I've played tons of acoustic guitars and I really don't think I've ever played anything under $1000 that sounds and feels better than my 10e. I have never even plugged it in. It feels like butter in your hand and sounds amazing. I played about 15 guitars blind at guitar center and had my wife keep handing me ones while I kept my eyes closed. This one sang to me and went home with me immediately. Do yourself a favor and try one.
I just did the same thing. I knew right when I played it that it was the one I wanted. Nothing else compared.
Amazing how people try to present this as a 'beginner' guitar. After playing this and other guitars 3x the price the 10e sounded way better. This is a damn fine guitar for ANYONE.
Just bought the 10e yesterday, and love it. I have a bigger Taylor, and was in the market for more of a travel guitar that I could take to the beach, camping, easily throw in the back of the car, etc. I was initially torn between this and a GS Mini Mahogany. I played all the different tone wood GS minis, and liked Mahogany the best. However, after picking up this simple small scale dread, I realized this is exactly what I wanted. In my opinion, the tone of this trumps the GS mini by quite a bit. Very balanced, and more bass than a GSM, while you still get the classic Taylor bright sound (not too overpowering). The beveled arm rest is very nice, and makes it easy to play for hours. Looking forward to taking this thing out and about, and with how comfortable and easy to play it is, this might be the guitar I play the most now.
Hi,, are you still happy with it?
@@TheGreenguy85 I've had mine 2 year now and love it. The tone it gives is stunning for the money, and playability is great
@@alexzandz Got mine about 4 months ago.. and I cant agree more.. best guitar I ever owned!
Does it sound full?
I guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
Been playing 50 years. Played a bunch of guitars in Guitar Center acoustic room and bought the 10e. Super comfortable and playable with great tone.
I've had mine for just over 5 years now. I am as happy today as I was the day I bought it. Don't let that price fool you. It sounds like a Taylor because it is one!
The sound of this guitar is so deep, consistent and beautiful! I think I know what my new guitar is going to be!) Thanks for the awesome review!)
Bought this guitar today for 599 euros. Its damn good. Always wanted to buy a Taylor and its far more good than I expected. In love with this baby❤️
This is by far my favorite guitar to play. So easy to play, sounds great, I just love it. I bought it as a beginner and have since 'upgraded', but I just can't let this one go. It's perfect.
I played one these today at my local music store. As a beginner, I was impressed with the comfort and ease of play. The action was comfortable and chords rang out true without any buzz. Not at all like the Ibanez v50 I've been trying to learn with. I am considering getting one. Just have to justify the $599 to myself.
well look at it like a long time investment. If it plays well and sounds good( which these do bought one for my boy and I own a 814ce but love playing this! ) then it is price that is worth it. With a good playing and sounding guitar you will practice and play more than with your Ibanez. I know this! plus quality! same build quality and neck design as the high end Taylors. IF it ever needed a neck reset can be done in around 20 minutes. The Ibanez?? throw guitar away as it is not worth the price of a glue in reset.
i decided to get the taylor 114 instead. i felt that the sound was more dynami
@@jonahkidwell702 I can help you justify your purchase. In EU the academy costs 699 euros(best price from the internet). Thats 100 euros more. The Taylor 114e costs 799 euros and the Taylor 114ce 899 euros. Also the diy neck reset makes these guitars a bargain if you consider the second market value and the average salary in USA.
what's the name of that second tune you were playing?! beautiful tune!
I bought this guitar a few days ago. I absolute love it.
I am not beginner player do you prefer this guitar? I am thinking to buy this guitar at abroad I dont have oppurtinity to play this guitar. Is it beginner guitar ? do you have idea ?
I know I shouldnt ask " do you prefer ". I should try this at music shops but there isn't a oppurtinity to try. In my country It's hard to find left handed guitars fuck this shit
Tuna Korkmaz this is like a $650 guitar, you can get a good sounding acoustic for like $200-$350 but it won’t sound this good. Taylor’s are the best sounding guitars out there. So not a “beginner” guitar in my opinion.
