Nice review and very genuine pointing out that a probe lens requires quite a bit of support and visionary planning to be of real value.

I have the Laowa 24mm probe lens and I think this one is better in 4 things:
    - No warm tint.
    - The front LED's are daylight ~5600K vs 4000K.
    - Can be dismantled for better packaging and could add a 90degree front element in the future or more.
    - Much cheaper
    The Laowa is better in:
    - Chromatic aberration control.
Might buy this one too and sell the Laowa.

Maybe someday, someone will come out with a probe lens for smartphones. Basically, it needs a smartphone camera module at the front of a pole with usb-c on (lighting for iPhones) the other end for the smartphone. An app can control the probe camera/lens. With a bit of electronics to control the camera. A adruino mini or nano should do it. The same lens that Apple uses for macro photography should be great.

Hello Arthur, thank you for your review. I want to but this lens and wondering which version to buy. I have apsc Sony a6600 and Sony FS5 and Metabones Speedbooster. Should I buy Conon EF version this -give me extra light and wider"full frame" look or stick with native Sony E mount? Best Maciej

    Howdy, Arthur.
Would you have any interest in reviewing the AstrHori 27mm f/2.8? I recently found out about it and I think it's an interesting lens. It's incredibly cheap (about 50 USD) and offers an apsc image circle. It can focus but it has a fixed aperture, and it's very tiny. With that price and small size it could be good for travel.

Have you considered modifying a tile cutter to build a slider?

I noticed tons of chromatic aberration in the sample clips. More than what I see through my Loawa. But I guess they had to sacrifice optics quality to deliver that great price.

What a lot of people forget when choosing renting vs. buying is that you can always sell a lens you bought, getting back some of the money you put into it.

What a lot of people forget when choosing renting vs buying is that you can always rent a specialized lens for much less than you'll lose buying it and then selling it.
