- Sofia Vergara's AD Home Tour: • Inside Sofía Vergara’s...
Hello again sweet people 💫This week I’m mixing it up a little bit and trying out a home tour review. I feel like this is a good way to talk about a real world examples of the ideas I’m always yapping about.
We’re starting it off with Sofa Vergara’s Architectural Digest Home Tour. Her house is undeniably amazing but I do have some potentially interesting (?) thoughts and comments about the interior design of her space (we have some lighting and material problems on our hands imo)Let me know if you like this format and if so what other home tours I should do!
Thanks so much luv u mean it

Personally, I love to watch videos from the channel called "Never Too Small". I think that you could do some reviews of the homes shown there but if you want to stay in the realm of AD and different celebrities then I would suggest Troye Sivan's home tour if you have not already watched it!
Troye Sivan's home really surprised me, in a good way. So many beautiful and interesting pieces. One of the few celebrity homes that I would love to live in without changing everything lol
Though I love some of the creative architecture and space solutions on Never Too Small, I sometimes find the homes to be a little sterile. I really like Apartment Therapy for more lived-in homes :) both channels would be great for reaction content!
@@jobelfrink I see where you coming from as I think that some of the homes featured on NTS feel like Airbnbs if that makes sense? But I guess that comes with any channel - filtering out the ones that are really good to review and that give some architectural insight as they often times have the actual architect explain the visionary concept.
Never Too Small is the absolute best 💯
The Local Project and House & Garden are also very inspiring channels
Do a review of a home you love
But not the Troye Sivan one-we all love that
i love to watch all the NYC home tours because they have a lot less space to work with. i don’t live in new york, but the amount of space rich people can afford in new york is often similar to the amount of space that the rest of us can afford outside new york, so it ends up being more relatable
That's an interesting point. ❤
I love how you show examples of what you're talking about. As someone who learns best through examples, it's so helpful.
I have binge watched all your videos this week. They bring SO much value. They are worth more than the thousands of hours I've spent here watching home tours. If I had money, I would love to have you designing my home. Seriously, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. ❤
i feel the same way! I started a Pinterest because of this channel.
I love how nice and gentle you are with your opinions even when you disagree with a design choice. It's refreshing to hear! x
as a fellow design geek I agree with most of your points. i think you have a very sophisticated taste, but I also think it's not for everyone's house. Sophia is obviously obsessed with those sconces and chandeliers and I think that's fine because its her house and her style.
They look tacky and cheap
@@Qrtuop If they're genuine antiques, that could be cool. Not a big fan of nekkid bulbs though
@@Qrtuop Some people are a little tacky and cheap 😂
I totally understand what you’re saying, and we all have different taste but in regard to the Chandelier, I think it was less about the Chandelier concept and more about how it’s trying to be authentic but it’s not. If it was an authentic chandelier from the actual time it’s replicating it would make more sense. Kind of like plastic plants. Just get the real thing or don’t.
What I got from Sofia's house tour is the vibe that for each room, they went with a pretty coherent Pinterest inspo, staged stuff from those one angle shot for each room and then went very safe (boring and white) the rest of the space.
Also, seeminly very little intentional conversation between home's architecture and the way it was furnished and staged.
Her house reflects her taste and personality. I guess Sophia Vergara is a 'chandelier in every room' kind of person and she is authentic in that way.
I agree. the mid-century examples he showed were just totally out of keeping with the spanish/french or traditional aesthetic. I think the whole thing would have been more useful if he's used examples of traditional or classical furniture rather than stuff from the 50s that would look so very out of place in that house
@@HomeFromFarAway I think he did not give those examples with the intention of proposing them as an alternative, but to illustrate a concept: "I would look for this type of contrast", "I would put furniture with natural-colored wood", "I would place lamps that filter the light or reflect it, not bulbs in sight".
seeing a new noah video pop up on my feed brings me genuine joy.
Bro, I've considered going back to college to study and practice architecture or interior design for years (studied sculpture originally) and these concise, well spoken explanations of design theories are really making the decision easy for me. Cheers, keep up the great work.
yes, please do more. I learnt a lot from this 'case study'. thanks for sharing your knowledge. I almost felt like she had these pieces from a previous house and just used them in this new house. when I first watched it, i knew that art piece looked odd, but as you said, she had no other contrasting pieces in the room so makes sense.
Yes please. Do more of these case studies as well. I would also like to see different home decore styles as well. I enjoy variety. What sets your channel apart is that your input is more thought provoking. Avoid videos like 10 things to make your home/kitchen/bath look more luxury/expensive etc. What I really appreciate is learning and understanding more about the theory and the intelligent discussion.