I paid $689.00 for mine plus PA sales tax, and that was the going price early in the year but now I see this guitar is on sale. I just got mine the beginning of the summer time and it's a really nice playing guitar, and I chose it over a Gibson Semi Hollow Body Electric that sold for $1100.00. This guitar fingered smoother, felt better to hold, and is amplified so best of both worlds. Strum it at the beginning of the neck for a sharper elec. guitar sound or let it mellow out and strum it over the hole, that is my take on this guitar. I got mine at my local Music Store which has been around for 30 years where I got my first ampeg as a kid and they showed me this and 4 other guitars after I had laid out my parameters of roughly what I wanted. I like it as much, if not more than my Fender Stratocaster Solid Body Electric 3 pick up, but they both have a place on their stand in my music room.
Just bought the 10E a few days ago. I tried the 12E as well, but I found the 10E had more full bass sound to it. I love this thing, I cant stop playing it, and my electric guitars are getting a nice break. BTW.... I first bought a Martin DJR, and returned it to get this.... the fit and finish on the Martin is not so good, however I'm very fussy. The Taylor is absolutely flawless!
Does it feel tiny in your hands like a youth guitar?
@@redlycan23 No, it feels like a perfect size honestly.
Just bought this after comparing it to 3 Martins in the price range. Not even close.
Just checked one today. It's even better than my 1300$ martin no kidding.
Then your martin must be ineffective
I know. I have tried a $2500 Martin and it didn't feel like 2500
Great video, watched a ton of A10 videos... you seem to be one of the only ones who knows how to mike a guitar
Just pick one up today and wow! Love it. Amazing guitar.
I am starting out I am sold on this Taylor 10e - getting mine next week , I will sure I will enjoy this better (was practicing on a Ibanez PF17ECE) . Thanks Chris
Why u sell this?
@@muhammadihzahutajulu I wanted a more premium guitar that feels and sounds better.
@@Shauna.l.j how ur experience with the taylor?
@@muhammadihzahutajulu Feels amazing. More comfortable when holding, sounds better, Makes me want to play more. I dont think I will sell this one :)
@@Shauna.l.j have u ever played taylor big baby or martin dx1e? Iam confused which i will buy of this Three.
Great video! Such a great travel guitar! Such a comfortable one to play on and sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Im getting this guitar! My acoustic of allmost 9 years is on its dying legs.. saddle is like"nope, im out" and is slowly bending, One of these days ill come home from work and its just dangeling in its strings.. Ill migh afford it in a month or so, but my other hobbies : "eating" and "living indoors" is fucking expensive...
Loved your mariachis history!!
Love those harmonics 8:04
Is it worth buying the 10e vs. the 10, purely for the built-in tuner if there are no plans to ever plug it in? Also, does an acoustic-electric vs. acoustic have a different sound?
Have had this for a year now, it’s a great guitar. Just wondering how far up the Taylor line I would have to go to get a guitar that sounds better. Any ideas.
This guitar really play like a les paul? I heard the neck is very awesome
It's got everything I'm looking for except a pick guard.
Dale G. Did you buy though?
You can easily add a pickguard.
$8
Nice vid man , I get to discover this guitar, but now I am in a dilemma...If I've 650 bucks should I buy this guitar or a GS Mini?
The GS Mini is a smaller guitar with a smaller scale length. It's a great guitar. But if you are new to guitar, you may not want to train your hand to the smaller scale length, as the frets are closer together and makes playing some more advanced stuff a little tough if you have a bigger hand or longer fingers.
Hello , this is amazing review, but i need your help, i from mexico and i want to buy a taylor, but I want to know what you recommend me or what would be the difference between these two: taylor academy 10e or taylor 110e.
I hope you can help me , thanks so much
The 110e is a full sized/full scale guitar whereas the 10e is a 5/16 scale as mentioned with a deeper body than the big baby. If this is your first guitar, either one would be good. From there you can figure out what you like and where you want to go.
I believe you are quoting Taylor's website by saying it's 4 5/8 " deep which would make it the depth of a full size dread but it is definitely not. It is closer to the depth of a big baby. Put an A10 next to a full size dread and compare depth, the A10 is closer to a big baby depth than it is a full size dread.
Is an Academy 10e and better beginner guitar than the GS Mini? Would really like to get your opinion.
Yes. I played both in the store, and this one is FAR better.
@@bethk.7372 Thanks, Just bought the 10e no need to plug in sounds great as is.
How can you hold a guitar for that long without playing it? I have no self control apparently.
It's a difficult task (:
I just tried this guitar at a Guitar Center. Surprisingly it sounded better to me then the next level up 100 series. It just has a fuller more resonating sound. I don't know if it has to do with Sapele vs. Walnut, or maybe because this barebones design has no polished finish on it which lets it vibrate better, but I can literally feel this guitar resonating when I strum it and the sound quality is beautiful.
