  • Syncing audio from the Rodecaster Pro to your video is incredibly easy. There's a simple way to do it, a smarter way to do it, and a magical (i.e. automatic) way to do it.

This update is going to make a HUGE improvement on all my projects & productions. Agreed, I love the Rodecaster Pro and what it does for my Live-Streams. I am a solo operator currently producing & hosting 6 weekly shows (3 on Facebook & 3 on UA-cam). The RØDECaster Pro has been a reliable workhorse, easy to navigate and continues to impress. I am keeping a keen ear & watching the progress of this Beta version before I chose to update. Once again Thank you for this review. Cheers iSpike (New King Of Live Streaming)

    Cool video. I did used to do it this way but then after some experimenting, I found another easier way. I got a 1/4 to 3.5 cable.... the 1/4 jack goes into one of the headphones output at the back of the Podcaster, and the 3.5 goes into the mic input in the camera and Boom! Just be mindful to adjust the recording volume on your camera and adjust the volume output from the Podcaster as well, as it may become too loud. Play around with it till you get the volume that you’re ok with and that should work. Saved a lot of time in editing as the audio is already recorded onto the video straight away. You may also have the audio separately as usual if you record off the Podcaster as well.
    You’re welcome 😊

    Hi Tom, great delivery. Soothing... one thing not addressed or not at least as far as I’ve seen... is the Rodecaster Pro records at 41,400 where most cameras record at 48,100. This small spread creates audio drift which become more noticeable as a video plays. Thoughts?

    This might be a dumb question (if its even possible) but can you eliminate the step of importing the audio from the Rodecaster by hitting record for your voiceover on Final Cut Pro , saying what you need to say through Rodecaster and using the audio output of the RC (if there is one) back to your computer so your getting that nice processed audio. Make sense ? lol

    • @tombuck

      It's a bit tricky to say without know the gear you're using, but yes, a good preamp will always help. This might be an interface you plug your mic into, or it might just mean playing with the audio levels on your camera. In general, if there's a "gain" setting, you want it to be as low as possible while still giving a loud enough signal.

    What do you recommend if my audios are synched at the start of the recording, but by 20 minutes in they are no longer synced?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 роки тому

      A lot of times this is related to the frame rate that your camera is recording in. I've always had good luck filming in 24fps. Filming at 30fps usually causes some drift.
      There's no really magic solution aside from cutting the audio clip every few minutes and nudging it over a few frames so it syncs again.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 роки тому +2

      It usually has to do with video frame rates (23.98/24/29.98/60 FPS). Depending on your editing software, you might be able to either slow down or speed up your audio by .01% to keep it synced.
      Otherwise you’ll just need to go through the project and split the audio/resync it whenever it starts to drift- it’s tedious but not too bad.

      You may just need to adjust the sync in your editing software. If you're streaming, depending on the software you're using (OBS, Ecamm, etc), you might be able to add an audio delay that way too.

      If I'm reading this correctly, it sound like you need an adapter that will let you connect the Wireless Go to the Rodecaster? If so, you'd need a 3.5mm to XLR cable that you can run from the receiver to the Rodecaster. Something like this: www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Inch-3-5mm-Male/dp/B00QMITC7G/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=3.5+mm+to+xlr&qid=1586361127&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-1

    Can anybody help with audio drifting???? I’m using the Ninja 5 hooked to a Sony A73 and after Syncing my audio tin FCPX after 20 or so minutes the audio slowing drift out of sync

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 роки тому

      There are a few things that can cause this, and I've found it's usually frame rate or bitrate. Be sure that the RCP is set to 48000kHz and that your'e filming at 24fps. That should keep everything in sync.
      AS for the footage you already have that's drifting, the most basic way to solve it is to split the audio clip every few minutes and nudge it over a few frames to sync back up. It's tedious, but gets the job done.
      You can sometimes try slowing down or speeding up the audio by .01% to make it stay in sync too. It doesn't always work, but it won't change the pitch in any noticeable way.

      @tombuck  4 роки тому

      Great question- it's usually because the audio isn't set to match the video's frame rate. If possible, try filming at 24fps. I've found that works very well with the Rodecaster.

    Thanks for your very informative videos! There's no way to sync audio and videostream directly in Rodecaster pro, isn't it? On livestreams it can be done in OBS via audiosettings. However if streaming directly via a camera and a microphone plugged into the Rodecaster Pro audio and video often are out of sync.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 роки тому

      The Rodecaster doesn’t have a way to take a video signal, so I don’t think there’s a way to sync them without using software of some kind.

      Thank you for your answer. I think I didn‘t point it out right 😉. I use a Canon M200 and feed it directly to the computer via the newly available EOS Webcam Utility. This seems to offset the video signal by some frames. The audio signal coming from the microphone plugged into the Roadcaster pro thus comes ahead of the corresponding frame. It would be handy to add an offset directly on the Rodecaster Pro instead of doing so in another app.