I learned a lot from this format. Especially from unexpected things like the level of the artwork with the TV and cabinet. I think its really helpful hearing your insight as to why something didn't work, and then seeing your examples of what would have been better. I would love to see videos of home tours where you really love the design, and talking about how the choices were made and why it all works so well.
Love this video format! But would also love to see you review homes with design elements and decor that you genuinely enjoy. That to me is more interesting than a random rich celebrity. Let’s see random rich interior designers/ architects too!
A fun watch, but personally I'd prefer your videos didn't go down the celebrity homes route. 'Feels too 'judgy' and too close to the unfortunate obsession these days with 'celebrities' and their lives. Your videos up to that point have had such an authentic, nice vibe. I'd be much keener to know what you personally like and why. My view: Please leave out celebrities. 'Have repeat watched all your other videos so far. They are brilliant. Thanks!
yesssss
I love that you add image examples to show what you're talking about preferring to see - it really helps it click!! Would love to see house tours you do like and point out things that really work and how to apply those learnings to different style homes. "What we can learn from (fill in the blank) house tour"
More of these home reviews please! Although I have zero budget I'm having to decorate every room in my home and I feel this kind of review is really helpful to look at the do and do nots to get a cohesive look. Plus, it was funny watching you being diplomatic about naked bulb chandeliers haha. More please!
I don’t know if you’ve ever watched Homeworthy, but I prefer their home tours over AD because they are more relatable. The things in some of those homes are things I could actually do in my own home with my limited budget.
Have loved both types so far! I think doing little miniature makeovers changing one element would also be a great way to learn. For instance, showing 3 different lighting plans in a space could really help us learn how a plan gets put together and what makes it successful.
I like this idea of reviewing a house tour....it would be interesting to hear your comments about something less grand...perhaps a New York apartment or an artist's quirky home.... Thank you!
Agreed! Like something out of Apartamento magazine
This particular house tour wasn’t that interesting to me. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before. Nice looking but didn’t feel that personal or relatable.
Hi! I’ve been really loving your videos and finally beggining to understand why I don’t like how my home looks even though I know what I like. Having videos with different formats but similar general content is also really helping with the learning process. Keep going!
I love the way you talk about things and explain with examples. Also enjoying watching your subscriber count go up so quickly, you deserve it!
You did incredible, I’d like to see more of these videos! Your style is refreshing, honest, and helpful to see interior design from your perspective, which is also much fun to watch! 🎯🙌🏼
You are officially my new favorite youtuber. 🏆
you have such good takes & taste. all your videos are gold I could watch them all 5 times over and learn something new every time!! please keep the content coming!!
I’ve just binged all your vids, I love the way to articulate your ideas and the simple editing style u have. Also amazing sense of humor 😂
i could watch you all day explaining and analyzing design! its really helpful because im trying to dive into the world of design and you explain it so clearly so i can apply it to real life. i only watch benji plant on youtube, but you came onto my recommended and i watched ur entire channel in one sitting. love your channel so far!
keep up the reviews! super good at showing us clear examples on how spaces can look odd sometimes 😅no hate to the homeowners
Yes pls do more of these i love all of yout videos by the way! Im really curious as to what you think about Tan France's new home tour or Joshua Weissman's!
Great video! I would love to see more like this! Whenever I was the AD tours I’m always bothered by them slightly and can never figure it out. It was so satisfying to finally define what isn’t working. Also it’s nice to know that just because the home is large and expensive, doesn’t mean it’s well designed.
I'd love to see you do a breakdown of Ru Paul's house recently featured on AD. I'd be curious to hear your commentary.
As for Sofia's house. It is beautiful, but the lack of color would drive me nuts. Could the kitchen be any more white?
I don’t think he would like Ru Paul’s home at all lol but I could be wrong
love your contentttt- keep it up!
What you said about the back of the frames and styling the central table was such a good point!🌞
Can you do a review our houses ? And give us your critics and advices ?
Love all your videos btw !
i love your videos and how much you care about little details
So informative! Sometimes the interior of a house feels "off" and you translate the issues with ease 👌🏼✨
Yes, please do more!
I enjoy listening to your videos, and I appreciate how calm your voice is.
Can you do a review of Troye Sivans home tour please?
Sofia went all pastel ornament way. I think it’s what a lot of women, that don’t think too much about interiors, do. It’s a beautiful home, but I do agree with your critique points. Natural wood tones and some modern pieces would look better. And loved that bull sculpture and the painting.
Oh yeah, like this format of a video 👍🏻
I would love to see more like this! I learned so much!
this was a really great video and love the way you're using this to explain the interior design theories you've gone in depth in previous videos, but as praxis! I would love if you could includes ways that people with more everyday living spaces could include the improvements you mention with this celebrity home!
Do more please, i just stumbled on your channel and have been really enjoying your content
Love this style of video! Your critics are great to hear, and I love that you included pictures of what you would do instead.