Amazing playing
Your finger style is amazing!!!!
Thanks!
do you have the notes of those things you played? I have seen you play them often, and I really like it
goodness gracious thank you for the kind words. I do not have tablature for these pieces. Perhaps at some point I can take the time to write it all down. -Chris McKee
Mine arrived today, sweet little guitar to compliment my 00015m.
Is it good enough to gig? They keep saying it is a beginners guitar.
I noticed this series does not have a strike plate. As a beginner my current Yamaha's strike plate is really scarred from my strumming. I would really scratch up the face without a strike plate. Can they be installed?
I’ve had one for 10 months now and love it. The learning journey is fun. How do you determine if you should get it “set-up”?
If it buzzes (and bothers you) or feels (subjectively) hard to play. If you aren't sure, just got to a store and ask or try out a bunch of others and see if they feel easier to play.
As far as a fingersyle approach, would you recommend this or the A12? They kind of both sound good to me but thats on UA-cam. Haven't seen one in person yet.
I just bought the Taylor 10e yesterday to use as a "couch guitar" that I don't have to worry about while at the same time having a very comfortable guitar that plays with ease and sounds great. I can leave it on a stand for handy practice - just grab and play. I have a few very high end Martin dreadnoughts which I have to be very careful with in order to keep them pristine. Of course this Taylor doesn't have the tone of those expensive Martins, but it still has a very respectable full and resonant tone while being Uber-easy to play. Fingerstyle? That is the only way I play! Love the response of this little guitar for finger style. I do wish the fingerboard width was 1-3/4 " at the nut, but I don't have any problem with this fingerboard at all. My old worn-out arthritic fingers love the easy action of this neck. The A12 is theoretically designed more for fingerstyle, but I have found that the tone of the dreadnought body gives me the fuller, beefier tone I crave, and the lows don't overpower the highs as is often the case with dreadnought body guitars. Perhaps this is because this 10e is a bit smaller than a full sized dread. Best advice: Go to a Taylor dealer and try the different models side-by-side and see what you think. You'll love the Academy series Taylors. They are great sounding, easy playing comfortable guitars for a great price.
To be honest....was not a Taylor fan......until the GS MINi and Academy Series . These guitars have the pre-amp with built in tuner that I just love. These guitars (to my ears) also sound warmer ( which I like ) . I tried both the Academy 10E & Academy 12E in a local music shop. Both sound GREAT .....different ....but both sound nice , play great, and comfortable. So .... I guess one would have to buy both .... LOL ! ! ! :-)
Is Taylor selling a pickguard specifically for the A10?
If you are looking for a specific pick guard I would recommend you click on the link below (:
www.taylorguitars.com/taylorware/category/for-your-guitar/parts/pickguards
No way is this a starter guitar….I have a 12e and have been playing for 48 years……I would have loved to have started on these guitars but it would have been too expensive…..I’ll definitely be keeping mine.
I really, really like the things you play!!!! Do you have a chorrds or notes? Maybe make a video about it 👌🏽👌🏽
im a 66 year old man 6 ft. 200lbs. never played a guitar in my life. i think the 10 would be a good one for me to learn on but my fingers are kind of wide at the ends do you think i should try something with a wider nut width
Yes. 1.75 inch nut width would be better for you. Check the Martin's.
Sounds really good
please please please what is the song at 9:20 its so good
Just bought the 10e after comparing it to 3 different Martins in the same price range. Not even close, the Taylor was louder, more resonant & easier to play. Case closed.
Hello, I am a beginner but I find that the sound of the 110e is better. But is it easier to start playing with the academy 10e?
Both are good . Buy the 114
damn that was really helpful thanks!
Thank you
Welcome!
I'm not a beginner, just not wealthy. I would love to buy a Taylor 214ce, but I cant afford it. So Im looking at this model or an Alvarez AG70CEAR, but Idk which one is truly the better guitar.
between this and guild 240ce, which is better?
pretty cool that you were in a mariachi band.
Is it the same depth as the grand auditorium taylor and how does it sound in comparison?
Hi There ! Somebody let me know is that smaller than 110e. Thank you !
It's a little bit smaller.
Does this guitar have easy playability? I’m looking for a guitar that I can play for a long time without my hands cramping up. I really like the looks and sound of this one, and it’s right in my price range.
