Sarah lynn's father figure is bojack, when sarah opened up to bojack. Bojack did the opposite, instead of caring for her, she took advantage of her. And the last days of sarah, when sarah said what she feels, bojack should've never made him about himself, again. Sarah's only hope was bojack.
I really passionately object to the idea that the takeaway here should be "Sarah's only hope was Bojack". This idea that young women depend on father figures, and the portrayal of young women suffering from paternal abuse as suffering from the absence of a positive father figure rather than the presence of a monumentally shitty one, is incredibly frustrating to me. Nobody needs a dad. Bojack was not Sarah Lynn's "only hope," he was a clearly devastating presence in her life that she would have been much better off without.
And the fact that she stayed sober for so long until Bojack called and asked to party... Man. She did it for herself, even though her reasoning was being that the next time she did drugs, her high was gonna be more potent. But still. She would probably still be alive if it wasn't for Bojack, honestly.
I like that before she jumps out the door, she holds her nose, because when people die of heroin overdoses, it's usually because, simply, they're so high thier body forgets how to breath.
And her mom was a terrible fame-hungry dance mom type who was living vicariously through Sarah Lynn. Very sad and true to a lot of real life situations w/ children in the entertainment industry.
Sarah Lynn is one of my favorite characters from BoJack Horseman. She loved BoJack and saw him as a father figure to her and he was one of the few people Sarah Lynn could really trust. But he was abusive and warped her mindset and she ended up getting addicted to drugs. She needed him. She needed help. She wanted to get better. She wanted to be helped. She wanted free of her addictions. But then.. instead BoJack erased all her progress and didn’t care that she was getting better and instead of supporting and helping her get better he asked her to go on a bender and then she died. She died and he waited 17 minutes until calling the cops and he called from Sarah Lynn’s phone. He could have saved her. You know why he didn’t? Because BoJack is selfish and only thinks about himself, and most importantly… because he’s BoJack Horseman.
I hate how people completely abstain Sarah Lynn from all responsibility for her actions as if she wasn’t in her 30s when she died. I’m not saying that Bojack isn’t to blame for her death, but no. It wasn’t HIS fault she got back into drugs. She’s a whole ass adult. It’s her responsibility to stay on the path of being sober if she truly wants to get better. Bojack is selfish as fuck, but he didn’t put a knife to her throat and force her to drink again. She chose to.
I think Sarah Lynn "Death" When she goes through the door is showing how she felt, she knew she was looking death in the eye, and rather than getting sucked in or begging to have more time she just dives in. She looks at it and accepts her fate.
And the song stops immediately. It doesn’t go back into the chorus. Hinting that Sarah Lynn did indeed for once, stop dancing. She no longer kept going for others, she let go for herself
I appreciate Sarah Lynn so much as a character. She first appears and seems like the typical ditzy celebrity but she’s actually plagued by tragedy so when her death hits, it’s like a sucker punch because deep down we were ready for her to get better.
Even if she already was 30 years old, it's still hella creepy for Bojack to sleep with her. He met her when she was 3 and he already was an adult. I love how whenever you try to emphasize with Bojack, the show makes him do another terrible thing after another so you literally can't.
I found Sarah Lynn's death to be morose, and it solidified how truly terrible Bojack was. Part of me was rooting for them, that they'd get out of the situation they were in, but it reminded me that people don't always get better. I'm scared, but I'm still trying. We have Bojacks in our lives, and sometimes we're the Bojacks.
I stopped rooting for him after Penny. But there had been a chance for redemption then, there was definitely none after this. Thoughtful and insightful comment. It really hit close to home. Cheers.
I loved Sarah Lynn tbh it made me tear up when she died, nice mashup it’s a nice dedication, keep it up, you are severely underrated, you gotta just push through and don’t stop dancing till the curtain calls… 😂
I really wished and hoped bojack would've been a better father figure to her growing from what he went throught and rising above it but the generational trauma inflicted by his mom and his mom's own trauma were not their faults and i wished that beatrice had someone to comfort her when her brother died and to help her when her mom got her as her father called it her operation maybe if she had friends to support her she would have treated bojack with love and when i see this and all the things that these characters have gone through i can only hope that if i meet someone like bojack or sarah lynn i will be the one to help everyone deserves love and the right to be happy love youself you are worth it
She doesn’t finish the end of the song when she goes into the abyss. It shows you that even though she’s gone people will profit off her so she never gets to stop ‘dancing’.
I just finished bojack and the dream/musical episode was so painful. Sarah Lynn went through so much, and when she complained, people around her made her seem like she was whiny or annoying. At least that's what I got from the conversations at dinner between all of them.

dont stop dancing was literally told to her by bojack when she was little in that scene where shes hiding under the table, that's why I love the line where she says something about her being taught that when she was small.