I loved the AD home review. Please keep them coming.
You have such a good eye and I learn something every time I watch your videos. That you noticed that gap at the top of the kitchen cabinets was really something. I am just not that visually acute, I guess. TOTALLY agree about the grey wood, though, ugh. You could certainly do more of these videos. You did it very well, too, not mean and catty, but what you like and why, and what you would do differently and why. Just the right tone, imho.
It would be cool if you review ang give advice on our homes instead celebrity's one 😬
Finally!! Noah, your feelings about flame-shaped lightbulbs and antiquated chandeliers are really speaking to me. To touch on the chandeliers thing very briefly, my biggest issue with them is that they are 100% a status symbol, at least at their inception. They are saying look how much $$$ I have-I have so much that I don't even need good lighting!!
Love Sofia of course queen
Sooo glad to see you do this review. I watched her home tour and was feeling all the same things as you…. It just seems off and there’s lots of missed opportunities to utilize the space better. You always know how to eloquently verbalize what we’re all thinking!
Missed opportunities to utilize the space better for whom? Because it's what she requested, approved and paid for...
do more of this, i love your pov!
Yes... loved it! Do more!
Love this video. Please make more. And I would really want your opinion on one wall of my kitchen which I have thought about for a long time.
yes, please do more!
Yes pls do more of these types of videos! Can you do Tan France's home next or Joshua Weissman?
I really enjoyed this and I would also love a vid on ornamentation :) after your lighting vids I got really into lamps, after seeing carlo nason’s medusa pendant light i fell in love. I bought myself a 50s ceramic space age lamp which is quite eye-catching, it has a pearlescent glaze. I’m sure it’s not your style but would love to hear more about your thoughts on ornamentation as I’m moving in with my boyfriend soon and we need to get on the same wavelengths with your design principles!!
So addicted to your content!! I would like that you comment more AD videos. Even those ones where there are 3 designers and they compare their designs! ✨
Yes, we love a home review.
Cheers from Chile!! Definitely your comment are so right and it really make me laugh in good way when you talk about chandelier , you know what, I have a big one in my home , I will send you a pic later ! Again , congratulations you are so professional and just give smart comments!! Cheers , juan
As lovely as Sofia Vergara seems to be, personally I prefer design content that doesn’t focus on celebrities (or products).
For video ideas (and research) there’s a book I bought for my brother a while back titled “Intimus: Interior Design Theory Reader” that you might find useful.
And you might also appreciate the Christopher Alexander’s eccentric 1977 classic “A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction”.
Because I can't afford purchasing art from actual artist I decided to design my own art to frame. I'm happy to have a unique piece of art that can share a story about haha. Great video!
Enjoyed this video so more!
Szuper volt, akarok még ilyet. Tanulságos.
iHi Noah, your videos are amazing. Here's an idea: I would really like to know how you would approach furnishing, e.g., a living room. I'm talking about conceptualizing the layout. Where should the couch be? How do I decide that? Where should the shelf go? I've watched quite a few videos, but their input has been quite generic ("start with the big pieces and then the smaller ones", like duh). I'm just in the process of completely redecorating my flat and I'm so excited, but I don't wanna make mistakes by buying a $4000 couch just to find out that the layout I had in mind doesn't really work, and I don't know where to go from here.
Hi Noah, seems like you don’t answer to comments too often but I really appreciate your videos so far. I feel like you have really clear ideas of architecture and I would love to see you design in you own voice, maybe do something with that? Something like AD’s three designers show. Think about it!
I never would have watched that video without you (I absolutely hate celebrity tasteless white spaces) and I thought your critique was really constructive.
usually this type of video falls into the bashing category.
please do more !
Yes, this was a fun idea. Agree with you about the strange washed-out palette throughout almost the entire house.
Loved the video. Personally I did love the huge black chandelier. Such a unique piece
So did I.
I'd love to see you review Troye Sivan's and Dakota Johnson's AD tours!! (especially the lighting from troye's house)
Your voice is so pleasing.
Haha noticed the chandellier immediately, and knew you were gonna comment it
New to your channel, and love it! Unfortunately, some of us have misophonia and we have a hard time with the noise from your coffee drinking at the start. Just thought I’d share this in case you’d be willing to turn the sound really low on that part or skip it altogether. Though I do like the coffee/tea drinking vibe (just not the sound). Thank you for taking this into consideration!
great video🎉
I disagree on the wood color, I love that she went with a more subdued pastel color palette made the space more feminine. I feel what you’re suggesting for the wood or the cabinetry and bar would look completely different, would certainly lean more towards the Spanish style architecture of the house with more mid century furniture and an eclectic feel. But that would be a completely different style than what she went with here, this is a Spanish style home with modern furnishing and a light French chateau rustic.