Really easy. It's quite a short and narrow feeling neck. Action is relatively low for a an acoustic. Honestly love mine. The value for money is unreal. I bought mine new but they can be had now for even less second hand. The only thing is that it doesnt look flashy in the slightest, but if that doesnt bother you go for it
I'm one year into playing my Academy 10e and changed the strings, but I don't have the same nice full body sound as the stock strings. Which are best for loading up this guitar? Thanks community
The guitar comes strung with 12-53 Elixir light 80/20's. If you liked the tone of the guitar when it was new, replace the old strings with the same strings. Be sure to re-string the guitar properly so as not to kill them prematurely. If you are not sure how to do this, watch the video on the Taylor website.
@@1funkybasslady I guess I hadn't appreciated the sound and feel , always being a campfire guitarist.. But now, cleaning and conditioning the fretboard and guitar and stressing the strings upon install makes a huge difference .. And humidity levels etc.
@@smrob I'm not sure what you mean be "stressing the strings" but it IS important to crimp the strings at the peg before cutting them off in order to keep the wraps from slipping resulting in killing the strings. Try different brands of strings to find the tonal response of the guitar you are looking for. Good luck!
Hi, I want to upgrade my actual guitar, but I wont pay more than $650... Love the taylor sound but I am between the Academy 10e and the Big Baby... any advice? Which one is better?
I wouldn't say either of them is necessarily better, However the Baby is 15/16 size so less money goes into it. I think the best way to make decisions like this is to have someone play you an audio sample of each without telling you which is which and making your decision based off that.
I played them both today at a GC and they have a similar sound but the 10e has a bigger range of tone on both treble and the bass ends. 10e all the way.
@@dumbaldtrump4533 is it a full sized body?
@@PillsBuryDoughBoy_ yup
@@dumbaldtrump4533 No, it isn't. Watch the video again!
I own this guitar but it doesn't have the headstock overlay for some reason
You have got a newer version of that model. Same ist true for the Tylor Baby. Headstock overlay design change from black to brown.
Its perfect I have tried it, but i think it is not that good for fingerstyle in compares to the 114e ?
Did you bought 114e or A10e? I m in the exact same situation and i can t seem to decide man. I don t know which one sounds better
@@davethebrave0 I'm late to this party, however...I have the 10e, and I only play fingerstyle. Love the guitar! If you have large fingers you might find the neck/fingerboard to be a bit too narrow. Ideal width for fingerstyle is 1/3/4" at the nut.
a12 or the gs mini (for learning fingerpicking)? cant find a comparison anywhere, can't decide...
Great review. Sounds good. It's a narrow neck 1 11/16. Anyone who knows the strings spacing at the nut from E to e?
are these available now at alamo music?
Yes, indeed! We have a link in the description :)
Hello here from Canada. Everyone is asking about the second song sample. I'm curious too
Is it worth adding a pick guard?
Of course! Cheap too
which one better Big baby or this guitar..
Jemmy Fahrudinsyah this one is better sound. Fuller
This is an entry level guitar that is not equipped to handle medium elixirs. I love medium elixirs.
That doesn’t sound like mariachi 😜love the tone and crispness
What strings come stock on these, I have one but I liked it how it came stock, still looking for the right strings
Taylor typically puts Elixir Phosphor Bronze 12 Gauge (Light) strings on all their guitars from stock. That would be my likely guess.
@@davidgallagher5233 Gotcha, I ended up picking up some Elixir bronze ultra thin nano webs, although I went with 13-54 gauge I think it was. I like them, gives it that ring I had when I originally bought
Why is it some Taylor guitars don't have a pick guard?, mine is wearing where the pick hits the wood.
Hey Virgil, Taylor chooses to use a pickguard or not as an aesthetic choice. They offer clear and tortoise shell pickguards as an option that can be purchased and applied after the fact. There is also a static cling option.
Thank You for the info. I thought maybe it had something to do with the tone of the guitar, why they didn't put on a pick guard.
