?
To answer the title question, I just put in a fishman saddle transducer pickup on my gigging nylon string, and a Seymour Duncan pickup in my metal string dreadnought I play live with. Otherwise if in the studio I just use microphones
I love the latest range of Roland/Boss amps.......but not that one! I was thinking about it for a while but it doesn’t sound good on this. I prefer the sound of the Fender. My Roland Blues Cube Stage sounded great with acoustics.
Very interesting demo using the Fender and Boss amps and laced with humour as a bonus. I believe that the Boss Singer Pro is a premium acoustic amp. Being new to acoustic amplication, an explanation as to why you have a boost pedal would be helpful as well as what device you used to split the guitar preamp signal. I presume the boost pedal may be due to the guitar signal splitting to both amps. It seems that setting the EQ is matter of experience. Using both amps sure fills the sound spectrum. Flying over the "pond" to jam with you sure would be fun.
Hi guys. How would it go plugging an acoustic into an effects loop return?
Good question. We will feed that over to the guys.
it's ok, but what happens is you have no EQ on the amp, and limited volume control
Jaymz Ruggiere Don't the preamps in electro acoustics cover that though?
Rob Holiday i run my accoustic via a fender accoustosonic twin speakers but the loop is down in volume with both guitars with pre amps !the boss accoustic and And I iagine other nowadays have built in loopers !
John Graydon Thank you!
Have you guys check out the LR Baggs acoustic pedals? They have a VI and a Session pedal. And both are amazing and worth adding to your arsenal of pedals.
ya i use to have acoustic amps. didnt make much since to keep them, when i wanted neve and grace preamps built into my pedalboard. along with my "electric"" stompboxes. i know what am i doing right? all my favorite artists didnt follow rules, popular or not. If i followed rules i would have gave up on music along time ago. in fact if everybody followed rules or knew what exactly they were doing we would have way less then half the music out there..atleast any worth listening to. we certainly wouldnt have any we could relate to. Human error and having the balls to plug your acoustic into anything electric guitar plugs into, and way more is where expression and innovation lies, not stuck in the last 100 years. Mold ur unplugged sound first tho totally. Dont even think about plugging until you do. I didnt for years. i chose to learn slow tho. so whatever the time may be. Anybody watching this video cuz they're un sure cuz they cant imagine atleast alil, where they're sounds gonna go by plugin in, u need to go sell ur amp sit back on ur bed and play ur blues. whatever they may be. Play for another 10,000 hrs, or more. if your here like me cuz you love these guys, and you like hearing EXCELLENT playing then cool, but no one on youtube, will ever give you your heart and soul. Only limitations. ✌
so things I understood from video to sum up : if u are having a acoustic gig totally unplugged go with Boss . Or if u want to spice things up a bit electric amp. Am I right? because boss with driven, sounds awful.
Can you guys do a review of those acoustic amplifying/sound directing funnel things that you place in the sound hole? if you know what i'm talking about...
I kid you not, I was just looking at acoustic amps and for UA-cam examples. Just saw this was uploaded. Weird coincidence.
I have always thought I didn't like the sound of piezo pickups, but maybe I just don't like the sound of acoustic amps.
Interesting video, thanks! Here's another idea: when I'm using the acoustic (LR Baggs M1 Active on a Lowden).I run out of the XLR on the back of a Peavey Classic 20 Minihead, all valve of course, through a DI into either a PA or indeed the home hi-fi at low practice volumes, so you get the valve warmth through (relative) hi fi speakers, and it suits the acoustic guitar really well IMHO. You could say it's kind of a hybrid use of the amp - worth checking out if your electric guitar amp offers this kind of facility.
Some of those crunch sounds through the Fender were pretty fun - that said, what this video has done most is remind me how cripplingly fussy I am about acoustic guitar sounds...
That said, now I think about it, the nicest live acoustic sound I've got from my guitar was probably actually through some TINY little Fender electric amp... Granted, it wasn't loud by any means, but given the size of the room (or rather, the deck - this was at the folk club held on board the Cutty Sark!) it didn't need to be.
What pedals are they using???????????????
how would a T5(z) with acoustic strings/acoustic pickups, run through these same 2 amps simultaneously , compare
I prefer acoustic amp, DI into front of house, or acoustic preamp into PA. What i usually if possible is use my acoustic amp which has a direct out, so i run that to the PA, but i can still hear my amp for a reference.
what are your views on the other way round? I mainly play accoustic but also put my strat with a compressor pedal through my aer compact 60. sounds OK to me a warm clean electric tone
What pedal where you using to switch back and forth from the two amps. Also what were the two effect pedals? I could see that one was the T rex Mud Honey.
Hello guys please which 'Chris video' are you referring to? can you link me please? Thanks
What's the amp Pete prefers? I could not understand him clearly. He said AI or something like that.
it''s kinda strange when you have a pause from playing to watch a guitar/acoustic paradiso and you find yourself munching picks with pete
Great Experiment.... I have searched for splitting an output of acoustic guitar - one for nature sound and the other for crunch electric guitar amp tone. This video makes me sure that I would get nice backing guitar tone using both electric guitar and mixer tone on acoustic guitar. Thanks Guys!!
Can't believe I never thought to try this..
I usually blend my Vox AC15 with Marshall DSL40C for electric, & use a Fishman Loudbox acoustic amp for acoustic.
Just tried my Cole Clarke Angel (with internal 3way blend) into the Vox/Marshall then Fishman/Marshall & it sounds EPIC !!
Very inspired now, thanks guys 👍🏻
Can I use a 'Boss DD-3 Digital Delay' pedal with the 'Boss Acoustic Singer Live' amp?
Want to hear a tremendous electrified, overdriven acoustic sound? Check out Willie and the Bandits! Went to see them last week and they were amazing!
Completely failing to mention a compressor or reverb, which is what most musicians playing live will used with an electric acoustic.
I often found I could get a pleasing sound with an electro into a nice big Fender valve amp - I found this video interesting, thanks guys.
what does Lindsey Buckingham run? Saw a liver concert with fleetwood mac and it looks like a small bodies acoustic but with a magnetic pickup in the sound whole?
www.premierguitar.com/articles/Rig_Rundown_Lindsey_Buckinghameverything you ever needed to know
Would love a session on acoustic guitar and equalizer pedals. Not sure if you recommend them. Thanks