My point is, what you’re suggesting would look good but for a completely different person. You’re not correcting her mistakes, you’re just saying what you would do.
Ps can you please do lily Aldridge home next.
You kill me with those chandeliers 😂
I recommend “Camp Cove” by The Local Project. It’s one of my favorite homes
My favorite AD celebrity house tour was with Adwoa Aboah ❤ I would love to see your review on it 😊
I'm about to buy a desk chair and I need some guidance. Which one is the one you are using? Can you do a top 5 or 10 of the most stylish and comfortable chairs?
not a fan of celebrity homes, they all seem weirdly trendy and not like some place people actually live. I did see one that a celebrity was giving of her place and she actually had things on the counter like people actually cooked and ate in the space.( not prop styled things) It was so refreshing. That being said, I did learn a lot from this video about why I did not like the space, you are very good at articulating the issues. Though I am still not totally convince on the flame bulbs in chandeliers and sconces being bad, i'm sure if you keep repeating it, i might become a believer. 😂
I'm really enjoying your videos. I did not like the washed-out grey furniture either. What are your thoughts on mixed woods.
I’m really curious about what office chair you have! I’m in the market for one but the best ones are a little pricey. I think the headrest on yours.
I just watched and loved Beth Jones‘ House Tour on Homeworthy, maybe you‘d like to review that?
Do more of this! Emma Chamberlain's house would be fun
Although I share the hate for the dinning room chandelier, I also think that the lamp alternatives you chose are a reflection of your style, not hers. I wouldve liked you showing something that would compliment her taste better 😊
would love to see you review orville peck's home!!
Yet another +1 for Troye Sivan. I feel like his home tour hits on most of your values and I'd love to hear them called out.
would love to see a review of emma chamberlain's AD home tour!
Would love to see you do this for Aaron Paul's AD video!
She's rich enough to do something creative with those TVs!!!!!!
Dwell and The modern house have some really nice homes featured
what' up with the kitchen crown moulding not touching the ceiling?
“ she loves them… I hate them” 😂😂😂
I really appreciate your commentary on these kinds of home tours and how you brought themes and ideas from previous videos to show how they apply here. However, I would have LOVED one on houses for everyday people. You mentioned you were looking for an apartment in Copenhagen; if I remember correctly, there is a style of building houses in a row, similar to the Netherlands. Compared to a celebrity's house, where there is plenty of opportunity for big windows and much natural light, houses built in a row are limited by the adjacent walls. Mathematically, there are less windows, less occasions to bring in natural light. I live in the Netherlands and this is a big problem I see with the houses here. Those are more challenging and common with everyday people and would have loved your commentary there, what can be done in those situations and so on.
This house could use some shells. It has a four seasons hotel lobby kinda feel to it.
Omg yes it does. That’s so spot on
Would love a review of Nate and Jeremiah's current New York townhouse.
Can you review Alicia keys’ home.
I know you like some things about her house. Whatever is beautiful about it, though (I’m talking about the interior) is ruined by the use of too much white, pale, pale blue, gray wood, and grayed-out wood tones. I’m not a big fan of the design of any of her furniture-it looks like Wayfair Coastal. The tapestry is gorgeous. That’s about it, though.
I want you to react to RuPaul's "home" lmao your vibe is so calm and relaxed and that house is the complete opposite hahahah
Gwyneth Paltrowʼs house! It's just a perfect source of inspiration
Wonderful review, IMO. Design Daddy did one as well, and I think I am more on par with you.
I have to say that the Latino aesthetic is typically very loud, ornate, and colorful. Personally I think it reflects their environment, the tropics, so it does not look at all like New England. Maybe she is trying to go against that, and went too far?
The house and exterior amazing, so we have at least 3 different designers here.
That 2" space above kitchen cabinets just irks me. So did the window sills on the back façade. Those 2 large doors really should have read as all one door on the balcony.
The dining chandelier competes too much with the beautiful ceiling, maybe because there is no style contrast.
The gold bed bothered DD, but I like it, but not the other washed out furniture.
I can say that at least the house is not gaudy or cluttered. The only thing I disagree with you is that an exhaust fan should never be the focal point of the kitchen, that makes no sense to me.
That bench next to the tub is just WRONG, on any level. So are the doors to the bar, I mind the mirror behind the iron grill the most, but the whole thing is WRONG.
Hindsight is 20/20, but the interior designers seem inept, or had their hands tied.
So this house is washed out and not inspiring. Maybe even sparse, but not gaudy.
She is cute, and seems real. She is certainly not showing off, she almost seems grateful.
BTW, she remolded this house, she liked the exterior so much.
It wouldn't be hard to correct most of these flaws, none are major projects.
Thanks.