I paid $699 for this exact guitar 1/22/21
the mic is placed to close to the guitar
@Johannes DeMoravia The guy was just observing what was true. The mic was TOO close to the guitar, and the recording engineer didn't set the recording level accordingly. Andre's improper spelling of "too" was obvious, but perhaps this is due to an incomplete understanding of English which, by the way, is one of the most difficult languages for foreigners to learn. He didn't need your criticism. That was rude of you. By the way...as long as you are going to criticize him for his spelling error, you might take a look at your own sentence about being "too" close to the fire. You said "If I get "too" close to the fire I gonna burn up." "Proper" English would dictate that your comment should have read "If I get "too" close to the fire I'M going to burn." Don't be so quick to criticize others! This is supposed to be a friendly place for folks from all around the world to feel free to post their observations, questions, concerns, etc. about the content of the videos without fear of being pounced on for their grammar or spelling errors.
Love the melody at 7:50. Name of the song please!
They keep saying “for beginners.”
So a $600 guitar isn’t good enough to gig????
I mean it’s 700$ now technically
The body on this and the Big baby are the same size. the A10 is NOT 4 5/8 thick. it is 4" . I have one the specs listed on the Taylor web site are wrong! Get out a tape measure and check it out. this body is the SAME size as a big baby. saying this has a thicker body is misleading.
What is the difference between 10e and 12e??
Just the shape, the 10 being dreadnought shape and the 12 being a grand concert shape (a bit more curvy). In terms of features I believe them to be the same
10e or 110e? That's my doubt
There's one big problem for this guitar - the Martin Dreadnought Junior. Same price, same size but solid wood construction and sound/plays amazing. The Taylor Academy should be at the very least 100 cheaper for it to offer good value against the Martin.
The Dreadnought Junior doesn't sound better than this guitar despite its all solid wood, it's just different. Martin guitars have lower finishes than Taylor guitars around this price range. And above all, I prefer the neck construction of Taylor guitars: no flaws, no humps, very easy to reset when the guitar gets old.
but it doesnt have a bevel which cost taylor more construction time
What's the cost of this guitar?
$599 It's on sale for Black Friday (-10%) at Sam Ash. I just bought one.
But how does it sound when it's Plugged In?
Really good actually.
Sounds exactly like the big baby
Compare this to big baby, its a good fight with same materials
BlitzKrieg 21 no, this one is fuller. Comparison would be 110 series
Anyone else notice the price jump on these? The entire academy line went up $50 a guitar
I did and I wanted one:(
I’m Poor
That's attributed to elections having consequences. You ain't seen nothin' yet!
I bought a Taylor 10e not that the e makes much odds here on this report however it's less than 2 years old am experienced acoustic guitarist and low and behold it has now got a crack in the top not far below the arm rest so it's not a good long term investment obviously far to much pressure for a low end quality top to with stand, I won't risk buying another because as much as I understand what Taylor are trying to do the proof is in the pudding over time... It's not correct you need a high grade top or it simply can't last very long as the dynamics are out
Wow. I got that same guitar at Progresso when I was in high school. Horrible classical guitar that came with cheap steel strings. I learned a lot though
Work hard and stay mad👍

Demo Reviewers please take note. Play the thing FIRST, ALWAYS. Then talk.
Tried it, I liked it sounds amazing but Made In Mexico is a deal breaker. Also Taylor's Customer Support is lacking.
Great review, lovely instrument, but - don't believe the hype about all that 'entry level' stuff. Cut your figurative teeth on some cheap beast with the strings a light year from the fretboard. It strengthen up yer hand a treat and you'll learn what a good guitar isn't and how to work around glitches, so when you get a decent machine you'll be more knowledgable, and most importantly will glide like a ski on black ice.
Just a notion.
Most people who would take your advice would become thoroughly discouraged and quit before they ever had the chance to experience the true joy of playing guitar. The pain and inability to get a decent sound would be a huge turnoff. As a professional music teacher for more than 50 years, I have always advised parents of my students to get the best instrument they could afford in order to avoid the MANY problems associated with cheap crappy instruments. While it is true that if a person learns to play well on a poor instrument, once they get a great instrument they are astounded at how much better they play (I know this from my own personal experience), the challenges of learning to play a musical instrument are many -- without having to deal with an inferior instrument. This can lead to the person giving up thereby missing out on a skill they could have enjoyed for a lifetime.
Yeah, no thanks. I don’t want to fight with my guitar, I want to play it
this guitar has zero bass
Maybe you’re listening to this video on a phone. I have airpods in and hearing plenty bass...
Wrong! Play one for yourself. It has very full-but-controlled low end which does not overpower the upper strings.
Nice story. How many chicks did you get?
