  • Hi hi 🤍
This week’s video is really fun. I asked you sweet people to send me pics of your homes so I could comment on your spaces and give some friendly design critiques. I ended up receiving way more emails than I anticipated so it was really difficult to decide which ones to start with. But the good news is I now have tons of homes for future videos :)
This was seriously so different from my actual consultations where I’m speaking to the person that lives in the space. So I hope you enjoy listening to me monologue, and fingers crossed that I communicated all of my thoughts clearly.
love u see u next week!
    xx nd

This is my favorite video of yours yet! I watch a lot of interiors content and it's rare to see this level of detail in "advice for subscribers" videos. I like this sort of deep dive a lot and would prefer it over you discussing more homes in the same amount of time.

Totally agree! I’m completely uninterested and unimpressed by massive homes, built and decorated with massive budgets, because it’s just unrealistic/unattainable to me. However, I could look at small cozy homes all day long! ☺️

The way you explain “why” people feel the way they do and why things work in relation to interior design choices is so eye opening and clear. So grateful for you mind and your words 🩵

As a toddler mom I just want to give my strong advice against putting up track curtains instead of the closet/office doors. It of course looks a lot better with curtains, but looks are not worth the hassle of having to put up new tracks all the time after your kid tore them down by playing with the curtains. Also good to be able to actually close off things like cords, computers and other stuff you don’t want your kid to get a hold of. Based on pure aesthetics I’d follow your advice entirely, but since having a child I’ve realized that some compromises have to be made…

I totally agree with the others, more of these, please! When I've watched other people's advice for subs videos (which I love) there is this level of detail that's missing. You gave suggestions and alternative suggestions, it was fantastic. I'd be happy if they were longer videos, 45 minutes for example, or if you created more of them. Like others have mentioned, this in-the-wild approach to making suggestions for real spaces is beyond helpful. 😃👍

The general rule for mounting the tv is the bottom THIRD should fall in line with where your eyes naturally rest when looking straight forward from your seated position. When faced with whether or not you should move it up higher or down lower, lower is always better. Also the bigger your TV, the shorter the media cabinet. Furthermore, there's a general rule for picking a tv:
    movie enthusiast: 65"-85" OLED
    Binge watchers: 55"-75" Mini-LED
    Sports enthusiast: 75"-98" QLED
Infrequent Use/Form over Function: 42"-55" LED
In regards to the audio side of things, a soundbar is sub-optimal. Audio plays a huge role in your perception of media, and studies have shown that people actually preferred a setup where the audio was better than the video over a setup where the video was better than the audio.
For most homes, a stereo setup is far better than a soundbar. The first reason is that for movies and TV shows, you want the actual sound from the speakers to be in line with the center of the screen, as that is where most of the dialogue is coming from. With stereo speakers, this is possible as they sit on either side of the tv, unlike the soundbar which sits under it.
Another reason one would benefit from a stereo system over a soundbar is "separation". With a soundbar, your entire front stage is inside of one thin box, limiting the "sphere" of sound it can create. With a stereo pair, your left and right are actually on either side of the TV. If you properly "tow" the speakers out, meaning angle them towards the listening position instead of just backing them up and having them face straight out, your sphere of sound is greatly increased, and the quality of breadth and volume becomes much more tactile.
From an interior design perspective, the soundbar and stereo setup both have their benefits. The soundbar is remarkably simple and can blend in. Most possess very modern and sleek designs, so they blend in well with the general modern style. In contrast, the stereo speakers themselves are entire pieces of furniture and come in such a wide range of styles and sizes that they can become a beautiful statement piece for any style.
If I convinced you to make the switch here's a general guide to starting a stereo setup:
General use: go to FACEBOOK MARKET place, find an AVR and a pair of stereo speakers, and go from there.
Movie enthusiast/Sports Enthusiast, simple and easy to use: Sonos Amp + (x2) Polk Audio Monitor XT60
Movie Enthusiast, advanced and customizable: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2A + (x2) Polk Audio Signature Elite ES260 + Polk Monitor XT12
Binge Watcher: Dennon PMA-600NE + Polk Signature Elite ES10 (Wall mount or get speaker stands, do not sit on credenza)
Form over function, interior design friendly/ no TV music focus: Cambridge Audio Evo 75 + (x2) Klipsch Heritage Heresy IV
If you have any questions feel free to ask
PS: There are so many situations, specifically those of you who have two living rooms, where just a stereo setup and a record/CD player are what’s best for the room

So excited to have found your channel as I’m in the midst of trying to rationalize my own place after a friend passed away, and I have many of his pieces in my space, so watching you give your perspective on the rooms that you’re featuring, so I can follow the bouncing ball, is exceptionally helpful. Yes the large chest was giving me anxiety, with it’s bulkiness, and I also noticed that the plaid chair seems to have had an argument with its matching Ottoman, which you point out can be more usable once the sofa is moved against the wall, where the chest is right now. Anyway, suffice to say thank you for your content and thank you for your viewers who have submitted photos of their living space so you can walk us through. You are very talented. I’m going to forward your channel to other friends who are in need of friendly professional direction.
