      Tom do you leave your Decksaver cover on the Rodecaster Pro when using it? I've been tempted to but not sure if it'll promote any overheating. Oh, I mean when it's being used static for every day use and you don't need to do any control

    • @GaryCantrell
      @GaryCantrell 3 роки тому

      @@tombuck Easily would have been double the price back then, easily. I had a Mackie mixer that did maybe half of what the rodecaster can do and that was $700 on its own. The effects you'd have to buy rack mounted likely so each of those are $200-300 a piece then a rack mount. I could go on and on!!

    I use mine for broadcasting live college basketball for an NAIA university. I LOVE it. The buttons are used to fire off commercials during media timeouts, and the built-in compression helps during exciting moments and prevents huge spikes in mic level. The bluetooth is also great in case I've prerecorded an interview on my phone and need to play it back live. I can highly recommend its use for live settings.

    I started watching vids on this last night. I am getting one in a few hours "new" off Craigslist for $450. I did my due diligence... They own a mortgage company in Santa Clarita, CA (nice non-diverse crime free area), they bought it new from Best Buy in Aug 2021, still in packaging, they have the receipt and it will still have 6+ months of warranty. When I called them they were with their kids headed to a museum downtown (Sunday). I didn't want a used or refurbished one and I didn't really wanna spend $660. So I think I won! Also note: I have been using Craigslist in Los Angeles for 20 years and have NEVER had a bad experience. (probably because I can smell a scam from a mile away)

Then sense kicked in (and Rode published the individual videos on each effect), so I reset the effects and started again with them going much more subtle this time (and I backed up the settings when I was happy so I could revert if I messed up again!).

    Thanks for the great content in this video, and your UA-cam content in general. As for the RODEcaster, I love it. I reluctantly spent the money because the RODEcaster was loaded with so many desirable features. But what really pleased me was the quality of the pre-amps. I was confident that they'd be OK, but they are REALLY GOOD. I bought a Dynamite SE in line preamp for my gain hungry EV320 mic, but the RODEcaster provides plenty of clean, crisp gain by itself. THANKS AGAIN for your helpful content.

    Hey Tom! Just bought an Open Box RodeCaster From Ebay for my Syndicated Music Countdown, which will be aired on 100’s of great radio stations from coast to coast, and the reason I decided to buy the RodeCaster is it simplifies my work flow, verses manually inputting sound into a DAW. and the audio quality is amazing on the RodeCaster Pro+

    I say it b4 and Still my favorite UA-cam channel and I purchase rodecaster pro and use it for every audios from 1 year now because your recommendation and I appreciate it . And also I am in love with it because all simple use and strong features and also with the supporting stuff who always hear what we need and added many features but and big thing i miss it in this beast is the audio routing like Goxlr and if they add it the rodecaster pro will be the most complete audio mixer was ever made .

    I’m glad they have the re20 as a mic option in the settings, I found that worked perfectly. Only thing I need to adjust is the noise gate and compression. Oh and maybe the ducking feature needs to be global on the board, not just through the 4 main xlr channels

    I got the Rodecaster Pro to do a podcast together with my wife and it is just such a great tool. As you said, the sound of the headphones is not good, especially when you have a music track. It doesn't fit in with the quality of all the other parts. Rode should really fix that for the next version.
    This week I was interviewed by a radio station. I had the call of the journalist on the TRRS input from my iPhone and my voice on the mic input and had the Rodecaster set to multitrack recording on USB. After that I used Audacity to extract the two tracks and sent the WAV file to the journalist. She confirmed that she now has my voice in studio quality to use for her radio feature.
    A big thanks to you, Tom, for your videos that helped me a lot in the preparation for my podcast and for the video livestreams that I also do now (bought a Rodecaster Pro and an ATEM Mini Pro ...). You have a good style of explaining things, your English is very clear so we non-native speakers can understand it and I like your humor and your playing with words (you really give sound advice :-)
    And, I admit it, I also got a blue XLR cable for my desk mic. My wife, however, liked yellow better than purple :-)

    Tom, your videos are simply fantastic and a joy to learn something new. I'm trying to teach myself how to drive Great Zoom/Teams meetings. I'm upgrading/adding everything. I started with a M1 Mac Mini (yes, it's awesome) I'm to the point where I'm suffering from paralysis of analysis! I had convinced myself that I was going to go all in on XLR for audio (Lewitt, GoXLR mini) and then adding a DSLR for video (I found a Logitech PTZ Pro that I had from a previous job, and will upgrade it later). Then I switched my thinking to Elgato Wave3 and just go USB to start. And then I watch this video and thinking, maybe I should go back to XLR (Lewitt or Podmic) and this Rodecaster Pro. I'm swirling! Thoughts?

  • @Mr_Boykin

    I just learned how the mix minus works recently. I was having an issue where when I do interviews on my livestream, my guest would be echoing. Oddly, I didn’t have this problem at first so I was under the impression that the mix/minus just worked out the box. I’m not sure what changed, but now I see that there’s a switch that has to flipped to stop the echoing. Only problem with having the M/M switch on is that if you play audio through the USB while the mix minus is on your guest won’t be able to hear it!

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that's where it get's tricky. If you want to minus them but still have them hear everything, it takes a bit of experimentation with whichever app you're using. I still scratch my head several times a week after messing something up on accident 😬

    Tom awesome channel! Thanks for the videos. Question I’m having trouble on getting a good sound from my 🎤 I’m using rode pod mic.
    Do you have a video on your audio settings?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 роки тому

      Hey! There are so many variables when it comes to audio quality, but I keep my mic's gain at 35db, turn off most of the effects, and speak as closely as possible. Sometimes a light touch with the De-Esser or adding a little Big Bottom bass helps round out the tone.
      If possible, the mic works a lot better with a signal booster like a Cloudlfiter or the less expensive Klark Teknik CT1.

  • @DaivG
    @DaivG 3 роки тому +1

    @14:03 I agree and struggle with the price argument. I will only be recording a single mic with a single headphone and when I start pricing out a setup that is tailored to what I will get out of the Rodecaster Pro, the hundred or so dollars I save leaves me with a lot more equipment to hook up and monitor with more complicated setup and adjustments and still doesn't give me the results that I get with the Rodecaster Pro.
    As much as I wish Rode would create a paired down/smaller version with 1 or 2 XLR inputs and maybe half the sound pads for around $400, I know it's still worth it to save up the extra money and just pick up the Rodecaster Pro.

    Thanks for all the your info on the rodecaster pro.
    Based upon your videos I decided to get one for my various projects.
    Just one note on the green "solo" buttons for each channel.
    They do not impact that particular source being in the Recording - they impact that source being on the Headphone out (lower right front or headphone out 1).
    Just a clarification for some newer folks who might not get the implication of the "solo" terminology.
    To stop something on the recording - use the red mute for each channel.
    Now I need to watch more of your videos to figure out mic options for video - as it seems sometimes you are using the one in the camera shot, and one not.
    Thanks for your videos.
